Аннотация: The paper describes the studies of the transformation of Cs+- and Sr2+-containing zeolite sorbents synthesized from fly ash cenospheres to crystalline mineral composition, suitable for the long-term disposal. Series of Cs+- and Sr2+-exchanged NaP1-containing sorbents were subjected to the thermochemical transformation in the temperature range 40-1100°C at atmospheric pressure in air and the progress of reaction was monitored by DSC and XRD analysis. It was shown that initial sodium zeolite undergoes two-step transformation at 736-785°C and 892-982°C forming nepheline as the principle product, with the conversion temperatures being dependant on the heating rate. The thermal treatment of Cs+-bearing zeolite sorbent led to formation of a complex multiphase system, the principal components of which were nepheline and pollucite. Increasing cesium content in the samples led to a monotonous shift of crystallization peak to the higher temperature range (1005-1006°C). A more complicated behavior was observed for Sr2+-containing samples, for which the crystallization temperature tends to increase (compared with NaP1) at lower Sr contents, but it starts decreasing parallel to the Sr2+ content at Sr2+ loadings 10 mg/g. The principal crystalline phases in Sr-NaP1 sample conversion were nepheline and Sr2+- containing feldspar, the quantity of which increased parallel to the increase of strontium content in zeolite. Apparent activation energies of thermochemical transformations were calculated and possible approaches to reduce transformation temperature are discussed and experimentally illustrated. © 2009 Materials Research Society.

Аннотация: The reduction of chlorocomplexes of gold(III) from muriatic solutions by nanocrystal powders of palladium and platinum at 110 and 130 degrees C under hydrothermal conditions and the action of microwave irradiation has been investigated. The structure and composition of the solid phase have been characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and chemical methods. Bimetallic particles with a core-shell structure have been revealed. The obtained particles are established to have a core of the metal reductant covered with a substitutional solid (Au, Pd) solution in case of palladium, and isolated by a gold layer in the case of platinum. The main reason for such a difference is the ratio between the rates of aggregation and reduction. It has been shown by the example of the Au-Pd system that the use of microwave irradiation allows us not only to accelerate the synthesis of particles but also to obtain more homogeneous materials in comparison with conventional heating.

Аннотация: The compound sulfides EuLnCuS3 (Ln = Nd and Sm) were obtained for the first time. Their crystal structures were determined from X-ray powder diffraction data. The crystals of both compounds are orthorhombic (space group Pnma). The compound EuNdCuS3 is isostructural with BaLaCuS3; the unit cell parameters are a = 11.0438(2) Å, b = 4.0660(1) Å, c = 11.4149(4) Å. The compound EuSmCuS3 is isostructural with Eu2CuS3; the unit cell parameters are a = 10.4202(2) Å, b = 3.9701(1) Å, c = 12.8022(2) Å.

Аннотация: The solid-state synthesis of magnetically soft phase FePd3 in epitaxial Pd(0 0 1)/Fe(0 0 1)/MgO(0 0 1) film systems was studied experimentally. The system had a Fe to Pd ratio of 1:3. An increase to 450 °C leads to the formation of three variants of ordered L10-FePd crystallites. At 500 °C, the solid-state reaction of unreacted Pd with L10-FePd crystallites initiates the growth of an ordered epitaxial L12-FePd3(0 0 1) layer. When annealing at 650 °С, a gradual disordering is observed. The magnetic anisotropy (K1=−2.0×103 erg/cm3) and the saturation magnetization (MS=650 emu/cm3) of the disordered FePd3 phase were determined.

