Аннотация: The investigation of iron silicides FeSi2, FeSi and Fe5Si3 with the methods of reflection electron energy loss spectroscopy and inelastic electron scattering cross-section spectroscopy was carried out. It is shown that the shape and peak energy position of electron energy loss spectra are almost identical to silicides with different composition, while the amplitude of inelastic electron scattering cross-section spectra decreases with increasing of iron content. The decomposition of inelastic electron scattering cross-section spectra of FeSi2, FeSi and Fe5Si3 to Tougaard peaks is used for unresolved energy loss peaks analysis, determination its energies and identification bulk and surface peaks. The amplitude of fitting peak describing bulk plasmon excitation can be used for identification of the iron silicides with different composition.

Аннотация: PMMA opal crystal was prepared by a simple hybrid method, which includes sedimentation, meniscus formation and evaporation. We investigated three surfaces of this crystal by angle-resolved reflective light spectroscopy and SEM study. The angle-resolved reflective measurements were carried out in the 400–1100 nm range. We have determined the high-quality ordered surface of the crystal region. Narrow particle size distribution of the surface has been revealed. The average particle diameter obtained with SEM was nearly 361 nm. The most interesting result was that reflectivity of the surface turned out up to 98% at normal light incidence. Using a fit of dependences of the maximum reflectivity wavelength from an angle based on the Bragg–Snell law, the wavelength of maximum 0° reflectivity, the particle diameter and the fill factor have been determined. For the best surface maximum reflectivity wavelength of a 0° angle was estimated to be 869 nm. The particle diameter and fill factor were calculated as 372 nm and 0.8715, respectively. The diameter obtained by fitting is in excellent agreement with the particle diameter obtained with SEM. The reflectivity maximum is assumed to increase significantly when increasing the fill factor. We believe that using our simple approach to manufacture PMMA opal crystals will significantly increase the fabrication of high-quality photonic crystal templates and thin films

Аннотация: This work investigates the Si/Fe flux ratio (2 and 0.34) influence on the growth of β-FeSi2 polycrystalline thin films on Si(100) substrate at 630 °C. Lattice deformations for the films obtained are confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). The volume unit cell deviation from that of β-FeSi2 single crystal are 1.99% and 1.1% for Si/Fe =2 and Si/Fe =0.34, respectively. Absorption measurements show that the indirect transition (~ 0.704 eV) of the Si/Fe =0.34 sample changes to the direct transition with a bandgap value of ~0.816 eV for the sample prepared at Si/Fe =2. The absorption spectrum of the Si/Fe =0.34 sample exhibits an additional peak located below the bandgap energy value with the absorption maximum of ~0.36 eV. Surface magneto-optic Kerr effect (SMOKE) measurements detect the ferromagnetic behavior of the β-FeSi2 polycrystalline films grown at Si/Fe =0.34 at T=10 K, but no ferromagnetism was observed in the samples grown at Si/Fe =2. Theoretical calculations refute that the cell deformation can cause the emergence of magnetization and argue that the origin of the ferromagnetism, as well as the lower absorption peak, is β-FeSi2 stoichiometry deviations. Raman spectroscopy measurements evidence that the film obtained at Si/Fe flux ratio equal to 0.34 has the better crystallinity than the Si/Fe =2 sample.

Аннотация: We investigate optical Tamm states supported by a dielectric grating placed on top of a distributed Bragg reflector. It is found that under certain conditions the Tamm state may become a bound state in the continuum. The bound state, in its turn, induces the effect of critical coupling with the reflectance amplitude reaching an exact zero. We demonstrate that the critical coupling point is located in the core of a vortex of the reflection amplitude gradient in the space of the wavelength and angle of incidence. The emergence of the vortex is explained by the coupled mode theory.

