Аннотация: Random domain structures in orthorhombic strontium tetraborate (α-SBO) are capable in enhancing nonlinear optical conversion efficiency for large variety of processes throughout all transparency window of this material, down to 121 nm. Properties of the material, origin of domains, frequency doubling and autocorrelation measurements, conversion of supercontinuum to UV and continuously tunable VUV generation are described. Prospects of biphoton field generation in α-SBO are discussed. © 2015 OSA.

Аннотация: We describe how to control the temporal shape of adiabaton using peculiarities of propagation dynamics under coherent population trapping. Temporal compression is demonstrated as a special case of pulse shaping. The general case of unequal oscillator strengths of two optical transitions in an atom is considered.

Аннотация: Up-conversion (UC) phosphors of (Ca1-xSrx)In2O4 : Yb3+/Ho3+ (x = 0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 0.9, 1.0) were prepared. Based on the crystal structure evolution of these series solid solution samples, which were characterized by Rietveld refinement, the variation of UC luminescent properties was discussed in detail. Sr and Ca occupied one position and Yb/Ho dissolved in the In ion site in the (Ca1-xSrx)In2O4 lattice. With increasing Sr substituting Ca atoms, the cell parameters and cell volumes of these samples increased linearly, and distortions of (Ca/Sr)O-8 polyhedron were formed. The distortions on crystal structures showed a negative relation with UC luminescent intensities in these series phosphors.

Аннотация: Ferrospheres with the Fe2O3 content in the range from 76 to 97 wt% were applied as catalysts for the oxidative coupling of methane (OCM). To identify their phase composition and distribution of iron sites, the ferrospheres were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and Mossbauer spectroscopy before and after the OCM reaction. Magnetite-based ferrite spinel, hematite and aluminosilicate glasses were established to be the main phases. The ferrospinel of all ferrospheres partially oxidized to hematite after the OCM reaction. It was established that the yield of C-2-hydrocarbons sharply increased at the ferrospheres with Fe2O3 content higher than 89 wt% The spinel phase of these ferrospheres includes Fevv3+(B) sites with a Ca2+ tetrahedral cation and an octahedral cation vacancy among the nearest neighbors. A linear correlation between the yield of C-2-hydrocarbons (ethane and ethylene) and the content of such sites was established, thus indicating that their electrophilic oxygen species participate in selective CH4 conversion to C2H6. Аннотация: In this paper, the influence of alternating current (ac) electrodeposition frequency and waveform is reported on chemical composition, microstructure and consequently magnetic properties of Co-Ni binary alloy nanowire arrays embedded in an alumina template. For sinusoidal and square electrodeposition waveforms the easy axis of magnetization rotates from being parallel to perpendicular orientation to nanowire long axis as the deposition frequency increases from 200 to 800 Hz. The reason for the drastic change of magnetic anisotropy in nanowires is attributed to the increase of cobalt content and the crystal structure phase transformation from fcc-hcp mixture at high Ni content to imp at high Co content. We explain the conversion of magnetic behavior of nanowire arrays in terms of a competition between the shape and magnetocrystalline anisotropies. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Аннотация: Er3+ / Yb3+ doped BaIn2O4 up-conversion (UC) phosphors are synthesized and their UC luminescent properties are characterized. BaIn2O4 has P21/c space group but Rietveld refinement suggests it has twice smaller cell parameter (a = 10.3975 Å, b = 5.8295 Å, c = 14.4457 Å) and volume than previous reported structure. Refinement also reveals Er3+/Yb3+ replaces In3+ ions in lattice because of the existence of InO6 octahedra. In these BaIn2O4 phosphors, co-doping with Yb3+ ions changes the predominant UC emission from green ( 2H11/2, 4S3/2 → 4I15/2 of Er3+) to red (about 665 nm, 4F9/2 → 4I15/2 of Er3+). By controlling of Er3+/Yb3+ concentrations, the BaIn2O4 phosphors have the potential of generating various UC spectra and color tunability. The pumping powers study shows two-photon process in these phosphors.

Аннотация: Using DFT GGA calculations, electronic structure and magnetic properties of wide family of transition metal trihalides (TMHal3) (Zr, Ti and Nb iodides, Mo, Ru, Ti and Zr bromides and Ti or Zr chlorides) are investigated. These structures consist of transition metal atoms chains surrounded by halides atoms. Chains are connected to each other by weak interactions. All TMHal3 compounds were found to be conductive along chain axis except of MoBr3 which is indirect gap semiconductor. It was shown that NbI3 and MoBr3 have large magnetic moments on metal atoms (1.17 and 1.81 µB, respectively) but other TMHal3 materials have small or zero magnetic moments. For all structures ferromagnetic and anti-ferromagnetic phases have almost the same energies. The causes of these properties are debated.
