Red-
light
-emitting materials, as pivotal components of warm white
light
-emitting diodes (WLEDs), have drawn increasing public focus. Among these, Mn4+-doped red
light
-emitting fluorides have drawn considerable attention when combined with an InGaN chip; however, they suffer from poor water stability under humid conditions. In this work, a novel fluoride red phosphor, Cs30(Nb2O2F9)9(OH)3·H2O:xMn4+ (CNOFM), with good water resistance was synthesized for the first time using a facile co-precipitation method at ambient temperature. Experiments were implemented for the precise analysis of its crystal structure, optical properties, micro-morphology, thermal behavior, and waterproof properties. 6.66% Mn4+-doped CNOFM maintained a stable crystal structure and possessed strong PL intensity located at 633 nm with high color purity of 96%. CNOFM showed better thermal and waterproof stability compared with the commercial K2SiF6:Mn4+ red phosphor. Without any surface modifications, the PL intensity remained at about 83% of the initial value after immersion in water for 60 min, and the mechanism was investigated. Finally, a warm WLED with a CRI of 92.3 and CCT of 3271 K was fabricated using the CNOFM red phosphor.

A novel single-phase white
light
emitting phosphor Ca9La(PO4)5(SiO4)F2:Dy3+ was prepared through traditional high-temperature solid state technology. The crystal structures of Ca9La(PO4)5(SiO4)F2 with or without Dy3+ ions were refined by the Rietveld method. The diffuse reflection spectra, excitation spectra, emission spectra, and decay times were characterized to investigate the photoluminescence properties for application in white
light
-emitting diodes. The results showed that the Ca9La(PO4)5(SiO4)F2:Dy3+ phosphor could efficiently assimilate n-UV
light
and emit blue (∼485 nm) and yellow
light
(∼580 nm), originating from the f-f transitions of Dy3+. The critical Dy3+ quenching concentration (QC) was determined to be about 15 mol%, and the corresponding QC mechanism was verified to be the dipole-dipole interaction. Additionally, the emission colors of all samples were located close to the ideal white
light
region, and the optimal chromaticity coordinates and correlated color temperature (CCT) were determined to be (x = 0.338, y = 0.336) and 5262 K. All the above results indicate that the as-prepared Ca9La(PO4)5(SiO4)F2:Dy3+ phosphor could serve as a promising candidate for white-
light
n-UV-LEDs. © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2016.

In the work, some heterostructures consisting of two different strontium bismuthates from the following series are investigated: Sr2Bi2O5, Sr3Bi2O6 and Sr6Bi2O11. It is shown that the creation of such heterostructures affects both optical and photocatalytic properties. The results obtained are promising for the further development and research of new heterostructures based on two different strontium bismuthates and for studying the characteristics of their photocatalytic activity. © 2019 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland

Аннотация:
The optical absorption spectra of Rb2MnxCd1-xCl4 crystals are experimentally studied in the vicinity of a magnon sideband of the exciton band at a manganese content x ranging from 1.0 to 0.4. Additional absorption bands are observed with an increase in the magnetic structural disorder upon replacement of manganese ions by cadmium ions. An analysis of the evolution of the additional absorption bands in a magnetic field during the spin-flop phase transition and the change in the intensity with variations in the manganese content x demonstrates that these bands are associated with the excitation of the exchange-coupled pairs of manganese ions located in different environments in a plane square lattice. The phase boundary between the antiferromagnetic and spin-flop phases is constructed using the results of optical measurements. The manganese content corresponding to the magnetic percolation point is evaluated. (C) 2003 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".

Аннотация:
We’ve studied the B800 part of Rhodoblastus acidophilus
light
-harvesting complex (LH2) by several quantum chemical techniques based on the density functional theory (DFT) and determined the specific method and a minimal reliable model suitable for further studies of the LH2. In addition to bacteriochlorophyll a molecules, the minimal model includes two α and one β chain amino acids. Within the model, we are able to reproduce the contribution of the B800 ring of nine bacteriochlorophyll a molecules to the near infrared Qy absorption band. We also discuss the use of hybrid DFT calculations for precise energy and optical estimations and DFT-based tight binding (DFTB) method for the large-scale calculations. Crucial importance of Hartree-Fock exchange interaction for the correct description of B800 peak position was shown.

