Аннотация: Complexes of zigzag-type carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with transition metal atoms, scandium and titanium, were studied. It was demonstrated that the energy of binding of both atoms with a carbon surface decreases whereas the rate of diffusion along the surface increases with increasing nanotube diameter. The rate constant of migration of scandium atoms over a CNT surface are several orders of magnitude higher than that for titanium atoms, because the CNT surface-Sc atom binding energy is substantially lower.

Аннотация: We fabricated Cu-doped TiNxOy thin film resistors by using atomic layer deposition, optical lithography, dry etching, Ti/Cu/Ti/Au e-beam evaporation and lift-off processes. The results of the measurements of the resistance temperature dependence, non-linearity, S-parameters at 0.01–26 GHz and details of the breakdown mechanism under high-voltage stress are reported. The devices’ sheet resistance is 220 ± 8 Ω/□ (480 ± 20 µΩ*cm); intrinsic resistance temperature coefficient (TCR) is ~400 ppm/°C in the T-range of 10–300 K; and S-parameters versus frequency are flat up to 2 GHz with maximum variation of 10% at 26 GHz. The resistors can sustain power and current densities up to ~5 kW*cm−2 and ~2 MA*cm−2, above which they switch to high-resistance state with the sheet resistance equal to ~200 kΩ/□ (~0.4 Ω*cm) caused by nitrogen and copper desorption from TiNxOy film. The Cu/Ti/TiNxOy contact is prone to ageing due to gradual titanium oxidation while the TiNxOy resistor body is stable. The resistors have strong potential for applications in high-frequency integrated and hybrid circuits that require small-footprint, medium-range resistors of 0.05–10 kΩ, with small TCR and high-power handling capability.

Аннотация: The use of carbon nanotubes coated by atoms of transition metals to store molecular hydrogen is associated with the problem of the aggregation of these atoms, which leads to the formation of metal clusters. The quantum-chemical simulation of cluster models of the carbon surface of a graphene type with scandium and titanium atoms has been performed. It has been shown that the presence of five- and seven-membered rings, in addition to six-membered rings, in these structures makes it possible to strongly suppress the processes of the migration of metal atoms over the surface, preventing their clustering.

Аннотация: This paper focuses on the processes of the occurrence of magnetization during structure formation in samples of Ni51Ti49 alloy under deformation conditions. The possibility of the existence of a phase with an FCC (face-centered cubic) lattice in titanium nickelide has been demonstrated by electron microscopy and electron diffraction. It has been discovered that the interplanar distances of BCC110 (body-centered cubic), FCC111, and HCP002 (hexagonal close packed) in the alloy under study have similar values, which indicates the possibility of their mutual polymorphic transformation. Based on the modular self-organization, a scheme of martensitic transformations in titanium nickelide from the B2 structure (BCC lattice) to the B19' structure (HCP lattice) through an intermediate phase with an FCC lattice is proposed. It is shown that lenticular crystals appear in the Ni51Ti49 alloy under tensile deformation until rupture, which is accompanied by the onset of ferromagnetism. The effect of magnetization in Ni51Ti49 samples when immersed in liquid nitrogen has been also discovered. In this case, the reason for the appearance and disappearance of magnetization can be associated with microdeformation processes caused by direct and reverse martensitic transitions that occur during cooling and heating of the samples.

Аннотация: For extraction of higher fullerenes and endohedral metallofullerenes (EMF) with yttrium from fullerene-containing carbon soot (soot) obtained by combined spraying of graphite and yttrium oxide powders in an arc plasma, we developed a device (Extractor*) that provides mechanical activation effects on agents combined with filtration. It has been shown that the soot recovery percentage of a mixture of higher fullerenes and EMF with different solvents (carbon disulfide, o-xylene, pyridine) and the EMF mass fraction in the mixture is significantly higher than in the extraction with a Soxhlet apparatus traditionally used for these purposes. The time spent on the extraction process is reduced significantly. Due to a known reaction with titanium chloride (TiCl4) and removal of a solution of empty fullerenes, subsequent bonding of EMF with yttrium into an insoluble complex directly in the extractor allows the product to be significantly enriched with EMF. In general, we were able to significantly reduce both the duration of extraction of the fullerenes mixture and EMF and the production of EMF separately.

Аннотация: We have made investigations of the phase formation and microstructure on the ceramics obtained from a starting nanopowder mixture with the weight ratio ZnO : TiO2 = 4 : 1. Ceramic is obtained at different sintering temperatures, namely, 948, 1223 and 1473 К. Using the characterization methods of electron microscopy, energy dispersive microanalysis and X-ray diffraction phase analysis it has been shown that the ceramics structure is consisted of two dispersed phases of Zn2TiO4 and ZnO with the grain sizes being in range 0,5-1 μm. It has been found also that, at ceramic`s sintering temperature of 1223 К, the solid phase interactions are completed with the structure ZnO : Zn2TiO4 ≈ 1 : 1,5 phase ratio.

