Аннотация: The magnetic, electric, magnetoresistive, and structural properties are investigated in the sulfide solid solutions FexMn1-xS, which are based on the antiferromagnetic semiconductor alpha-MnS (the fcc NaCl lattice). Colossal negative magnetoresistance (delta(H)similar to-83% at 160 K for x similar to 0.29), comparable to that observed in La-Ca-Mn-O polycrystals and films (delta(H)similar to-90% at 100 K and 40 kOe), is observed in compounds with intermediate concentrations 0.26 x 0.4, corresponding to the region of incipient ferromagnetism. Аннотация: Two phases, paramagnetic and ferromagnetic, were shown by the magnetic resonance method to coexist below the temperature T-C in La0.7Pb0.3MnO3 single crystals exhibiting colossal magnetoresistance. The magnetic resonance spectra were studied in the frequency range 10-78 GHz. The specific features in the behavior of the spectral parameters were observed to be the strongest at the temperatures corresponding to the maximum magnetoresistance in the crystals. The concentration ratios of the paramagnetic and ferromagnetic phases in the samples were found to be sensitive to variations in temperature and external magnetic field. This behavior suggests realization of the electronic phase separation mechanism in the system under study. (C) 2002 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".

Аннотация: The magnetic resonance measurements show that the mixed two-phase state takes place in the Eu0.7Pb0.3MnO3 single crystal. The coexistence of the magnetic phases is observed in vicinity of the magnetic phase transition, where the sample exhibits the effect of the CMR. The frequency-field dependencies of the spectra allow to conclude that these phases are paramagnetic and ferromagnetic ones. Moreover, the study of the frequency dependencies shows the sensitivity of the mixed-phase state to the external magnetic field. This suggests that the scenario of the phase separation is realized in this case and the mixed two-phase state is not related to simple chemical inhomogeneity. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Аннотация: It is shown that non-Heisenberg exchange interaction should be taken into account to reproduce the magnetic phase diagram of La(1-x)A(x)MnO(3) (A = Ca, Sr) using only effective exchange parameters and spins. The formation of the four-spin exchange arises from carrier hopping and coincides with the critical concentration metal-dielectric transition. The two- and four-spin exchange parameters are determined by Monte Carlo simulations.

Аннотация: The temperature dependence of resistivity, magnetization, and electron-spin resonance of the α-MnS single crystal were measured in temperature range of 5 K < T< 550 K. Magnetization hysteresis in an applied magnetic field up to 0.7 T at T=5, 77, and 300 K, irreversible temperature behavior of magnetization, and resistivity were found. The obtained data were explained in terms of a degenerate tight binding model using random phase. approximation. The contribution of holes in t(2g) and e(g) bands of manganese ions to the conductivity, optical absorbtion spectra, and charge instability in α-MnS were studied. Charge susceptibility maxima resulted from the competition of the on-site Coulomb interaction between the holes in different orbitals and small hybridization of subbands were calculated at T = 160, 250, and 475 K.

Аннотация: Conventional magnetic and transport measurements of the melt-grown mixed-valence manganite (La0.4Eu0.6)(0.7)Pb0.3MnO3 have been supplemented by a magnetic resonance study. The experimental data support the model of two magnetic phases coexisting in the crystal volume. At a temperature T-*, which is well above Curie temperature T-C, ferromagnetic clusters appear in the sample. These ferromagnetic regions possess a higher conductivity in comparison with the paramagnetic background (majority phase). On cooling through T-C, the magnetization of the spatially confined ferromagnetic clusters of the minority phase freezes in random directions with respect to the magnetization of the ferromagnetic majority phase due to the difference of the exchange interactions at the phase boundaries from the intraphase interactions in sign and value. Such a mixed state is responsible for the observed magnetic glassylike behavior of the system that is characteristic of inhomogeneous magnets. The fluctuations of the magnetic coupling value and sign in the sample volume are related to strong competition between the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic exchange interactions, which, in turn, results from the quenched disorder caused by the random chemical replacement of the perovskite A site of the manganite. A phase-separation state comprised of two different ferromagnetic phases has been used to account for the colossal magnetoresistance phenomenon and the magnetic-field-driven nonlinear conduction found in the crystal.

Аннотация: The temperature dependence of resistivity and the bulk modulus are calculated on the Kondo lattice, with ring exchange between localized spins, using the spin-polaron and adiabatic approximation. Peak and zero values of the bulk modulus as functions of temperature and concentration are determined below the temperature of the transition to the paramagnetic state. The effects of the nearest order between transverse spin components and a value of the ring exchange between localized spins on magnetoresistivity are estimated.

Аннотация: The electron structure of undoped LaMnO3 and slightly doped La1-xSrxMnO3 manganites has been calculated within the framework of a generalized tight binding method with explicit allowance for strong intra-atomic electron correlations. According to the results of these calculations, the ground state in orbitally disordered undoped LaMnO3 ferromagnets would be metallic despite the Mott-Hubbard correlation gap in the spectrum of quasiparticles. Owing to the orbital ordering, the insulating state is stabilized in both antiferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases. In-gap states of a polaron nature with a spectral weight proportional to the dopant concentration have been found near the top of the valence band in La1-xSrxMnO3. As the doping level increases, a metal state appears in the ferromagnetic phase, which has a metallic character for one spin subband and an insulating character for the other subband (representing the so-called half-metallic state).

