Аннотация: We consider light propagation above the light line in arrays of spherical dielectric nanoparticles. It is demonstrated numerically that quasi-bound leaky modes of the array can propagate both stationary waves and light pulses to a distance of 60 wavelengths at the frequencies close to the bound states in the radiation continuum. A semi-analytical estimate for decay rates of the guided waves is found to match the numerical data to a good accuracy. © 2016 Optical Society of America.

Аннотация: We consider light-induced binding and motion of dielectric microparticles in an optical waveguide that gives rise to a backaction effect such as light transmission oscillating with time. Modeling the particles by dielectric slabs allows us to solve the problem analytically and obtain a rich variety of dynamical regimes both for Newtonian and damped motion. This variety is clearly reflected in temporal oscillations of the light transmission. The characteristic frequencies of the oscillations are within the ultrasound range of the order of 105 kHz for micron-size particles and injected power of the order of 100mW. In addition, we consider dynamics of a dielectric particle, driven by light propagating inside a Fabry-Perot resonator. These phenomena pave a way for optical driving and monitoring of the motion of particles in waveguides and resonators.

DYNAMICS
Аннотация: Density functional theory (DFT) and density functional tight binding (DFTB) molecular dynamics Density functional theory (DFT) and density functional tight binding (DFTB) molecular dynamics (DFTB/MD) simulations of embedding and relaxation of buckminsterfullerene C60 molecules chemisorbed on (001) and (111) surfaces and inside bulk silicon lattice were performed. DFT calculations of chemisorbed fullerenes on both surfaces show that the C60 molecule deformation was very small and the C60 binding energies were roughly ∼4 eV. The charge analysis shows that the C60 molecule charges on (001) and (111) surfaces were between −2 and −3.5 electrons, respectively, that correlates well with the number of C–Si bonds linking the fullerene molecule and the silicon surface. DFT calculations of the C60 molecule inside bulk silicon confirm that the C60 molecule remains stable with the deformation energy values of between 11 and 15 eV for geometries with different C60 configurations. The formation of some C–Si bonds causes local silicon amorphization and corresponding electronic charge uptake on the embedded fullerene cages. Charge analysis confirms that a single C60 molecule can accept up to 20 excessive electrons that can be used in practice, wherein the main charge contribution is located on the fullerene’s carbon atoms bonded to silicon atoms. These DFT calculations correlate well with DFTB/MD simulations of the embedding process. In this process, the C60 molecule was placed on the top of the Si(111) surface, and it was further exposed by a stream of silicon dimers, resulting in subsequent overgrowth by silicon.

Аннотация: The solid-phase synthesis of the L1(0)-FePd magnetically hard phase in Fe(001)/Pd(001) epitaxial films has been experimentally investigated. The formation of three types of L1(0)-FePd ordered crystallites whose c axes coincide with the aOE (c) 100 directions of the MgO(001) substrate begins at the Fe/Pd interface at a temperature of 450A degrees C. After an increase in the annealing temperature to 500A degrees C, structural rearrangement occurs and gives rise to the predominant growth of L1(0)-FePd crystallites with the c axis perpendicular to the film plane. After 10-h annealing, the fraction of such crystallites becomes dominant, leading to large perpendicular anisotropy. The first magnetocrystalline-anisotropy constant of the L1(0)-FePd phase has been determined and the second constant has been estimated. It has been shown that magnetic anisotropy in the L1(0)-FePd(001) basal plane cannot be described by the biaxial anisotropy of the tetragonal crystal. The annealing above 500A degrees C results in the evolution of L1(0)-FePd to a disordered cubic phase.

Аннотация: Ferrihydrite nanoparticles (2-5 nm in size) produced by bacteria Klebsiella oxytoca in the course of biomineralization of iron salt solutions from a natural medium exhibit unique magnetic properties: they are characterized by both the antiferromagnetic order inherent in a bulk ferrihydrite and the spontaneous magnetic moment due to the decompensation of spins in sublattices of a nanoparticle. The magnetic susceptibility enhanced by the superantiferromagnetism effect and the magnetic moment independent of the magnetic field provide the possibility of magnetically controlling these natural objects. This has opened up the possibilities for their use in nanomedicine and bioengineering. The results obtained from measurements of the magnetic properties of the ferrihydrite produced by Klebsiella oxytoca in its two main crystalline modifications are reported, and the data obtained are analyzed theoretically. This has made it possible to determine numerical values of the magnetic parameters of real biomineral nanoparticles.

