Аннотация: The correlation of magnetic anisotropy energy with order parameter in the crystallites of CoPt nanostructured particles prepared by thermal decomposition and further annealing has been studied by investigation of the approach magnetization to saturation curves and x-ray powder diffraction pattern profiles. It is shown that magnetic anisotropy energy value in partially ordered CoPt crystallite could be described as an intermediate case between two extremes, corresponding to either single or several c-domains of L1(0) phase in crystallite. Аннотация: The surface morphology and local structure of layers in the Ni-Ge and Ge-Ni-Ge-Ni-Ge films have been investigated. It has been shown that the surface of the films follows the roughnesses of the substrate surface, which have characteristic dimensions of 2–4 nm in height and ∼100 nm in plane. It has been found that an interface with the depth ranging from 9 to 18 nm is formed at the boundaries between the Ni and Ge layers. The data obtained have been used to explain the specific features of the magnetic properties of the studied films, such as the asymmetry of hysteresis loops at low temperatures and the difference between the temperature dependences of the magnetization of the samples for two cooling modes: in a magnetic field and without a magnetic field.

Аннотация: Layer silicates F- and OH-apophyllites, KCa4Si8O20(F, OH)·8H2O, have been investigated by Raman spectroscopy at hydrostatic and nonhydrostatic pressures up to 8 GPa in diamond anvil cells using a 4 : 1 methanol–ethanol mix as pressure-transmitting medium. Our experiments show that at hydrostatic compression, apophyllites retain their crystalline states (i.e. no amorphization) up to 5 GPa. The wavenumbers of most bands exhibit linear dependences on pressure, except for a few ones, e.g. at 162 and 3565 cm–1 in OH-form (160.5 and 3558 cm–1 in F-form) that show nonlinear dependences. Nonhydrostatic compression with additional uniaxial loading induces amorphization of apophyllites. The majority of the bands in OH-apophyllite decreases markedly in intensity and shows considerable broadening under nonhydrostatic compression up to 3–6 GPa. In addition, the wavenumbers of several bands at nonhydrostatic compression exhibit considerable nonlinear dependences on pressure with strong hysteresis. These bands are mainly associated with vibrations of the interlayer ions and molecules and also of stretching and bending silicate sheets, hence being highly sensitive to the interlayer distance. Finally, we have calculated the lattice dynamics of F-apophyllite and interpreted the majority of bands, and these data are used to explain the complex baric behavior of the bands. Аннотация: The numerical simulation of the behavior of the molecules of the DOBAMBC liquid crystal by the molecular dynamics method allowed us to find the change of the the conformation of molecules as a function of temperature and to reveal the helical structures with various pitches in the smectic phase C*. These results explained the anomalous temperature dependences of the order parameter at the molecular level, as well as the optical second harmonic generation in the region of smectic A.

Аннотация: Within a new norm-conserving approach to the cluster perturbation theory (CPT) for the 2d Hubbard model we study the effect of the cluster size and shape on the electronic structure. We have compared two type of clusters, 4-cluster (2x2) and 5-cluster (cruciform of 5 atoms). With 4-cluster we can treat exactly the first and second neighbours correlations, C (1) and C (2). With 5-cluster the third neighbour correlations C (3) are also treated exactly. The band structure in the CPT with 4- and 5-clusters differs remarkably. The quasiparticle spectral weight map for 5-clusters is very similar to the Quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) and the variational CPT data. With increasing doping, small hole Fermi surface transforms into conventional Fermi-liquid type large Fermi surface through Lifshitz quantum phase transitions.

Аннотация: The influence of the orientational order of molecules in a nematic liquid crystal on the mean value ?? and anisotropy ?? of the molecular polarizability has been studied in the framework of the molecular statistical approach with allowance for the perturbation of the electronic structure of molecules due to the change in the conformation of their aromatic core and intermolecular interactions. Experimental dependences of ?? and ?? on the molecular orientational order parameter S have been derived, and their specific features for the known objects have been explained. The possibility of separating the contributions of opposite signs to the dependence ??(S) due to the change in the conformation of molecules and intermolecular interactions has been shown using nematic MBBA as an example. © 2014 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Аннотация: The formation of the hard-magnetic ordered L10-FePd phase in thin bilayer Pd/α-Fe(001) films has been experimentally studied. Solid-state reactions initiated by thermal heating in bilayer Pd/α-Fe(001) films with a thickness of 50–60 nm (the atomic ratio Pd: Fe ≈ 50: 50) separated from the substrate have been studied using the in situ electron diffraction methods. It has been shown that the solid-state reaction between the palladium and iron layers in Pd/α-Fe(001) starts at 400°C with the formation of the disordered Fe-Pd phase. At 480°C, the ordered L10-FePd phase is formed. The order-disorder phase transition has been studied. It has been established that the transition of the ordered L10-FePd phase to the disordered FePd phase starts at 725°C. At 740°C, only the disordered FePd phase is present over the whole volume of the film. The observed temperature of the order-disorder phase transition is shifted from the equilibrium value by 35°C to higher temperatures. This effect is assumingly associated with the higher concentration of palladium atoms at the boundaries of the Fe-Pd crystal grains owing to the grain-boundary adsorption.

