Аннотация: The results of a study of the transport and magnetic properties of some sulfides of 3d elements are reported. The concentration transitions with a change of conductivity type and a change of magnetic order are considered, and the features of the colossal magnetoresistance in FexMn1-xS and CuVxCr1-xS2 solid solutions are discussed.

Аннотация: We study different resonances (first of all of the Fano type) in the interference device formed by the Aharonov–Bohm ring with superconducting (SC) wire in the topologically nontrivial state playing a role of a bridge between top and bottom arms. We analyze Majorana modes on the ends of the SC wire and show that the collapse of the additional Fano resonance, that is initially induced by transport scheme asymmetry, is connected with the increase of the length of the bridge when the binding energy of the Majorana end modes tends to zero. In local transport regime, the Fano resonances are stable against the change of the transport symmetry. The reasons of both collapse and sustainability are analyzed using a spinless toy model including the Kitaev chain.

Аннотация: A two-level system of data transmission in the optical range is considered between a low-orbit spacecraft located in a sun-synchronous orbit and a repeater satellite located in a geostationary orbit. This topic is rather relevant due to the fact that the rapid development of remote sensing satellites resulted in the increase of the amount of transmitted infor- mation, which in consequence introduced new requirements for communication systems. The increase of data transmission rate and severization of requirements for communication systems contributed to the development of one of the most promising areas of space communications, based on the information transmission via a laser channel, due to a high energy concentration and a much higher carrier frequency. The prospects for the application of optical communication systems are designated by lower power consumption, dimensional specifications and the mass of the transceiver equipment of the optical range (compared to radiofrequency range systems). The article describes the solution of application of optical communication link between a low-orbit spacecraft and a repeater satellite. The main factors that contribute to the attenuation in the process of signal propagation along the route are presented and analyzed. A model of a communication channel between a low-orbit spacecraft and a repeater satellite is provided for a visual image. Two different approaches of mutual guidance and tracking of laser terminals are described for using beacons and without ones. EDRS foreign system is considered as an analogue. The estimation of the main parameters of the communication link is given. The communication system considered in the article will allow for greater carrier capacity of the data transmission in the optical range between the low-orbit spacecraft and repeater satellite. The application of this system will allow solving problems, including in the interests of any departments and structures of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, for which the rate of obtaining information is one of the basic requirements for a satellite communication system. The tasks of precise targeting of receiving and transmitting devices arising as a result of narrow beam patterns can be solved with current technical means.
Рассмотрена двухуровневая система передачи данных оптического диапазона между низкоорбитальным космическим аппаратом (НКА), находящимся на солнечно-синхронной орбите, и спутником-ретранслятором (СР), находящимся на геостационарной орбите. Данная тема является весьма актуальной в связи с тем, что стремительное развитие спутников дистанционного зондирования земли привело к повышению объемов передаваемой информации, что в следствии привело к новым требованиям к системам связи. Увеличение скорости передачи данных, повышение требований к системам связи способствовало развитию одного из перспективных направлений космической связи, основанного на передаче информации по лазерному каналу благодаря высокой концентрации энергии и гораздо более высокой частоте несущей. Меньшее энергопотребление, габаритные размеры и масса приемопередающей аппаратуры оптического диапазона (по сравнению с системами радиодиапазона) определяют перспективы применения оптических систем связи. В статье описано решение использования между НКА и СР оптической линии связи. Приведены и проанализированы основные факторы, вносящие ослабление в процессе распространения сигнала на трассе. Приведена модель для наглядного отображения канала связи между НКА и СР. Описаны два разных подхода взаимного наведения и сопровождения лазерных терминалов с использованием маяков и без маяков. В качестве близкого аналога рассмотрена зарубежная система EDRS. Приведена оценка основных параметров линии связи. Рассмотренная в статье система связи сможет обеспечить большую пропускную способность при передаче данных в оптическом диапазоне между НКА и СР. Применение данной системы позволит решать задачи, в том числе в интересах любых ведомств и структур МО РФ, для которых скорость получения информации является одним из основных требований, предъявляемых к системе спутниковой связи. Задачи точного наведения приемных и передающих устройств, возникающие как следствие узких диаграмм направленности, можно решить современными техническими средствами.

