Аннотация: This paper is the first approach for analyzing the influence of kappa-distributed particles on the modified two-stream instability (MTSI). It is assumed that the plasma consists of a magnetized Maxwellian electron contribution and unmagnetized kappa-distributed ions drifting across the electrons. Within an electrostatic approximation, the influence of the kappa parameter on the maximum growth rate of the MTSI is evaluated for the special case of parallel drift velocity and wave propagation.

Аннотация: Three issues are analyzed in the physics of time-dependent tunneling current through a quantum dot with strongly correlated electrons coupled to two external contact leads: (i) nonorthogonality of the states of electrons in the leads and in the quantum dot, (ii) non-Fermi statistics of the excitations in the quantum dot, and iii) kinematic shift of the quantum dot levels. The contributions from nonorthogonality effectively decrease the mixing interaction between the leads and the quantum dot and the width of the quantum dot level whereas the Gibbs statistics slightly changes the spectral weights of quantum dot levels, and decreases the widths, but does not introduce drastical changes to the current. The kinematic interactions are taken into account within the loop correction. For the case of block signal, the time-dependent current shows oscillations starting at the onset and termination of the bias voltage pulse.

Аннотация: Relaxation oscillations of the crystallization front in a gradient temperature field have been observed for water adsorbed on a metal film deposited on a glass substrate. The metal film plays an important role in heat removal from the crystallization front and determines the existence of oscillations. A possible mechanism is proposed for the development of oscillations. It is shown that the oscillations observed are similar to the oscillations of the front of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis. (C) 2000 MAIK "Nauka / Interperiodica".
