Аннотация: The review is aimed at highlighting the aspects of topological superconductivity in the absence of spin-orbit interaction in two-dimensional systems with long-range noncollinear spin ordering or magnetic skyrmions. Another purpose is to give a brief introduction to the new concept of topological superconductivity, i.e. higher-order topology in two-dimensional systems including spin-orbit coupled structures. The formation of Majorana modes due to magnetic textures is discussed. The role of effective triplet pairings and odd fermion parity of the ground state wave function in different systems is emphasized. We describe the peculiarities of the magnetic skyrmions, leading to the formation of the Majorana modes and defects on which the modes are localized. The problem of braiding in the two-dimensional systems, especially in higher-order topological superconductors, is considered.

Аннотация: A sequence of magnetocaloric anomalies occurring with the change in a magnetic field H is predicted for an open nanowire with the Rashba spin–orbit coupling and the induced superconducting pairing potential. The nature of such anomalies is due to the cascade of quantum transitions related to the successive changes in the fermion parity of the nanowire ground state with the growth of the magnetic field. It is shown that the critical Hc values fall within the parameter range corresponding to the nontrivial values of the Z2 topological invariant of the corresponding 1D band Hamiltonian characteristic of the D symmetry class. It is demonstrated that such features in the behavior of the open nanowire are retained even in the presence of Coulomb interactions.

Аннотация: Mössbauer spectroscopy is used to study the characteristic features of the crystal lattice dynamics in powdered single crystals of Fe1.75V0.25BO4 warwickite in the temperature range of 4.2–505 K. The Debye temperature (ΘD = 260 K) is determined from the temperature dependence of the probability of the Mössbauer effect in the thin absorber approximation. It is found that the electron delocalization related to the fast electronic transfer between neighboring Fe3+ and Fe2+ cations takes place in the temperature range of 260−505 K. As a result, iron cations exhibiting the mixed valence (Fe2.5+) arise. This process correlates with a change in the elastic properties of the lattice. Such correlation leads to a sharp decrease in the recoil-free absorption of γ‑ray photons by the crystal lattice in the range of 260–400 K.

Аннотация: An exact solution for a model describing the equilibrium behavior of an ensemble of Ising chains with nonmagnetic intersite repulsion of nearest neighbors and an equilibrium distribution of nonmagnetic impurities is obtained using the transfer matrix technique. The possibility of exciting quantum phase transitions using the intersite repulsion parameter in a system is demonstrated. Proximity to the critical points of these transitions has a substantial effect on the temperature dependence of a system’s magnetic susceptibility. © 2016, Allerton Press, Inc.

Аннотация: Here we present an analysis of the evolution of Majorana corner modes realizing in a two-dimensional higher-order topological superconductor (HOTSC) on a square lattice under the influence of local Coulomb repulsion. Both weak- and strong-interaction regimes are studied. It is shown that in the homogeneous system, the weak repulsion widens the region of the topologically nontrivial phase on the phase diagram. The open-boundary effect, resulting in spatial inhomogeneity of the system, leads to the appearance of the ground-state crossover as the repulsion intensity increases. Before the crossover, concentration correlators are C4 symmetric and spin independent, and the corner states have energies that are determined by the overlap of the excitation wave functions localized at the different corners. After the crossover, the concentration correlators are spin dependent and possess the spontaneously broken symmetry. In turn, the corner excitation energy is size independent and defined by the Coulomb repulsion intensity with a quadratic law. In the strong-repulsion regime we derive the effective HOTSC Hamiltonian in the atomic representation and found a rich variety of interactions induced by virtual processes between the lower and upper Hubbard subbands. It is shown that Majorana corner modes still can be realized in the limit of the infinite repulsion, although the boundaries of the topologically nontrivial phase are strongly renormalized by Hubbard corrections.

Аннотация: For superconducting nanowire with the pairing of extended s-type symmetry, Rashba spin-orbit interaction in a magnetic field, the influence of strong intersite charge correlations on single-particle Majorana excitations is analyzed. This problem is investigated on the basis of the density matrix renormalization group numerical method. It is shown that with an increase in the repulsion intensity of electrons located at the neighboring sites, two subbands emerge in the lower Hubbard band of the open system. Based on calculations of the Majorana polarization and degeneracy of the entanglement spectrum, it was found that a topologically nontrivial phase with one edge state survives at the edge of each of the subbands where the concentration of electrons or holes is minimal.

Аннотация: An analytical solution for the spin-wave spectrum of the two-sublattice 1D magnet with SA = SB = 1 and twisting easy planes has been obtained. Such planes are mutually twisted by an angle φ relative to each other. For the case of mutually orthogonal easy planes φ = π/2, the spectrum vs. quasi-momentum dependence has been compared with that of an easy-axis magnet with the easy axis aligned along the line of intersection of the planes. An analogy of the spectra of the models has been shown, indicating the possibility of the effective easy axis anisotropy in easy-plane two-sublattice single-chain magnets.