Аннотация: The crystallographic and group theoretical analysis of the structural phase transitions in perovskite and perovskite-like crystals is reviewed. We include ABX(3) perovskites and their relative crystals of ReO3 type (G(0) = O-h(1)), elpasolites, cryolites and their relatives (G(0) = O-h(5)) layered crystals of TIAIF(4) series (G(0) = D-4h(1)), Aurivillius and Ruddlesden-Popper series (G(0) = D-4h(17)). The structures in their initial phase G(0) often contain n layers (n = 1, 2,3) of vertex linked octahedra. The distorted phases produced by one kind of tilt and by superposition of tilts in the slabs are enumerated. Most of the tilts correspond to symmetry changes, which can be associated to definite librational lattice modes irreducible representations of the G(0) group. The softening of modes associated to the PT has been found experimentally in many perovskites, elpasolites and layered crystals with n = 1. In contrast, no such soft modes have been found yet for even-layered (n = 2) crystals. Examples of successive phase transitions due to the superposition of tilts in these types of crystals have been collected.

Аннотация: This update includes the literature related to the inert anodes which were published in the past decade. The metallic anodes are widely regarded as promising candidates to replace the carbon anodes due to its attractive properties like good electrical conductivity, easy to manufacture and high resistance to high thermal shocks. The metals have been tested in pure state and alloy (binary, ternary) form. The oxide scale formed on the anode surface acts as a barrier between the electrolyte and the anode, which protects the anode from being dissolved. The layer of molten fluorides is formed between the scale and the metal anode after a certain time of polarization, and the oxide scale acts as a bipolar electrode. Metal like Cu is reduced at the internal side of the scale. This paper elaborates the effects of various parameters on the performance of the anode. Cu-based alloys (Cu – Ni – Fe and Cu – Al) have shown promising results and could perform well in low-temperature electrolytes. It has been well established that the Cu content in Cu – Ni – Fe and Cu – Al alloys plays a major role in the metal dissolution as the CuO/Cu2O scales formed on the outer layer act as a sacrificial one. The corrosion rate of an anode can be reduced by decreasing the operating temperature, which is possible by using the KF – AlF3 melts. The use of suspensions can increase the purity of the produced metal by stop-ping the anode products to come in contact with cathode metal. Many industries including RUSAL and ELYSIS are still conducting a considerable amount of research to develop an inert anode and are expecting to have a carbon-free cell in the nearest future.

Аннотация: Experimental AFMR studies of crystalline PrFe3(BO3)4 over a wide frequency range of 10–143 GHz at a temperature of 4.2 K have been carried out. The high-frequency properties of praseodymium ferroborate are well described in terms of a model of a two-sublattice antiferromagnet with an “easy axis” anisotropy. An energy gap of 134.3 ± 0.5 GHz is determined and the magnitude of the effective magnetic anisotropy field is estimated to be 1.9 ± 0.1 kOe. An analysis indicates that the spin-orientational phase transition in this compound is a first order transition.