Аннотация: В данном сообщении экспериментально подтверждена принципиальная возможность дистанционного измерения профилей влажности в пахотном слое почвы с пригодной для практического применения точностью на основе поляриметрических измерений коэффициента отражения на двух частотах 630 МГц и 5,4 ГГц. Коэффициенты отражения измерялись под углом 35° импульсным методом в ходе естественных циклов испарения и увлажнения пахотного слоя почвы на участке сельскохозяйственного поля, находящегося под паром в районе пос. Минино, Красноярский край. Профили влажности почвы восстанавливались в ходе решения обратной задачи, информативным признаком в которой выступало отношение коэффициентов обратного радарного рассеяния на согласованных линейных поляризациях. Отношение коэффициентов обратного радарного рассеяния было оценено в скалярном приближении метода Кирхгофа в виде отношения коэффициентов отражения по мощности, измеренных на горизонтальной и вертикальной поляризациях. Среднеквадратическое отклонение и коэффициент детерминации между восстановленными и измеренными значениями объёмной влажности в поверхностном слое почвы толщиной 10 см оказались равны 2,2 % и 0,91 соответственно. Исследование показывает перспективность разработки поляриметрических многочастотных радиолокационных систем комбинированного сверхвысокочастотного и дециметрового диапазонов для дистанционного зондирования профилей влажности пахотного слоя почв.This report experimentally confirmed the fundamental possibility of remote sensing of moisture profiles in the arable soil layer with practical acceptable accuracy based on polarimetric measurements of the reflection coefficient at two frequencies of 630 MHz and 5.4 GHz. Reflection coefficients were measured at an angle of 35° by the impulse method, during natural cycles of the evaporation and moistening of soil arable layer in a plot of an agricultural field under steam in the area of Minino village, Krasnoyarsk region. Soil moisture profiles were retrieved in the course of solving the inverse problem, in which cost function was the ratio of the backscattering coefficients taken on coincident linear polarizations. The ratio of the backscattering coefficients was estimated by the scalar Kirchhoff approximation in the form of a ratio of power reflection coefficients, which were measured on horizontal and vertical polarizations. The standard deviation and the determination coefficient between the retrieved and measured soil moisture in the 10 cm topsoil were 2.2 % and 0.91, respectively. The study shows the prospects of developing polarimetric multi-frequency radar systems of combined UHF and SHF bands for remote sensing of moisture profiles in the arable layer of soils.

Аннотация: The effect Rashba spin-orbit coupling has on transmission coefficient through a symmetric system with fermion path nonanalyticity points is illustrated using the example of a regular polygon-shaped chain. It is shown that the current passage through a device is blocked at the critical spin-orbit coupling values determined by the system’s geometry. At the near-critical spin-orbit coupling values, electron transport is possible only in a narrow range of energies.

Аннотация: X-ray photoelectron spectra, reflection electron energy loss spectra, and inelastic electron scattering cross section spectra of iron monosilicide FeSi are investigated. It is shown that the spectra of inelastic electron scattering cross section have advantages over the reflection electron energy loss spectra in studying the processes of electron energy losses. An analysis of the fine structure of the inelastic electron scattering cross section spectra allows previously unresolved peaks to be identified and their energy, intensity, and nature to be determined. The difference between energies of fitting loss peaks in the spectra of inelastic electron scattering cross section of FeSi and pure Fe are more substantial than the chemical shifts in X-ray photoelectron spectra, which indicates the possibility of application of the fine structure of the spectra of inelastic electron scattering cross section for elemental analysis.

Аннотация: The model of a polarization-preserving anisotropic mirror is proposed. The mirror is a plane boundary of a metal–dielectric nanocomposite that consists of silver spheroidal nanoparticles dispersed in a transparent matrix. The dependence of reflection spectra on the shape of the nanoparticles is studied. It is shown that in one region of the spectrum, the mirror preserves the sign of polarization in the reflected light. © 2017, Allerton Press, Inc.

