Аннотация: Измерены спектры оптического поглощения и магнитного кругового дихроизма (МКД) в интервале длин волн 350-1150 нм для серии коллоидных растворов наночастиц Au со средним размером 6.0 нм с различной степенью хиральности тиолятного покрытия. Вид спектров поглощения и МКД свидетельствует о дипольном характере межзонных переходов 5d-6(sp)-орбиталей. Отсутствие зависимости (в пределах погрешности эксперимента) МКД от вида покрытия позволяет исключить гипотезу об орбитальной природе магнетизма. Делается вывод о преобладающей роли спиновой поляризации в формировании магнетизма наночастиц золота с тиолятным покрытием.

Аннотация: Вопрос возникновения намагниченности в сплавах системы никель-титан до сих пор изучен недостаточно. Наши ранние работы показали возможность возникновения намагниченности при многократных циклах прямых и обратных мартенситных переходах в сплаве Ni51Ti49, а также после деформации этого сплава растяжением до разрыва. Представленная работа посвящена выявлению эффекта намагниченности в образцах сплава Ni51Ti49 в результате их однократного охлаждения в жидком азоте, а также исчезновению намагниченности при нагревании образцов до комнатной температуры. С помощью индукционного петлескопа выявлено, что непосредственно после охлаждения образец имел высокую намагниченность. По мере нагревания образца петли гистерезиса изменяются, приобретая меньший наклон к горизонтальной оси, что свидетельствует об уменьшении магнитной индукции практически до нуля с повышением температуры до комнатной. Причину появления и исчезновения намагниченности можно связать с микродеформационными процессами, проходящими при охлаждении и нагревании образцов, связанными с прямым и обратным мартенситными переходами.The occurrence of magnetization in alloys of the nickel-titanium system is still studied insufficiently. Our early work showed the possibility of magnetization arising during multiple cycles of forward and reverse martensitic transitions in the Ni51Ti49 alloy, as well as after deformation of this alloy by tensile stress to rupture. The purpose of this paper is devoted to revealing the effect of magnetization in samples of the Ni51Ti49 alloy as a result of their single cooling in liquid nitrogen, as well as the disappearance of magnetization when the samples are heated to room temperature. Using an induction hysteresigraph it is found out that the sample has a high magnetization immediately after cooling. As the sample is heated, the hysteresis loops change, acquiring a smaller inclination to the horizontal axis. It indicates a decrease in the magnetic induction to almost zero as the temperature rises to room temperature. The reason for the occurrence and disappearance of magnetization can be associated with micro-deformation processes related to forward and reverse martensitic transitions during cooling and heating of the samples.

Аннотация: The magnetic properties of ordered MAX phases Mn2(AlxGa1−x)C (x = 0.125, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 0.875) have been studied within the DFT-GGA. We have found that increase of Al atom at A-site leads to the formation of the ferromagnetic phase with large magnetization of about 3.6 μB/f.u. The investigation of the phase stability is performed by comparing the total energy of the MAX phases with that of a set of competitive phases for calculation of the phase formation enthalpy. Up to a concentration of Al atoms x = 0.7 the compound remains thermodynamically stable. The exchange constants analysis shows the crucial role of exchange interactions between manganese atoms along the c-axis in forming of ferromagnetism. The magnetic transition temperature of Mn2(AlxGa1−x)C alloys increases with increase of the aluminum concentration.

Аннотация: CuB2O4 single crystals have been grown and their magnetic and resonance properties have been investigated for the first time. The temperature dependence of the susceptibility was found to contain features at T = 21 and 10 K. The CuB2O4 single crystal transformed at T = 21 K to a weakly ferromagnetic state. The sharp drop in susceptibility at T 10 K is caused by a transition of the magnetic system of CuB2O4 to an antiferromagnetic state. The effective magnetic moment of the Cu2+ ion, determined from the high-temperature part of the magnetic susceptibility, is 1.77 mu(B). The room-temperature g factors are, respectively, 2.170 and 2.133 for magnetic field parallel and perpendicular to the c axis of the crystal. The antiferromagnetic resonance parameters in the weakly ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic phases were measured. (C) 1999 American Institute of Physics. [S1063-7834(99)02907-X].