Аннотация: For the manganites RMnO(3) (R = La, Pr, Nd), a mechanism is proposed to explain the anomalous temperature dependences of the kinetic coefficients, resistivity, and thermoelectric power during the transition from the pseudocubic O to the orthorhombic O' crystal structure. The contributions of the bending and stretching modes of the octahedron to the formation of thermal-conductivity maxima and to the deviation from the linear dependence of ln(rho/T) on 1/T at low temperatures have been estimated. In nickelates, the metal-insulator transition is caused by lattice-polaron pinning by the stretching mode of the octahedron, and the low-temperature anomaly of the thermal conductivity is related to electron scattering by the bending mode of the octahedron.

Аннотация: The paper reports on the results of ab initio calculations of the static and dynamic properties of the LaMnO3 crystal with a perovskite structure in the cubic, rhombohedral, and orthorhombic phases. The calculations are performed within the ionic crystal model, which takes into account the deformability and polarizability of the ions. It is revealed that the spectrum of lattice vibrations in the cubic phase contains unstable vibrational modes, which occupy the phase space in the entire Brillouin zone. The eigenvectors of the softest mode at the boundary point R of the Brillouin zone are associated with the displacements of the oxygen ions and correspond to the "rotation" of the MnO6 octahedron. The condensation of one, two, and three components of this mode leads to the tetragonal, orthorhombic, and rhombohedral distortions of the structure. The structural phase transition is described in terms of the local mode approximation with the use of the double perovskite unit cell, in which the MnO6 octahedron is explicitly separated. The parameters of the model Hamiltonian are determined. The static properties are investigated by the Monte Carlo method. The calculated temperature of the phase transition from the cubic phase (9800 K) is considerably higher than the melting temperature of the crystal under investigation. The calculated frequencies of long-wavelength lattice vibrations in the experimentally observed orthorhombic and rhombohedral phases are in reasonable agreement with experimental data.

Некоммерческая организация, финансировалась главным образом из бюджета Европейского Союза. Являлась крупнейшим фондом, поддерживающим научное сотрудничество между учёными стран бывшего СССР и Европейского Союза с 1993 г. Программы INTAS охватывали широкий круг научно-исследовательских проблем. 22 сентября 2006 года было принято решение о прекращении осуществления программы на основании рекомендации Европейской Комиссии. С 1 апреля 2007 года прекратилось распределение новых грантов.

Аннотация: We demonstrate the microwave detection effect in a granular La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 sample. Dc voltage generated by the sample in response to microwave irradiation below the Curie temperature is found to be dependent on the applied magnetic field. The magnetic field dependence of the dc voltage has a broad peak resembling an absorption line. The detection effect depends substantially on the magnetic history of the sample; however, identical measurement conditions provide reproducibility of the experimental results. The detected dc voltage increases linearly with microwave power and strongly depends on a bias current through the sample. According to the results of systematic measurements, there exist two contributions to a value of the detected output signal. The first is magneto-independent; it can be explained in the framework of a mechanism used traditionally for description of the rectification effect in metal-insulator-metal junctions with nonmagnetic metals. The other is magneto-dependent; it originates from the interplay between the spin-dependent current through magnetic tunnel junctions and spin dynamics of the grains, which form these junctions in the sample.

Аннотация: The temperature dependences of the intense magnetocaloric effect T (AD)(T, H) and the heat capacity C (p) (T) of the (La(0.4)Eu(0.6))(0.7)Pb(0.3)MnO(3) manganite are directly measured using adiabatic calorimetry. The experimental dependences T (AD)(T) are in satisfactory agreement with those calculated from the data on the behavior of the magnetization. The factors responsible for the absence of an anomaly in the experimental temperature dependence of the heat capacity C (p) (T) in the range of the magnetic phase transition are discussed.

Аннотация: We propose that the apparatus of quantum mechanics of a free atom (in particular, the theory of nj symbols and Rakah-Wigner genealogic coefficients generalized to the case of point groups and widely used in crystal field theory) be used for constructing multielectron bases with allowance for covalence and spin-orbit interaction. This allows us to take into account the electron-electron interaction for 3d ions the most comprehensively. The basis constructed in this way can be used in the generalized strong coupling method for the multiband p-d model in describing the structure of the quasiparticle energy spectrum and physical properties of systems with strong electron correlations. The procedure of construction and computation is demonstrated for the (5)T(2g) term in the d(6) configuration of the transition metal atom in an octahedral field. The mechanism for the emergence of magnetic anisotropy in S ions (Fe(3+) and Mn(2+)) due to covalent mixing of d(6) (L) under bar configurations with a nonzero orbital angular momentum ((L) under bar is a hole in ligands) is demonstrated
