Аннотация: In experiments on second harmonic (SH) generation (SHG), a conical structure of radiation has been observed. In the present study, a non-stationary theory of SH excitation of ultrashort laser pulses with phase modulation has been developed, which explains the properties of such a structure as Cherenkov radiation. Under phase-mismatched interactions, a maximum of the SH spectrum is observed at the Cherenkov angle, which is determined by the ratio of the SH and laser radiation phase velocities. It is shown that tightly focused laser beams are preferred to observe Cherenkov SHG. The SH spectral width depends on the group velocity mismatch and is more complicated on the excited radiation spectrum. The SH energy can be proportional to the crystal length or group delay length depending on their ratio. We also demonstrate that a complex angular distribution of spectral components (an angular chirp) appears within the SH cross-section.

Аннотация: The aim of the current study was to find the most effective spectral modes of irradiation of short-season plants (for example, radish) using a fluorescent LED irradiator with a variable spectrum. The research methodology was based on the species-specific response of plants to the spectral composition of light. Photo-biological experiments were carried out to find effective spectral composition of PAR for cultivating radish communities under stable and variable irradiation modes of electrical lighting. It was shown that under stable irradiation modes, the highest productivity of economically useful radish biomass had been achieved at spectral composition with a maximum of 60 % radiation in the (600–700) nm region in a variable spectral irradiation mode. The variable spectral irradiation mode turned out to be the most effective when the spectral composition with the dominance of red rays was changed to the spectral composition with the dominance of blue rays. There were no significant differences between the best production parameters for stable and variable modes of irradiation of radish plants, which indicates the expediency of choosing the stable spectral mode of irradiation of radish plants as a short-season crop under electrical illumination. The results obtained can be used to select spectral irradiation modes for short-season plants grown under electrical lighting in northern regions and in isolated rooms in various climatic zones using "City-farm" technologies.

Аннотация: The antioxidant properties of selenium nanoparticles coated with arabinogalactan have been studied. The nanoparticles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy and infrared spectroscopy. Arabinogalactan-coated selenium nanoparticles were incubated together with Ehrlich ascitic carcinoma cells and then exposed to microwave radiation. The antioxidant properties of selenium nanoparticles were evaluated using chemiluminescent analysis. The viability of Ehrlich ascitic carcinoma cells under microwave irradiation and incubation with selenium nanoparticles was assessed by flow cytometry. Under conditions of exposure to experimental tumor cells of microwave radiation, the concentration of free radicals in the cells did not change. The effect of arabinogalactan-coated selenium nanoparticles on tumor cells is expressed as an increase in the delay time for the activation of the antioxidant system.

Аннотация: In this research, it was studied the crossover frequencies of the spectra of the real part of the permittivity of moist mineral soils with different clay content from 10 to 64% in the frequency range from 15 MHz to 15 GHz and in the temperature range from 25 to 0 °C. Based on the experimental dependences obtained, empirical models were proposed for the average crossover frequency of the soil of the real part of the permittivity spectra in the range of changes of these frequencies values with temperature changes, as well as for the half-widths of the ranges of changes.

Аннотация: In this Letter, we consider optical bound states in the continuum (BICs) in the infrared range supported by an all-dielectric metasurface in the form of subwavelength dielectric grating. We apply the random forest machine learning method to predict the frequency of the BICs as dependent on the optical and geometric parameters of the metasurface. It is found that the machine learning approach outperforms the standard least square method at the size of the dataset of ≈4000 specimens. It is shown that the random forest approach can be applied for predicting the subband in the infrared spectrum into which the BIC falls. The important feature parameters that affect the BIC wavelength are identified.

Аннотация: The structure of the amorphous fraction and the tensile-compressive stressesin amorphous-crystalline radiation-damaged zircon ZrSiO:U,Th depending on radiation dose and temperature (8–350 K) are investigated according to Raman spectroscopy of Boson peak for the first time. The Boson peak at 60–70 cm-1 associated with localized phonon states in the amorphous fraction (fa) is recorded at low temperatures (T ˂ 100 K) for samples with fa ˂ 30% and over the entire temperature range 8–350 K for fa ˃ 70%. The wider localized states distribution in the latter case is considered as a sign of the amorphous phase structure evolution with an increase in radiation dose. The estimates of anatomic correlation radius based on the Ioffe–Regel criterion are similar to those in glasses, Rc2:0 – 2:3 nm. The monotonic increase in Rc value during heating of zircon with fa ˃ 70% is governed by thermal expansion of the percolating amorphous fraction. The nonmonotonic variations of the Rc value in zircon with fa ˂ 30% is determined by the stresses in the amorphous fraction due to the mismatch in thermal expansion coefficient (CTE) and elastic moduli of the amorphous and crystalline phases depending on temperature; a change in the sign of the crystalline fraction CTE at 30 K is assumed. The Boson peak disappearance at 100 K in zircon with fa ˂ 30% during heating conforms to with the violation of the phonon localization as a consequence of amorphous fraction contraction and partial ordering. The data obtained are important for predicting the thermal and mechanical properties of heterogeneous radiation-damaged materials and nanocomposites.

