Аннотация: With the rapid development of telecommunication technologies and highly integrated electronic devices, researchers show great interest in nanocrystalline soft magnetic thin films with unique characteristics for microwave applications. An important direction of the current research in this field is the study of high-frequency magnetization dynamics that directly depends on the damping processes in a magnetic medium. This paper reports on the effect of sharp broadening and shift of the ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) line revealed experimentally in a 40-nm-thick nanocrystalline permalloy (Fe20Ni80) thin film at a frequency of about 5 GHz. The effect arises only in films with crystallite size exceeding some critical value Dcr. The micromagnetic simulation demonstrates that exchange and dipolar interactions between randomly oriented crystallites form in the film a quasiperiodic magnetic structure with a characteristic wavelength in the range from 36 nm to 3.3 µm. An analysis of the two-magnon scattering model and simulation results shows that the formed magnetic structure provides the energy transfer from uniform magnetization oscillations (uniform FMR) to spin waves, which results in an additional energy dissipation channel and, consequently, sharp FMR line broadening. A theoretical estimate of the critical crystallite size Dcr based on this model yields a value of ~14.3 nm for 40-nm-thick Fe20Ni80 films.

Ludwigites -- Flux growth -- Magnetic susceptibility -- Spin glass state
Аннотация: To study the gradual change of the structure and the magnetic state of the ludwigite Cu2GaBO5 upon Mn3+ doping, single crystals of Cu2Ga1−xMnxBO5 (x = 0.55, 0.7, 0.8) with the size up to 3 × 3 × 10 mm3 were grown using the flux technique. The phase homogeneity and crystal structure of the obtained compounds were investigated by the powder and single crystal X-ray diffraction. All the samples possessed the monoclinic-distorted ludwigite structure with the P21/c space group. The study of the actual Cu/Ga/Mn composition by the EDX (energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy) technique revealed the lower Mn content in all the samples and the refined formulas were Cu2Ga0.47Mn0.53BO5, Cu1.92Ga0.5Mn0.58BO5 and Cu2Ga0.32Mn0.68BO5, respectively. Despite the high manganese content, the concentration transition (from Cu2GaBO5 to Cu2MnBO5) and change of the monoclinic angle did not occur, but strong Me-O octahedra distortions exceeding those both in the parent ludwigites Cu2GaBO5 and Cu2MnBO5 were found. The study of the thermodynamic and magnetic properties revealed the low-temperature magnetic phase transition inherited from the parent Cu2GaBO5 in all the samples. However, the nature and ordering type for the compounds with different Mn content were different: there was a complex transformation of the magnetic state from the partially ordered AFM (antiferromagnetically) in Cu2Ga0.47Mn0.53BO5, through the spin glass state, to the combined spin glass/ordered state in Cu2Ga0.32Mn0.68BO5 with the appearance of magnetic anisotropy. The evident dependence of Tc (phase transition temperature) on the magnetic field was found as well as its decrease at the nonzero magnetic field in the samples with x = 0.53 and 0.68.

Аннотация: Superconducting and paramagnetic contributions to the magnetization of polycrystalline Y1−xHoxBa2Cu3O7−δ samples were investigated. The superconductivity is responsible for a partial screening of magnetic ions from an external magnetic field and for a possible sinking of antiferromagnetic correlations between these ions. Magnetic moments of Ho ions influence on a peak effect induced by the order–disorder transition of the Abrikosov vortex lattice. The critical current density and the critical temperature of YBCO are not changed by the Ho doping.

Аннотация: To study non-Heisenberg effects in the vicinity of spin crossover in strongly correlated electron systems we derive an effective low-energy Hamiltonian for the two-band Kanamori model. It contains a Heisenberg high-spin term proportional to exchange constant as well as a low-spin term proportional to spin gap parameter ɛs. Using cluster mean field theory we obtain several non-Heisenberg effects. Near the critical value of spin gap ɛcs there is a magnetic phase transition of first order. In the vicinity of ɛcs in the paramagnetic phase we observe nontrivial behavior of the Curie constant in the paramagnetic susceptibility in the wide range of temperature. Reentrant temperature behavior of nearest-neighbor spin-spin correlations is observed at ɛsɛcs. Finally, the pressure-temperature magnetic phase diagram for ferroperriclase is obtained using the effective Hamiltonian.

Аннотация: The magnetic properties of samples of NiO nanoparticles with average sizes of 23, 8.5, and 4.5 nm were investigated. Using the magnetization curves measured in strong (up to 250 kOe) pulsed magnetic fields, the contributions of the free spin and ferromagnetic subsystems were extracted. It has been found that the ferromagnetic contribution increases with a decrease in the nanoparticle size and is proportional to the fraction of uncompensated exchange-coupled spins. It is demonstrated that the uncompensated spins form in the antiferromagnetic NiO oxide due to an increase in the fraction of surface atoms in the nanoparticles with decreasing particle size and defects in the bulk of particles.

