Аннотация: A set of polyhydroxyalkanoates are synthesized, and a comparative study of their physicochemical properties is performed. The molecular masses and polydispersities of polyhydroxyalkanoates are found to be independent of their chemical structures. It is shown that the temperature characteristics and degrees of crystallinity of polyhydroxyalkanoates are affected by the chemical compositions of the monomers and their quantitative contents in the polymers. The incorporation of 4-hydroxybutyrate, 3-hydroxyvalerate, and 3-hydroxyhexanoate units into the chain of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) decreases its melting point and thermal degradation temperature relative to these parameters of a homogeneous poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) sample (175 +/- 5A degrees C and 275 +/- 5A degrees C, respectively). The higher the content of the second monomer units in the poly(3-hydroxybutirate) chain, the greater the changes. The degrees of crystallinity of polyhydroxyalkanoate copolymers are generally lower than that of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (75 +/- 5%). The effect on the ratio of the amorphous and crystalline phases of the copolymer samples becomes more pronounced in the series 3-hydroxy-valerate-3-hydroxyhexanoate-4-hydroxybutyrate. The prepared samples exhibit different properties ranging from rigid thermoplastic materials to engineering elastomers.

Аннотация: The structural, magnetic, and thermophysical properties of cation-substituted sulfides GdXMn1-XS (0.04 ? X ? 0.25) with the NaCl-type face-centered cubic lattice have been investigated. The range of existence of long-range antiferromagnetic order has been established. The anomalies observed in the temperature dependence of the specific heat correspond to the temperatures of the magnetic phase transition. The anomaly in the specific heat caused by electron transitions between the 4f levels and d band states has been observed. It has been found that the coefficient of thermal expansion decreases with increasing concentration of substituents in the magnetically ordered region and remains nearly invariable in the paramagnetic phase. Аннотация: Four new compounds, the discrete complex [Ni(H2O) 6](HTBA)2 .2H2O (1) and the polymers Ni(H2O)2(HTBA-O,S)2 (2), Co(H 2O)2(HTBA-O,S)2 (3) and Fe(H2O) 2(HTBA-O,S)2 (4) (H2TBA = 2-thiobarbituric acid, C4H4N2O2S), have been synthesized and structurally characterized. The structure of 1 has been solved by X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis. The Ni(H2O) 6 2+ cation has an almost ideal octahedral geometry, and there is no coordination of Ni(II) by HTBA- in 1. Complexes 2-4 have been characterized by powder XRD, TG-DSC and FT-IR. In the isostructural polymers 2-4, the metals are six-coordinated, and the octahedrons are connected by μ2-O,S bridging ligands. Each of the M(II) ions is surrounded by two water molecules, two O-coordinated HTBA- ions and two S-coordinated HTBA- ions, with all pairs being in trans-positions. Hydrogen bonding and π-π interactions play an important role for the construction of the supramolecular 3D structures of 2-4. The formation of the complexes has been evidenced by infrared spectroscopy. The thermal decomposition of 2-4 under oxidative conditions has been divided into three major stages: dehydration, oxidative degradation of the organic moiety and transformation of the inorganic residue. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd. Аннотация: A relation of the effective refractive index of a two-dimensional polycrystalline dielectric film in the transparency region to the refractive indices n1 and n2 of crystallites at the positions of axes 1 and 2, respectively, of refraction ellipsoids of the crystallites in the plane of the film has been obtained. This relation and the relation L* = (L1 + L2)/2 between the components of the Lorentz tensors for the film and crystallites have been confirmed by comparison with experimental data for conjugate-polymer films with uniaxial domains.

Аннотация: The use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) for monitoring, studying and performing output quality measurements of the acrylate-based polymeric patterns manufactured using stereolithography (SL) was introduced in this work. The effects of build parameters and humid environment on sample homogeneity, distribution of crosslink density, stability and defect formation were examined. The spatial resolution of the method was found to be sufficient to identify patterns according to the build parameters used and to detect specific hatch-predicted crosslink density variations. Qualitative information obtained using MRI visualisation was supplemented by quantitative measurements of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) relaxation times and 1H NMR spectra. NMR spectroscopy confirmed the identity of the chemical composition among the patterns and showed that the crosslink density variation observed via spatially resolved T2-profiles stems from the difference of the build parameters. Different types of defects in the samples were observed and classified; some defects originated from local matrix continuity failures (partially cured resin trapping within the polymer or bubbles formation), while other defects were found in the form of bulk layering. MRI visualisation coupled with relaxometry and 1H spectroscopy of patterns during their interaction with humidity allowed tracking water distribution inside the sample and observing effects of swelling, fracturing and chemical decomposition. It was found that the initial inhomogeneous structure of the specimen has a crucial role in subsequent fracturing due to non-uniform expansion of the swollen parts. As a result, the approach presented in this work improves the output quality control and current testing techniques, provides insight how physical properties of the 3D parts are affected by different technical parameters, and eventually can help the use of SL technologies for a variety of applications. © 2016 Elsevier B.V.

