Аннотация: An experimental determination (both direct and indirect) of the characteristics of the magnetic microstructure, namely, the ferromagnetic correlation radius R-f and the rms fluctuation of the mean anisotropy D-1/2H-a, is performed for amorphous and nanocrystalline ferromagnets with a random anisotropy characterized by the quantities R-c and (DHa)-H-1/2, respectively. The magnetization curves of amorphous and nanocrystalline ferromagnets are found to exhibit a dependence on H that is caused by the alignment of the magnetizations of individual magnetic blocks with the field. Аннотация: The correlation of the atomic-order structure and the energy density of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in Co50Pd50 films is investigated. Structural models for nanocrystalline Co50Pd50 films are proposed. It is shown that processes of structural self-organization in the films form nontrivial atomic-order structures. These structures can exist owing to high elastic stresses, which apparently ensure the emergence of strong magnetic anisotropy (K-perpendicular to similar to 10(6) erg/cm(3)). Аннотация: The effect of annealing on the structure and physical properties of Co-Sm-O alloy films prepared using pulsed plasma deposition is investigated. It is found that Co-Sm-O films in the initial state possess superparamagnetic properties due to the presence of small-sized magnetic nanoparticles surrounded by dielectric layers of samarium oxide in the film structure. Upon annealing, the Co-Sm-O films undergo structural transformations and exhibit a number of magnetic properties (including those inherent in both soft and hard magnetic materials). Аннотация: HTSC Bi1.8Pb0.3Sr2Ca2Cu3Ox of low density has been synthesized and its structural and physical properties have been studied. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image shows that the material obtained has porous "foam" structure. The levitation force measured for the porous Bi1.8Pb0.3Sr2Ca2Cu3Ox is appeared to be approximately the same as for polycrystalline YBCO of high density. These "foam" structures may be an ideal material for some practical applications of HTSCs in bulk form. (c) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Аннотация: The magnetization curve and magnetization correlation function are calculated for a ferromagnetic chain of single-domain nanoparticles with a randomly oriented anisotropy axis for different ratios between the exchange correlation and anisotropy energies. It is shown that the coercive force decreases as the exchange correlations increase. For strong exchange correlations, the magnetization curve is described by the following three successive magnetization processes as the applied field is increased: (i) nonuniform rotation of the magnetization of stochastic domains, (ii) collapse of the magnetic solitons, and (iii) nonuniform rotation of exchange-correlated magnetization vectors of the nanoparticles. For high fields, the calculated correlation function of the transverse magnetization components coincides with that predicted from linear theory. At low and zero fields, the main parameters of the correlation function (the variance and correlation radius) tend to certain finite values rather than diverge (as is the case in linear theory). The irreversible variation in the magnetization at low fields (the hysteresis loop) and the hysteresis of the main parameters of the correlation function are calculated. Аннотация: The angular dependence of the magnetoresistance of polycrystalline Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2Cu3O7-CuO composites has been studied. These composites represent a system of Josephson junctions and exhibit a large magnetoresistance at 77 K. In addition to the isotropic component, there is the angle-dependent component proportional to sin(2)theta, where theta is the angle between the directions of current and magnetic field. This behavior is unambiguous evidence for the process of flux flow in the Josephson medium realized in the composites.

Аннотация: A new method of fabricating textured ceramics with a composition of Bi1.8Pb0.3Sr1.9Ca2Cu3Ox is described, according to which the initial low-density ceramics is subjected to uniaxial pressing in a liquid medium followed by drying and annealing. Analysis of the X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy data show evidence for a high degree of texture in high-temperature superconductor ceramics fabricated using the proposed method. The results of magnetic measurements indicate that the obtained material possesses anisotropy of the magnetic moment for the magnetic field H oriented parallel and perpendicular to the direction of uniaxial pressing. The textured ceramics also show high diamagnetic response for H parallel to the c axis of grains, which makes these ceramics promising materials for practical applications.

Аннотация: A new method of preparation of bulk textured Bi2223 ceramics and Bi2223 + Ag composites, based on room temperature pressing of foamed precursor (Bi2223, Bi2223 + Ag) in a liquid medium, is proposed. SEM and XRD data prove a high degree of texture of the bulk samples obtained. Magnetic measurements performed in directions H parallel to c-axis and H parallel to a-b-planes of Bi2223 crystallites demonstrates anisotropy of magnetization confirming the texture of the ceramics. The materials obtained possess large diamagnetic response in the direction H parallel to a-b-planes of Bi2223 crystallites at both 77.4 and 4.2 K.