Аннотация: In this paper, with using of semi-empirical model of the reflection coefficient, which is implementing to calculate the brightness temperature of the SMOS spacecraft at 1.4GHz in [1], [2] the soil moisture was retrieved from the reflection coefficients, which were measured by GNSS-reflectometer at a test site on the Yamal Peninsula. The model of reflection coefficient with root-mean square error (RMSE) of 0.04 allows to predict the experimental values of the reflection coefficient and with RMSE of less than 0.09cm3/cm3 allows to retrieve the soil moisture in the layer of 0-6cm

Аннотация: Simple formulas for determination of components of the scattering matrix of a plane electromagnetic wave incident along the normal onto a thin infinite 2D metal lattice with square windows placed at the interface of two media are derived for the first time. Frequency responses (FRs) of this structure calculated with the use of these formulas agree well with responses obtained by the numerical electromagnetic analysis of a 3D model in the case when the lattice period is less than one-half of the wavelength. The capability of efficient control of the FR of the analyzed structure by means of variation in the width of conductors and the lattice period enables application of this lattice for fabrication of a reflector with prescribed reflectivity. Such reflectors at interfaces of dielectric layers are required, for example, in the design of multilayer sufaces radio transparent in a specified frequency band or optical bandpass filters.

Аннотация: An approach to analysis of magneto-optical ellipsometry measurements is presented. A two-layer model of ferromagnetic reflective films is in focus. The obtained algorithm can be used to control optical and magneto-optical properties during films growth inside vacuum chambers.Представлен метод анализа магнито-эллипсометрических измерений. Детально рассматривается двуслойная модель ферромагнитных отражающих пленок. Полученный алгоритм может использоваться для контроля оптических и магнито-оптических свойств пленок в процессе их роста в вакуумных камерах.

Аннотация: We report on a new effect caused by the electron-phonon coupling in a stoichiometric rare-earth antiferromagnetic crystal subjected to an external magnetic field, namely, the appearance of a nonzero gap in the spectrum of electronic excitations in an arbitrarily small field. The effect was registered in the low-temperature far-infrared (terahertz) reflection spectra of an easy-axis antiferromagnet PrFe3(BO3)4 in magnetic fields Bext-c. Both paramagnetic and magnetically ordered phases (including a spin-flop one) were studied in magnetic fields up to 30 T, and two bifurcation points were observed. We show that the field behavior of the coupled modes can be successfully explained and modeled on the basis of the equation derived in the framework of the theory of coupled electron-phonon modes, with the same field-independent electron-phonon interaction constant |W|=14.8 cm-1. © 2017 American Physical Society.

Аннотация: Morphological parameters, reflection spectra, IR absorption spectra, and glass transition temperatures of submicron-sized spheres of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) formed in a water-acetone dispersion medium were studied in comparison with similar spheres obtained in distilled water. Dependence of a shrinkage degree of the submicrospheres on the concentration of acetone in water is studied. Features of the formation of periodic structures based on the water-acetone dispersions of PMMA in four different ways are considered. 2D (photonic crystal films) and 3D (artificial and inverse opals) resonance structures were obtained.

Аннотация: In this work, a numerical-analytical model of reflection coefficient for rough soil surface in wide frequency band was proposed. The field of reflected wave from the rough soil surface is presented as the sum of secondary fields from an infinite set of elementary horizontal scattering plates (with a given average size). The field from each elementary scattering plate is represented as an average field from the result of stochastic interference of an infinite set of coherent elementary sources of secondary waves. The vertical position of the elementary sources is determined by the stochastic height of the soil surface within elementary plate. The case of the coherent component and the total value (coherent+diffuse components) of reflection coefficient is considered. On the basis of the created model of reflection coefficient, a broadband method for simultaneously retrieved the root-mean-square deviation of the stochastic soil surface heights and volumetric soil moisture was developed. The results have a wide application value both for single-frequency and multi-frequency radar and radiometric methods of soil moisture measuring.

Аннотация: A photonic topological insulator is a structure that isolates radiation in the bulk rather than at the edge (surface). Paradoxically, applications of such an insulator focus on its conducting edge states, which are robust against structural defects. We suggest a tiling photonic topological insulator constructed from identical prism resonators connected to each other. The light beam circulates inside the tiling bulk without propagation. However, we experimentally demonstrate a topologically-protected propagating state due to the disconnected faces of the edge resonators. The investigated state is robust against removing or attaching prism resonators. Moreover, the protection principle is phase-free and therefore highly scalable both in wavelength and resonator size. The tiling is suggested for active topological photonic devices and laser arrays.