Аннотация: Using the data on dispersion of refractive indices in the visible region, the experimental values of the components L-j of the Lorentz tensor have been obtained for uniaxial (crystalline, oriented on a substrate, and stretched) films of conjugated polymers from nanometer to micrometer thicknesses. The dependence of the components L-j on the axial and planar orientations of macromolecules with respect to the optical axis of the film, technology of fabricating the films, and chemical structure of macromolecules has been elucidated. Аннотация: Experimental values of the Lorentz tensor components L-j for uniaxial quasi-two dimensional "soft matter" objects on substrates (bilayer lipid membranes, multilayer Langmuir films, smectics A, hexatic smectics B, submicron films of discotics Col(hd), micron anisotropic films of liquid-crystal comblike polymers and macromolecular polymers, submicron films of conjugated conductive polymers), freely suspended sub-micron films of smectics A, and uniaxially stretched micron films of conjugated conductive polymers have been determined using dispersion of refractive indices in the visible range. The dependences of the components L-j on the type of orientation (axial, planar) of uniaxial molecules (structural units of the film) with respect to the optical axis of the film, the film thickness, the substrate type, the chemical structure of molecules, and their long-range orientational order are established. It is revealed that the smectic A-hexatic B phase transition and two-dimensional crystallization of the smectic layer lead to changes in the components L-j due to the change in the orientational ordering of molecules as a result of the relation between the orientational and hexatic order parameters. All the above objects are characterized by isotropization of the Lorentz tensor L and the local-field tensor f with a simultaneous decrease in the birefringence of the sample and in the anisotropy of the molecular polarizability due to the change in the electronic structure of molecules. The correction for the anisotropy of the local-field tensor f to the orientational order parameter or the anisotropy of the molecular polarizability increases. The existing model approaches to calculating the components L-j for the objects under consideration are compared with the experimental data.

Аннотация: The magnetization of cation-substituted CoxMn(1-x)S sulfides upon cooling in zero magnetic field and in a field in the temperature range 4-300 K has been measured and the resistance versus magnetic field (up to 10 kOe) dependences have been obtained. Magnetoresistance and temperature hysteresis of magnetization versus prehistory are found at the magnetic field H 0.1 T and at T 240 K. The interrelation between the magnetic and elastic subsystems of the CoxMn1-xS solid solutions has been established. A jump in the coefficient of thermal expansion is observed at the Neel temperature. The features of the physical properties are explained by orbital ordering. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. Аннотация: A method is developed for modeling and computing the angular distribution of light scattered forward from a single-layer polymer-dispersed liquid-crystal (PDLC) film. The method is based on effective-medium approximation, anomalous diffraction approximation, and far-field single-scattering approximation. The angular distribution of forward-scattered light is analyzed for PDLC films with droplet size larger than the optical wavelength. The method can be used to study field- and temperature-induced phase transitions in LC droplets with cylindrical symmetry by measuring polarized scattered light intensity.

Аннотация: In the Eden model, we investigate how the tree growth parameter depends on the space dimension d for face-centered hypercubic lattices. We find the first three terms of the 1/d-expansion for this parameter directly from the generating function without calculating the number of trees because the growth parameter is the reciprocal coordinate of the singular point of the tree generating function. The same growth parameter was calculated by computer experiment where the ratios between the numbers of trees without intersections and trees without restrictions in the dimensions 3, 4, 6, 8, and 10 were estimated by the Monte Carlo method on face-centered cubic lattices. The results of the two methods agree well. Comparing with the previously performed computer experiment for simple hypercubic lattices, we observe that the values of the singular exponents for the tree generating functions are close for two different types of lattices.

Аннотация: We use the Monte Carlo method to compute the number of trees with n edges in the Eden model on d-dimensional simple cubic lattices for d = 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10. We compare these numbers with the exact data derived by the enumeration method up to n = 12 on the square lattice and up to n = 10 on the cubic lattice. We find that for d greater than or equal to 3, the computed values of the growth parameter for trees agree with the values that we derived earlier by the expansion in inverse powers of 2d - 1.