Аннотация: We have investigated the x-ray diffraction (XRD) structure, magnetic susceptibility, and heat capacity of GdCoO3 in a wide temperature range. A model of phase separation of the low-spin (LS) and high-spin (HS) states has been proposed based on the analysis of XRD peak shape anomalies in the temperature range 200-800 K. From magnetic measurements we separated the HS Co3+ contribution and fitted it with the temperature-dependent spin gap. We found a smooth LS-HS crossover at T=800 K. The possible contribution of the intermediate spin (IS) state to the thermodynamics is excluded by the calculation IS-LS excitation energy within the modified crystal-field approach. In the two-phase model, with HS/LS probabilities calculated from the found spin gap and the LS and HS volumes calculated by the DFT-GGA method, we were able to reproduce the temperature dependence of the unit-cell volume and thermal expansion. Thus, we conclude that in GdCoO3 the main mechanism of the lattice expansion is not the conventional lattice anharmonicity, but the HS/LS fluctuations. The electronic structure has been calculated by the LDA+GTB method. At zero temperature, we have obtained the charge-transfer insulator with the charge gap Eg=0.5 eV. The thermal population of the HS term results in the in-gap band formation inside the insulator gap and smooth insulator-metal transition at TIMT=780 K. Heat-capacity measurements revealed a smooth maximum near the TIMT. © 2013 American Physical Society.

Аннотация: A tetragonal phase Sr0.8Gd0.2CoO3−δ with ordered Gd3+/Sr2+ ions and oxygen vacancy sites is found to be about five times less active in the reaction of methane combustion than a quenched cubic perovskite phase with randomly distributed (disordered) Gd3+/Sr2+ ions over the A-sites of the crystal lattice.

Аннотация: The crystal structure model of decafluorocyclohex-1-ene at 4.2 K derived from simulated powder diffraction data and solid-state energy minimization [Smrcok et al. (2013). Acta Cryst. B69, 395-404] is found to be incomplete. In this study it is completed by an additional alternative molecular orientation revealed from the difference density analysis and direct space search. The structure is refined by the derivative difference method in the rigid-body approximation leading to perfect agreement between observed and calculated neutron powder patterns.

Аннотация: We use the Vienna ab initio simulation package (vasp) for evaluation of the quasiparticle spectra and their spectral weights within Hedin's GW approximation (GWA) for Fe3Si and α-FeSi2 within the non-self-consistent one-shot approximation G0W0 and self-consistent scGWA with the vertex corrections in the particle-hole channel, taken in the form of two-point kernel. As input for G0W0, the band structure and wave functions evaluated within the generalized gradient corrected local-density approximation to density functional theory (GGA) have been used. The spectral weights of quasiparticles in these compounds deviate from unity everywhere and show nonmonotonic behavior in those parts of bands where the delocalized states contribute to their formation. The G0W0 and scGWA spectral weights are the same within 2%–5%. The scGWA shows a general tendency to return G0W0 bands to their GGA positions for the delocalized states, while in the flat bands it flattens even more. Variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometry measurements at T=296 K on grown single-crystalline ∼50-nm-thick films of Fe3Si on n-Si(111) wafer have been performed in the interval of energies ω∼(1.3–5) eV. The comparison of G0W0 and scGW theory with experimental real and imaginary parts of permittivity, refractive index, extinction and absorption coefficients, reflectivity, and electron energy loss function shows that both G0W0 and scGW qualitatively describe experiment correctly, the position of the low-energy peaks is described better by the scGW theory, however, its detailed structure is not observed in the experimental curves. We suggest that the angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy experiments, which can reveal the fine details of the quasiparticle band structure and spectral weights, could help to understand (i) if the scGWA with this type of vertex correction is sufficiently good for description of these iron silicides and, possibly, (ii) why some features of calculated permittivity are not seen in optical experiments.

