ANISOTROPY
Аннотация: We theoretically investigate the manifestations of the non-monotonic character and anisotropic peculiarities of the correlation functions of the inhomogeneities in the dispersion law and damping of plasma waves. The following specific effects have been found: a change in the character of the modifications, dispersion law and damping for small wavenumbers; dependence of the plasma frequency shift on the direction of the wave propagation. We substantiate possibilities for developing the correlation spectroscopy of plasma waves which would enable us not only to measure a correlation radius of the inhomogeneities (this has been suggested earlier), but also to obtain information in the form of the correlation function.

Аннотация: Ferromagnetic nanocrystalline Fe(C) films were prepared by pulsed plasma vaporization. A comprehensive investigation of the structure and magnetic properties made it possible to identify the type of short-range order here and to establish the sequence of structural states occurring in these films in the process of thermal relaxation: fcc-Fe(C)-- hcp-Fe(C)-- bcc-Fe+C. On the basis of an analysis of the metastable phase diagrams using Ostwald's rule, it is shown that the observed scenario of the structural transformations in these metastable nanocrystalline alloys Fe(C) is a natural phenomenon. Аннотация: We study the magnetic field and plasma parameters downstream of a fast shock as functions of normalized upstream parameters and the rate of pressure anisotropy (defined as the ratio of perpendicular to parallel pressure). We analyse two cases: with the shock (i) perpendicular and (ii) inclined with respect to the magnetic field. The relations on the fast, shock in a magnetized anisotropic plasma are solved taking into account the criteria for the mirror instability and firehose instability bounding the pressure anisotropy downstream of the shock. Our analysis shows that the parallel pressure and the parallel temperature as well as the tangential component of the velocity are the parameters that are most sensitive to the rate of pressure anisotropy. The variations of the other parameters, namely density, normal velocity, tangential component of the magnetic field, perpendicular pressure, and perpendicular temperature are much less pronounced, in particular when the perpendicular pressure exceeds the parallel pressure. The variations of all parameters increase substantially for a very low rate of anisotropy, which is bounded by the firehose instability in the case of inclined shocks. Using the criterion for mirror instability as a closure relation for the jump conditions at the fast shock, we obtain the plasma parameters and the magnetic field downstream of the shock as functions of the Alfven Mach number. For each Alfven Mach number, the criterion for mirror instability determines the minimum jumps in such parameters as density, tangential magnetic field component, parallel pressure, and temperature. and determines the maximum values of the velocity components and the perpendicular temperature. Ideal anisotropic magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) has wide applications for space plasma physics. Observations of the field and plasma behaviour in the solar wind as well as in the Earth's magnetosheath have highlighted the need for an MHD model where the plasma pressure is treated as a tensor.

Аннотация: The phase composition of nanocrystalline Co(C) films obtained by a new pulsed plasma vaporization technique was found by studying their atomic structure and magnetic properties. The films deposited at the substrate temperature T = 50 degreesC were of heterophase structure and consisted of a supersaturated solid Co(C) solution and the metastable Co3C carbide. The films obtained at T = 150 degreesC represented a mechanical mixture of the metastable Co3C and Co2C carbides. The metastable Co3C and Co2C carbides obtained in a nanocrystalline state were high-pressure phases (similar to 100 kbar). The thermal stability ranges of these metastable phases were determined. Аннотация: The reconnection rate is obtained for the simplest case of two-dimensional (2D) symmetric reconnection in an incompressible plasma. In the short note [Erkaev , Phys. Rev. Lett. 84, 1455 (2000)], the reconnection rate is found by matching the outer Petschek solution and the inner diffusion region solution. Here the details of the numerical simulation of the diffusion region are presented and the asymptotic procedure which is used for deriving the reconnection rate is described. The reconnection rate is obtained as a decreasing function of the diffusion region length. For a sufficiently large diffusion region scale, the reconnection rate becomes close to that obtained in the Sweet-Parker solution with the inverse square root dependence on the magnetic Reynolds number Re-m, determined for the global size of the current sheet. On the other hand, for a small diffusion region length scale, the reconnection rate turns out to be very similar to that obtained in the Petschek model with a logarithmic dependence on the magnetic Reynolds number Re-m. This means that the Petschek regime seems to be possible only in the case of a strongly localized conductivity corresponding to a small scale of the diffusion region. Аннотация: Explicit expressions are derived for the rectified radiative forces (RRFs) related to the action of a weak interfering optical field of an arbitrary three-dimensional (3D) configuration upon resonance particles featuring the J = 0 -- J = 1 quantum transition. It is shown that, in contrast to the case of a monochromatic field, there are simple 3D biharmonic field configurations for which the ratio of the vortex and potential RRF components can be controlled by adjusting frequencies and polarizations of the interfering light waves. This modification of the RRF structure gives rise to qualitatively different types of both vortex and potential light-induced particle motions that may lead to a 3D spatial localization (confinement) of these particles within the cells of an effective optical lattice with a period significantly greater than the light wavelength. In particular, the particles may perform a stable rotational motion along closed trajectories inside the elementary cells. (C) 2001 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".

Аннотация: The films of nanocrystalline Fe-Ni alloys obtained by various methods in the permalloy composition range (similar to 20 at. % Fe) were studied by the method of spin-wave resonance (SWR) spectroscopy. The effective SW exchange stiffness eta (eff) exhibits a characteristic dependence on the spin wavelength, which is indicative of the magnetization fluctuations in these films with a correlation radius of 12-20 nm. This is indirect evidence of the microphase separation in these nanocrystalline alloys and provides an estimate of the characteristic spatial size of an inhomogeneity in the atomic ratio X-Fe/X-Ni . Аннотация: A method of producing and confining ultracold electron-ion plasma with a strongly nonideal ion subsystem is considered. The method is based on the laser cooling of plasma ions by the radiation resonant with the ion quantum transition. A model is developed for the laser cooling of recombining plasma. Computer simulation based on this model showed that the ion nonideality parameter can be as large as similar to100. The data obtained demonstrate that the production of ultracold nonideal plasma is quite possible. (C) 2002 MAIK "Nauka / Interperiodica".

Аннотация: Thermodynamic estimates are presented for the formation of spheroidal and flat carbon clusters from reactant species of different charges. Charge is shown to strongly influence the geometry and stability of flat clusters. Changes in the charge of flat clusters can promote both their folding to spheroidal structures and their dissociation. It is concluded that the fluctuations of electron concentration in carbon plasmas can result in the accumulation of fullerene clusters and the dissociation of flat clusters. Аннотация: The influence of the carbon cluster charge on their coagulation kinetics has been studied. The equations of kinetics have been solved and it is established that allowance for the cluster charging leads to an increase in the rate of fullerene formation under otherwise equal conditions.
