Аннотация: С использованием электрического поля исследовано пропускание света, прошедшего через самоорганизованные ансамбли нематических доменов. Проведено сравнение модуляционных характеристик ансамблей, содержащих домены с неориентированными и сориентированными в магнитном поле линиями дисклинаций. Показано существенное снижение рассеяния света при ориентации линий. Получены расчетные и экспериментальные зависимости пропускания света от электрического напряжения, прикладываемого к жидкокристаллическим ячейкам. Приведены хорошо совпадающие экспериментальные и рассчитанные из полученных ранее выражений зависимости. Изучены осцилляции на кривых светопропускания. Рассмотрены суперпозиции обыкновенных и необыкновенных волн, распространяющихся через доменные ансамбли и однородные планарные слои жидких кристаллов. Представлены спектральные характеристики ансамблей.
Using an electric field, the transmission of light passing through self-organized ensembles of nematic domains is studied. The modulation characteristics of ensembles containing domains with unoriented and magnetic-field-oriented disclination lines are compared. A significant decrease in light scattering is shown when the lines are oriented. Calculated and experimental dependences of light transmission on the electric voltage applied to liquid crystal cells are obtained. Well agreeing experimental and calculated dependences obtained from the previously expressions are given. Oscillations on light transmission curves are studied. Superpositions of ordinary and extraordinary waves propagating through domain ensembles and homogeneous planar LC layers are considered. The spectral characteristics of the ensembles are presented.

Аннотация: The singularities of the time autocorrelation functions (ACFs) of magnetically diluted spin systems with dipole–dipole interaction (DDI), which determine the high-frequency asymptotics of autocorrelation functions and the wings of a magnetic resonance line, are studied. Using the self-consistent fluctuating local field approximation, nonlinear equations are derived for autocorrelation functions averaged over the independent random arrangement of spins (magnetic atoms) in a diamagnetic lattice with different spin concentrations. The equations take into account the specificity of the dipole–dipole interaction. First, due to its axial symmetry in a strong static magnetic field, the autocorrelation functions of longitudinal and transverse spin components are described by different equations. Second, the long-range type of the dipole–dipole interaction is taken into account by separating contributions into the local field from distant and near spins. The recurrent equations are obtained for the expansion coefficients of autocorrelation functions in power series in time. From them, the numerical value of the coordinate of the nearest singularity of the autocorrelation function is found on the imaginary time axis, which is equal to the radius of convergence of these expansions. It is shown that in the strong dilution case, the logarithmic concentration dependence of the coordinate of the singularity is observed, which is caused by the presence of a cluster of near spins whose fraction is small but contribution to the modulation frequency is large. As an example a silicon crystal with different 29Si concentrations in magnetic fields directed along three crystallographic axes is considered. © 2017, Pleiades Publishing, Inc.

Аннотация: We propose a new type of nonlinear photonic crystal with the lattice representing a harmonic function of the propagation coordinate. This type of spatial modulation of the quadratic nonlinearity is implemented to enhance the second-harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency. The process resembles that realized in periodic nonlinear photonic crystals with rectangular nonlinearity modulation under quasi-phase-matching. Residual periodic oscillations of the second-harmonic intensity were found. Comparison of the unipolar and bipolar modulations showed that they are equivalent with regard to the oscillations. The SHG efficiency in the harmonic lattices is 1.6 times lower compared with the efficiency corresponding to the quasi-phase-matching in periodic nonlinear photonic crystals with rectangular lattices.

Аннотация: Using the exact representation of the Green's function constructed in terms of the Hubbard operators, it has been shown that the kinematic interaction that induces the spin-fluctuation processes in the spatially uniform system of Hubbard fermions leads to significant variations in the spectral intensity A(k, omega) in the Brillouin zone. As a result, the modulation of A(k, omega) appears in the Fermi contour. The sign of the hopping integral within the first coordination sphere is determined by the contour section, where A(k, omega) decreases according to the angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy data.

Аннотация: Two dimensional (2D) nanomaterials like Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) have been drawing a lot of interest due to their excellent nonlinear optical response. In this research we study thermal lens formation in MoS2 nanoflakes dispersion using mode mismatched pump probe configuration. Observation of the pump and probe beam intensity patterns gave visual insights on time evolution of photothermal lens formation. Effect of MoS2 nanoflakes concentration on thermo-optic properties of dispersions were studied using thermal lens spectroscopy technique. Further, a thermo-optic refraction based technique to measure thermal lens size is proposed. Thermal lens region size increased with increase in pump power. The observed thermal lens modulation is applied to demonstrate ‘normally on’ all optical switch which showed excellent modulation of output beam signal by pump beam.

Аннотация: A method for electrically controlled synchronous mode tuning in the transmittance and reflectance spectra of a photonic structure consisting of an asymmetric dielectric Fabry-Perot microcavity and an ultrathin metallic film has been proposed. The excitation of a broadband Tamm plasmon polariton at a metal/Bragg mirror interface is accompanied by the two phenomena opposing one another. Due to the strong absorption induced by the metal, a sufficient rejection level in the reflection of the off-resonant radiation has been obtained in a wide spectral range, which almost coincides with the photonic band gap, while at the cavity mode frequencies the structure becomes transparent for the reflected radiation. This leads to the appearance of a series of narrow resonance peaks in the reflectance spectra that coincide in frequency with the transmittance peaks. Based on the structural transformations in the dual-frequency nematic liquid crystal used as a photonic structure defect, the tuning of the modes corresponding to the extraordinary waves to both the short- and long-wavelength spectral ranges has been implemented.

Аннотация: The light polarization has an effect on spectral properties of a multilayered photonic crystal infiltrated with a bistable chiral-tilted homeotropic nematic liquid crystal (LC) as a defect layer. By varying the direction of polarization of incident, linearly polarized light interacting with the birefringent LC, the tunability of defect modes in wavelength and amplitude and the broadening of the low-transmittance range can be realized in the transmission spectrum. The LC features two optically stable states and two voltage-sustained states. The bistability makes the device of low energy consumption. Such a hybrid can be used as not only a wavelength selector, optical shutter or multichannel switch but also a stopband-tunable device.
