The formation and structural parameters of new double molybdates RbLn(MoO4)2 (Ln = Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu) : Proceedings paper / O. D. Chimitova [et al.] // Proc. of SPIE. - 2013. - Vol. 8771. - Ст. 87711A. - P. DOI 10.1117/12.2017816
Перевод заглавия: Формирование и структурные параметры новых двойных молибдатов RbLn(MoO4)2 (Ln=Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu)
Аннотация: The structures of double molybdates with general compositions ALn(MoO4)2 (A – alkaline metals, Cu or Tl) have been considered and compared. It has been shown that the ionic radii ratio RLn/RA is a key factor governing crystal symmetry. Different structure fields in ALn(MoO4)2 (A = Li+, Na+, K+, Cu+, Rb+, Ag+, Cs+, Tl+) molybdates have been defined as a function of element composition.

    Nonlinear backward-wave photonic metamaterials / A. K. Popov [et al.] // Adv. Sci.Technol. - 2013. - Vol. 77. - P. 246-252DOI 10.4028/www.scientific.net/AST.77.246
Перевод заглавия: Нелинейные метаматериалы с обратной волной для фотоники
Аннотация: Novel concepts of nonlinear-optical (NLO) photonic metamaterial are proposed. They concern photonic materials that support backward electromagnetic or vibration waves (BWs) and provide coherent nonlinear-optical energy exchange between ordinary and BWs as applied to three- and four-wave mixing processes. Three different classes of materials which support BWs are considered: plasmonic negative-index (NI) metamaterials (NIMs), metamaterials with specially engineered spatial dispersion of the nanoscopic building blocks, such as standing carbon nanotubes, and crystals that support optical phonons with negative group velocity. The possibility to exploit ordinary crystals instead of plasmonic NLO metamaterials that are very challenging to engineer is proposed. It is shown that extraordinary nonlinear optical frequency-conversion propagation processes attributed to NIMs can be mimicked in the proposed metamaterials. It is also shown that the detrimental effects of strong losses can be mitigated in the short-pulse regimes, which exhibit exotic properties when ordinary and BWs are involved in the NLO coupling. Comparative review of unparallel properties of coherent energy exchange between ordinary and backward electromagnetic waves in NIMs and between ordinary electromagnetic waves coupled through backward vibration waves is given. Unique photonic devices are proposed.

    Enhancing coherent nonlinear-optical processes in nonmagnetic backward-wave materials / A. K. Popov [и др.] // The 3th International Conference on Metamaterials, Photonic Crystals and Plasmonics (META’12) : Proceedings. - 2012. - P. 66
Аннотация: Novel concepts of nonlinear-optical (NLO) photonic metamaterials (MMs) are proposed. They concern with greatly enhanced coherent NLO energy exchange between ordinary and backward waves (BWs) through the frequency-conversion processes. Two different classes of materials which support BWs are considered: crystals that support optical phonons with negative group velocity and MMs with specially engineered spatial dispersion. The possibility to replace plasmonic NLO MMs enabling magnetic response at optical frequencies, which are very challenging to engineer, by the ordinary readily available crystals, are discussed. The possibility to mimic extraordinary NLO frequency-conversion propagation processes attributed to negative-index MMs (NIMs) is shown in some of such crystals, if optical phonons with negative group velocity and a proper phase-matching geometry are implemented. Here, optical phonons are used as one of the coupled counterparts instead of backward electromagnetic waves (BEMWs). The appearance of BEMWs in metaslabs made of carbon nanotubes, the possibilities and extraordinary properties of BW second harmonic generation in such MMs is another option of nonmagnetic NIMs, which is described too. Among the applications of the proposed photonic materials is the possibility of creation of a family of unique BW photonic devices such as frequency doubling metamirror and Raman amplifiers with greatly improved efficiency.

Аннотация: A possibility to greatly enhance frequency-conversion efficiency of stimulated Raman scattering is shown by making use of extraordinary properties of three-wave mixing of ordinary and backward waves. Such processes are commonly attributed to negative-index plasmonic metamaterials. This work demonstrates the possibility to replace such metamaterials that are very challenging to engineer by readily available crystals which support elastic waves with contra-directed phase and group velocities. The main goal of this work was to investigate specific properties of indicated nonlinear optical process in short-pulse regime and to show that it enables elimination of fundamental detrimental effect of fast damping of optical phonons on the process concerned. Among the applications is the possibility of creation of a family of unique photonic devices such as unidirectional Raman amplifiers and femtosecond pulse shapers with greatly improved operational properties.

