Аннотация: A methodology to evaluate the kinetic stability of carbon nanostructures is presented based on the assumption of the independent and random nature of thermal vibrations. The kinetic stability is directly correlated to the cleavage probability for the weakest bond of a given nanostructure. The application of the presented method to fullerenes and carbon nanotubes yields clear correlation to their experimentally observed relative isomer abundances. The general and simple formulation of the method ensures its applicability to other nanostructures for which formation is controlled by kinetic factors.

Аннотация: The lattice vibration spectra, rf permittivity, and dynamic Born charges of disordered PbB(1/2)'B(1/2)'' O(3) (B' = Ga, In, Lu; B '' = Nb, Ta) solid solutions are calculated in terms of the generalized Gordon-Kim model. All the compounds are found to have soft modes related to the center (Gamma(15)) and boundary point R (R(15)) of the Brillouin zone; the frequencies of these modes are close. The ferroelectric phase transition temperatures and the spontaneous polarization in the ferroelectric phase are calculated for the solid solutions using a model Hamiltonian in the local mode approximation and the Monte Carlo method. These temperatures for the tantalum compounds are found to be higher than for the niobium compounds, and temperature t(s) increases with the atomic number of ion B'. A model where the antiferroelectric state is related to the condensation of modes Gamma(15) and R(15) is proposed. It is found that, for all compounds except for PbSc(1/2)Nb(1/2)O(3) and PbSc(1/2)Ta(1/2)O(3), the ferroelectric phase, which is only related to the condensation of mode R(15), and the antiferroelectric phase have similar energies. In PbIn(1/2)Ta(1/2)O(3), the antiferroelectric phase turns out to be energetically favorable.

Аннотация: The electronic structures of all the possible isomers of endohedral and exohedral C(60) fullerene complexes with two lithium atoms are theoretically investigated. It is found that the electronic structures of these compounds are characterized by an impurity filled-level state determining the band gap. The location of the impurity state and, correspondingly, the band gap of the exohedral fullerene complexes depend on the coordination mode and the distance between the alkali metal ions. A similar dependence is observed for the total energy of the exohedral fullerene complex under investigation. (C) 2001 MAIK "Nauka/ Interperiodica".

Аннотация: Polarized Raman spectra of single crystals of lead diborate, PbB4O7 (PBO), are studied in detail at 300 K. The TO-, LO-, and IO-phonon lines of the A1, A2, B1, and B2 symmetries in the Raman spectra of this compound are assigned. Changes in the Raman spectra of the internal vibrations of boron–oxygen complexes upon transition from the crystalline to the glassy and the molten states of PBO are observed. On the basis of the obtained results, the regularities in the formation of boron–oxygen complexes in glasses, melts, and crystals of the PbO · 2B2O3, SrO · 2B2O3, and Li2O · 2B2O3. diborate compositions are analyzed. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Аннотация: Copper oxide nanoparticles were produced by direct plasmachemical synthesis in a plasma arc discharge of low pressure. The formation of CuO nanoparticles with an average size of 12 nm and narrow size distribution intervals was determined by using the x-ray diffraction analysis and TEM microscopy methods. It was defined by using a vibration magnetometer and a SQUID magnetometer, that the magnetic properties of CuO nanoparticles with such size were extremely different from the magnetic properties of bulk antiferromagnetic CuO. Structural defects caused the formation of a ferromagnetic state, remaining at least up to the room temperature. The temperature of corresponding antiferromagnetic ordering was significantly decreased (down to ∼ 100 K). Meanwhile, some of the copper surface spins showed a spin-glass behavior at low temperatures.

Аннотация: We consider acoustic wave transmission in a non-axisymmetric waveguide which consists of a cylindrical resonator and two cylindrical waveguides whose axes are shifted relatively to each other by an azimuthal angle Δφ . Under variation of the resonator's length and fixed Δφ we find bound states in the continuum (trapped modes) due to full destructive interference of resonant modes leaking into the waveguides. Rotation of the waveguide adds complex phases to the coupling strengths of the resonator eigenmodes with the propagating modes of the waveguides tuning Fano resonances to give rise to a wave faucet. Under variation of Δφ with fixed resonator's length we find symmetry protected trapped modes. For Δφ ≠ 0 these trapped modes contribute to the scattering function supporting high vortical acoustic intensity spinning inside the resonator. The waveguide rotation brings an important feature to the scattering and provides an instrument for control of acoustic transmittance and wave trapping.