Аннотация: The effect of replacing Nd3+ ions with Dy3+ ions on the resonance properties of Nd0.75Dy0.25Fe3(BO3)(4) is studied. The antiferromagnetic resonance (AFMR) method is used to detect an easy axis-easy plane magnetic spin-reorientation phase transition owing to competing exchange interactions of Nd-Fe and Dy-Fe, and the frequency-field dependence of the AFMR spectrum before and after the phase transition is studied. At 4.2 K, the detected resonance spectra in the H parallel to c direction are AFMR modes of iron, and their frequency-field dependences correspond to easy-axis (H 15 kOe) and easy-plane (H 16 kOe) magnetic structures with magnon excitation energy gaps of 77.2 and 100.3 GHz, respectively. The effective magnetic anisotropies responsible for these gaps are 0.7 and 1.2 kOe, respectively. Substitution by Dy3+ ions in crystalline Nd0.75Dy0.25Fe3(BO3)(4) in the paramagnetic region produces an additional static internal field owing to polarization, which leads to a shift in the resonance field of the EPR absorption line and a change in the g-factor of the Fe3+ ions. Аннотация: The two-dimensional (2D) Heisenberg model with anisotropic exchange (Delta = 1 - J(x)/J(z)) and with negative next nearest neighbor exchange (J(2)) with S = 1/2 is investigated by using the quantum-mechanical Monte-Carlo method. The energy, magnetic moment at a site, heat capacity, and spin-spin correlation functions are calculated. The stability regions for Neel ordering of spins as well as the strip-phase and gapless quantum spin liquid are determined in the interval Delta/2 less than or equal to J(2)/ J(1)less than or equal to 1/(2 Delta). Аннотация: The thermodynamic quantities, two- and four-spin correlation functions as well as the correlation radius for weakly coupled antiferromagnetic spin chains with S = 1/2 are calculated using the mean-field approximation for the interchain coupling (J(2)) for longitudinal and transverse spin components by quantum Monte Carlo method. Results for the staggered magnetization and Neel temperature are in agreement with general scaling arguments. The value of triplet DeltaS(z) =1 gp in the spectrum of excitations is estimated. The transverse staggered field was found to induce an additional maximum in the correlation radius of the four spin correlation function around T/J(1) approximate to [0.05 divided by 0.075), J(2)/J(1) 0.03.

Аннотация: The rhodium complexes [RhCl3(NH3)3], (I), and [Rh(NO3)3(NH3)3], (II), are built from octa­hedral RhX3(NH3)3 units; in (I) they are isolated units, while in (II) the units are stacked in columns with partially filled sites for the Rh atoms. The octa­hedra of monoclinic crystals of (I) are linked by N-H...Cl hydrogen bonds and the Rh3+ ions are located on the mirror planes. In the trigonal crystals of (II), the discontinuous `columns` along the threefold axis are linked by N-H...O hydrogen bonds. The structure of (I) has been solved using laboratory powder diffraction data, the structure of (II) has been solved by single-crystal methods using data from a merohedrally twinned sample. Both compounds possess low solubility in water.

Аннотация: The mechanisms of inelastic scattering of low-energy protons with a kinetic energy of 2-7 eV by C6H6, C6F12, C-60, and C60F48 molecules are studied using the methods of quantum chemistry and nonempirical molecular dynamics. It is shown that, for the C6H6 + proton and C-60 + proton systems, starting from a distance of 6 angstrom from the carbon skeleton, the electronic charge transfer from the aromatic molecule to H+ occurs with a probability close to unity and transforms the H+ ion into a hydrogen atom and the neutral C6H6 and C-60 molecules into cation radicals. The mechanism of interaction of low-energy protons with C6F12 and C60F48 molecules has a substantially different character and can be considered qualitatively as the interaction between a neutral molecule and a point charge. The Coulomb perturbation of the system arising from the interaction of the noncompensated proton charge with the Mulliken charges of fluorine atoms results in an inversion of the energies of the electronic states localized, on the one hand, on the positively charged hydrogen ion and, on the other hand, on the C6F12 and C60F48 molecules. As a result, the neutral molecule + proton state becomes the ground state. In turn, this inversion makes the electronic charge transfer energetically unfavorable. Quantum-chemical and molecular-dynamics calculations on different levels of theory showed that, for fluorine derivatives of some aromatic structures (C6F12, C60F48), the barriers to proton penetration through carbon hexagons are two to four times lower than for the corresponding parent systems (C6H6, C-60). This effect is explained by the absence of active pi-electrons in the case of fluorinated molecules.