Аннотация: The simple lattice and magnetic structure, the high Neel temperature, the narrow antiferromagnetic resonance line of FeBO3, and the narrow electron paramagnetic resonance line of its isostructural diamagnetic analogs MBO3:Fe3+(M = Ga, In, Sc, Lu) make iron borate unique for investigations and applications. Iron borate is a model crystal for numerous experimental and theoretical studies, including spin crossovers and metallization at megabar pressures and many-electron effects in optics and X-ray spectroscopy. The recent works dealing with the investigation of the properties of FeBO(3)are reviewed.

Аннотация: The energy spectrum of heavy fermions in an external magnetic field is calculated for canted magnetic sublattices of antiferromagnetic intermetallides. This makes it possible to determine low-temperature features of electronic heat capacity of heavy-fermion antiferromagnets with the metal-type ground state taking into account the structural rearrangement of the magnetic subsystem. The calculated temperature dependences of the magnetization, heat capacity, and Sommerfeld constant in the vicinity of the point of transition to the antiferromagnetic phase correlate with experimental data obtained for heavy-fermion antiferromagnets PuGa3, Ce2Au2Cd, YbNiSi3, and PuPd5Al2.

Аннотация: Half-metallic ferromagnetic materials with planar forms are promising for spintronics applications. A wide range of 2D lattices like graphene, h-BN, transition metal dichalcogenides, etc. are non-magnetic or weakly magnetic. Using first principles calculations, the existence of graphene-like hexagonal chromium nitride (h-CrN) with an almost flat atomically thin structure is predicted. We find that freestanding h-CrN has a 100% spin-polarized half-metallic nature with possible ferromagnetic ordering and a high rate of optical transparency. As a possible method for stabilization and synthesis, deposition of h-CrN on 2D MoSe2 or on MoS2 is proposed. The formation of composites retains the half-metallic properties and leads to the reduction of spin-down band gaps to 1.43 and 1.71 eV for energetically favorable h-CrN/MoSe2 and h-CrN/MoS2 configurations, respectively. Calculation of the dielectric functions of h-CrN, h-CrN/MoSe2 and h-CrN/MoS2 exhibit the high transparency of all three low-dimensional nanomaterials. The honeycomb CrN may be considered as a promising fundamental 2D material for a variety of potential applications of critical importance. © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2017.

Аннотация: Based on the experimental finding of the exchange bias in amorphous carbon samples with embedded Co nanoparticles and on the graphited character of the amorphous carbon interface confirmed by molecular dynamics simulations we have proposed the interface of graphited carbon to be antiferromagnetic. A theoretical model, which comprises the Kondo interactions in the interfaces of Co nanoparticles and the induced antiferromagnetic interactions in the graphited carbons, is employed to evaluate the ferromagnetism of the interfaces of Co nanoparticles. We have shown that the ferromagnetism of interfaces of Co nanoparticles will be enhanced by the increase of antiferromagnetic interaction as well as the increase of electron density in the graphited carbons. In particular, we found that the antiferromagnetic interactions in graphited carbons will change the spin-wave excitation in interfaces of Co nanoparticles from the quasiacoustic mode to the quasioptical one. © 2017 Elsevier B.V.

Аннотация: The method for investigation of the uniaxial and hexagonal anisotropies in weakly ferromagnetic rhombohedral FeBO3 crystals with the Fe2þ magnetic impurity with the use of the single-ion and pair approximation has been developed. In the framework of this method, a quantitative discrepancy between theoretical and experimental data on a uniaxial field has been eliminated. The energy contributions to the hexagonal anisotropy that are caused by the Dzyaloshinsky–Moriya interaction, the crystal field of Fe3þ ions and the temperature dependence of this anisotropy were analytically treated. The experimental temperature dependence of the hexagonal anisotropy of FeBO3 crystals is explained. It is shown that the compensation point and the typical temperature dependence of the hexagonal anisotropy result from the competition of the contributions of Fe3þ and Fe2þ ions. It is shown that respective considerable contributions to the anisotropy of Fe3þ and Fe2þ ions are made by the cubic symmetry and the uniaxial symmetry of the exchange ‘‘single-ion’’ type. The anisotropy constants for FeBO3 crystal was obtained by using the described results. It was shown, that for the calcite type structure crystals (iron borate and manganese carbonate) with S-state ions, the single ion and pair models (which previously raised doubts in their validity and accuracy) describe the experimental data good enough.

