Аннотация: Heat capacity measurements were performed for a single crystal wafer of PMN in the temperature range of 170-250 K applying an electric field E = 3.0 kV/cm along the [111] direction. The heat capacity anomalies related to the phase transition at Tc = 210 K upon zero field heating after field cooling and at Tc = 223 K upon field cooling have been found. The results obtained are discussed together with the data of previous studies in the frame of the spherical random bondrandom field model.

Аннотация: Effects of the phase transition between the high-temperature tetragonal phases of the CsScF4 crystal were studied by Raman scattering. The appearance of new lines including a soft mode was observed below the phase transition point, in complete accordance with the new crystal symmetry. The behavior of the soft mode, which corresponds to in-phase rotations of ScF6 rigid groups around the z-axis (and out-of-phase within perovskite-like layers), resembles that observed earlier in RbAlF4, which suggests a similar mechanism of this transition in both crystals. Аннотация: Current-voltage characteristics of the polycrystalline substituted lanthanum manganite La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 were experimentally studied at T - 77.4 K in magnetic fields up to 13 kOe. In these characteristics, a portion of negative differential resistivity was observed above a certain threshold value of critical current density j caused, in our opinion, by nonequilibrium heating of the electron gas due to low thermal conductivity of the manganite material. Because of the nonlinearity of the current-voltage characteristics, the field dependences of resistivity rho( H) appear extremely sensitive to the value of a transport current. Аннотация: Temperature evolution of the current-voltage characteristics (CVCs) of a single-crystal lanthanum manganite (La0.5Eu0.5)(0.7)Pb0.3MnO3 is investigated in a wide (up to 1 A) range of instrumental currents. Effects of a transport current and an applied electric field on the resistance of the material are studied in view of possible implementation of the charge ordering break in dielectric regions occurring due to phase separation in manganites. A negative differential resistance portion observed in the CVCs suggests the presence of a current switching effect. Below the temperature of the metal-dielectric transition in (La0.5Eu0.5)(0.7)Pb0.3MnO3, the hysteresis is observed in the CVC. The detailed analysis of the internal sample heating on the basis of experimental data on thermal conductivity showed, however, that these CVC features can be explained within the concept of non-equilibrium heating of electron gas. Аннотация: Calculations for a one-dimensional model of RF heating of a cylindrical graphite conductor have been carried out. The heating dynamics are analyzed in the general form. Conductor temperature profiles and the times for heating up to the graphite sublimation temperature as a function of current and frequency have been obtained. A model of conductor heating with partial return of the energy irradiated by the conductor surface has been considered. Frequency and current ranges have been determined to carry out this graphite sublimation method in a chamber with reflecting walls. The problem is associated with carbon vapor production and subsequent synthesis of fullerenes and other carbon structures. (C) 2000 MAIK "Nauka/ Interperiodica".

Аннотация: The mechanism of the surface reinforcement and wear resistance of steel products are studied as a result of creating the strengthening layers with the nanocarbon using the laser heating. Laser surface treatment using soot remaining after fullerene extraction leads to a more than fivefold increase in the microhardness (up to 1086 HV) and a decrease in the friction coefficient by 20–30%. The conclusion that the reinforcement mechanism involves the formation of eutectic, cementite, martensite, the cellular substructure, and grain refinement is carried out based on metallographic studies of the strengthened layers of technically pure iron with a thickness of 20–70 μm.

Аннотация: In this paper, the results of radiothermal and radar remote sensing of several Arctic tundra test sites were investigated to establish the dependences of the reflectivity and backscattering coefficient on soil temperature. The brightness temperature and backscattering coefficient were measured by a SMAP radiometer (1.4GHz) and Sentinel-1 radar (5.4GHz) over areas near to Franklin Bluffs weather station in the North Slope of Alaska and Isachsen weather station on Ellef Ringnes Island respectively. It has been experimentally and theoretically shown that between the surface soil temperature measured by weather stations in the period 2015-2016 and the reflectivity or backscattering coefficient there is a strong correlation relationship no worse than 0.68. In addition, in the range of soil surface temperature changes from -30°C to 0°C, the variations in the backscattering coefficient and reflectivity are about 4 dB for both test sites. This study contributes to further understanding the processes of microwave emission and scattering of frozen Arctic soils that is pertinent to developing new remote sensing algorithms for the permafrost region.

Аннотация: For the nuclear spin system of a solid in the presence of an inhomogeneous magnetic field, we have found a rigorous bound for the heating rate of the system under the action of a high-frequency magnetic field, which is applied, for example, to create effective Hamiltonians. We consider the autocorrelation function (ACF) of a spin rotating in a local field whose fluctuations are specified by a Gaussian random process. The correlation function of a random field is taken as the sum of a static inhomogeneous contribution and a time-dependent contribution expressed self-consistently via the spin ACF. The ACF singularities on the imaginary time axis whose coordinates determine the exponents of exponential asymptotics in the high-frequency domain are investigated. The dependences of the coordinates on field inhomogeneity for various approximations have been derived. The wing of the ACF spectrum in the cumulant approximation is shown to serve as a rigorous upper bound for the wing of the ACF spectrum and, consequently, for the heating rate of the system when subjected to variable magnetic fields. We have established that randomly distributed inhomogeneous magnetic fields increase the wings of the ACF spectra and, thus, speed up the system's heating.
