Аннотация: The electrical resistivity of the SmxMn1−xS (0.15 ≤ x ≤ 0.25) solid solutions in the temperature range of 80–300 K was measured. Minimum and maximum in the temperature dependence of the resistivity were found, respectively, at T = 220 K for x = 0.15 and at T = 100 K for x = 0.2 compounds. This behavior is explained from the result of the mobility-edge movement, the disorder being due to elastic deformation and spin density fluctuations with short-range order. Metal–semiconductor phase transition versus concentration at xc = 0.25 is observed. Resistivity is described by scattering electrons with acoustic phonon mode and with localized manganese spin. From the thermal expansion coefficient the compression of the lattice below the Néel temperature for Sm0.2Mn0.8S is found.

Аннотация: The properties of NPC structures in strontium tetraborate are analyzed. Different types of NPC structures are revealed that possess different nonlinear properties, and their spectral dependences of frequency conversion efficiency are calculated and compared. Experimental study of these structures is reported for the process of doubling of the second harmonic of fs Ti:S laser. Tuning of generated radiation is obtained in the range 187.5 - 232.5 nm, with extreme insensitivity to the angular orientation of NPC. Behavior of tuning curve along investigated fundamental wave range is similar in all studied samples, but efficiency obtained depends on the type of structure. Conversion efficiency and spectral quality of generated radiation is experimentally shown to grow better when using NPC with improved structure. Prospects of VUV converter on a single NPC are discussed. NPCs of SBO are demonstrated to be useful for autocorrelation diagnostics both in random QPM geometry and in the geometry of nonlinear diffraction from virtual beam.

Аннотация: Reaction of cobalt chloride with 1-(1-silatranylmethyl)-1,2,4-triazole in benzene afforded complex CoCl2 center dot 2L (L = 1-(1-silatranylmethyl)-1,2,4-triazole). It was isolated as the solvate [CoCl2 center dot 2L]center dot CH2Cl2 (1) by recrystallization from dichloromethane and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/m with a = 6.798(2) E, b = 20.326(5) E, c = 11.005(3) E, and Z = 4. The cobalt atom is in slightly distorted square-planar environment, coordinated to two nitrogen atoms from two ligands and two chloride ions.

Аннотация: Dispersion of refraction coefficients of orthorhombic BiB3O6 in the wavelength range between 435.8 and 1060 nm is studied, nonlinear optical coefficients are determined, and phase matching angles, angular and spectral bandwidths for second harmonic generation processes are calculated. delta-BiBO may be suitable for doubling of lasers with a wavelength in the 1.3 mu m region as well as the matrix for self-doubling lasing media. Аннотация: The magnetic properties of ferroborate single crystals with substituted compositions Nd1−xDyxFe3(BO3)4 (x = 0.15, 0.25) with competing exchange Nd-Fe and Dy-Fe interactions are investigated. For each composition, we observed a spontaneous spin-reorientation transition from the easy-axis to the easy-plane state and step anomalies on the magnetization curves for the spin-flop transition induced by a magnetic field B | c. The measured parameters and effects are interpreted using a unified theoretical approach based on the molecular field approximation and on calculations performed in the crystal-field model for the rare-earth ion. The experimental temperature dependences of the initial magnetic susceptibility from T = 2 K to T = 300 K, anomalies on the magnetization curves for B | c in fields up to 1.8 T, and their evolution with temperature, as well as temperature and field dependences of magnetization in fields up to 9 T are described. In the interpretation of experimental data, the crystal-field parameters in trigonal symmetry for the rare-earth subsystem are determined, as well as the parameters of Nd-Fe and Dy-Fe exchange interactions.

Аннотация: We study the nonlinear Raman–Nath diffraction (NRND) of femtosecond laser pulses in a 1D periodic nonlinear photonic structure. The calculated second-harmonic spectra represent frequency combs for different orders of transverse phase matching. These frequency combs are in close analogy with the well-known spectral Maker fringes observed in single crystals. The spectral intensity of the second harmonic experiences a redshift with a propagation angle, which is opposite the case of Čerenkov nonlinear diffraction. We analyze how NRND is affected by the group-velocity mismatch between fundamental and second-harmonic pulses and by the parameters of the structure. Our experimental results prove the theoretical predictions.

Аннотация: We consider second harmonic generation (SHG) of ultrashort pulses in the case of strong phase- and group-velocity mismatch. Spectral fringes appear in the second harmonic related to two delayed replicas of the fundamental pulse in the time domain. The fringe separation can be used to evaluate the group-velocity and refractive index of nonlinear crystals at extreme wavelengths. Experimental results with femtosecond pulses in SrB4O7 (SBO) are used to refine the Sellmeier equation describing the nc refractive index down to 160 nm, essential for the use of this unique nonlinear crystal for random quasi-phase-matching in the VUV.

Аннотация: The crystal lattice vibration frequencies, densities of phonon states, elastic moduli, and high-frequency permittivities have been calculated in terms of the density functional theory method for two polymorphs γ-BiB3O6 and δ-BiB3O6. Based on the calculated densities of phonon states, the temperature dependences of the free energies of two considered bismuth triborate modifications have been constructed, and the temperature of the phase transition between these modifications has been determined (1100 K). The structure of a possible nonpolar praphase of δ-BiB3O6 has been proposed. The polarization of δ-BiB3O6 has been estimated as 131 μC/cm2.
