Аннотация:
We have calculated the admittance of a two-dimensional quantum point contact (QPC) using a novel variant of the Wigner distribution function (WDF) formalism. In the semiclassical approximation, a Boltzmann-like equation is derived for the partial WDF describing both propagating and non-propagating electron modes in an effective potential generated by the adiabatic QPC. We show that this quantum kinetic approach leads to the well known stepwise behaviour of the real part of the admittance (the conductance), and of the imaginary part of the admittance (the emittance), in agreement with the latest results derived by Christen and Buttiker, which is determined by the number of propagating electron modes. It is shown that the emittance is sensitive to the geometry of the QPC, and can be controlled by the gate voltage. We have established that the emittance has contributions corresponding to both quantum inductance and quantum capacitance. Stepwise oscillations in the quantum inductance are determined by the harmonic mean of the velocities for the propagating modes, whereas the quantum capacitance is a significant mesoscopic manifestation of the nonpropagating (reflecting) modes.

Аннотация:
Electron transmission in the two-, three-, and four-terminal nanostructures is considered under the influence of a radiation field. The frequency of the radiation field is tuned to the transition between the energy of a bound state and the Fermi energy of the incident electrons. The radiation induced resonant peaks and dips of the electron transport are exhibited for zero and low magnetic fields. It is shown that rotation of the radiation field polarization can effectively control the electron transport into different electrodes attached to the structures because of the symmetry of the structures. The resonant anomalies of the Hall
resistance

Аннотация:
In the magnetic field range Delta H = 8-60 kOe we observed and studied the anomalous oscillations in the magnetic field dependence of the
resistance
and magnetization of single crystals of n-HgCr2Se4. The absence of periodicity in 1/H in the Delta H = 8-20 kOe range can be explained by the non-Fermi-liquid behavior of the electron subsystem and agrees with the theory of the de Haas-van Alphen in systems with intermediate valence. In stronger fields, Delta H = 20-60 kOe, the amplitude of the fundamental harmonic decreases, with the number and amplitude of the higher-order harmonics increasing, As a result, noise is superimposed on the signal as magnetic field strength grows. The temperature dependence of the magnetization is the sum of the monotonic spin-wave contribution and the oscillating part. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics. [S1063-7761(98)02205-7].

Аннотация:
Switching from simple semiconductors to more complicated chemical compositions, we encounter mainly nonstoichiometric or undoped compounds. Combined with other characteristic features of d(f) compounds, this can lead, together with the ordinary scattering by spin disorder in magnetic semiconductors, to an unusual impurity contribution to the total scattering of carriers even in intrinsic semiconductors. A unique scheme for calculating the energy structure of the conduction-band bottom of a ferromagnetic semiconductor and the temperature and field dependences of the impurity contribution to the resistivity is proposed on the basis of a model Hamiltonian. The computed magnetoresistance ratio is negative and has a maximum near T-c. A qualitative comparison is made between the results and the experimental temperature dependences of the Hall mobility and magnetoresistance ratio in the ternary semiconductor n-HgCr2Se4, which is nonstoichiometric with respect to the chalcogen. To identify previously unobserved temperature oscillations of the
resistance
, a careful analysis is made of the low-temperature part of the
resistance

Аннотация:
The transmission of a TE microwave field with a frequency omega through Gamma, T, and X waveguide junctions filled with a ferromagnetic is considered. These junctions are known to have bound states with below-cutoff frequencies. A probing microwave radiation with a frequency Omega applied to the scattering region generates magnetic oscillations with frequencies omega + n Omega (where n = 0, +/-1, +/-2, ...), which resonantly combine with the bound waveguide states. This effect provides for a new method of studying bound waveguide states and efficiently controlling the transmission of microwave radiation. (C) 2001 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".

Аннотация:
We study bound states of the two-dimensional Helmholtz equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions in an open geometry given by two straight leads of the same width which cross at an angle theta. Such a four-terminal junction with a tunable theta can realized experimentally if a right-angle structure is filled by a ferrite. It is known that for theta=90degrees there is one proper bound state and one eigenvalue embedded in the continuum. We show that the number of eigenvalues becomes larger with increasing asymmetry and the bound-state energies are increasing as functions of theta in the interval (0,90degrees). Moreover, states which are sufficiently strongly bound exist in pairs with a small energy difference and opposite parities. Finally, we discuss how the bound states transform with increasing theta into quasibound states with a complex wave vector.