Аннотация: Time-dependent autocorrelation functions are investigated for the Heisenberg model with spins 1/2 on d-dimensional simple cubic lattices of large dimensions d at infinite temperature. The autocorrelation function on the imaginary time axis is interpreted as the generating function of bond trees constructed with double bonds. These trees provide the leading terms with respect to lid for the time-expansion coefficients of the autocorrelation function. The correction terms from branch intersections to the generating function in the Bethe approximation are derived for these trees. A procedure is suggested for finding the correction to the coordinate of the singular point of the generating function (i.e., to the reciprocal of the branch growth-rate parameter) from the above correction terms without calculating the number of trees. The leading correction terms of order 1/sigma(2) (where sigma = 2d - 1) are found for the coordinates of the singular points of the autocorrelation function in question and for the generating function of the trees constructed with single bonds in the Eden model.

Аннотация: Two new isostructural complexes, [Ca(H2O)2(μ2-Detba-O,O′)2]n (1) and [Sr(H2O)2(μ2-Detba-O,O′)2]n (2) (HDetba = 1,3-diethyl-2-thiobarbituric acid), were synthesized and characterized by single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction analysis, TG-DSC, FT-IR, and emission spectroscopy. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction data revealed that 1 and 2 are polymeric where M2+ (M = Ca, Sr) is a six-coordinate octahedral binding four Detba− ions and two water molecules. The octahedra are linked through bridging Detba− ions forming a 2-D layer. Two intermolecular hydrogen bonds O–H…S in the crystal form a 3-D net. The comparison of M(Detba)2 and M(Htba)2 (H2tba = 2-thiobarbituric acid) structures showed that the coordination number of metals in M(Detba)2 does not exceed six and there are no π–π interactions, unlike compounds with Htba−; Detba− ions are only bridges in HDetba coordination compounds. Thermal decomposition of 1 and 2 includes dehydration, which mainly ends at 200 °C, and organic ligand oxidation at 300–350 °C with a release of CO2, SO2, H2O, NH3, and isocyanate. Upon excitation at 220 nm, 1 and 2 exhibit an intense emission maximum at 557 nm.

Аннотация: The homogeneous nematic layers in liquid crystal cells with treated surfaces are affected by orientational transitions in the electric, magnetic, or temperature fields. The liquid crystal structures formed on solid or liquid surfaces find limited application in identifying the liquid-crystal states by the textures observed in polarized light. The use of surfaces prepared from polymer solutions makes it possible to significantly broaden the range of application of the liquid crystal structures. We investigate the structures with the continuous transformation of the nematic director orientation from radial to planar, which were formed by the polycarbonate surface in the presence of different residual solvents. The structures contained the disclination lines that aligned either by a plate rubbed to provide the homogeneous planar orientation in the LC layer or by a magnetic field applied along the polycarbonate film during the structure formation. The orientational transitions caused by surface treatment, temperature, and electric or magnetic fields in these structures are observed. The comparison of temperature critical distance as well as electric and magnetic coherence lengths with equilibrium length calculated from the expression for the free energy of the nematic is performed. The electro-optical characteristics of the nematic structures are obtained.

Аннотация: An optico-mechanical model describing the coherent (directed) transmittance and the degree of polarization of forward-transmitted light by a polymer film with elongated liquid-crystal (LC) drops has been developed. This model, based on the Foldy–Twersky and anomalous-diffraction approximations, makes it possible to analyze the optical response of a film under extension as a function of the film thickness, refractive index of the polymer, the sizes and anisometry parameters of liquid-crystal drops, their concentration, internal structure, polydispersity, and orientation of optical axes. The model is verified based on the comparison of numerical and experimental data for the inverse modification of interfacial anchoring by an ion-forming surfactant. The internal drop structure is determined by solving the problem of minimizing the volume free energy density. A comparative analysis of the calculated transmittance and degree of polarization for films with uniform homeotropic and modified inhomogeneous interfacial anchoring is performed. The spectral polarization characteristics of a film with elongated LC drops and single-domain internal structure, formed under mechanical extension with the aid of surfactants, are investigated. © 2017, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Аннотация: When carbon condensate (CC) is synthesized by spraying graphite rods containing doping powders in arc discharge plasma, usually, in addition to fullerenes, nanoparticles, metal nanoparticles with a carbon shell or nanoparticles of metal carbide are formed [1]. The description of a procedure for the preparation of polymers based on fullerenes and nanodispersed titanium carbide particles and the results of investigation of these polymers will be given in this paper. Titanium and titanium oxide are used as doping powders. The solutions extracted with carbon disulfide are filtered through paper filters. According to X-ray diffraction analysis and transmission electron microscope, the carbon disulphide extract from CC synthesized with the inputting of metallic titanium, does not contain nanoparticles of this metal or its carbide and is characterized by the presence of fullerite clusters (extract 1). While the extract from the CC synthesized with the titanium oxide inputting contains TiC nanoparticles with size of 7–10 nm, while fullerenes are also contained, but in the amorphous state (extract 2) of Fig.1. HPLC analysis of the fullerenes toluene solution, obtained by redissolution of extract 1, allowed to isolate the fullerenes with the usual composition and with the usual ratio between components (C60 – 74.4 %, C70 – 18.9 % and higher fullerenes – 6.7 %). The redissolution of extract 2 in toluene, did not allow to obtain fullerenes solution. Thus, the presence of nanodispersive particles of TiC in the fullerenes solution, upon their drying, leads to polymers formation.

