Аннотация: The structural phase transition (PT) of elpasolite-type crystal Cs//2NaBiCl//6 is investigated by neutron scattering. At first the acoustic phonon dispersion is measured at room temperature for the high-symmetric directions DELTA , SIGMA , and LAMBDA of the Brillouin zone. The transverse rotary mode is studied for phonon wave vectors q parallel as well as perpendicular to DELTA and the dispersion shows a quasi-two-dimensional behavior of the Cl-octahedra rotation. At cooling down to the PT, this branch shows a softening along DELTA , reaching the lowest energies at the zone center. The PT, which is found to be of weakly first order, seems to be driven and triggered by the ferrorotative octahedra mode.

Аннотация: A possibility to use elastic waves for investigation of inhomogeneities corresponding in size to intermediate order in disordered solids is considered. It is shown that frequency dependencies of phase and group velocities of the elastic waves have some peculiarities which give the possibilities to find the characteristic size of inhomogenities and to determine the parameter of a matter whose fluctuations are most significant for the phenomena under study.

Аннотация: New experimental and theoretical results on the electronic structure and spectral properties of quasiparticles in cuprate oxides are reviewed. It is shown that the electronic structure transforms from antiferromagnetic insulators to optimally doped high-temperature superconductors as the doping level is varied. The experimental methods considered are primarily angular resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES), neutron scattering, and NMR. Two types of electronic structure calculations for data interpretation purposes are considered, namely, exact numerical methods for finite clusters (exact diagonalisation and the quantum Monte Carlo method) and approximate schemes for the infinite lattice. As a result, a coherent unified picture emerges, in which the magnetic polaron of a weakly doped antiferromagnetic lattice transforms into a system of Fermi particles dressed by short-range antiferromagnetic type spin fluctuations. In the region of weakly doped metal compositions, deviations from Fermi-liquid properties are seen, such as the failure of Luttinger's theorem, shadowy photoemission bands, and the spin pseudogap effect in spectral and thermodynamic measurements. The situation in the neighbourhood of the insulator-metal concentration transition is described as least understood.

Аннотация: An approximation dependence of the spontaneous magnetic moment at a site, sigma/sigma(0) - 1 = 0.71(6)delta(2.5(2)), and the antiferromagnet-singlet state phase boundary, J(2)/J(1) = 0.52(3)delta, are determined by the quantum Monte Carlo method in the self-consistent sublattice molecular field approximation for weakly interacting (J(2)) antiferromagnetic chains with spin S = 1/2 and alternating exchange interaction (J(1) +/- delta). The Neel temperature and a number of critical temperatures which could be related with the filling energy of two singlets (Delta S-z = 0) and one triplet (Delta S-z= 1) spin bands, each of which is split by the sublattice field (h(x,y)not equal h(z)) into two subbands, are determined on the basis of the computed correlation radii of the two- and four-spin correlation function, the squared total spin (S-z)(2) with respect to the longitudinal components, the dimerization parameter, and the correlation functions between the nearest neighbors with respect to longitudinal and transverse spin components. On the basis of the Monte Carlo calculations, the critical temperatures and possible energy gaps at the band center are determined for the antiferromagnets CuWO4 and Bi2CuO4 and for the singlet compounds (VO)(2)P2O7 and CuGeO3 , agreeing satisfactorily with existing results, and new effects are also predicted. Аннотация: Heat capacity and thermal expansion of the Ba0.92Ca0.08Ti0.76Zr0.24O3 compound is measured using the methods of adiabatic calorimetry and optic-mechanical dilatometry in the temperature range 100-370 K. Three blurred anomalies on the C-p(T) and alpha(T) dependencies are observed in the temperature range 200-360 K. The results of the studies are discussed together with data on the structure and dielectric properties in the framework of spherical random bond-random field model.

Аннотация: The electronic structure of electron-doped cuprates is discussed in the regions of small and optimal doping. For optimal doping we obtain the parameters from a simple tight-binding analysis by fitting ARPES data, and for small doping we study the band structure by the generalized tight-binding method that takes strong electronic correlations into account explicitly. This method has also reproduced well the ARPES data for small doping. The effective low-energy Hamiltonian is the t-t'-J model with hopping parameters t and t'. We compare both methods and find very good agreement for the value of t while t' is different because it is caused by the different contribution of the short-range spin correlations. Аннотация: This paper is the first approach for analyzing the influence of kappa-distributed particles on the modified two-stream instability (MTSI). It is assumed that the plasma consists of a magnetized Maxwellian electron contribution and unmagnetized kappa-distributed ions drifting across the electrons. Within an electrostatic approximation, the influence of the kappa parameter on the maximum growth rate of the MTSI is evaluated for the special case of parallel drift velocity and wave propagation.

Аннотация: Electron-phonon interaction is sequentially derived from a realistic p-d multiband model for the cuprates under conditions of strong electron correlations. The electronic structure is described using the representation of the Hubbard X operators in a generalized tight-binding method. Dependences of the diagonal and off-diagonal (on lattice sites) matrix elements of electron-phonon interaction on the wavevectors are found for three phonon modes, namely, breathing, apical breathing, and bending modes. The interactions of the breathing and bending modes with electrons are shown to contribute to the formation of kinks in the (0; 0)-(pi; pi) and (0; 0)-(pi; 0) directions, respectively. A low-energy t-J* model with phonons is developed; apart from electron-phonon interaction, it also includes spin-phonon interaction. The elimination of phonons gives an effective electron-electron interaction that depends on the occupation number of a multielectron term and on the carrier concentration due to strong electron correlations. Аннотация: It is shown that dispersions of E-1(LO) and A(1)(LO) modes of InN can be restored in a wide interval of wave vectors by studying impurity-induced first-order Raman scattering as a function of exciting light energy. It is also shown that due to the resonance character of scattering the observed phonon energies correspond to the wave vectors strictly defined by exciting photon energies. The frequencies of E-1(LO) and A(1)(LO) phonons at the Gamma point obtained by extrapolation to zero wave vectors were found to be 604 and 592 cm(-1), respectively.