Аннотация: In this article, a method for the simultaneous measurement of total biomass, vegetation water content, and soil moisture is developed based on ultra-wideband (UWB) nadir observation of the reflection coefficient in the frequency range from 450 MHz to 6 GHz. The proposed method is based on a simple model of plane wave reflection from a vegetation layer with flat boundaries lying on a smooth soil surface. The model does not take into account the phenomena of wave scattering on the vegetation elements and the soil surface roughness. The dielectric constant of the vegetation canopy and soil were calculated based on Ulaby and Mironov dielectric models, respectively. The proposed method was tested using data from PORTOS-93 (INRA) experiments on measuring: total biomass (up to 3.3 kg/m2), water content (43%-89%), height (up to 1m) and volumetric content (up to 0.6-0.8%) of wheat plants, moisture (from 5% to 36%), density and clay fraction content (27%) of the soil. As a result, it was shown, the coefficient of determination (R2) and root-mean-square error (RMSE) appeared to be equal to R2=0.999 and RMSE=2.2% when comparing the original and retrieved values of volumetric soil moisture. The retrieved values of total biomass (vegetation water content) with the coefficient of determination R2=0.999 (0.998) and RMSE=16g/m2 (0.7%) coincide with the original set values. Therewith, the bands from 4 GHz to 6 GHz and from 450 MHz to 1 GHz were used to retrieve the canopy biometric parameters and soil moisture, respectively.

Аннотация: In this work, the possibility of the remote measurement of reflection coefficient in the ultra-wide frequency range from 425 MHz to 1010 MHz from the board of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) using ultra-wide band (UWB) radar was investigated. With this in mind, the antenna-feeder path of UAV UWB radar is calibrated. The calibration process consisted in measuring the reflection coefficient from the brass mesh sheet at various UAV hovering heights. Printed log-periodic dipole antenna was used as transmitter-receiver antenna. As a result, the antenna return loss in an empty-room and the complex antenna response function of the antenna-feeder path of the UAV UWB radar were found. It is shown that the amplitude of the reflected wave from a brass mesh sheet can be measured with root-mean square error (RMSE), RMSE=0.017 1/m and a determination coefficient (R 2 ) of R 2 = 0.967. Therewith the UAV hovering heights measured by the pulse method and the on-board laser rangefinder correlates with each other with R2=0.999 and with RMSE=3.5cm (distance measurement error of the laser rangefinder is ±1cm, surface irregularities of the brass mesh sheet were no more than 1.5cm). Measured in the frequency range from 500 MHz to 900 MHz, the reflection coefficient from fresh lake water by UAV UWB radar with a relative error of no more than 7.5% (practically does not depend on the height of the UAV hovering, approximately from 2.2 m to 5.2 m) coincides with the calculated one by the Stogryn's formulas.

Аннотация: In the present work, we study the Talbot effect under selective reflection of probe radiation at the interface between a dielectric and a layer of resonant atoms, in which a Raman grating is induced. Under such conditions, the interface can operate as a reflective diffraction grating. The cases of one- and two-dimensional gratings are considered. It is shown that the reflection coefficient, with the account of the selectively reflected wave, can be both greater or smaller than the usual Fresnel reflection coefficient. The Talbot effect can be observed for a selectively reflected wave in the near-field diffraction region. The spatial structure of the diffraction patterns essentially depends on the pump field intensity and the Raman detuning.В работе исследуется эффект Тальбота при селективном отражении пробного излучения на границе раздела диэлектрик — слой резонансных атомов, в котором индуцируется рамановская решетка. В таких условиях интерфейс может выступать как отражательная дифракционная решетка. Рассмотрены случаи одномерных и двумерных решеток. Показано, что коэффициент отражения с учетом селективно отраженной волны может быть как больше, так и меньше обычного коэффициента отражения Френеля. Эффект Тальбота можно наблюдать для селективно отраженной волны в ближней дифракционной области. Пространственная структура дифракционных картин существенно зависит от напряженности поля накачки и рамановской отстройки.