Аннотация: We present an experimental spectroscopic study of large random colloidal aggregates of silver nanoparticles undergoing local restructuring. We argue that such well-known phenomena as strong fluctuation of local electromagnetic fields, appearance of "hot spots" and enhancement of nonlinear optical responses depend on the local structure on the scales of several nanosphere diameters, rather than the large-scale fractal geometry of the sample. Ключевые слова (''Своб.индексиров.''): carbon nanomaterials--platinum metal nanoparticles--in situ one-step method
Аннотация: Carbon nanomaterials (fullerite, detonation nanodiamonds, Taunit, fullerenol, fullerene-containing black) were decorated with platinum group metal nanoparticles in situ in one step by low-temperature combustion (~250–270°С) of a powdered mixture of platinum metal acetylacetonate [Pt-M(асас)n, Pt-М = Pt(II), Pd(II), Rh(III), Ir(III), acac = CH3COCHCOCH3, n is the oxidation state of Pt-М] with carbon nanomaterials in air. As shown by thermal analysis, the process is based on thermal oxidative degradation of the organometallic complex, catalyzed by carbon nanomaterials, with oxidation (combustion) of the organic moiety and release of the metal into the condensed phase. The thermal process in an open system occurs in the glowing mode (210–250°С); the size of the nanoparticles formed is 7–30 nm. Under the conditions restricting the air access to the reaction mixture and free outflow of gaseous products formed by oxidation of acac ligands, the nanoparticle size decreases to 3–10 nm. The particle size depends on the metal amount in the initial powder mixture and on the support morphology.

Аннотация: The ϵ-Fe2O3 iron oxide polymorph is a well-known magnetic material with a complex magnetic structure, which undergoes a series of magnetic transitions in different temperature ranges. However, the ϵ-Fe2O3 phase diagram is still unclear. We report on the magnetic properties of a sample consisting of ϵ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles with an average size of 8 nm embedded in a SiO2 xerogel matrix without an admixture of foreign phases. Along with the features typical of the well-known ϵ-Fe2O3 magnetic transition in the temperature range 80–150 K, the temperature dependence of magnetization M(T) of ϵ-Fe2O3 includes other low-temperature anomalies. In an external field of H = 70 kOe, there is a noticeable temperature hysteresis of magnetization at 50–90 K, and near T ≈ 50 K, the M(T) curves have a characteristic bending, which may be indicative of an additional magnetic transition. The ferromagnetic resonance spectra shows that, near 500 K, a magnetic phase transition occurs, which was previously thought to be a transition to the paramagnetic state. An analysis of the temperature dependence of the ferromagnetic resonance spectra shows that the magnetically ordered phase in ϵ-Fe2O3 exists up to about 800 K.

Аннотация: The effect of the residual catalyst for the synthesis of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on the electrophysical properties of MWCNT-polyethylene composites produced by melt mechanical mixing was studied. The residual catalyst content was varied by changing the MWCNTs synthesis time. The nanotubes used in the work were characterized using transmission and scanning electron microscopy, atomic emission analysis, X-ray phase analysis, and magnetic permeability measurements. The structure of the synthesized composites was studied using optical and scanning electron microscopy. The dependences of the specific magnetization on the applied magnetic field, bulk electrical conductivity on the volumetric content of the filler in the composite, and the frequency dependences of the reflection, transmission, and absorption of electromagnetic radiation in the range 0.01-18 GHz were obtained. It was established that the obtained composites are characterized by a uniform distribution of nanotubes in the polymer matrix, and the dependence of the bulk electrical conductivity on the content of MWCNTs in the composite has a percolation character. Variation in the synthesis time of nanotubes allows producing MWCNTs with a high content of ferromagnetic particles, which are an alloy close in stoichiometry to the composition of the active component of the catalyst. It was shown that the use of composites modified with MWCNTs with a high content of residual catalyst is more effective for absorbing electromagnetic radiation due to an increase in their magnetic losses.

Аннотация: It is shown that annealing 550°C of the Fe/Pt bilayer films fabricated by layer-by-layer deposition onto polycrystalline Al2O3 substrates in an atomic ratio of Fe: Pt = 71: 29 leads to the formation of the inplane rotational magnetic anisotropy with the easy axis that can be aligned by magnetic field in any direction in the film plane. The increase in the Pt content in the investigated film system to 50 at % leads to an increase in the anisotropy constant to 6.5 × 106 erg/cm3, which exceeds the value in the Fe71Pt29 sample by a factor of 6. In addition to the rotational anisotropy, the Fe50Pt50 films are characterized by the perpendicular rotational magnetic anisotropy, which is higher than the film shape anisotropy. Therefore, the easy axis in these samples can be aligned by magnetic field in any spatial direction. According to the X-ray and magnetic measurement data, the synthesized samples have a polycrystalline structure consisting of two ordered phases: magnetically hard L10–FePt and magnetically soft L12–Fe3Pt. This gives us grounds to suggest that the rotational magnetic anisotropy originates from the epitaxial intergrowth and exchange coupling of these two phases.
