Аннотация: We consider a microcavity with degenerate dipole or hexapole eigenmodes. If the cavity is positioned between waveguides, degeneracy is lifted. However, we show that in a nonlinear microcavity the degeneracy is recovered at certain injected power. In application we consider a two-dimensional photonic crystal of GaAs rods holding two parallel waveguides and one defect made of Kerr media. We show that 100% efficiency channel dropping can be attained without a necessity to tune the resonant frequencies of the microcavity. В© 2013 Optical Society of America.

Аннотация: We present a two-dimensional photonic crystal design of four defect dielectric rods, which form a microcavity with eigenfrequencies residing in the propagating band of a directional waveguide. In this system, a nonrobust bound state in the continuum (BSC) occurs as a result of full destructive interference of the monopole and quadrupole modes, with the same parity at certain values of the material parameters of the defect rods. Due to the Kerr effect, a robust BSC arises in a self-adaptive way without necessity to tune the material parameters. The absence of the superposition principle in that nonlinear system gives rise to coupling of the BSC with injected light, resulting in a novel transmission resonance. Аннотация: A design of all-optical diode in L-shaped photonic crystal waveguide is proposed that uses the multistability of single nonlinear Kerr microcavity with two dipole modes. Asymmetry of the waveguide is achieved through different couplings of the dipole modes with the left and right legs of the waveguide. Using coupled mode theory we demonstrate an extremely high transmission contrast. The direction of optical diode transmission can be controlled by power or frequency of injected light. The theory agrees with the numerical solution of the Maxwell equations. (C) 2014 Optical Society of America

Аннотация: In the framework of the temporal coupled mode theory we consider bound states embedded in the continuum (BSC) of photonic crystal waveguide as a capacity for light storage. A symmetry protected BSC occurs in two off-channel microresonators positioned symmetrically relative to the waveguide. We demonstrate that the symmetry protected BSC captures a fraction of a light pulse due to the Kerr effect as the pulse passes by the microresonators. However the amount of captured light is found to be strongly sensitive to the parameters of the gaussian light pulse such as basic frequency, duration and intensity. In contrast to the above case the BSC resulted from a full destructive interference of two eigenmodes of a single microresonator accumulates a fixed amount of light dependent on the material parameters of the microresonator but independent of the light pulse. The BSCs in the Fabry-Perot resonator show similar effects. We also show that the accumulated light can be released by a secondary pulse. These phenomena pave a way for all-optical storage and release of light. (C) 2015 Optical Society of America

1-D photonic crystal -- Effect of temperature -- External electric field -- High sensitivity -- Isotropic state -- Microcavity modes -- Silver layer -- Transmission spectrums
Аннотация: Spectral manifestations of hybrid Tamm-microcavity modes in a 1D photonic crystal bounded with a silver layer and containing a nematic liquid crystal microcavity layer have been studied using numerical simulation. It is demonstrated that the hybrid modes can be effectively tuned owing to the high sensitivity of the liquid crystal to the temperature and external electric field variations. It is established that the effect of temperature on the transmission spectrum of the investigated structure is most pronounced at the point of the phase transition of the liquid crystal to the isotropic state, where the refractive index jump is observed.

Аннотация: Mode hybridization is a unique way to manipulate the mode inside a fixed cavity or at interface. For example, Tamm plasmon-polariton at solid interface can be spectrally shifted without tuning the interface. Experimental implementation of tunable hybrid Tamm-microcavity modes is reported. The hybrid modes are excited in a one-dimensional photonic crystal bounded with a gold layer by attaching a nematic liquid crystal microcavity. Coupling between Tamm plasmon-polariton and microcavity modes leads to repulsion of their dispersion curves controlled by the refractive index of a liquid crystal and the polarization of incident light. Effective tuning of hybrid modes through heating or applying an external electric field to the liquid crystal layer is demonstrated. The experimentally measured strength coupling value between Tamm and microcavity modes was 20.7 meV.

Аннотация: The article shows numerical calculation of the spectra for a metal-dielectric microcavity. The microcavity consists of a photonic crystal mirror, metallic mirror and a liquid crystal layer between them. It is shown that the system supports both symmetry-protected and Friedrich-Wintgen types of bound states in the continuum. The quality factor and position of resonant modes are effectively controlled by changing the system parameters or applying an external electric field to the liquid crystal layer.