Аннотация: In the framework of the temporal coupled mode theory we consider bound states embedded in the continuum (BSC) of photonic crystal waveguide as a capacity for light storage. A symmetry protected BSC occurs in two off-channel microresonators positioned symmetrically relative to the waveguide. We demonstrate that the symmetry protected BSC captures a fraction of a light pulse due to the Kerr effect as the pulse passes by the microresonators. However the amount of captured light is found to be strongly sensitive to the parameters of the gaussian light pulse such as basic frequency, duration and intensity. In contrast to the above case the BSC resulted from a full destructive interference of two eigenmodes of a single microresonator accumulates a fixed amount of light dependent on the material parameters of the microresonator but independent of the light pulse. The BSCs in the Fabry-Perot resonator show similar effects. We also show that the accumulated light can be released by a secondary pulse. These phenomena pave a way for all-optical storage and release of light. (C) 2015 Optical Society of America

   PARAMETRIC AMPLIFICATION

Аннотация: The properties of backward-wave second-harmonic metareflector operating in pulse regime are investigated. It is made of metamaterial which enables phase matching of contra-propagating fundamental and second-harmonic waves. References are given to the works that prove such a possibility. Physical principles underlying differences in the proposed and standard settings as well as between continuous-wave and pulsed regimes are discussed. Pulsed regime is more practicable and has a broader scope of applications. A set of partial differential equations which describe such a reflector with the account for losses are solved numerically. It is shown that unlike second-harmonic generation in standard settings, contra-propagating pulse of second harmonic may become much longer than the incident fundamental one and the difference grows with decrease in the input pulse length as compared to thickness of the metaslab. The revealed properties are important for applications and may manifest themselves beyond the optical wavelength range.

Аннотация: We present a comparative analysis of transient processes in media with a negative refractive index for the parametric interaction of co- and counter-propagating waves. The transient time for the interaction of counter-propagating waves is shown to considerably exceed that for the interaction of co- propagating waves. In the case of counter-propagating waves, we present fitting results for the generated wave amplitude as a function of time and for the transient time vs. the amplitude of the pump wave and the length of the medium.

backward electromagnetic waves -- carbon nanotubes -- hyperbolic metamaterials -- second harmonic generation
Аннотация: We show that a deliberately engineered dispersive metamaterial slab can enable the coexistence and phase matching of ordinary fundamental and contra-propagating backward second harmonic electromagnetic waves. Energy flux and phase velocity are contra-directed in the backward waves, which is the extraordinary phenomenon that gives rise to unique nonlinear optical propagation processes. We demonstrate that frequencies, phase, and group velocities, as well as the losses inherent to the guided electromagnetic modes supported by such metamaterial, can be tailored to maximize the conversion of frequencies and to reverse the propagation direction of the generated second harmonic wave. Such a possibility, which is of paramount importance for nonlinear photonics, is proven using a numerical model describing the hyperbolic metamaterial made of carbon nanotubes standing on the metal surface. Extraordinary properties of the backward-wave second harmonic generation in the reflection direction and of the corresponding frequency doubling metareflector in the THz are investigated with a focus on the pulsed regime. © 2017 American Chemical Society.

photonic crystal -- nanocomposite -- optical Tamm state
Аннотация: The spectral properties of a one-dimensional photonic crystal bounded with a resonance-absorbing nanocomposite layer are investigated. The bulk concentrations of metal nanoparticles dispersed in a transparent nanocomposite matrix are determined at which the effective permittivity takes near-zero values. The transmission, reflection and absorption spectra of the investigated structures at the normal incidence of light are calculated. The demonstrated possibility of formation of the optical Tamm states at the interface between the photonic crystal and nanocomposite is ensured by the near-zero real and imaginary parts of the permittivity or only the imaginary part of the permittivity at the zero real part. The specific features of field localization at the optical Tamm state frequencies are examined.
