Аннотация: We investigate the dynamic susceptibility and one-dimensional density of states in an initially sinusoidal superlattice containing simultaneously 2D phase inhomogeneities simulating correlated rough-nesses of superlattice interfaces and 3D amplitude inhomogeneities of the superlattice layer materials. The analytic expression for the averaged Green's function of the sinusoidal superlattice with two phase inhomogeneities is derived in the Bourret approximation. It is shown that the effect of increasing asymmetry in the peak heights of dynamic susceptibility at the Brillouin zone boundary of the superlattice, which was discovered earlier [15] upon an increase in root-mean-square (rms) fluctuations, also takes place upon an increase in the correlation wavenumber of inhomogeneities. However, the peaks in this case also become closer, and the width and depth of the gap in the density of states decrease thereby. It is shown that the enhancement of rms fluctuations of 3D amplitude inhomogeneities in a superlattice containing 2D phase inhomogeneities suppresses the effect of dynamic susceptibility asymmetry and leads to a slight broadening of the gap in the density of states and a decrease in its depth. Targeted experiments aimed at detecting the effects studied here would facilitate the development of radio-spectroscopic and optical methods for identifying the presence of inhomogeneities of various dimensions in multilayer magnetic and optical structures.

Аннотация: Three-layer Co/Ge/Co films have been studied using electron magnetic resonance. It has been established that the resonance spectrum of the film is a superposition of two Lorentzian lines. It has been found that the anisotropy induced at the cobaltaEuro'germanium interface makes the main contribution to the resonance spectrum and determines its features. The temperature dependences of the anisotropy field and the parameters of the interlayer exchange have been measured. The interlayer interactions exhibit an antiferromagnetic character and have been explained in terms of a model similar to the description of superexchange in magnetic dielectrics.

Аннотация: The solid-phase synthesis of the Co(7)Sm(2) and Co(17)Sm(2) magnetically hard phases in Co/Sm/Co(110) epitaxial film systems has been experimentally investigated. The Co(7)Sm(2) phase is first formed at the Sm/Co interface at a relatively low (similar to 300 degrees C) temperature. As the annealing temperature increases to similar to 450 degrees C, the Co(17)Sm(2)(110) phase grows epitaxially on the Co(7)Sm(2)(110) phase. The saturation magnetization and biaxial anisotropy constant in the samples vary with the formation of the Co(7)Sm(2) and Co(17)Sm(2) phases. Investigations of the solidphase synthesis in the nanofilms reveal the existence of a new structure phase transition at 300 degrees C in the Co-Sm system with a high cobalt content.

Аннотация: The magnetization of Fe/Si multilayers, grown by thermal evaporation in an ultrahigh vacuum system, was investigated at high temperatures. Magnetization and its temperature dependence up to a high temperature of 800 K depend on individual Fe layer thickness d(Fe). This dependence is the result of the formation of an Fe-Si interface layer (nonmagnetic phase) during the synthetic procedure. The fraction of this Fe-Si nonmagnetic phase is estimated versus dFe. At temperatures higher than 400 K an irreversible decrease in the magnetization occurs. A quantitative analysis of this irreversible behavior is proposed in terms of an exponential diffusion-like kinetic equation for the reaction that produces the Fe-Si nonmagnetic phase. The coefficients of the rate equation are the activation energy E(a) and the prefactor D(0), which have been determined for different d(Fe). (C) 2008 American Institute of Physics. Аннотация: We report our experimental observation of interlayer exchange coupling phenomena in CoO/Cu/Co trilayers with systematic variation of Cu spacer layer thickness as well as temperature. It has been found that there exists a clear indication of nonmonotonically varying oscillatory interlayer exchange coupling. The amplitude of oscillation increases, reaches to the maximum, and decreases with increasing Cu spacer thickness from 1 to 16 atomic layers for all temperature ranges between 70 and 200 K. Аннотация: A mechanism for the magnetic ordering of dysprosium in Dy1-x Ni (x) -Ni bilayer films is proposed. This ordering was discovered earlier by the authors when studying magnetic circular dichroism. For x exceeding a threshold value (similar to 0.05), the contribution from the Dy1-x Ni (x) layer in a bilayer film to the magnetic circular dichroism over the temperature range 80-300 K is approximately equal in magnitude to the magnetic circular dichroism observed in a single-layer Dy film at temperatures below the ferromagnetic phase transition temperature of Dy (similar to 100 K). Since magnetic circular dichroism is an effect linear in magnetization, the observed effect is associated with magnetic ordering of the Dy1-x Ni (x) layer in bilayer films due to the simultaneous influence of two factors: the incorporation of Ni into the Dy layer and the influence of the continuous Ni sublayer. The ferromagnetic ordering of a dysprosium layer doped with nickel (under conditions of an atomic contact with a continuous nickel layer) was confirmed by the field dependences of the polar and longitudinal Kerr effects. It was shown that both layers in the bilayer structure are magnetized in the same direction and characterized by an anisotropy of the easy-plane type. The magnetic ordering is assumed to be due to the change in the density of states of the Dy1-x Ni (x) alloy caused by hybridization with the narrow peaks near the Fermi level characteristic of nickel.