The solution of the problem of all-optical (nonmagnetic) confinement of ultracold electron-ion neutral plasma based on selective action on plasma ions with quantum transition J = 1 -> J = 0 of so-called rectified radiation forces in a strong nonmonochromatic
light
field is suggested. The presented scheme of the three-dimensional dissipative optical trap for plasma allows one to obtain long-lived ultracold plasma with controlled characteristics. The lifetime of the ultracold plasma in such a trap may exceed considerably (by orders of magnitude) the time of free plasma expansion and the lifetime in the (earlier proposed) optical molasses for the ultracold plasma. In the framework of the temporal coupled mode theory we consider bound states embedded in the continuum (BSC) of photonic crystal waveguide as a capacity for
light
storage. A symmetry protected BSC occurs in two off-channel microresonators positioned symmetrically relative to the waveguide. We demonstrate that the symmetry protected BSC captures a fraction of a
light
pulse due to the Kerr effect as the pulse passes by the microresonators. However the amount of captured
light
is found to be strongly sensitive to the parameters of the gaussian
light
pulse such as basic frequency, duration and intensity. In contrast to the above case the BSC resulted from a full destructive interference of two eigenmodes of a single microresonator accumulates a fixed amount of
light
dependent on the material parameters of the microresonator but independent of the
light
pulse. The BSCs in the Fabry-Perot resonator show similar effects. We also show that the accumulated
light
can be released by a secondary pulse. These phenomena pave a way for all-optical storage and release of
light

We consider
light
transmission in X- and T-shaped photonic crystal waveguides which hold nonlinear defect with two resonant dipole modes. By use of the coupled-mode theory and by numerical solution of the Maxwell equations for the transverse-magnetic (TM)
light
mode, we show two stable types of the solutions. The first type has no cross talk, while the second type does owe to nonlinearity of the defect. We show also that direct path transmission processes in the waveguides play an important role for breaking of symmetry.

Аннотация:
The authors compare the effect exerted by copper ions and sulphide copper nanoparticles on flotation of Gorevka deposit sphalerite using potassium n-butyl xanthate and in reagent-less regime. Covelline-like colloid particles 4–8 nm in size, obtained in interaction of copper (II) and sulfide ions in aqueous solutions, are characterized using the methods of dynamic
light
scattering, electron microscopy and diffraction. Sphalerite surface after reaction with copper ions and CuS dispersoid solutions are described by zeta-potential measurements and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It is found that sphalerite flotation after activation with nanoparticles is lower than with copper ion solutions of the same concentrations, and improves with increasing duration of activation and flotation processes. The mechanism of CuS nanoparticles consists in creation of active centers for the collector to attach to, which intensifies the hydrophobic behavior and adsorption of the collector. Moreover, CuS nanoparticles promote formation of a special microrelief of the solid–liquid interface, which ensures rupture of liquid film and attachment of sphalerite particles to air bubbles when they collide.

