Аннотация: We develop the theory of quantum transport of electrons through systems with strong correlations between fermionic and internal spin degrees of freedom. The atomic representation for the Hamiltonian of a device and nonequilibrium Green’s functions constructed using the Hubbard operators allow overcoming difficulties in the perturbation theory encountered in the traditional approach because of a larger number of bare scattering amplitudes. Representing the matrix elements of effective interactions as a superposition of terms each of which is split in matrix indices, we obtain a simple method for solving systems of very many equations for nonequilibrium Green’s functions in the atomic representation. As a result, we obtain an expression describing the electron currents in a device one of whose sites is in tunnel coupling with the left contact and the other, with the right contact. We derive closed kinetic equations for the occupation numbers under conditions where the electron flow leads to significant renormalization of them.

Аннотация: Here we study a combined effect of the spin-orbit coupling and scattering on the nonmagnetic disorder on the formation of the spin resonance peak in iron-based superconductors. Spin susceptibility is calculated within the random phase approximation. The spin resonance peak becomes broader with the increase of disorder and its frequency also shifts. At the same time, the spin response in the s state is different from that of the s++ state.Исследуется совместное влияние спин-орбитального взаимодействия и рассеяния на немагнитном беспорядке на формирование спин-резонансного пика в сверхпроводниках на основе железа. Спиновая восприимчивость вычислена в приближении хаотических фаз. Спин-резонансный пик становится шире с увеличением беспорядка, и его частота также смещается. В то же время спиновый отклик в состоянии s± отличается от такового в состоянии s++.

Аннотация: We study the dependence of the superconducting gaps on both the disorder and the temperature within the two-band model for iron-based materials. In the clean limit, the system is in the s± state with sign-changing gaps. Scattering by nonmagnetic impurities leads to the change of the sign of the smaller gap, resulting in a transition from the s± to the s++ state with the sign-preserving gaps. We show here that the transition is temperature-dependent. Thus, there is a line of s±→s++ transition in the temperature–disorder phase diagram. There is a narrow range of impurity scattering rates, where the disorder-induced s±→s++ transition occurs at low temperatures, but then the low-temperature s++ state transforms back to the s± state at higher temperatures. With increasing impurity scattering rate, the temperature of such s++→s± transition shifts to the critical temperature Tc, and only the s++ state is left for higher amounts of disorder.

Аннотация: To establish the existence of dipole glass in the chromium-substituted bismuth pyrostannate solid solutions, the frequency and temperature dependences of the permittivity have been measured in the temperature range of 300–750 K. The field and dynamic dependences of polarization in the temperature range of 80–550 K have been determined. Using the Raman scattering spectra, the absence of inversion center has been established. The maximum of electrical resistance has been found in the vicinity of the dipole moment freezing point. The carrier type has been determined from the thermopower data. The polarization relaxation is shown to be nonexponential. The experimental data are explained within the model of dipole glass in the α- phase and the model of charged crystalline domain walls with the electron-polarization relaxation mechanism above the α–β structural transition.

Аннотация: An optical-mechanical model has been developed to describe the transmittance, polarization and small-angle distribution of light scattered by an uniaxially-stretched polymer film containing the elongated ellipsoidal droplets of nematic liquid crystal. It is based on the approximations of Foldy-Twersky, anomalous diffraction, and single scattering. The spectral dependences of transmittances and polarizing abilities of the polymer dispersed liquid crystal films have been analyzed as well as the small-angle intensity distribution and the polarization degree of scattered light depending on the film thicknesses, refractive index of polymer matrix, sizes of droplets, their anisometry parameters, concentration, polydispersity, and optical axes orientation. The optical characteristics of films with homogeneous and inhomogeneous interfacial anchoring at the surface of liquid crystal droplets have been considered. The transmittance and polarizing ability of the films have been studied as functions of the angular aperture of the system recording scattered light. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd

Аннотация: Polymer dispersed nematic liquid crystal (PDNLC) films with conical boundary conditions at the LC-polymer interface are considered. The conical surface anchoring with tilt angle 40° initiates forming the axial-bipolar director configuration inside nematic droplets. This droplet structure exhibits the strong scattering of light polarized parallel to the bipolar axis. In the initial state, the bipolar axes in all droplets are oriented randomly, and therefore PDNLC film scatters a light of any polarization. Electric field applied along the film plane orients the bipolar axes unidirectionally in the whole droplet ensemble, that results in its high polarization-dependent transmittance. Such PDNLC films can be used in the electrically controllable linear polarizers characterized by 89% value of the transmittance for the perpendicular polarized light and high extinction ratio 590:1 at the electric field 0.34 V/μm.

Аннотация: Исследованы интерференционные изменения интенсивности неполяризованного света, распространяющегося через ансамбль жидкокристаллических доменов, сформированных на поверхности поликарбоната. Расчетными методами получены выражения для интенсивности света и фазовой задержки между обыкновенными и необыкновенными лучами с учетом изменения ориентации директора нематика под действием электрического поля. Представлены экспериментальные зависимости интенсивности света от напряжения, согласующиеся с расчетными. Изучено рассеяние света при его распространении через формирующиеся в процессе роста домены. Показано, что интерференционные изменения интенсивности при варьировании напряжения обусловливаются суперпозицией необыкновенных и обыкновенных лучей, проходящих через домены.Interference variations of the intensity of the unpolarized light propagating through the ensemble of liquid crystal domains formed on the polycarbonate surface were investigated. By calculation methods, the expressions for the light intensity and the phase delay between ordinary and extraordinary rays were obtained taking into account the change of the nematic director orientation under the action of the electric field. Experimental dependences of the light intensity on voltage are consistent with the calculated ones. The scattering of light during its propagation through the growing domains was studied. It is shown that the interference intensity changes at varying voltage are caused by the superposition of extraordinary and ordinary rays passing through the domains.

Аннотация: The paper examines the characteristics of the miniature sensor of weak magnetic fields on the resonant microstrip structure with a thin ferromagnetic film. The authors calculated the frequency response of irregular microstrip resonator containing anisotropic magnetic film in quasi-static approximation. The resonator is connected to transmission lines via coupling capacities. The authors determined the optimal directional angles of the constant magnetic displacement field ensuring maximum sensitivity of the sensor. They examined the impact of angular and amplitude dispersion of uniaxial magnetic anisotropy of thin film upon the sensor characteristics. The regularities determined in this research qualitatively agree with the experimental results.

Аннотация: A model to describe light scattering by polymer film containing of monolayer of liquid crystal droplets with inhomogeneous anchoring of liquid crystal molecules at the polymer-droplet interface is developed. It is based on the interference approximation of the wave scattering theory. The director field distribution in the droplet volume is determined by solving the free energy density minimization problem using the relaxation method. The spatial distribution of droplets in the layer is described by the hard disks model. The amplitude scattering matrices of individual droplets are found in the anomalous diffraction approximation. The algorithm for numerical analysis of the characteristics of light scattered in a polymer film containing droplets at homogeneous and inhomogeneous surface anchoring is described in terms of the partial filling factors of the monolayer film. Electrically controllable symmetry breaking effect of angular distribution of light scattered by films containing droplets with inhomogeneous anchoring at the polymer-droplet interface is described and experimentally confirmed.

Аннотация: In this paper, we present a comprehensive study of magnetic dynamics in the rare-earth orthoferrite YbFeO3 at temperatures below and above the spin-reorientation (SR) transition TSR=7.6K, in magnetic fields applied along the a,b, and c axes. Using single-crystal inelastic neutron scattering, we observed that the spectrum of magnetic excitations consists of two collective modes well separated in energy: 3D gapped magnons with a bandwidth of ∼60meV, associated with the antiferromagnetically (AFM) ordered Fe subsystem, and quasi-1D AFM fluctuations of ∼1meV within the Yb subsystem, with no hybridization of those modes. The spin dynamics of the Fe subsystem changes very little through the SR transition and could be well described in the frame of semiclassical linear spin-wave theory. On the other hand, the rotation of the net moment of the Fe subsystem at TSR drastically changes the excitation spectrum of the Yb subsystem, inducing the transition between two regimes with magnon and spinonlike fluctuations. At TTSR, the Yb spin chains have a well defined field-induced ferromagnetic (FM) ground state, and the spectrum consists of a sharp single-magnon mode, a two-magnon bound state, and a two-magnon continuum, whereas at TTSR only a gapped broad spinonlike continuum dominates the spectrum. In this work we show that a weak quasi-1D coupling within the Yb subsystem JYb-Yb, mainly neglected in previous studies, creates unusual quantum spin dynamics on the low-energy scales. The results of our work may stimulate further experimental search for similar compounds with several magnetic subsystems and energy scales, where low-energy fluctuations and underlying physics could be “hidden” by a dominating interaction.

Аннотация: IIrradiation of superconductors with different particles is one of many ways to investigate the effects of disorder. Here we study the disorder-induced transition between s ± and s ++ states in the two-band model for Fe-based superconductors with nonmagnetic impurities. Specifically, we investigate the important question of whether the superconducting gaps during the transition change smoothly or abruptly. We show that the behavior can be of either type and is controlled by the ratio of intraband to interband impurity scattering potentials, and by a parameter σ, that represents scattering strength and ranges from zero (Born approximation) to one (unitary limit). For the pure interband scattering potential and the scattering strength σ ≲ 0.11, the s ± → s ++ transition is accompanied by steep changes in the gaps, while for larger values of σ, the gaps change smoothly. The behavior of the gaps is characterized by steep changes at low temperatures, T˂ 0.1Tc0 with Tc0 being the critical temperature in the clean limit, otherwise it changes gradually. The critical temperature Tc is always a smooth function of the scattering rate in spite of the steep changes in the behavior of the gaps.

Аннотация: The phonon dispersion in terbium iron borate TbFe3(BO3)4 has been measured by inelastic neutron scattering in a temperature range 180˂T˂350 K through the displacive structural transition at TS=192.5K and studied by ab initio calculations. Significant, but not complete, softening of the transverse acoustic (TA) branch has been observed at the corner of the Brillouin zone (Λ point) at temperatures T⪆TS, in full agreement with theoretical calculations. The TA soft mode undergoes considerable broadening at the Λ point near the transition temperature that can be attributed to the anharmonic interference between transverse acoustic and optical modes.

Аннотация: A technique for determining the optical characteristics of the domain structures of nematic liquid crystals using a focused laser beam is presented. The dependences of the intensity of polarized light on the voltage of a separate nematic domain formed by a polycarbonate surface in the presence of a magnetic field are obtained. It is shown that the optical characteristics cannot be interpreted within the framework of the concept of light scattering, which is suitable in the case of an ensemble of domains probed by a wide laser beam. The analysis of the results is based on the assumption of gradient index optics.

Аннотация: Raman spectra of (NH4)3TiF7 within spectral range 10–3,400 cm−1 at temperatures 8–370 K are recorded, which revealed 2 phase transitions at temperatures T1 = 355 K and T2 = 283 K. First principles calculations of lattice dynamics and assignment of the observed lines to specific vibrational types are performed. The first phase transition is classified as an “order–disorder” one. Manifestation of 97 cm−1 vibration (mixed translational [NH4 + F7]) evidences the creation of the hydrogen bond between ammonium group and free fluorine atom, indicating to reconstructive type of phase transition an T2 = 283 K. The emergence of a large number of vibrational lines in Raman spectra at low temperatures proves symmetry lowering of NH4 tetrahedra with the simultaneous ordering of TiF6 octahedra.

Аннотация: The excitation of four coherent phonon modes of different symmetries is realized in copper metaborate CuB2O4 via impulsive stimulated Raman scattering (ISRS). The phonons are detected by monitoring changes in the linear optical birefringence using the polarimetric detection (PD) technique. We compare the results of the ISRS-PD experiment to the polarized spontaneous Raman scattering spectra. We show that agreement between the two sets of data obtained by these allied techniques in a wide phonon frequency range of 4-14 THz can be achieved by taking into account the symmetry of the phonon modes and corresponding excitation and detection selection rules. It is also important to account for the difference between incoherent and coherent phonons in terms of their contributions to the Raman scattering process. This comparative analysis highlights the importance of the ratio between the frequency of a particular mode, and the pump and probe spectral widths. We analytically demonstrate that the pump and probe pulse durations of 90 and 50 fs, respectively, used in our experiments limit the highest frequency of the excited and detected coherent phonon modes to 12 THz, and define their relative amplitudes.