Аннотация:
The temperature evolution of current-voltage characteristics (CVCs) of break junctions made from polycrystalline Y0.75Lu0.25Ba2Cu3O7 and La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 is investigated. The experimental CVCs have hysteretic features that reflect a part of a curve with negative differential
resistance
. The temperature evolution of the CVCs is discussed within the framework of the Kummel-Gunsenheimer-Nicolsky theory for superconductor/normal-metal/superconductor junctions considering multiple Andreev reflections. It is shown that the shape of the CVCs of break junctions is determined by the ratio of the number of "short" and "long" intergrain normal regions in the polycrystalline HTSC under investigation. Аннотация:
The magneto-resistive effect in bulk 123YBCO + CuO and YBCO + Normal metal BaPbO3 composites prepared by fast backing technique has been studied. The composites exhibit broadening of resistive transition in low magnetic fields (less than 200 Oe) for a wide temperature range. Experimental dependences of resistivity versus magnetic field at various transport current densities are presented and discussed. The HTSC based composites exhibit a much higher sensitivity to weak magnetic fields at liquid nitrogen temperature, as compared to that for the "pure" HTSC ceramics. This effect is attractive for possible practical applications and may be used in magnetic field sensor devices. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Аннотация:
The discovery of a novel effect in the transport through a QD spin-dependently coupled to magnetic contacts is reported. For a finite range of source-drain voltages the spin projections of the current cancel exactly, resulting in a completely suppressed output current. The spin down current behaves as one normally expects whereas the spin up current becomes negative. As the source-drain voltage is increased the spin up current eventually becomes positive. Thus, tuning the source-drain voltage such that the spin up current vanishes will result in a perfect spin filter.

The temperature dependence of resistivity and the bulk modulus are calculated on the Kondo lattice, with ring exchange between localized spins, using the spin-polaron and adiabatic approximation. Peak and zero values of the bulk modulus as functions of temperature and concentration are determined below the temperature of the transition to the paramagnetic state. The effects of the nearest order between transverse spin components and a value of the ring exchange between localized spins on magnetoresistivity are estimated.

A simplified model for the current-voltage characteristics of weak links is suggested. It is based on an approach considering the multiple Andreev reflection in a metallic Josephson junction. Magnetoresistance curves R(H) and time relaxation of the residual
resistance
of bulk YBCO + CuO composites have been studied. These composites represent the network of Josephson junctions, where CuO acts as a barrier between YBCO grains. It has been shown that hysteresis of the R(H) dependences is related to the flux trapping within the YBCO crystallites. This flux induces magnetic field in the intergrain media. Time relaxation of the residual
resistance
is caused by relaxation of the magnetization of YBCO grains. The time dependence of the residual
resistance

We consider a transmission through the potential relief created by a split gate constriction (quantum point contact). Simultaneously, dc and ac voltages V-up(t)=V-0+V-1 cos omega t and V-dw(t)=V-0+V-1 cos(omega t+theta) are applied to the gates. We show numerically that the in-phase ac voltages (theta=0) smear the conductance steps of the stationary conductance, while the antiphase ac voltages (theta=pi) only shift the conductance steps. Moreover, computation of currents in probing wires connected cross to the time-periodic quantum point contact reveals a net current for theta not equal 0,pi. This implies that the Schrodinger equation described by the electron transport under the effect of the time-periodic long electrodes is equivalent to the transmission in the crossed effective magnetic and electric fields, where the in-plane magnetic field b similar to theta is directed along the transport axis and the electric field e similar to omega is directed perpendicular to the plane of electron transport. Then the vector exb gives rise to the galvanomagnetic current directed cross to the electron transport.

Аннотация:
The broadening of the resistive transition in magnetic field and isotherms of magnetoresistance of bulk composites Y-Ba-Cu-O + CuO have been studied. These composites exhibit large magneto-resistive effect in a wide temperature range below T (C) due to weakening of Josephson coupling in this system. The broadening of the resistive transition and magnetoresistance are explained well by the Ambegaokar-Halperin (AH) model for phase slip in Josephson junctions. The magnetic field dependence of pinning potential in the intergrain boundaries deduced from AH model found out to be similar to that of critical current of an array of Josephson junctions. The values of pinning energy point out that the large magneto-resistive effect observed in the composites results from flux flow-like processes at the intergrain boundaries.

The hysteresis of magnetoresistance R(H) and relaxation of the remanent
resistance
R-rem with time after magnetic field treatment of HTSC (Y-Ba-Cu-O) + CuO composites are studied. Such a composite constitutes a network of Josephson junctions wherein the nonsuperconducting component (CuO) forms Josephson barriers between HTSC grains. By comparing the experimental R-rem(t) and R(H) dependences, it is shown that the relaxation of the remanent
resistance
is caused by the decreased magnetic field in the intergrain medium due to relaxation of magnetization. The reason is uncovered for the differences between the published values of pinning potentials determined by measuring the relaxation of magnetization or
resistance
and fitting them by the Anderson law.