It is shown that for a nanoparticle diameter of D similar to 5 nm, the internal pressure becomes lower than 3 kbar; for this reason, the structure of hydride nanoparticles coincides with the structure of this hydride in crystalline form. It is found that the phase of partly saturated MgH (x) hydrides (x < 2) must decompose into the phase of pure hcp magnesium and the alpha phase of MgH(2). The frequencies of jumps of hydrogen atoms within the hcp phase of magnesium and in the alpha phase of MgH(2) are calculated; it is shown that slow diffusion of hydrogen in magnesium is due to the large height of potential barriers for motion of hydrogen within MgH(2). To attain high diffusion rates, the structures of Mg(53)Sc and Mg(53)Ti crystals and their hydrides are calculated. It is found that the frequency of jumps of H atoms in Mg(53)ScH(108) near the Sc atoms does not noticeably change as compared to the frequency of jumps in the alpha phase of MgH(2), while the frequency of jumps in Mg(53)TiH(108) near Ti atoms is higher by approximately a factor of 2.5 x 10(6). This means that diffusion in manganese hydride with small admixtures of titanium atoms must be considerably eased. Chemical dissociation of hydrogen molecules on the (0001) surface of hcp magnesium, on the given surface with adjoined individual Ti atoms, and on the surface of a one-layer titanium cluster on the given surface of magnesium is investigated. It is found that dissociation of hydrogen at solitary titanium atoms, as well as on the surface of a Ti cluster, is facilitated to a considerable extent as compared to pure magnesium. This should also sharply increase the hydrogen adsorption rate in magnesium nanoparticles.

A one-dimensional ZrO2/SiO2 photonic crystal with a 4-n -pentyl-4'-cyanobiphenyl (5CB) nematic defect layer was used to investigate the transmission spectra of
light
polarized parallel and perpendicular to the liquid-crystal director at different angles of incidence. The spectra of the photonic crystal were shown to split into four polarized components T-ij at oblique incidence. When the incident angle increased, the bandgap edges and the defect modes shifted towards short wavelengths, while the amplitudes of the defect modes increased for the transverse magnetic polarization and decreased for the transverse electric polarization. The observed discrepancy between the defect mode amplitudes in the center and near the edges of the photonic bandgap was found to be related to the radiation losses inside the defect layer of a non-ideal photonic crystal. The simulated transmission spectra obtained using recurrence relations and taking into account the decay of defect modes are in good agreement with the experimental data.

Аннотация:
The effect of Kerr nonlinearity on the transmission of laser radiation in a one-dimensional photonic crystal has been investigated by the transfer-matrix method, modified to describe nonlinear effects. The crystal under study is a thin-film multilayer structure with a spatial distribution of the refractive index, which makes it possible to eliminate side bands in the transmission spectrum at each side of the photonic band gap and significantly increase the slope of the transmission curve. The transmission spectrum of such a photonic crystal structure has been studied for two opposite directions of laser radiation propagation. The anisotropy of nonlinear transmission is most pronounced near the edge of the photonic crystal band gap, which lies in the near-IR region. The proposed structure, having strong transmission anisotropy and sufficiently low reflection in the forward direction, can operate as an optical diode (analog of an electron diode). Using the data on dispersion of refractive indices in the visible region, the experimental values of the components L-j of the Lorentz tensor have been obtained for uniaxial (crystalline, oriented on a substrate, and stretched) films of conjugated polymers from nanometer to micrometer thicknesses. The dependence of the components L-j on the axial and planar orientations of macromolecules with respect to the optical axis of the film, technology of fabricating the films, and chemical structure of macromolecules has been elucidated. The correlation between the components L-j and the measured parameter. has been determined and the analytical dependence L-j(eta) for films with both types of macromolecular orientation has been established. Аннотация:
The atomic and electronic structure of some endo-, exo-, and endo-exohedral complexes of the fullerene C-60 with various guest atoms and molecules (He-n, H-2, and Li-2) are investigated using semiempirical and nonempirical quantum-chemical methods. The atomic core dynamics is studied by the method of molecular dynamics. It is shown that guest atoms and molecules in fullerene polyhedra acquire an orbital angular momentum due to the correlated motion of nuclei above the low-energy barriers of the potential surface within the carbon polyhedron even at low temperatures (from 4 to 78 K). The emergence of orbital angular momenta of nuclei of guest atoms and molecules is attributed to a change in the contribution of the orbital angular momentum of electrons to the potential surface of the complexes. The motion of Li ions in a polyhedron leads to blurring of the top of the valence band and to the emergence of a charge polarization wave in the carbon polyhedron.