Аннотация: Cation substitution dependent tunable bimodal photoluminescence behavior was observed in the Ca3-xSrx(PO4)2:Eu2+ (0 ≤ x ≤ 2) solid solution phosphors. The Rietveld refinements verified the phase purity and whitlockite type crystal structure of the solid solutions. The tunable photoluminescence evolution was studied as a function of strontium content, over the composition range 0.1 ≤ x ≤ 2. In addition to the emission band peak at 416 nm in Ca3(PO4)2:Eu2+, the substitution of Ca2+ by Sr2+ induced the emerging broad-band peak at 493-532 nm. A dramatic red shift of the emission peak located in the green-yellow region was observed on an increase of x in the samples with 0.75 ≤ x ≤ 2.00. The two emission bands could be related to the EuOn-Ca9 and EuOn-Ca9-xSrx emitting blocks, respectively. The values for the two kinds of emitting blocks in the solid solutions can be fitted well with the observed intensity evolution of the two emission peaks.

Аннотация: A novel blue-emitting double-phosphate phosphor Cs0.72Ca0.72Gd1.28(PO4)(2):Eu2+ was synthesized by the sol-gel method, and the structure and luminescence properties were investigated in detail. The crystal structure and chemical composition of Cs0.72Ca0.72Gd1.28(PO4)(2) matrix was analyzed and determined based on Rietveld refinements and phase and chemical composition analysis. The composition-optimized Cs0.72Ca0.72Gd1.28(PO4)(2):Eu2+ exhibited strong blue light, peaking at 462 nm upon excitation at 365 nm with the CIE coordinates of (0.139, 0.091). The quenching concentration of Eu2+ in the Cs0.72Ca0.72Gd1.28(PO4)(2) phase was about 0.01 and attributed to the dipole-quadrupole interaction. The thermally stable luminescence properties, fluorescence decay curves and diffuse reflectance spectra of Cs0.72Ca0.72Gd1.28(PO4)(2):Eu2+ phosphors are also discussed, all of which indicate that the Cs0.72Ca0.72Gd1.28(PO4)(2):Eu2+ phosphor is a promising phosphor for application in white-light UV LEDs.

Аннотация: The hysteretic dependences of the magnetoresistance of porous (38% of the theoretical density) granular high-temperature superconductor (HTSC) Bi1.8Pb0.3Sr1.9Ca2Cu3O (x) have been analyzed in the model of the effective intergranular field. This effective field has been defined by the superposition of the external field and the field induced by magnetic moments of superconducting grains. The magnetic flux compression in an intergranular medium, characterized by the effective field, controls the hysteretic behavior of the magnetoresistance. It has been found that the magnetoresistance hysteresis width for the studied porous HTSC depends on the transport current, in contrast to the superconductor of the same composition with high physical density (more than 90% of the theoretical value). For a porous superconductor, a significant current concentration occurs in the region of the grain boundaries, which is caused by features of its microstructure. A current-induced increase in the effective boundary length results in a decrease in the flux compression, a decrease in the effective field in the intergranular medium, and a magnetoresistance hysteresis narrowing with increasing current.

Аннотация: Compound La0.7Sr0.3Mn0.85Nb0.15O3, in which manganese ions are in an oxidation state close to 3+, are studied by neutron diffraction and magnetic measurements. This compound is shown to be a ferromagnet with T C = 145 K and a magnetic moment of 3.1 μB/Mn at T = 10 K. No signs of cooperative orbital ordering are detected. When Mg2+ ions substitute for some Nb5+ ions, Mn4+ ions appear but ferromagnetism is not enhanced. An increase in the structural distortions leads to a decrease in the ferromagnetic component. The ferromagnetic state is assumed to be caused by substantial hybridization of the e g orbitals of manganese and oxygen, which increases the positive part of the superexchange interactions.

