Doped Mott-Hubbard materials with a low quasiparticle transparency / V. A. Gavrichkov // Phys. Rev. Аннотация: Based on the Wilson's criterion metal/insulator, extended to materials with strong electronic correlations, we have identified a specific class of the materials, which is not associated with their usual classification into Mott-Hubbard and charge transfer dielectrics. The local symmetry of these materials leads to the disappearance of quasiparticle states (so-called first removal or first extra states) in the Hubbard gap. It is especially unusual for doped materials, in which quasiparticles, being charge carriers, can disappear or appear under external factors without the Mott transition being achieved. In this work, we introduce the so-called “quasiparticle transparency”, and provide specific experiments to identify materials with the low quasiparticle transparency. A number of examples of such materials with a spin crossover under high pressure, showing the Jahn-Teller nature, are considered.

Signatures of quantum chaos and fermionization in the incoherent transport of bosonic carriers in the Bose-Hubbard chain / P. S. Muraev, D. N. Maksimov, A. R. Kolovsky // Phys. Rev. Аннотация: We analyze the stationary current of Bose particles across the Bose-Hubbard chain connected to a battery, focusing on the effect of interparticle interactions. It is shown that the current magnitude drastically decreases as the strength of interparticle interactions exceeds the critical value which marks the transition to quantum chaos in the Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian. We found that this transition is well reflected in the nonequilibrium many-body density matrix of the system. Namely, the level-spacing distribution for eigenvalues of the density matrix changes from Poisson to Wigner-Dyson distributions. With the further increase of the interaction strength, the Wigner-Dyson spectrum statistics change back to the Poisson statistics which now marks fermionization of the Bose particles. With respect to the stationary current, this leads to the counter-intuitive dependence of the current magnitude on the particle number.

Mott-Hubbard materials -- spin-charge coupling -- spin polarons -- kinetic coefficients -- electrical resistance -- Hall effect
Аннотация: The kinetic characteristics of the doped Mott-Hubbard material are considered within the realistic spin-fermion model which takes into account the strong spin-charge coupling. The kinetic equation constructed on the basis of the mechanism of carrier scattering on the spin fluctuations is solved using the multi-moment method, which allows one to analyze the temperature behavior of nonequilibrium distribution function in the problems of electrical resistivity ρ and the Hall coefficient RH. The calculated dependences ρ(T) and RH(T) for the underdoped and optimally doped regimes demonstrate good qualitative agreement with the experimental data. In particular, the Hall coefficient calculated for the underdoped regime reproduces the experimentally observed sharp drop and even a change in sign at low temperatures.

topological phases -- Dirac fermions -- Coulomb interaction -- strong correlations -- Majorana modes
Аннотация: Majorana corner modes have a number of advantages over the conventional Majorana states in terms of performing topologically protected quantum computations. However, the problem of the influence of Coulomb repulsion on higher-order phases, which inevitably arises when trying to implement such systems in practice, has been poorly studied. In this article, we analyze the features of a topological invariant describing the nontrivial phase with the corner modes for a two-dimensional two-orbital model of a hybrid structure in the regime of extremely strong electron correlations. For this purpose, approximate wave functions of the edge states with a linear dispersion law and the associated Dirac masses, which arise when superconducting pairing in the system is taken into account, are obtained.

non-equilibrium Green’s function -- Hubbard operator -- quantum transport -- quantum dot -- Anderson impurity model
Аннотация: The paper develops a theory of tunneling electron transport through atomic-scale systems (or briefly quantum dots) with arbitrarily strong interaction. The theory is based on a diagram technique for nonequilibrium Green’s functions defined on Hubbard operators. The use of Hubbard operators, describing many-body states of an entire quantum dot, makes it possible to represent the Hamiltonian of the quantum dot in a universal diagonal form and consider its coupling with two leads within the perturbation theory. It is shown that in the case when all Hubbard operators are defined for the same site, some rules of the diagram technique for Hubbard operators, initially developed for lattice models, have to be modified. As an example of the application of the modified theory, the current-voltage characteristics of the single-impurity Anderson model with infinitely large Coulomb repulsion are calculated. It is shown that taking into account the multiple electron tunneling processes with spin flips results in the dip in the center of the Lorentz distribution peak, describing the density of states of the one level Anderson impurity coupled with two leads. The emergence of this dip in the density of states leads to a peculiar feature in the bias voltage dependence of the differential conductivity, which can be detected experimentally.

