Аннотация: A model of a superconducting fault current limiter on a polycrystalline high-temperature superconductor basis is checked in the dc short circuit regime. Protection of load takes place under the conditions described in this paper. The use of ceramic materials with superconducting-normal metal-superconducting Josephson junction network having an S-type current-voltage characteristic (CVC) is shown to be effective for fault current limiter devices.

Аннотация: The temperature evolution of the current-voltage characteristic (CVC) of a "break junction" with metal-type conductivity on the polycrystalline La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 high-temperature superconductor is investigated. The CVC exhibits gap peculiarities and hysteresis, which is observed in the region of negative differential resistance. The experimental results are described well in terms of the Kummel-Gunsenheimer-Nicolsky theory for an S-N-S junction (S is a superconductor, N is a normal metal) this theory takes into account multiple Andreev reflection of quasiparticles. It is shown that the shape of the CVC and the existence and the shape of hysteresis are determined by the ratio of "long" and "short" grain boundaries in the polycrystal under investigation. Аннотация: The temperature evolution of current-voltage characteristics (CVCs) of break junctions made from polycrystalline Y0.75Lu0.25Ba2Cu3O7 and La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 is investigated. The experimental CVCs have hysteretic features that reflect a part of a curve with negative differential resistance. The temperature evolution of the CVCs is discussed within the framework of the Kummel-Gunsenheimer-Nicolsky theory for superconductor/normal-metal/superconductor junctions considering multiple Andreev reflections. It is shown that the shape of the CVCs of break junctions is determined by the ratio of the number of "short" and "long" intergrain normal regions in the polycrystalline HTSC under investigation. Аннотация: Measurements of current-voltage characteristics (CVC) of Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2,Cu3O7 + BaPbO3 and Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2Cu3O7 +BaPb0.9Sn0.1O3 composites modelling network of superconducting-normal metal-superconducting (S-N-S) junctions in effectively 'clean' and 'dirty' limits, respectively, have been performed. Essential difference of CVCs for these composites is observed in spite of the identical preparation technique and experimental conditions. It is shown that the theory for S-N-S junctions [R. Kummel, U. Gunsenheimer, R. Nicolsky, Phys. Rev. B, 42 (1990) 3932] well describes the experimental CVCs of the composites in both cases. (C) 1999 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. Аннотация: The existence of space inhomogeneous superconductor insulator state (SISIS) found out earlier in polycrystalline samples of high-Tc system Ba0.6K0.4BiO3 (Tc?30 K) is confirmed on Ba0.6K0.4BiO3 single crystal. At T* (T*<Tc, T*?17 K) the transition from the homogeneous superconducting state into the SISIS occurs. SISIS is characterized by the appearance of two gapes on the Fermi surface: semi- and superconducting, that are modulated in space in antiphase, the electric transport between superconducting regions being carried out due to Josephson tunneling. Thus the whole sample becomes a multiple Josephson system. Nonlinear I-V curves, depended on temperature and magnetic field, that are typical to a Josephson system, are observed on Ba0.6K0.4BiO3 single crystal at temperatures below T*. Besides, a step like peculiarity at the values of voltage of the order of one and two superconducting gaps shows up. These peculiarities are suppressed by magnetic field much earlier then critical current. Perhaps the last phenomenon is the consequence of "coherent" state of several successive Josephson junctions, appeared in the exfoliation state. В© Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Аннотация: In order to clarify the mechanisms in charge of broadening of resistive transition R(T) in magnetic fields of bismuth-based polycrystalline high-T (C) superconductor (HTSC), a comparative study of Bi1.8Pb0.3Sr1.9Ca2Cu3O (x) (BSCCO) and YBa2Cu3O7-delta (YBCO) have been performed. Magnetoresistive effects and irreversibility line obtained from magnetic measurements have been studied. It was established that (1) for YBCO, the smooth part of R(T) dependence unambiguously corresponds to dissipation in the intergrain boundaries for arbitrary magnetic fields; (2) for polycrystalline BSCCO, the smooth part of R(T) dependences correspond to dissipation within intergrain boundary subsystem in the field range H 10(2) Oe only, while standard measurements of R(T) dependences in magnetic field range H 10(2) Oe reflect the dissipation processes occurring both in intergrain boundary and HTSC grain subsystems; (3) for the high-field range, the contribution from intergrain boundaries of BSCCO can be distinguished from magnetoresistance R(H) dependences obtained at high enough current density on textured samples. It is proposed that various magneto-resistive properties of these classical HTSC systems are due comparatively weak pinning in BSCCO.

