Аннотация: The morphotypes of human macrophages (MPh) were studied in the culture on nano-structured substrates, made from polyhydroxyalcanoates (PHAs) of various monomer compositions, prepared by casting polymer solutions on a defatted glass and followed by the solvent evaporation. Its surface relief, being further in direct contact with human cells in vitro was analyzed by AFM and SEM scanning. It was shown, that the features of micro/nano relief depend on the monomeric composition of polymer substrates. Monocytes (MNs) of patients with atherosclerosis and cardiac ischemia undergoing stenting and conventional anti-atherosclerotic therapy were harvested prior to and after stenting. After isolation MNs were cultured and transformed into MPh in direct contact with biopolymer culture substrates with different monomer composition and Nano-reliefs in comparison with culture plastic. Sub-populations of cells with characteristic morphology in each phenotypic class were described and their ratios for five samples of polymers were counted as an intermediate result in the development of “smart” material for blood vessel recovery. The results obtained allow us to assume that the processes of MPh differentiation and polarization in vitro depend not only on the features of the micro/nano relief of biopolymer substrates but also on the initial state of MNs in vivo and the general response of patients.

Аннотация: The structure consisting of alternating uniaxial dielectric layers is known to produce reflection of the same polarization as the incident field; e.g., the right-hand elliptically polarized light preserves this right-handedness and ellipticity of polarization at reflection. The parameters permitting the properly-polarized reflectance to exceed 99% in a wide frequency range were considered both analytically and numerically. The mirror with tuned top-layer thickness is shown to have several times less polarization losses than the uniform mirror. The hybrid mirror with metallic bottom layer has a considerably reduced thickness.

Аннотация: SmFe3(BO3)4 single crystals have been grown from the bismuth trimolybdate and lithium tungstate-based melt–solutions. Samarium ferroborate single crystals were grown first from the lithium–tungstate flux. The magnetic and magnetoelectric properties of the synthesized crystals have been compared. It is shown that the SmFe3(BO3)4 ferroborate grown from the bismuth trimolybdate-based melt–solution contains impurities of Bi3+ ions (∼5% at.), which replace Sm3+ ions, while the SmFe3(BO3)4, ferroborate grown from the lithium tungstate-based melt–solution contains minor or zero amounts of such impurities. The magnetoelectric and magnetodielectric effects with the Bi3+ admixture appeared 1.5× stronger than in SmFe3(BO3)4; this is probably due to twinning.

Sub-populations of cells with characteristic morphology in each phenotypic class were described, and their quantitative ratios for each sample of polymers were counted as an intermediate result in the development of “smart” material for cardiovascular devices. The results obtained allow us to assume, that the processes of MPh differentiation and polarization in vitro depend not only on the features of the micro/nano relief of biopolymer substrates, but also on the initial state of MN in vivo and general response of patients.

Аннотация: The article presents, for the first time, the results of the research on composite film obtained from hydroxylated endohedral metallofullerenes (EMF) Y@C82, Y2@C82, with Y2C2@C82 and highest fullerenes as dopant. The composite film has been established to have electric conductivity and to be a ferroelectric with the value of residual polarization of ∼0.75 μC/cm2. The impedance spectroscopy of this sample allowed us to determine dispersion of dielectric permittivity and conductivity in the range of frequencies of 0.5 Hz–100 MHz. It is stated that the value of the high-frequency dielectric permittivity of films is ε′∞ = 2.8. However, with reduction in the electric field frequency, real and imaginary parts of ε increase to values ∼104–105. Such increase in dielectric permittivity is connected with increase in polarizing caused by accumulation of mobile electric charges (electrons of ions, protons) on boundaries of the structural defects of a film, which are divided by thin dielectric interlayers. The film is solid electrolyte with the ionic conductivity of ∼5 × 10−7 S/cm.

Аннотация: To establish the existence of dipole glass in the chromium-substituted bismuth pyrostannate solid solutions, the frequency and temperature dependences of the permittivity have been measured in the temperature range of 300–750 K. The field and dynamic dependences of polarization in the temperature range of 80–550 K have been determined. Using the Raman scattering spectra, the absence of inversion center has been established. The maximum of electrical resistance has been found in the vicinity of the dipole moment freezing point. The carrier type has been determined from the thermopower data. The polarization relaxation is shown to be nonexponential. The experimental data are explained within the model of dipole glass in the α- phase and the model of charged crystalline domain walls with the electron-polarization relaxation mechanism above the α–β structural transition.

Аннотация: An optical-mechanical model has been developed to describe the transmittance, polarization and small-angle distribution of light scattered by an uniaxially-stretched polymer film containing the elongated ellipsoidal droplets of nematic liquid crystal. It is based on the approximations of Foldy-Twersky, anomalous diffraction, and single scattering. The spectral dependences of transmittances and polarizing abilities of the polymer dispersed liquid crystal films have been analyzed as well as the small-angle intensity distribution and the polarization degree of scattered light depending on the film thicknesses, refractive index of polymer matrix, sizes of droplets, their anisometry parameters, concentration, polydispersity, and optical axes orientation. The optical characteristics of films with homogeneous and inhomogeneous interfacial anchoring at the surface of liquid crystal droplets have been considered. The transmittance and polarizing ability of the films have been studied as functions of the angular aperture of the system recording scattered light. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd
