Аннотация: We report on the behavior of frequency and temperature dependences of the impedance of a measuring cell in the form of a parallel-plate capacitor filled with barium hexaaluminate ceramics with four aluminum cations replaced by iron (BaO · 2Fe2O3 · 4Al2O3). The measurements have been performed in the frequency range of 0.5–108 Hz at temperatures of 20-375°C. A technique for determining the electrical properties of the investigated ceramics is proposed, which is based on an equivalent electric circuit allowing the recorded impedance spectra to be approximated with sufficiently high accuracy. The established spectral features are indicative of the presence of two electric relaxation times different from each other by three orders of magnitude. This fact is explained by the difference between the charge transport processes in the bulk of crystallites and thin intercrystallite spacers, for which the charge activation energies have been determined.

Аннотация: Raman spectra of Ho1-xNdxFe(BO3)4 (x=1, 0.75, 0.5, 0.25) have been studied in temperature range 10-400K. Two compositions (x=1, x=0.75) demonstrate structural phase transition with soft mode restoration. The addition of Nd atoms increases interatomic spacing and decreases the temperature of structural phase transition. The solid solutions (x=0.75, 0.5, 0.25) demonstrate the emergence of the peaks corresponding to magnetoelastic interaction below Neel temperature. The order parameter of the magnetic phase transition has been determined. The equal concentrations of holmium and neodymium atoms prevent magnon soft modes condensation caused by exchange interactions in Fe-O-Fe chains are observed. Calculations confirm the data obtained in the experiment.

Аннотация: Singular points of spin autocorrelation functions on the imaginary time axis, which determine the arguments of exponential high-frequency asymptotic behaviors, have been analyzed. It has been shown that randomly distributed inhomogeneous magnetic fields expand the wings of spectra of autocorrelation functions and, thereby, intensify the heating of a system subjected to variable magnetic fields, which are used to create effective Hamiltonians or at the saturation of inhomogeneously broadened EPR lines.

Аннотация: Anhydrous chlorides - CaCl2, and KCaCl3 (chlorocalcite) were identified as mineral inclusions in halite from the Siberian Large Igneous Province at the contact of magmatic intrusions and evaporates. Chlorocalcite was also found as daughter mineral in polyphase hypersaline inclusions. While Raman spectra of KCaCl3 (chlorocalcite) in natural inclusions are similar to spectra of synthetic analogue, the Raman spectra of natural CaCl2 do not correspond to the published Raman spectra of synthetic CaCl2. Simulations of Raman spectra using ab initio density-functional theory (DFT) allowed us to calculate the spectra of individual polymorphs of CaCl2 and to discriminate anhydrous CaCl2 phases in natural inclusions and synthetic CaCl2. In the spectrum of the Pbcn polymorph of CaCl2 twelve different peaks could be identified at 74, 95, 99, 107, 124, 158, 164, 179, 212, 236, 244, 256 cm−1 in contrast to five peaks in the spectrum of the Pnnm polymorph of CaCl2 at 115, 157, 160, 211 and 252 cm−1. Naturally occurring CaCl2 in inclusions in halite consist of Pbcn polymorph only, which probably results from a mechanical stress on cooling from magmatic to ambient temperatures. However, the Raman spectra of the synthetic CaCl2 corresponds to the Pnnm phase with small contributions of the Pbcn phase. Raman spectra of synthetic KCaCl3 with main peaks at 58, 67, 90, 97, 133, 139, 147, 193 cm−1 agrees well with the spectra of chlorocalcite in the natural inclusions. Positions of each atom in the KCaCl3 structure were refined using the density-functional theory. There are no imaginary phonon modes for the optimized structure, indicating that the structure of KCaCl3 is stable. Calculated Raman spectrum is in a good agreement with the Raman spectrum of synthetic and natural KCaCl3 samples.

Аннотация: Linearly polarized absorption spectra and magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectra of ErFe3(BO3)4 single crystal were measured in the range of 9000–23000 cm−1 at 90 K. The absorption spectra of f-f transitions were decomposed into the Lorentz shape components and intensities of the components were found. MCD spectra permitted us to measure the Zeeman splitting of some transitions and so to determine changes of the Landé factor along the C3 axis of the crystal during these transitions. Optical and magneto-optical properties of f-f transitions in the ErFe3(BO3)4 crystal were compared with those in the ErAl3(BO3)4 crystal. Substantial difference of the properties connected with the difference of the Er3+ ions local symmetry in two crystals was revealed. Large splitting of one of the f-f transitions without magnetic field, which is not possible for the Kramers doublets, was observed. It was explained by appearance of two absorbing centers due to the local decrease of symmetry in the excited state. Appreciable difference of the local vibrations energy in some excited states was revealed.

Аннотация: Magnetic resonance characteristics of mixed chalcospinel nanocrystals CuCr2SxSe4−x (x = 0 and 2) and CoxCu1−xCr2S4 (x = 0.1 and 0.2) have been investigated. It has been established based on TEM, SEM and resonance data that all the samples contain both blocks with sizes from 1 to 50 m of compacted nanosized crystallites and individual nanoparticles with sizes from 10 to 30 nm. The studies provide evidence of strong interparticle interaction in all the samples leading to high values of the blocking temperature. Magnetic dipolar field arise in the boundary regions of interacting adjacent nanocrystals below the blocking temperature. This results in inhomogeneous broadening of the magnetic resonance spectrum along with appearance of additional absorption lines. With increase in magnetic anisotropy at low temperatures, a shift of the resonance field along with line broadening are observed for all the studied compounds due to freezing of the moments in the nanoparticles, both in the individual and compacted ones. A gapped characteristic of the resonance spectrum is established below the freezing temperature Tfr, with the energy gap defined by the averaged magnetic anisotropy . Anionic substitution of sulfur by selenium results in a decrease in the magnetic anisotropy. In contrast, cationic substitution of copper by cobalt increases the magnetic anisotropy due to a strong contribution from the latter ion.

Аннотация: Three new salts of pefloxacin (PefH) with thiobarbituric (H2tba) and barbituric (H2ba) acids, pefloxacinium 2-thiobarbiturate trihydrate, PefH2(Htba)·3H2O (1), pefloxacinium 2-thiobarbiturate, PefH2(Htba) (2) and bis(pefloxacinium barbiturate) hydrate, (PefH2)2(Hba)2·2.56H2O (3) are synthesized and structurally characterized by the X-ray single-crystal diffraction. The structures of 1–3 contain intramolecular hydrogen bonds C–H⋯F, O–H⋯O. Intermolecular hydrogen bonds N–H⋯O and O–H⋯O form a 2D plane network in 1. In 2 and 3, intermolecular hydrogen bonds N–H⋯O form the infinite chains. In 1–3, the Htba− and Hba− ions are connected with PefH2 + only by one intermolecular hydrogen bond N–H⋯O. In 2 and 3, two Htba− and Hba− ions are connected by two hydrogen bonds N–H⋯O. These pairs form infinite chains. All three structures are stabilized by the π−π interactions of the head-to-tail type between PefH2 + ions. Compounds 2 and 3 are characterized by powder XRD, TG-DSC and FT-IR.

Аннотация: The possibility of the existence of localized optical modes with maximum field intensity at the interface between the metal and cholesteric liquid crystal is theoretically grounded. The system comprises a defect-containing cholesteric liquid crystal and a metal layer. It is established that the localization occurs at almost any defect thickness rather than only at the half-wave thickness, at which the loss of the polarization dependence of diffraction reflection and the absence of field localization are observed for the structure without the metallic layer. It is demonstrated that the spectral properties can be controlled by external fields affecting the liquid crystal. At large thicknesses of the cholesteric liquid crystal between the defect and the metallic layer, the spectrum contains the pronounced peaks corresponding to the edge modes. The results obtained open new opportunities for controlling the transmittance spectrum, polarization, and localization of light in optoelectronic elements based on the investigated system. © 2017 Optical Society of America.