Аннотация: The current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of break junctions of polycrystalline La1.85Sr0.15CuO4, Y0.75Lu0.25Ba2Cu3O7-delta, Bi1.8Pb0.3Sr1.9Ca2Cu3Ox and composite YBa2Cu3O7-delta + Ag are investigated. The experimental I-V curves exhibit the specific peculiarities of superconductor/normal-metal/superconductor junctions. The relation between an I-V characteristic of network of weak links and I-V dependencies of typical weak links is suggested to describe the experimental data. The I-V curves of typical weak links are calculated by the Kummel-Gunsenheimer-Nicolsky model considering the multiple Andreev reflections. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Аннотация: The current-voltage characteristics of the polycrystalline substituted lanthanum manganite (La0.5Eu0.5)(0.7)Pb0.3MnO3 have been measured at temperatures close to the metal-insulator transition temperature and at low temperatures. In both cases, the current-voltage characteristics exhibit nonlinear properties that are strongly dependent on the strength of an applied magnetic field. The mechanisms responsible for the nonlinear properties at these temperatures are found to be different: near the metal-insulator transition, the current-voltage characteristics are determined by the phase layering inside granules, while at low temperatures, they are determined by tunneling of carriers through insulating interlayers of the granules.

Аннотация: A simplified model for the current-voltage characteristics of weak links is suggested. It is based on an approach considering the multiple Andreev reflection in a metallic Josephson junction. The model allows one to calculate the current-voltage characteristics of superconductor-normal metal-superconductor junctions with different thicknesses of normal layer at different temperatures. A hysteretic peculiarity of the V(I) dependence is described as a result of the negative differential resistance. The current-voltage characteristics of tin microbridges and high- T-c composite YBCO + BaPbO3 were computed.

Аннотация: Semiconductor BiFe0.95Co0.05O3 thin-film compounds have been synthesized by a burst technique. The film surface morphology and the effect of electronic doping via substitution of cobalt ions for trivalent iron on the optical, magnetic, and kinetic properties have been investigated in the temperature range of 77-600 K in magnetic fields of up to 12 kOe. Two electron relaxation channels have been found in the impedance spectrum in the frequency range of 0.1-1000 kHz. The negative magnetoresistance in the anomalous magnetization region and the maximum magnetoimpedance in the vicinity of the surface phase transition have been established. Using the Hall measurements, carrier types dominating in the magnetoresistance and magnetoimpedance effects have been determined. The magnetization anomalies have been explained in the model of superparamagnetic clusters and the magnetoresistance, by the carrier scattering by spin fluctuations.

Аннотация: The electron spin resonance (ESR) in CuCrS(2) disulphides is found to be strongly dependent on a synthesis method used. At a temperature of 300 K, a polycrystalline CuCrS(2) sample is paramagnetic with a g-value of 1.95 at 40 K, it undergoes the magnetic transition. In the temperature range 4.2-290 K, a single-crystal sample prepared by a chemical vapor transport method exhibits the ESR features typical of a ferromagnet. It is shown that these features are related to the presence of a small amount of the single-crystal CuCr(2)S(4) impurity in the CuCrS(2) single crystal. (C) 2010 American Institute of Physics. Аннотация: The fractal dimension of the boundaries of clusters formed by pores and granules in polycrystalline materials is shown to be determined by the sample density and crystallite sizes. The dependence of the fractal dimension on the density has a maximum. It is shown that the maximum diamagnetic response can be obtained in a porous high-temperature superconductor with a porosity of 50-60% and small crystallite sizes.