strong electronic correlations -- cuprates -- Hubbard model -- cluster perturbation theory
Аннотация: The physics of high-Tc superconducting cuprates is obscured by the effect of strong electronic correlations. One way to overcome this problem is to seek an exact solution at least within a small cluster and expand it to the whole crystal. Such an approach is at the heart of cluster perturbation theory (CPT). Here, we developed CPT for the dynamic spin and charge susceptibilities (spin-CPT and charge-CPT), with the correlation effects explicitly taken into account by the exact diagonalization. We applied spin-CPT and charge-CPT to the effective two-band Hubbard model for the cuprates obtained from the three-band Emery model and calculated one- and two-particle correlation functions, namely, a spectral function and spin and charge susceptibilities. The doping dependence of the spin susceptibility was studied within spin-CPT and CPT-RPA, that is, the CPT generalization of the random phase approximation (RPA). In the underdoped region, both our methods resulted in the signatures of the upper branch of the spin excitation dispersion with the lowest excitation energy at the (π,π) wave vector and no presence of low-energy incommensurate excitations. In the high doping region, both methods produced a low energy response at four incommensurate wave vectors in qualitative agreement with the results of the inelastic neutron scattering experiments on overdoped cuprates.

Аннотация: We present experimental and theoetical results of spin crossover studies in magnetically ordered materials. The effect of spin crossovers on the electronic structure of transition metal oxides and on the Bose condensation of spin excitons in the vicinity of the spin crossover is considered. A new method for calculating the interatomic superexchange interaction in transition metal oxides is discussed that allows considering selective contributions of excited magnetic cation terms. Changes in the exchange interaction sign are predicted for spin crossovers for d5—d7 ions. In the RCoO3 family of rare-earth cobaltites, the ground state is nonmagnetic, but, as the temperature increases, thermal excitations of high-spin states give rise to a number of experimentally detectable features. In defective RCoO3 samples, stabilization of the high-spin term and ferromagnetic ordering are possible. Dynamical crossovers under external pumping and the dynamics of multiplicity, magnetization, and local lattice distortions are discussed. Geophysical implications of spin crossovers are considered, and metallic properties of Earth's mantle at a depth of 1400—1800 km are predicted.

Аннотация: In this work, the concentration and temperature dependence of the superconducting gap of the HTSC cuprate in the orthorhombic phase are obtained within the framework of the Hubbard model taking into account the exchange mechanism of pairing. To elucidate the reasons for the unexpectedly large s*-wave component of the superconducting gap in the overdoped regime, the electronic structure of low-energy excitations and the k-dependent contributions of pair states to the gap components were investigated. It is shown that the s*-wave component growth results from the shallowing of the electron pocket in the region of the s*-wave component maximum.

Exchange interaction -- Spin-orbital interaction -- Magnetic phase diagram -- Antiferromagnetism -- Ferromagnetism -- Hubbard model
Аннотация: The formation of the exchange interaction between HS Co3+ ions, which are excited in LaCoO3, is studied within the multielectron approach. Two main contributions appear to be antiferromagnetic (AFM) and ferromagnetic (FM). When the ground state is LS, the total interaction is AFM. The crossover to the HS state may result in the FM ordering. The mean-field magnetic phase diagrams on the plane spin gap-temperature have been calculated without and with spin-orbital interaction in the HS term. Without spin-orbital interaction the reentrant magnetic order is possible. The spin-orbital coupling removes the reentrant phase transition and stabilizes the LS state. For known from experimental data values of the spin gap and exchange interaction, the ideal stoichiometric LaCoO3 is very close to the LS–HS crossover and magnetic ordering border. The violations of local coordination and symmetry of the Co3+-oxygen complexes that take place in the intergrain boundaries, at the surface of single crystals, and in the thin films on the strained substrate, may result in the formation of the HS state and FM order for such materials.