Аннотация: Polarized absorption spectra of HoFe3(BO3)4 single crystal in the range of 8500-24 500 cm-1 were studied as a function of temperature beginning from 2K. The ground and excited electron states of Ho3+ were identified. The abrupt changes of the spectra at the reorientation phase transition at 4.7K were observed. The exchange splitting of some excited states were revealed and measured. They changed at the reorientation phase transition. Several vibronic transitions were observed. The splitting of absorption lines corresponding to the C2 local symmetry of the Ho ion was not observed. Moreover, spectra of some absorption bands correspond to splitting in the cubic crystal field. There are some absorption lines, whose polarization cannot be explained both in D3 and C2 local symmetries. Some lines appear or disappear as a result of the transition from the easy axis to the easy plane state of the crystal. All these observations testify to the substantial changes of the local magnetic and structural properties in the excited states of the Ho3+ ion and to the strong influence of the magnetic moments orientation on the polarization of the electron transitions.

Аннотация: Raman scattering spectra of Rb2KHoF6 and Rb2KDyF6 crystals have been studied in temperature range from 20 K to 399 K and from 7 K to 500 K respectively. Raman spectra of Rb2KHoF6 crystal are distorted due to the fluorescence process. Parameters of Raman lines have been quantitatively analyzed. The investigation points to the considerable role of CX6 groups in the temperature phase transition in Rb2KHoF6 and Rb2KDyF6 crystals. The anomalies of spectra changes with temperature testify the first order phase transitions in these crystals. © 2017 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Аннотация: Single crystals of (NH4)3VOF5 and (NH4)3VO2F4 were obtained from aqueous fluoride solutions and phase transitions in these compounds were investigated using X-ray diffraction, differential scanning microcalorimetry (DSM) and vibrational spectroscopy. The room-temperature (RT) phases of these compounds belong to orthorhombic symmetry [Immm and I222, Z = 6, for (NH4)3VOF5 and (NH4)3VO2F4, respectively] with similar unit-cell parameters and two independent vanadium atoms. Above RT [at 350 and 440 K for (NH4)3VOF5 and (NH4)3VO2F4, respectively], the compounds undergo reversible phase transitions into high-symmetry dynamically disordered elpasolite-like (Fm3m, Z = 4) structures with six and 12 spatial orientations of the vanadium octahedron for (NH4)3VOF5 and (NH4)3VO2F4, respectively. The ligand atoms are distributed in a mixed (split) position of 24e + 96j, one of the ammonium groups is disordered on the tetrahedron 32f site, but another one forms eight spatial orientations due to disorder of its hydrogen atoms in the 96j position. DSM and spectroscopic data enable the phase transition from high temperature to room temperature to be connected with the transition from isotropic orientations of the octahedron to its two different dynamic states.

Аннотация: Polarized absorption spectra of the 5I8→5F5 transition of the Ho3+ ion in the HoFe3(BO3)4 single crystal were measured at T=2K as a function of magnetic field 0–60 kOe directed along the a, b, and c axes of the crystal. The spin-reorientation transitions were observed in the field H∥c at 5.35 kOe, in the field H∥a at 10.25 kOe, and in the field H∥b at 9.1 kOe. We also observed a small hysteresis of the transitions. We found that the optical properties of the crystal change as a function of the magnetic field orientation in the basal plane in spite of the nominally axial symmetry of the crystal. We found a number of specific local properties in the Ho3+ excited states. Nonequivalent positions of the Ho3+ ion appear in some excited states. It was shown that during one of the electron transitions the local symmetry changes not only in the excited state but in the ground state as well. We observed local metamagnetic transitions in some Ho3+ excited states. In some excited states, the Ho3+ ion is in the easy-plane state while the total crystal is in the easy-axis state and vice versa. This means that the magnetic moments of the Fe3+ and Ho3+ ions in these excited states of the Ho3+ ions are mutually perpendicular. Such phenomenon testifies to the existence of the antisymmetric Fe-Ho exchange interaction in the Ho3+ excited states.

Аннотация: The in-situ method of Raman spectroscopy was used to study the layered mineral phengite, K(Al,Mg)2(Si,Al)4O10(OH)2, compressed in water under simultaneously high temperatures and pressures (respectively, up to 373 °С and 12.5 GPa). The implemented conditions were typical of modeling the ‘cold’ subduction zones in lithospheric slabs. The high pressures and temperatures were produced in an electrically heated diamond-anvil cell. Measured Raman spectra have demonstrated a high Р–Т stability of the mineral. No non-quenchable phengite states (no reversible or irreversible polymorphic transitions, overhydration or notable amorphization) were observed in the investigated samples.
