Аннотация: The results of an investigation on the generation of higher harmonics under the passing of a low frequency current in HTSC ceramics by microwave spectroscopy methods are presented. It is found that the generation of only even harmonics occurs. The dependence of the signal upon the harmonic number and. as an example for the second harmonic, the temperature dependences of the microwave response parameters are discussed.

Аннотация: Temperature measurements of current-voltage characteristics (CVC) of the (Y, Lu)1Ba2Cu3O7-delta high-temperature superconductor have been performed. Analysis of the data shows that CVC of HTSC is mainly formed by two mechanisms: the creep of the Abrikosov vortices inside the crystallites and the Andreev reflection of the carriers within the metal character boundary between the crystallites.

Аннотация: We consider a typical semiconductor resonant tunnelling GaAs/AlGaAs/GaAs nanostructure which forms a double-barrier potential with quasienergy levels corresponding to transition frequencies in the infrared and microwave regions. Two types of dynamical perturbation of the heterostructure in the form V-1(x, t) = V(1)x cos Omega t and V-2(t) = V-2 cos Omega t are considered. We analyse numerically a reconstruction of the electron transmission through the heterostructure and the current-voltage characteristics (IVC) under the influence of these dynamical perturbations. Both weak and strong perturbations are considered. We investigate the dependences of the transmission on the electron energy and the frequency of the external field with the main accent on the case where a frequency of the perturbation is tuned to a transition between quasienergies of the double-barrier structure. it is found that these resonant phenomena give rise to new peaks and dips in the IVC. In particular, it is shown that the dipole type of perturbation V-1(x, t) gives rise to a Rabi splitting of the transmission peaks and under certain conditions to a Rabi splining of the IVC peaks and dips. We demonstrate that dynamical perturbation may induce a direct current opposite to the direction of the applied voltage, and that this phenomenon takes the form of a sharp dip which has a resonant origin. It is observed that the dipole type of perturbation V-1(x, t) of laser radiation is more effective for tuning the IVC than the first perturbation V-2(t). Also absorption and emission of energy by an electron transmitted through the DBRTS are considered.

Аннотация: A coil made of a continuous rectangular conductor in the form of a single-layer cylindrical helix is analyzed to identify methods of improving the mechanical strength and energy efficiency of resistive systems for producing high magnetic fields with quasi-force-free windings. A characteristic feature of this helix is that the interturn insulation is replaced by a conductor of higher resistivity. An analysis is made of the direction of the resultant current density vector as a function of the ratio of the resistivities of the conductors and the winding angle. It is shown that in principle, the direction of this vector may be arbitrarily defined, by suitably selecting the resistivities of the conductors. In this case, the winding angle may be arbitrarily small. It is demonstrated that these helices will have a high mechanical strength, and when used in quasi-force-free windings they can appreciably reduce the axial current density, which helps to minimize the mechanical stresses and thereby improve the energy efficiency. The temperature dependences of the electrical resistivities and critical current densities of the composites are measured. Аннотация: We study a resistively shunted semiconductor superlattice subject to a high-frequency electric field. Using a balance equation approach that incorporates the influence of the electric circuit, we determine numerically a range of amplitude and frequency of the ac field for which a de bias and current are generated spontaneously and show that this region is likely accessible to current experiments. Our simulations reveal that the Bloch frequency corresponding to the spontaneous de bias is approximately an integer multiple of the ac field frequency.

Аннотация: We describe an effect of the generation of direct current which may arise in semiconductors or semiconductor microstructures due to a mixing of coherent electromagnetic radiations of commensurate frequencies. The effect is, in essence, due to a nonparabolicity of the electron energy bands and is stronger in systems where this nonparabolicity is greater. We have made exact calculations in the framework of the Kane model, applicable to narrow-gap semiconductors and the tight-binding model which we employ for a description of a semiconductor superlattice.

Аннотация: An approach which allows to include the corrections from non-orthogonality of electron states in contacts and quantum dots is developed. Comparison of the energy levels and charge distributions of electrons in 1D quantum dot (QD) in equilibrium, obtained within orthogonal (OR) and non-orthogonal representations (NOR), with the exact ones shows that the NOR provides a considerable improvement, for levels below the top of barrier. The approach is extended to non-equilibrium states. A derivation of the tunneling current through a single potential barrier is performed using equations of motion for correlation functions. A formula for transient current derived by means of the diagram technique for Hubbard operators is given for the problem of QD with strongly correlated electrons interacting with electrons in contacts. The non-orthogonality renormalizes the tunneling matrix elements and spectral weights of Green functions. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Аннотация: An experimental study of the effect of low-frequency transport current on the microwave conductivity of single-crystal La0.7Pb0.3MnO3 is reported. In the absence of an external magnetic field, the microwave conductivity response to a current follows a relaxation behavior. In a nonzero external magnetic field, the response spectrum exhibits a peak of resonant amplitude enhancement. The resonant response has a nonlinear nature. The temperature and field dependences of the main parameters of the microwave response correlate directly with the behavior of the magnetoresistance. The results obtained are analyzed within the oscillator approximation. Electronic phase separation is proposed as a possible mechanism for the current action. (C) 1999 American Institute of Physics. Аннотация: The results of experiment on the influence of a direct current and a low-frequency alternating current, as well as a magnetic field, on the microwave-range conductivity sigma(MW) of Ln(0.7)Pb(0.3)MnO(3) single crystals with giant magnetoresistance are presented. The greatest sensitivity of the samples toward the effects of a current is observed in the temperature range corresponding to the dc magnetoresistance maximum. The response signal of a sample in the microwave range to the effects of an alternating current of a low frequency f(0) has a nonlinear character. As f(0) is varied in a magnetic field, the amplitude of the response signal varies with the appearance of resonance peaks. The results obtained are interpreted within an approach based on the coexistence of two phases having different conductivities in the doped manganite crystals. This two-phase interpretation is supported by data from magnetic-resonance investigations, which demonstrate the existence of two magnetic phases over a broad temperature range in Ln(0.7)Pb(0.3)MnO(3) single crystals. Аннотация: Measurements of current-voltage characteristics (CVC) of Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2,Cu3O7 + BaPbO3 and Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2Cu3O7 +BaPb0.9Sn0.1O3 composites modelling network of superconducting-normal metal-superconducting (S-N-S) junctions in effectively 'clean' and 'dirty' limits, respectively, have been performed. Essential difference of CVCs for these composites is observed in spite of the identical preparation technique and experimental conditions. It is shown that the theory for S-N-S junctions [R. Kummel, U. Gunsenheimer, R. Nicolsky, Phys. Rev. B, 42 (1990) 3932] well describes the experimental CVCs of the composites in both cases. (C) 1999 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