Аннотация: When carbon condensate (CC) is synthesized by spraying graphite rods containing doping powders in arc discharge plasma, usually, in addition to fullerenes, nanoparticles, metal nanoparticles with a carbon shell or nanoparticles of metal carbide are formed [1]. The description of a procedure for the preparation of polymers based on fullerenes and nanodispersed titanium carbide particles and the results of investigation of these polymers will be given in this paper. Titanium and titanium oxide are used as doping powders. The solutions extracted with carbon disulfide are filtered through paper filters. According to X-ray diffraction analysis and transmission electron microscope, the carbon disulphide extract from CC synthesized with the inputting of metallic titanium, does not contain nanoparticles of this metal or its carbide and is characterized by the presence of fullerite clusters (extract 1). While the extract from the CC synthesized with the titanium oxide inputting contains TiC nanoparticles with size of 7–10 nm, while fullerenes are also contained, but in the amorphous state (extract 2) of Fig.1. HPLC analysis of the fullerenes toluene solution, obtained by redissolution of extract 1, allowed to isolate the fullerenes with the usual composition and with the usual ratio between components (C60 – 74.4 %, C70 – 18.9 % and higher fullerenes – 6.7 %). The redissolution of extract 2 in toluene, did not allow to obtain fullerenes solution. Thus, the presence of nanodispersive particles of TiC in the fullerenes solution, upon their drying, leads to polymers formation.

Аннотация: Regular arrays of plasmonic nanoparticles have brought significant attention over the last decade due to their ability to support localized surface plasmons (LSPs) and exhibit diffractive grating behavior simultaneously. For a specific set of parameters (i.e., period, particle shape, size, and material), it is possible to generate super-narrow surface lattice resonances (SLRs) that are caused by interference of the LSP and the grating Rayleigh anomaly. In this letter, we propose plasmonic structures based on regular 2D arrays of TiN nanodisks to generate high-Q SLRs in an important telecommunication range, which is quite difficult to achieve with conventional plasmonic materials. The position of the SLR peak can be tailored within the whole telecommunication bandwidth (from ≈ 1.26 μm to ≈ 1.62 μm) by varying the lattice period, while the Q-factor is controlled by changing nanodisk sizes. We show that the Q-factor of SLRs can reach a value of 2 × 103, which is the highest reported Q-factor for SLRs at telecommunication wavelengths so far. Tunability of optical properties, refractory behavior, and low-cost fabrication of TiN nanoparticles paves the way for manufacturing cheap nanostructures with extremely stable and adjustable electromagnetic response at telecommunication wavelengths for a large number of applications.

Аннотация: Significant process has been made on the development of semi-artificial photosynthesis catering to the production of H2– and CO2– derived value-added products. But there are little reports on the application of semi-artificial photosynthetic system to nitrogen fixation areas. In this study we report the successful and highly efficient N2 fixation in one step at room temperature and ambient pressure by constructing new semi-artificial photosynthetic systems based on material-cell hybrids and microbial photo-electrolysis cells (MPECs). Improved TiO2/Chlorophyll composite that annealed at 400 °C was selected as electron donator to replenish additional electrons to Nostoc commune Vauch microalgae cell for N2 fixation. Ubiquinone-0 (2,3-dimethoxy-5-methyl-1,4-benzoquinone, Q0) was selected as electron relay that guarantees efficient transmission of electrons from abiotic material to microalgae cells. Determined by an ammonia assay kit, at constant concentration of microalgae, the constructed material-cell hybrid system photosynthetically synthesized 40.67 μM/h ammonia, while H-shape MPECs synthesized 132.70 μM/h, 19.23 times higher than that produced by pure microalgae. Using 15N2 as the reduction gas, the constructed H-shape MPECs photosynthetically synthesized 28.37 μM/h 15NH4+, 2.80 time higher than that of the MPECs without Q0 as electron relay.

Аннотация: Copper-doped titanium oxynitride (TiNxOy) thin films were grown by atomic layer deposition (ALD) using the TiCl4 precursor, NH3, and O2 at 420 °C. Forming gas was used to reduce the background oxygen concentration and to transfer the copper atoms in an ALD chamber prior to the growth initiation of Cu-doped TiNxOy. Such forming gas-mediated Cu-doping of TiNxOy films had a pronounced effect on their resistivity, which dropped from 484 ± 8 to 202 ± 4 μΩ cm, and also on the resistance temperature coefficient (TCR), which decreased from 1000 to 150 ppm °C–1. We explored physical mechanisms causing this reduction by performing comparative analysis of atomic force microscopy, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, optical spectra, low-temperature transport, and Hall measurement data for the samples grown with and without forming gas doping. The difference in the oxygen concentration between the films did not exceed 6%. Copper segregated to the TiNxOy surface where its concentration reached 0.72%, but its penetration depth was less than 10 nm. Pronounced effects of the copper doping by forming gas included the TiNxOy film crystallite average size decrease from 57–59 to 32–34 nm, considerably finer surface granularity, electron concentration increase from 2.2(3) × 1022 to 3.5(1) × 1022 cm–3, and the electron mobility improvement from 0.56(4) to 0.92(2) cm2 V–1 s–1. The DC resistivity versus temperature R(T) measurements from 4.2 to 300 K showed a Cu-induced phase transition from a disordered to semimetallic state. The resistivity of Cu-doped TiNxOy films decreased with the temperature increase at low temperatures and reached the minimum near T = 50 K revealing signatures of the quantum interference effects similar to 2D Cu thin films, and then, semimetallic behavior was observed at higher temperatures. In TiNxOy films grown without forming gas, the resistivity decreased with the temperature increase as R(T) = – 1.88T0.6 + 604 μΩ cm with no semimetallic behavior observed. The medium range resistivity and low TCR of Cu-doped TiNxOy make this material an attractive choice for improved matching resistors in RF analog circuits and Si complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor integrated circuits.