Аннотация: In this letter, the possibility of synthesizing ultra-wideband (UWB) impulses with a conventional log-periodic dipole antenna (LPDA) mounted on a quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was demonstrated. The formation of impulses using LPDA (bandwidth from 427 MHz to 1.01 GHz) with a duration of 1.9 ns, containing one period of field oscillations, became possible due to compensation of amplitude and phase-frequency distortions introduced by the antenna into radiated and received impulses. Compensation for these distortions was carried out by inverse filtering method after calibrating the antenna-feeder path at various heights UAV hovering above the reference reflector (brass mesh). The conductive carbon elements of UAV, located in the near field of the antenna, are indirectly taken into account during the calibration of antenna-feeder path parameters and do not introduce significant distortions into the generated impulses. The suggested method of synthesizing UWB impulses can find application in environmental remote sensing and can also be used to sharpen fronts of impulses radiated\received with LPDA.

Аннотация: It has been shown that taking account of radiation from a material particle with negative relative permittivity εp that is in a dielectric medium with permittivity εm and experiences the action of an electromagnetic field prevents unlimited growth of particle’s electric dipole moment and its related electric fields if 2εm + εp → 0 and the medium and particle are lossless. Calculated radiation losses are embodied in a correction to the dielectric losses of a real particle. Using polystyrene with a silver nanoparticle showing negative permittivity in the optical range as an example, the behavior of the particle versus particle size has been studied for the permittivity varying in the interval –16 ˂ εp ˂ 16. It has been found that even if the permittivity of the nanoparticle is positive, taking the particle radiation into account considerably improves the accuracy of quasistatic calculation.

Аннотация: In this work, the approach of ultra-wide band pulses synthesizing is proposed using a broadband low-cost log-periodic dipole antenna and a vector network analyzer. Synthesis of UWB pulse (duration of 2.2ns) became possible due to minimization of antenna dispersion by compensation of amplitude and phase-frequency distortions introduced by the antenna into radiated and received pulse. The method had been developed for a down-looking antenna in a monostatic radar configuration. The antenna return loss was calculated using the model of two-port linear network with S-parameters. To calibrate the model, an original amplitude-phase method was proposed that requires measuring the antenna's return loss when the antenna is located only at several heights above the reflecting surface (metal sheet). In this case, the antenna return loss in an empty room does not need to be measured. The proposed method for synthesizing UWB pulses does not require changes in the design of the antenna and can be implemented as an additional software calibration of the antenna-feeder path. The proposed method of UWB pulses synthesizing can be implemented using miniature, low-cost vector network analyzers for environment remote sensing from unmanned aerial vehicle using the UWB impulses.

Аннотация: We numerically investigate the conditions for the laser-induced formation of nanobubbles in aqueous medium around plasmonic nanoparticles (NPs) bound to the malignant cell membranes that is considered as the method of their irreversible damage. We proposed employing the versatile and accessible simulation software as a research tool based on the finite volume method underlying the ANSYS Fluent package and supplemented with our user-defined functions that adapt it to solution of the stated problems. This adaptation allows to verify the model using experimental data for the same conditions. We determined the conditions for the pressure growth on the cell membrane at the initial moment of bubble formation significantly exceeding the threshold of irreversible damage. The model can be used for investigation of hydrodynamic effects accompanying irradiation of plasmonic NPs using both different types of pulsed lasers and ideally absorbing NPs with resonance in the hemoglobin spectral transparency range, as well as to uncover previously unknown effects. They include the conditions for localization of a damaging factor non-affecting the normal cells, the conditions for generation of ultrahigh pressure pulse that enables to damage the cell membrane and precedes formation of thin vapor shell around NPs, which, unlike large bubbles, requires registration using highly sensitive experimental measurements. An extensive overview of key publications summarizing the state-of-art in this area is presented.

Аннотация: We have established numerically the physical pattern and conditions for formation of nanosized bubbles in aqueous medium around biocompatible plasmonic nanoparticles (NPs) selectively bound to the membrane of the malignant cells by means of DNA-aptamers under the action of picosecond laser radiation. The results obtained are based on the finite volume method and hydrodynamic models underlying the ANSYS Fluent package with extended capabilities. We have found the main features and previously unknown dominant factors of the damage effect on the cell membrane at the moment of the bubble nucleation around the plasmonic NPs of different types taking into account the influence of the closely located membrane. Information on the kinetics of spatial distribution of pressure, temperature and the relative proportion of vapor in the 'nanoparticle-membrane-medium' system have been obtained. The attention is drawn to the advantages of using biocompatible, perfectly absorbing core–shell plasmonic NPs for anti-tumor therapy characterized by an increased mechanical effect on malignant cell membranes at lower laser radiation intensity and the spectral position of their plasmon resonance (λ = 700 nm) in the hemoglobin transparency range. This ensures penetration of laser radiation deep into tissues. The paper is provided with an extensive review of key publications and the state-of-art in this area.