Аннотация: In the framework of the modified periodic Anderson model with exchange interaction in the subsystem of localized states, it is shown that spin-charge fluctuations in quasi-two-dimensional intermetallic compounds with rare-earth ions in the mixed valence state significantly affect both the spectrum of magnetic excitations and the conditions at which the antiferromagnetic phase is realized. The spectral characteristics of the phase were obtained by the method of the diagram technique for Hubbard operators in the one-loop approximation, which allows to account for the spincharge fluctuation contributions to the components of the mass and the force operators. The developed theory allowed to quantitatively describe the pressure dependence of the Neel temperature observed in a quasi-two-dimensional antiferromagnetic heavy-fermion intermetallic compound CeRhIn5. Аннотация: A high-sensitivity magnetometer for simultaneous measurements of three components of a weak quasi-stationary or high-frequency magnetic-field vector was developed and investigated. Microstrip structures that are based on irregular resonators serve as the magnetometer transducers. An anisotropic thin-film magnetic structure is used as the sensing element. This structure consists of two thin magnetic films that are prepared by magnetron sputtering of a Ni75Fe25 permalloy target and separated by a silicon monoxide layer. It is demonstrated that the transducer exhibits the maximum sensitivity, when the easy magnetization axis of the film structure is orthogonal to the polarization direction of the pumping microwave magnetic field in the microstrip resonator and at an optimal value of a constant magnetic bias field and its optimal deflection from the pumping-field polarization direction which is parallel to it. The magnetometer is characterized by a wide dynamic range of measured magnetic fields, 10–10–10–4 Т, and a wide frequency range, 10–1–105 Hz. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Inc.

Warwickites -- Spin glass -- Entanglement -- Exchange interaction
Аннотация: Magnetic properties of heterometallic warwickites MgFeBO4, Mg0.5Co0.5FeBO4, and CoFeBO4 are presented, highlighting the effect of Co substitution on the magnetic properties of these compounds. The analysis of magnetization and heat capacity data has shown that these compounds exhibit a spin-glass transition below TSG=10, 20 and 22 K, respectively. Using zero field ac susceptibility as entanglement witness we find that the low dimensional magnetic behavior above TSG show quantum entanglement behavior χ(Τ)∝T−α(Τ) up to TE≈130 K. The α parameters have been deduced as a function of temperature and Co content, indicating the existence of random singlet phase in this temperature region. Above TE the paramagnetism is interpreted in terms of non-entangled spins giving rise to Curie–Weiss paramagnetism. The different intra- and inter-ribbon exchange interaction pathways have been calculated within a simple indirect coupling model. It is determined that the triangular motifs in the warwickite structure, together with the competing interactions, induce frustration. The spin-glass character is explained in terms of the substitutional disorder of the Mg, Fe and Co atoms at the two available crystallographic sites, and the frustration induced by the competing interactions. The Co substitution induces uniaxial anisotropy, increases the absolute magnetization and increases the spin-glass freezing temperature. The entanglement behavior is supported in the intermediate phase irrespective of the introduction of anisotropy by the Co substitution.

We investigate the dynamic susceptibility and one-dimensional density of states in an initially sinusoidal superlattice containing simultaneously 2D phase inhomogeneities simulating correlated rough-nesses of superlattice interfaces and 3D amplitude inhomogeneities of the superlattice layer materials. The analytic expression for the averaged Green's function of the sinusoidal superlattice with two phase inhomogeneities is derived in the Bourret approximation. It is shown that the effect of increasing asymmetry in the peak heights of dynamic susceptibility at the Brillouin zone boundary of the superlattice, which was discovered earlier [15] upon an increase in root-mean-square (rms) fluctuations, also takes place upon an increase in the correlation wavenumber of inhomogeneities. However, the peaks in this case also become closer, and the width and depth of the gap in the density of states decrease thereby. It is shown that the enhancement of rms fluctuations of 3D amplitude inhomogeneities in a superlattice containing 2D phase inhomogeneities suppresses the effect of dynamic susceptibility asymmetry and leads to a slight broadening of the gap in the density of states and a decrease in its depth. Targeted experiments aimed at detecting the effects studied here would facilitate the development of radio-spectroscopic and optical methods for identifying the presence of inhomogeneities of various dimensions in multilayer magnetic and optical structures.

Аннотация: Ferrihydrite nanoparticles (2-5 nm in size) produced by bacteria Klebsiella oxytoca in the course of biomineralization of iron salt solutions from a natural medium exhibit unique magnetic properties: they are characterized by both the antiferromagnetic order inherent in a bulk ferrihydrite and the spontaneous magnetic moment due to the decompensation of spins in sublattices of a nanoparticle. The magnetic susceptibility enhanced by the superantiferromagnetism effect and the magnetic moment independent of the magnetic field provide the possibility of magnetically controlling these natural objects. This has opened up the possibilities for their use in nanomedicine and bioengineering. The results obtained from measurements of the magnetic properties of the ferrihydrite produced by Klebsiella oxytoca in its two main crystalline modifications are reported, and the data obtained are analyzed theoretically. This has made it possible to determine numerical values of the magnetic parameters of real biomineral nanoparticles.