Аннотация: Методами термического и рентгеноструктурного анализа в интервале температур 11001473 К изучен процесс взаимопревращения тетрагонального перовскита Sr ( 0.8 ) Gd ( 0.2 ) CoO ( 3-d ) с упорядоченным расположением катионов Sr/Gd и анионных вакансий в кубическую разупорядоченную модификацию. Показано, что фазовое превращение протекает как размытый фазовый переход первого рода. Процесс разупорядочения не зависит от скорости нагрева и контролируется термодинамическими характеристиками процессов в кристалле, тогда как процесс образования упорядоченной тетрагональной структуры контролируется кинетическими факторами. Проведен количественный анализ температурной зависимости теплоемкости на основе размытых фазовых переходов.Process of interconversion of tetragonal Sr(0.8) Gd(0.2) CoO(3-d) (with ordered Sr/Gd cations and anion vacancies) to cubic one (with disordered structure) was studied by X-ray structural and thermal analysis at 1100-1473 K. It was shown that the transformation is a first order diffuse phase transition. The ramp rate does not affect cation and anion vacancies disordering which is controlled by thermodynamic parameters of the processes in the solid whereas cubic to tetragonal transition is kinetically controlled. A theory of diffuse phase transition was applied to quantitatively analyze heat capacity temperature dependence.

Аннотация: Ferrospheres with the Fe2O3 content in the range from 76 to 97 wt% were applied as catalysts for the oxidative coupling of methane (OCM). To identify their phase composition and distribution of iron sites, the ferrospheres were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and Mossbauer spectroscopy before and after the OCM reaction. Magnetite-based ferrite spinel, hematite and aluminosilicate glasses were established to be the main phases. The ferrospinel of all ferrospheres partially oxidized to hematite after the OCM reaction. It was established that the yield of C-2-hydrocarbons sharply increased at the ferrospheres with Fe2O3 content higher than 89 wt% The spinel phase of these ferrospheres includes Fevv3+(B) sites with a Ca2+ tetrahedral cation and an octahedral cation vacancy among the nearest neighbors. A linear correlation between the yield of C-2-hydrocarbons (ethane and ethylene) and the content of such sites was established, thus indicating that their electrophilic oxygen species participate in selective CH4 conversion to C2H6. Аннотация: X-ray diffraction and X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) spectra have been measured at the Со K-edge and Gd L3-edge in GdCoO3 and Gd0.4Sr0.6CoO2.85 cobaltites. The effect of Sr substitution on the crystal structure and electronic and magnetic states of Co3+ ions in a Gd0.4Sr0.6CoO2.85 single crystal has been analyzed. The XANES measurements at the Co K-edge have not showed a noticeable shift of the absorption edge with an increase in the concentration of Sr. This indicates that the effective valence of cobalt does not change. An increase in the intensity of absorption at the Gd L3-edge is due to an increase in the degree of hybridization of the Gd(5d) and O(2p) states. The effect of hole doping on the magnetic properties results in the appearance of the ferromagnetic component and in a significant increase in the magnetic moment.

Аннотация: Magnetic and thermodynamic properties of perovskite Gd0.2Sr0.8CoO3−δ, with ordered and disordered states of Gd and Sr in the A-sites of the crystal lattice have been studied revealing remarkable differences in the physical properties of the ordered and disordered states. The ordered samples have larger oxygen nonstoichiometry, heat capacity, and thermal expansion anomalies, and abnormal temperature dependence of the magnetization around 350 K.

Аннотация: The structural, magnetic, transport, and magnetotransport properties of Fe3O4 thin films with thicknesses from 38 nm to 95 nm are systematically investigated. The occurrence of the Verwey transition in these films at a temperature of about 120 K is established. It is found that the temperature dependences of the magnetic moment have a feature near 40 K, which can be attributed to the multiferroic phase. According to the X-ray diffraction data, the film structure represents a (001) texture. As was established using transmission electron microscopy, the height and width of texture crystallites increase with film thickness. Analysis of the temperature dependences of the resistivity showed that the dominant carrier transport mechanism in the films is thermoactivated tunneling. The thermoactivation energy, along with the room-temperature resistivity, decreases with increasing film thicknesses, which is most likely related to the variation in the crystallite size, especially in the crystallite width. The field dependence of magnetoresistance behaves similarly over the entire temperature range and has a positive MR peak in weak fields, which is related to spin-dependent tunneling through Fe3O4 grains and antiferromagnetically coupled antiphase boundaries. © 2016 Elsevier B.V.