Аннотация: We have successfully synthesized magnetic titanium nickelide nanoparticles with equiatomic composition by pulsed laser ablation method. Using transmission electron microscopy and microanalysis was revealed that particles represent the homogeneous conglomerates containing identical amount of Ni and Ti atoms. The magnetization value of nanoparticles was estimated.

Аннотация: The Pb3Mn7O15 crystals doped with titanium ions have been synthesized. The study of the structural properties has shown that titanium ions occupy positions in the interplane columns, which weakens the exchange coupling between the planes. Two anomalies in the temperature dependences of magnetization and heat capacity at 62 and 35 K have been found. It has been supposed that, at 62 K, the long-range magnetic order arises and, at 35 K, a spin-reorientation transition, as in the Pb3Mn7O15 compound, occurs.

Аннотация: The anodic TiO2 photonic crystals evoke great interest for application as photocatalytic media due to high absorption of light resuling from their specific structure. In this work, the optical properties of the photonic crystal based on a bamboo-type TiO2 nanotube with a metallic coating are analyzed theoretically by the finite-difference time-domain method. The occurrence of Tamm plasmons that appears as a peak in the absorption spectrum is predicted. A Tamm plasmon polariton is a localized state of light excited at the boundary of two highly reflective media, a metal and a Bragg reflector. The integral absorption of the gold-, titanium-, and titanium nitride-coated photonic crystals in the wavelength range of 450–600 nm is calculated. It is established that the titanium nitride-coated structure exhibits the maximum integral absorption.

Аннотация: The two primary physical methods for identifying lithium titanate, a negative electrode material used commercially, are X-Ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. Although there are many publications on this topic, they are focused mainly on chemistry, so there are still some points that require clarification from a physical and methodological point of view. Difference of experimentally observed and theoretically predicted Raman spectra was explained through a combination of experiments and computations. The work comprises experiments and computations to explain why there are different numbers of predicted and observed Raman-active bands. Our low-temperature study and the analysis of thermal shifts during heating led us to conclude that the approach with surplus bands is advantageous and we recommend using major F2g band shifts to estimate the sample heating.

Аннотация: Light trapping is a crucial prominence to improve the efficiency in thin film solar cells. However, last few years, plasmonic based thin film solar cells shows potential structure to improve efficiency in photovoltaics. In order to achieve the high efficiency in plasmonic based thin film solar cells, traditionally noble metals like Silver (Ag) and Gold (Au) are extensively used due to their ability to localize the light in nanoscale structures. In this paper, we numerically demonstrated the absorption enhancement due to the incorporation of novel plasmonic TiN nanoparticles on thin film Silicon Solar cells. Absorption enhancement significantly affected by TiN plasmonic nanoparticles on thin film silicon was studied using Finite-Difference-Time-Domain Method (FDTD). The optimal absorption enhancement 1.2 was achieved for TiN nanoparticles with the diameter of 100 nm. The results show that the plasmonic effect significantly dominant to achieve maximum absorption enhancement g(λ) at longer wavelengths (red and near infrared) and as comparable with Au nanoparticle on thin film Silicon. The absorption enhancement can be tuned to the desired position of solar spectrum by adjusting the size of TiN nanoparticles. Effect of nanoparticle diameters on the absorption enhancement was also thoroughly analyzed. The numerically simulated results show that TiN can play the similar role as gold nanoparticles on thin film silicon solar cells. Furthermore, TiN plasmonic material is cheap, abundant and more Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) compatible material than traditional plasmonic metals like Ag and Au, which can be easy integration with other optoelectronic devices.

Аннотация: We propose to utilize titanium nitride (TiN) as an alternative material for linear periodic chains (LPCs) of nanoparticles (NPs) which support surface plasmon polariton (SPP) propagation. Dispersion and transmission properties of LPCs have been examined within the framework of the dipole approximation for NPs with various shapes: spheres, prolate and oblate spheroids. It is shown that LPCs of TiN NPs support high-Q eigenmodes for an SPP attenuation that is comparable with LPCs from conventional plasmonic materials such as Au or Ag, with the advantage that the refractory properties and cheap fabrication of TiN nanostructures are more preferable in practical implementations compared to Au and Ag. We show that the SPP decay in TiN LPCs remains almost the same even at extremely high temperatures which is impossible to reach with conventional plasmonic materials. Finally, we show that the bandwidth of TiN LPCs from non-spherical particles can be tuned from the visible to the telecommunication wavelength range by switching the SPP polarization, which is an attractive feature for integrating these structures into modern photonic devices.