Аннотация: Zero field splitting (ZFS) of Gd3+ impurity in ScF3 is studied by electron paramagnetic resonance at 77 and 295 K. ZFS parameter b4 values obtained from angular dependence simulations show that regardless of negative thermal expansion in ScF3 temperature dependence of |b4| is similar to other cubic fluoroperovskites. Our analysis of ZFS parameters indicates that the local structure of Gd3+ centres expands positively with temperature. © 2015 The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

Аннотация: We report the results of comparative analysis of magnetic properties of the systems based on ε-Fe2O3, nanoparticles with different average sizes (from ∼3 to 9 nm) and dispersions. The experimental data for nanoparticles higher than 6-8 nm in size are consistent with the available data, specifically, the transition to the magnetically ordered state occurs at a temperature of ∼500 K and the anomalies of magnetic properties observed in the range of 80-150 K correspond to the magnetic transition. At the same time, Mossbauer and ferromagnetic resonance spectroscopy data as well as the results of static magnetic measurements show that at room temperature all the investigated samples contain ε-Fe2O3 particles that exhibit the superparamagnetic behavior. It was established that the magnetic properties of nanoparticles significantly change with a decrease in their size to ∼6 nm. According to high-resolution electron microscopy and Mossbauer spectroscopy data, the particle structure can be attributed to the ε-modification of trivalent iron oxide; meanwhile, the temperature of the magnetic order onset in these particles is increased, the well-known magnetic transition in the range of 80-150 K does not occur, the crystallographic magnetic anisotropy constant is significantly reduced, and the surface magnetic anisotropy plays a decisive role. This is apparently due to redistribution of cations over crystallographic positions with decreasing particle size, which was established using Mössbauer spectra. As the particle size is decreased and the fraction of surface atoms is increased, the contribution of an additional magnetic subsystem formed in a shell of particles smaller than ∼4 nm becomes significant, which manifests itself in the static magnetic measurements as paramagnetic contribution. © 2015 AIP Publishing LLC.

Аннотация: Magnetic interactions in Co–Ni–P multilayers consisting of alternating magnetically soft and magnetically hard layers are experimentally investigated. The variation in the shape of magnetization loops at the conjugation of magnetically soft and magnetically hard layers and the saturation field oscillations with varying number of layer pairs are established. It is demonstrated that insertion of a nonmagnetic spacer significantly affects the magnetization reversal in the structure. It is concluded that in studying the interlayer coupling it is necessary to take into account the biquadratic interaction.

Аннотация: In this paper, a series of novel luminescent Sr1−xAl12O19:xEu2+ phosphors were synthesized by a high temperature solid-state reaction. The phase structure, photoluminescence (PL) properties, as well as the decay curves were investigated. The quenching concentration of Eu2+ in SrAl12O19 was about 0.15 (mol). Upon excitation at 378 nm, the composition-optimized Sr0.85Al12O19:0.15Eu2+ exhibited strong broad-band green emission at 530 nm with the CIE chromaticity (0.2917, 0.5736). The results indicate that Sr1−xAl12O19:xEu2+ phosphors have potential applications as green-emitting phosphors for UV-pumped white-light LEDs.

Аннотация: We investigate the electronic structure of the two-dimensional t–J model in a transverse external static magnetic field with canted long-range magnetic order using cluster perturbation theory. The distribution of the spectral weight in the whole range of fields from zero to ferromagnetic saturation is explored. We demonstrate the possibility of a sharp change in a distribution of spectral weight at the Fermi level associated with the magnetic correlations when varying magnetic field.

Аннотация: We report the results of investigations of ε-Fe2O3 magnetic nanoparticles obtained by incipient wetness impregnation of silica gel. It was established that the obtained samples with an iron content of 12‒16% mass % containing ε-Fe2O3 nanoparticles with an average size of 10 nm on the silica gel surface exhibit a room-temperature coercivity of about 10 kOe. Аннотация: The current-voltage characteristics of a porous superconductor Bi(2)Sr(2)Ca(2)Cu(3)O (x) (Bi2223) have been measured at temperatures in the range from 10 to 90 K in magnetic fields of 0-80 kOe. The experimental dependences have been analyzed within the model allowing for pinning by clusters of a normal phase with fractal boundaries, as well as the model taking into account phase transformations of vortex matter. It has been found that the electrical resistance of the superconductor material significantly increases at temperatures of 60-70 K over the entire range of magnetic fields under consideration without changing in the sign of the curvature of the dependence R(I). It has been assumed that this behavior is associated with the specific feature of the pinning in a highly porous high-temperature superconductor, which lies in the fractality of the distribution of pinning centers in a wide range of self-similarity scales. The studied material at the aforementioned temperatures is characterized by the melting of the vortex structure.

Аннотация: Magnetization of the cation-substituted CoxMn1-xS sulfides upon cooling in zero and 100 Oe magnetic fields at the temperatures 4-300 K has been measured. Permittivity of these materials at frequencies from 1 to 100 kHz in magnetic and dc electric fields in the 100-300 K temperature range has been determined. Change in the dielectric permittivity under an external magnetic field is found to have a maximum in the temperature ranges of T-1 similar to (110-120 K) and T-2 similar to (230-250 K). Formation of spontaneous magnetic moment and the rise of magnetic susceptibility are revealed at the same temperatures in the CoxMn1-xS solid solutions. Features of the magnetoelectric properties of the sulfides have been explained by orbital ordering.