Аннотация: The magnetic properties of planar Co/Si nanostructures with different nominal thicknesses of the magnetic (2-42 nm) and nonmagnetic (0.3-10 nm) constituent layers are studied in the temperature range 4.2-300 K. It is established that in the presence of Si layers the spontaneous magnetization of Co decreases and its temperature dependence changes, and magnetic hysteresis is modified. The interlayer influence is interpreted as being due to the diffusion of Si into the Co layers, which results in the formation of magnetically disordered boundary interfaces with low average magnetization. The depth of the interfaces depends on the nominal thickness of the Si layers and is estimated to reach 1.6 nm. A qualitative explanation of the characteristics of the magnetization of the experimental objects under the influence of a magnetic field and temperature is given in a model where the interfaces have a granular microstructure. Electron-microscope observations confirm some assumptions of the proposed model. (C) 2007 American Institute of Physics.

Аннотация: The transmittance D(omega), reflectance R(omega), and dispersion omega(k) are investigated for waves of various nature propagating through a one-dimensional superlattice (multilayer structure) with arbitrary thickness of the interlayer boundary. The dependences of the band gap widths Deltaomega(m) and their positions in the wave spectrum of the superlattice on the interlayer boundary thickness d and the band number m are calculated. Calculations are performed in terms of the modified coupled-mode theory (MCMT) using the frequency dependence of R(omega), as well as in the framework of perturbation theory using the function omega(k), which made it possible to estimate the accuracy of the MCMT method; the MCMT method is found to have a high accuracy in calculating the band gap widths and a much lower accuracy in determining the gap positions. It is shown that the m dependence of Deltaomega(m) for electromagnetic (or elastic) waves is different from that for spin waves. Furthermore, the widths of the band gaps with m = 1 and 2 are practically independent of d, whereas the widths of all gaps for m 2 depend strongly on d. Experimental measurements of these dependences allow one to determine the superlattice interface thicknesses by using spectral methods. (C) 2004 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".

Аннотация: This paper reports on the results of investigations into the temperature and spectral dependences of the magnetic circular dichroism in Dy1-xNix-Ni bilayer films prepared through thermal sputter deposition of components under ultrahigh vacuum. The distribution of the components over the layer thickness is examined by Auger spectroscopy. The nickel content x in Dy1-xNix layers varies from 0.005 to 0.06. It is shown that, in the temperature range 80-300 K, the contribution made to the magnetic circular dichroism by a Dy1-xNix layer in a bilayer film with a nickel content higher than the threshold value is approximately equal to the magnetic circular dichroism observed in an isolated Dy1-xNix film at temperatures below the temperature of the phase transition to a ferromagnetic state (similar to100 K). This phenomenon is explained by magnetic ordering in theDy(1-x)Ni(x) layer of the bilayer film due to the combined effect of two factors, namely, the incorporation of nickel into a dysprosium layer and the presence of a continuous nickel sublayer in the film.