Аннотация: The electrical and galvanomagnetic properties of the Gd0.2Mn0.8Se solid solutions are investigated in zero magnetic field and in a field of 13 kOe in the temperature range of 80–400 K. The negative magnetoresistance below room temperature and hysteresis of the I–V characteristics are found. The change in the magnetoresistance sign and thermopower with increasing temperature is established. The carrier type is determined from the Hall constant; the difference between the thermopower and Hall coefficient signs at high temperatures is established. The experimental data are explained using the model of orbital ordering and spin-orbit interaction.

Аннотация: The influence of thermomagnetic prehistory on the behavior of a resistive transition R(T) in external magnetic fields of polycrystalline YBa(2)Cu(3)O(7) and Bi(1.8)Pb(0.3)Sr(1.9)Ca(2)Cu(3)O (x) high-temperature supercon-ductors and the Bi(1.8)Pb(0.3)Sr(1.9)Ca(2)Cu(3)O (x) + Ag texture has been investigated. It has been found that, for YBa(2)Cu(3)O(7), the thermomagnetic prehistory exerts a substantial influence on the dissipation in the subsystem of grain boundaries in magnetic fields up to similar to 10(3) Oe, and this effect becomes insignificant in fields higher than similar to 10(4) Oe. This behavior has been explained by the influence of magnetic moments of high-temperature superconductor grains on the effective magnetic field in the intergranular medium. For bismuth high-temperature superconductors, no influence of thermomagnetic prehistory on the resistive transition has been observed; however, this effect manifests itself in current-voltage characteristics at high transport current densities. There is also a radical difference in the behavior of isotherms of the magnetoresistance R(H) for the yttrium and bismuth systems. For YBa(2)Cu(3)O(7), there is a clear separation between the dissipation regimes in the intergranular medium and in grains, which manifests itself even at low transport current densities as a change of sign in the curvature of the dependence R(H). For a texture based on the bismuth high-temperature superconductor, this feature has been observed only at high current densities (comparable to the critical current density at H = 0). This difference in the behavior of magnetoresistive properties of the classical high-temperature superconductor systems under investigation has been explained by relatively low irreversibility fields of the bismuth high-temperature superconductors. In these materials, simultaneous processes of dissipation can occur in an external magnetic field both in the subsystem of grain boundaries between crystallites and in the crystallites themselves.

Аннотация: The dimension D of a polycrystalline film and the optical anisotropy m = εz/εx of uniaxial crystallites with the principal components εx = εy and εz of the tensor of the dielectric constant have been shown to produce a strong influence on the effective dielectric constant εD* and the effective refractive index nD* = (εD*)1/2 of the film in the optical transparency region, as well as on the boundaries of the intervals BDl ≤ εD* ≤ BDu. The intervals Δ2(m) = B2l–B2u and Δ3(m) = B3l–B3u are separated by a gap for m in the range 1 m 2, whereas the theoretical dependence ε2*(m) is separated by a gap from the interval Δ3(m) for m in the range 1 m 4. This is confirmed by a comparison of the experimental (noP) and theoretical (nD*) ordinary refractive indices for uniaxial polycrystalline films of the conjugated polymer poly(p-phenylene vinylene) (PPV) with uniaxial crystallites and appropriate values of m. In the visible transparency region of the PPV films with a change in m(λ) in the range 2 m(λ) 3 due to the dependence of the components εx,z(λ) on the light wavelength λ, the refractive indices noP2(λ) 3 near the electronic absorption band of the crystallites, the values of εoP(λ) lie in the region of the overlap of the intervals Δ2(m) and Δ3(m). The boundaries mc of the range 1 m mc are determined, for which the interval Δ2(m) is separated by a gap from the dependences ε3*(m) corresponding to the effective medium theory with spherical crystallites and hierarchical models of a polycrystal, as well as from the proposed new dependence ε3*(m).