Аннотация: The material CuB2O4 presents a variety of phases in the B - T phase diagram, caused by the frustration and the Dzialoshinskii - Moriya interaction. In order to investigate the nature of the phase transitions, a B-11- NMR experiment on CuB2O4 has been performed under an applied magnetic field along the a- axis down to 0.4 K. A new incommensurate - incommensurate phase transition has been found at 0.8 K under a field of 0.5 T. Further, another phase transition has been observed at 4.7 K under a field of about 2 T, which is consistent with the transition reported by the neutron diffraction experiment.

Аннотация: The existence of space inhomogeneous superconductor insulator state (SISIS) found out earlier in polycrystalline samples of high-Tc system Ba0.6K0.4BiO3 (Tc?30 K) is confirmed on Ba0.6K0.4BiO3 single crystal. At T* (T*<Tc, T*?17 K) the transition from the homogeneous superconducting state into the SISIS occurs. SISIS is characterized by the appearance of two gapes on the Fermi surface: semi- and superconducting, that are modulated in space in antiphase, the electric transport between superconducting regions being carried out due to Josephson tunneling. Thus the whole sample becomes a multiple Josephson system. Nonlinear I-V curves, depended on temperature and magnetic field, that are typical to a Josephson system, are observed on Ba0.6K0.4BiO3 single crystal at temperatures below T*. Besides, a step like peculiarity at the values of voltage of the order of one and two superconducting gaps shows up. These peculiarities are suppressed by magnetic field much earlier then critical current. Perhaps the last phenomenon is the consequence of "coherent" state of several successive Josephson junctions, appeared in the exfoliation state. В© Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Аннотация: We report on a new effect caused by the electron-phonon coupling in a stoichiometric rare-earth antiferromagnetic crystal subjected to an external magnetic field, namely, the appearance of a nonzero gap in the spectrum of electronic excitations in an arbitrarily small field. The effect was registered in the low-temperature far-infrared (terahertz) reflection spectra of an easy-axis antiferromagnet PrFe3(BO3)4 in magnetic fields Bext-c. Both paramagnetic and magnetically ordered phases (including a spin-flop one) were studied in magnetic fields up to 30 T, and two bifurcation points were observed. We show that the field behavior of the coupled modes can be successfully explained and modeled on the basis of the equation derived in the framework of the theory of coupled electron-phonon modes, with the same field-independent electron-phonon interaction constant |W|=14.8 cm-1. © 2017 American Physical Society.

Аннотация: We consider bound states in the continuum (BICs) in low-contrast dielectric gratings. It is demonstrated that the BICs originate from the reduced guided modes on the effective dielectric slab with the permittivity equal to the average permittivity of the dielectric grating. In the case of isolated resonances, the positions of BICs can be found from two-wave dispersion relationships for guided leaky modes. In the case of the degeneracy between the two families of leaky modes, the system exhibits an avoided crossing of resonances. In the spectral vicinity of the avoided crossing the transmittance as well as the emergence of BICs is described in the framework of the generic formalism by Volya and Zelevinsky [Phys. Rev. C 67, 054322 ( 2003)] with a single fitting parameter.

Аннотация: The results of the investigation into the effect of low-temperature annealing of a powder of nanoparticles of bacterial ferrihydrite on its magnetic properties have been presented. It has been found that an increase in the time (up to 240 h) and temperature (in the range from 150 to 200°C) of annealing leads to a monotonic increase in the superparamagnetic blocking temperature, the coercive force, and the threshold field of the opening of the magnetic hysteresis loop (at liquid-helium temperatures), as well as to an increase in the magnetic resonance line width at low temperatures and in the magnetic susceptibility at room temperature. At the same time, according to the results of the analysis of the Mossbauer spectra, the annealing of ferrihydrite does not lead to the formation of new iron oxide phases. Most of these features are well consistent with the fact that the low-temperature annealing of ferrihydrite causes an increase in the size of nanoparticles, which is confirmed by the results of transmission electron microscopy studies. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.