The electron microscopy investigations were conducted in the SFU Joint Scientific Center supported by the State assignment (#FSRZ-2020-0011) of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation
Аннотация: Nickel oxide nanoparticles were first synthesized by sputtering high-purity nickel in an oxygen plasma of a low-pressure arc discharge. The structure, morphology, and optical and magnetic properties of NiO nanoparticles were studied by XRD, TEM, FTIR, UV-VIS, and VSM. TEM images showed that the obtained NiO nanoparticles have a narrow particle size distribution and an average particle size of 12 nm. The XRD results and the processing of diffractograms by the Rietveld method showed that the obtained nanoparticles have a face-centered cubic lattice with an average particle size of 13 nm. With decreasing temperature, residual stresses increase and peaks corresponding to the superstructure appear. The band gap of NiO was determined from the optical absorption spectrum and amounted to 3.21 eV. Magnetic measurements showed that, at temperatures of 200 and 300 K, NiO nanoparticles, unlike bulk particles, exhibit ferromagnetic behavior, and at 5 K a magnetic hysteresis loop appears. Based on the studies, a dendritic model of the nanoparticle microstructure is proposed.

Аннотация: Single crystals of the new compound Cu5Bi2B4O14 are grown and its structural, magnetic, and resonant properties are investigated for the first time. It is found that the Cu5Bi2B4O14 crystal synthesized has a triclinic symmetry with space group P (1) over bar and the unit cell parameters a = 10.132 Angstrom, b = 9.385 Angstrom, c = 3.458 Angstrom, alpha = 105.443degrees, beta = 97.405degrees, gamma = 107.784degrees, and Z = 1. At a temperature of 24.5 K, the crystal undergoes a magnetic phase transition to the magnetically ordered state. The assumption is made that the ferrimagnetic structure of the Cu5Bi2B4O14 crystal consists of two ferromagnetic sublattices coupled through the antiferromagnetic exchange interaction. The unit cell of the crystal contains five copper ions, of which one ion belongs to the first sublattice and the other four ions form the second sublattice. Analysis of the resonant and magnetic static properties demonstrates that the Cu5Bi2B4O14 crystal exhibits an easy-axis magnetic anisotropy. The direction of the easy axis coincides with the c axis of the crystal, whereas the a and b axes are the hard magnetic axes with saturation fields approximately equal to 25 and 10 kOe, respectively. Аннотация: Mn5Ge3 epitaxial thin films previously grown mainly on Ge substrate have been synthesized on Si(111) using the co-deposition of Mn and Ge at a temperature of 390 °C. RMS roughness decreases by almost a factor of two in the transition from a completely polycrystalline to a highly ordered growth mode. This mode has been stabilized by changing the ratio of the Mn and Ge evaporation rate from the stoichiometric in the buffer layer. Highly ordered Mn5Ge3 film has two azimuthal crystallite orientations, namely Mn5Ge3 (001) [1-10] and Mn5Ge3 (001) [010] matching Si(111)[-110]. Lattice parameters derived a (7.112(1) Å) and c (5.027(1) Å) are close to the bulk values. Considering all structural data, we proposed a double buffer layer model suggesting that all layers have identical crystal structure with P6₃/mcm symmetry similar to Mn5Ge3, but orientation and level of Si concentration are different, which eliminates 8% lattice mismatch between Si and Mn5Ge3 film. Mn5Ge3 film on Si(111) demonstrates no difference in magnetic properties compared to other reported films. TC is about 300 K, which implies no significant excess of Mn or Si doping. It means that the buffer layer not only serves as a platform for the growth of the relaxed Mn5Ge3 film, but is also a good diffusion barrier.