Аннотация: Для одноосной пленки сопряженного полимера с макромолекулами в виде наборов субъединиц разной длины установлена связь компонент e(1,2)j(w) диэлектрической функции ej(w) = e1j(w) + ie2j(w) с параметром ориентационного порядка s дипольных моментов молекулярных переходов, отвечающих изолированной полосе поглощения света c поляризацией вдоль (j = || ) и нормально (j =. ) оптической оси пленки. Новые методы определения s реализованы для пленки полимера P3OT с плоскостной ориентацией субъединиц и известными зависимостями e(1,2)j(w) в областях прозрачности и низкочастотного электронного поглощения. Учтена анизотропия компонент fj(w) = 1 + Lj[ej(w) - 1] тензора локального поля. Экспериментальные значения компонент Lj тензора Лорентца для пленки P3OT определены с использованием зависимостей e1j(w) в видимой области прозрачности. Показано совместное влияние длины и ориентационного порядка субъединиц, а также динамических диполь-дипольных взаимодействий между субъединицами (эффектов локального поля) на положение максимумов полос e2j(w).The uniaxial film of conjugated polymer with macromolecules as a set of subunits of different lengths was studied. For this film, the connection between the components e(1,2)j(w) of the dielectric function ej(w) = e1j(w) + ie2j(w) and the orientation order parameter s was established. The orientation order parameter s of the dipole moments of molecular transitions corresponds to an isolated absorption band of light with polarization along (j = ||) and across (j =. the optical axis of the film. New methods have been implemented for determining s of the P3OT polymer film. The P3OT polymer film is characterized by a planar orientation of subunits and known dependences e(1,2)j(w) in the regions of transparency and low-frequency electron absorption. The anisotropy of the components fj(w) = 1 + Lj[ej(w) - 1] of the local-field tensor was taken into account. The experimental values of the components Lj of the Lorentz tensor for the P3OT film were determined using the dependences e1j(w) in the visible transparency region. The combined effect of the length and orientation order of the subunits, as well as dynamic dipole-dipole interactions between subunits (local-field effects) on the position of the maxima of the e2j(w) bands was shown.

Аннотация: Films were prepared from 2% solutions of biodegradable poly-3-hydroxybutyrate [P(3HB)] and investigated. The polymer was synthesized by the Cupriavidus necator B-10646 bacterium cultivated using various carbon sources (glucose and glycerol of different degrees of purity, containing 0.3 to 17.93% impurities). Glycerol as the substrate influenced molecular-weight properties and crystallinity of the polymer without affecting its temperature characteristics. The P(3HB) specimens synthesized from glycerol had reduced Mw (300–400 kDa) and degree of crystallinity (50–55%) compared to the specimens synthesized from glucose (860 kDa and 76%, respectively). The low-crystallinity P(3HB) specimens, regardless of the degree of purity of glycerol, produced a beneficial effect on the properties of polymer films, which had a better developed folded surface and increased hydrophilicity. The values of the highest roughness (Ra) of the films synthesized from glycerol were 1.8 to 4.0 times lower and the water angles 1.4–1.6 times smaller compared to the films synthesized from glucose (71.75 nm and 87.4°, respectively). Those films performed better as cell scaffolds: the number of viable NIH fibroblasts was 1.7–1.9 times higher than on polystyrene (control) or films of P(3HB) synthesized from glucose.