Аннотация: High gain antennas based on metasurfaces with modulated surface impedance are a new class of antennas that have appeared in the last decade. They characterized by a simple design, but a relatively complex synthesis procedure. The paper briefly describes the modulated metasurface antennas principle of operation, and gives a specific method for calculating the anisotropic cell impedance tensor based on the calculation of cell eigenmodes in the infinite surface approximation. The method is intended for use at the first stage of the metasurface antenna synthesis, which consists in creating a database of cell tensorial impedances.

Аннотация: We present a simple and affordable technology for producing a thin-film transparent radio-shielding material. The material is a silver micromesh coating produced using a self-organized template. The results of a study of the radio-shielding properties of these coatings in the X and K bands are presented. The micromesh coating with a sheet resistance of 6.8 Ω/sq and integrated optical transmission of 83.6% is characterized by a shielding efficiency of 28.4 dB at a frequency of 8 GHz, which corresponds to a shielding of 99.85% of radiation. Reflection is the main mechanism for shielding radio waves by micromesh coatings.

Аннотация: The behavior of chrysotile Mg3(Si2O5)(OH)4 in water medium at simultaneously high pressure and high temperature was studied by in situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction using a diamond anvil cell. In contrast to previous ‘dry’ experiments, chrysotile in water-saturated conditions undergoes two-phase transitions and exhibits higher thermal stability. At 260 °C / 3.7 GPa the initial chrysotile (phase I) transforms to the ‘chrysotile-like’ phase II, followed by the appearance of the ‘chrysotile-like’ phase III at 405 °C / 5.25 GPa. Phase III is characterized by enlarged interlayer distances, presumably resulting from the H2O intercalation into the interlayer space. During further compression, the ‘chrysotile-like’ phase III is decomposed to the 10 Å phase Mg3(Si4O10)(OH)2·xH2O, the 3.65 Å phase MgSi(OH)6, phase D, forsterite, enstatite and coesite or stishovite. The 3.65 Å phase appears at 8.8 GPa / 500 °C. The series of transformations leads to a water deficiency in the system, restricting the complete transformation from the 10 Å phase to the 3.65 Å phase. These data emphasize the crucial role of excess water in the stabilization of the high-pressure hydrous phases. The present study is the first in situ observation of sequential transformations of hydrous phases: serpentine → 10 Å phase → 3.65 Å phase, important as a potential water transport mechanism to the deep mantle.

Аннотация: A high index dielectric spherical particle supports the high-Q resonant Mie modes that result in a regular series of sharp resonances in the radiation pressure. The presence of a perfectly conducting metal surface transforms the Mie modes into extremely high-Q magnetic bonding or electric antibonding modes for the close approach of a sphere to a surface. We show that an electromagnetic plane wave with normal incidence results in repulsive or attractive resonant optical forces relative to a metal for the excitation of electric bonding or magnetic antibonding resonant modes, respectively. A magnitude of resonant optical forces reaches the order of 1 nN of magnitude for micron-sized silicon particles and a power of light 1mW/μm2 that exceeds the gravitational force by four orders. However, what is the most remarkable is there are steady positions for a sphere between the pulling and pushing forces that give rise to the resonant binding of the sphere to a metal surface.

Аннотация: The coefficient of directed transmittance of a stretched polymer-dispersed liquid crystal film with a defect-free single-domain liquid crystal droplet structure formed by a stretched surfactant-doped film and the polarization degree of forward-transmitted light in the visible and near-infrared spectrum ranges are studied. Results are presented for the 5CB, E7, and E44 nematic liquid crystals. Dependences of the transmission coefficient and polarizing ability of the film on the photodetector field of view are studied. Relationships allowing one to determine film parameters at which the transmission coefficient and polarizing ability of the films simultaneously reach values close to limit ones (0.5 and ±1.0, respectively) are obtained in the Foldy–Twersky and anomalous diffraction approximations.

Аннотация: We have studied the dynamic and static processes occurring in disordered multiparticle colloidal Ag aggregates with natural structure and affecting their plasmonic absorption spectra under pico- and nanosecond pulsed laser radiations, as well as the physical origin responsible for these processes. We have shown that depending on the duration of the laser pulse, the mechanisms of laser modification of such aggregates can be associated both with changes in the resonant properties of the particles due to their heating and melting (picosecond irradiation mode) and with the particle shifts in the resonant domains of the aggregates (nanosecond pulses) which depend on the wavelength, intensity, and polarization of the radiation. These mechanisms result in formation of a narrow dip in the plasmonic absorption spectrum of the aggregates near the laser radiation wavelength and affect the shape and position of the dip. The effect of polydispersity of nanoparticle aggregates on laser photochromic reaction has been studied.

Аннотация: Тонкие нанокомпозитные ZnO/SWCNTs пленки были синтезированы с помощью вакуумной фильтрации и атомно-слоевого осаждения. Были измерены вольт-амперные характеристики образцов пленок. Наосновевольт-амперных характеристик было рассчитано электрическое сопротивление для нанокомпозитных ZnO/ОУНТ пленок.