Аннотация: The effect of an inert Co layer (0, 210, 480 nm) on the chemical interaction between Cu and Au in Au/beta-Co(001)/Cu(001) epitaxial films has been investigated by X-ray diffraction, nuclear magnetic resonance, photoelectron spectroscopy, and magnetic structure measurements. Mixing at interfaces in Cu/beta-Co(001) and Au/beta-Co(001) bilayer films has not been revealed up to a temperature of 600 C. The solid-state synthesis of ordered CuAu| and CuAu|| phases occurs through the Co inert buffer layer in Au/beta-Co(001)/Cu(001) trilayer film systems with an increase in the annealing temperature. The initiation temperatures of the CuAu| and CuAu|| phases increase only slightly with the thickness of the Co buffer layer. The assumption of the long range of the chemical interaction between Cu and Au through the chemically inert Co layer is justified using the performed investigations.

Аннотация: The field dependences of the magnetoresistance of Bi(1.8)Pb(0.3)Sr(1.9)Ca(2)Cu(3)O(x) samples with different densities, which have a foam microstructure and exhibit different diamagnetic responses, were studied at 77.4 K to identify the mechanism responsible for the formation of a negative magnetoresistance region in granular high-temperature superconductors. A region with negative magnetoresistance was found to exist in samples with magnetizations highest in absolute magnitude. This behavior finds a reasonable interpretation as due to the effect exerted by dipole moments of high-temperature superconductor grains on the effective intergranular field. The strength of this effective field has been estimated.

Аннотация: This paper reports on the results of the investigation of the relation between the magnetic microstructure and ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) in ferromagnetic metal-insulator composites by using granular alloys (Co41Fe39B20) (x) (SiO2)(1 - x) and Co (x) (SiO2)(1 - x) as an example. A comparative analysis of the properties of FMR spectra and parameters of random magnetic anisotropy leads to correlations between these quantities. It has been found that the main mechanism that determines the FMR line width in the films under investigation is the exchange narrowing mechanism.

Аннотация: The magnetic microstructure of nanostructured ferromagnets is represented by an ensemble of stochastic magnetic domains-regions with dimensions of the length of magnetic orientation coherency. It is shown that the curves displaying the approach of magnetization to saturation make it possible to determine the dimension of the element of the micromagnetic structure, i.e., the size of the stochastic domain and the constant of the effective anisotropy in this element, the size of the element of the nanostructure and the constant its local anisotropy, as well as the dimensionality of the exchange-coupled ferromagnetic nanoparticles.

Аннотация: Metallic nickel nanoparticles of various sizes are formed in a thin near-surface layer in an amorphous SiO2 matrix during 40-keV Ni+ ion implantation at a dose of (0.25-1.0) x 10(17) ions/cm(2). The micro-structure of the irradiated layer and the crystal structure, morphology, and sizes of nickel particles formed at various irradiation doses are studied by transmission electron microscopy and electron diffraction. The magnetooptical Faraday effect and the magnetic circular dichroism in an ensemble of nickel nanoparticles are studied in the optical range. The permittivity (epsilon) over cap tensor components are calculated for the implanted samples using an effective medium model with allowance for the results of magnetooptical measurements. The spectral dependences of the tensor (epsilon) over cap components are found to be strongly different from those of a continuous metallic nickel film. These differences are related to a disperse structure of the magnetic nickel phase and to a surface plasma resonance in the metal nanoparticles.

Аннотация: High-temperature G0 polymorph of Rb2KMoO3F3 has been prepared by melt solidification. Micromorphology and chemical properties of the final product were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The elpasolite-related crystal structure of G0-Rb2KMoO3F3 has been refined by Rietveld method at T = 298 K (space group Fm-3m, a = 8.92446(8) Å, V = 710.76(1) Å3; RB = 3.55%). Ferroelectric G1-Rb2KMoO3F3 polymorph, earlier reported at T˂328 K, is not found at T = 298 K.

Аннотация: The electroless plating is used to synthesize two types of composite powder, such as the activated carbon with pores filled by Co100-XPX particles and the Al2O3 microgranular coated by the shell which consists of Co100-XPX particles with 4 X 18. The magnetic and structural properties of the composite particles are characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and vibrating sample magnetometer. It is found that the average Co(P) particle size in composite powders decreases from 300 nm to 120 nm with an increase in P- content from 4 to 18 at. %. It causes a reduction in coercivity from 300 to 80 Oe for Al2O3/Co(P) powders and from 680 to 150 Oe for C/Co(P) powders. The effects of two methods of immobilization of Co(P) particles on magnetic properties are studied.
