   CARBON BOND FORMATION

Аннотация: The reactions between terminal ethynylpyridines, (trimethylsilyl)ethynylpyridines and cyclopentadienyliron dicarbonyl iodide were studied under Pd/Cu-catalyzed conditions to develop a synthetic approach to the σ-alkynyl iron complexes Cp(CO)2Fe–C≡C–R (R = ortho-, meta-, para-pyridyl). Depending on the catalyst and reagents used, the yields of the desired σ-pyridylethynyl complexes varied from 40 to 95%. In some cases the reactions with ortho-ethynylpyridine gave as byproduct the unexpected binuclear FePd μ-pyridylvinylidene complex [Cp(CO)Fe{μ2-η1(Cα):η1(Cα)-κ1(N)-Cα=Cβ(H)(o-C5H4N)}(μ-CO)PdI]. The conditions, catalysts, and reagents that provide the highest yields of the desired σ-pyridylethynyl iron compounds were determined. The methods developed allowed the synthesis of the corresponding σ-4-benzothiadiazolylethynyl complex Cp(CO)2Fe–C≡C–(4-C6H3N2S) as well. Eventually, synthetic approaches to σ-alkynyl iron complexes of the type Cp(CO)2Fe–C≡C–R (R = ortho-, meta-, para-pyridyl, 4-benzothiadiazol-2,1,3-yl) based on the Pd/Cu-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions were elaborated.

Plasmonics -- Aluminum -- Surface lattice resonances
Аннотация: The mechanisms of coupling between the lattice modes of a two-dimensional (2D) array consisting of Al nanoparticles and the localized modes of individual Al nanoparticles have been studied in detail. The results were obtained employing the finite-difference time-domain method (FDTD) and the generalized Mie theory. It was shown that interactions of single particles with 2D lattice modes significantly change the extinction spectra depending on the particle radius and the lattice period. The Rayleigh anomalies of higher orders contribute to formation of hybrid modes resulting in increase of the extinction efficiency in short wavelength range of the spectrum. It was shown that high intensity magnetic modes are excited in aluminum nanoparticles arrays. The patterns of spatial electromagnetic field distribution at the frequencies of hybrid modes have been studied. We note that comprehensive understanding the mode coupling mechanisms in arrays paves the way for engineering different types of modern photonic devices with controllable optical properties.

Аннотация: We study the effect of Coulomb repulsion between oxygen holes on the London penetration depth λ based on the concept of spin-polaron nature of Fermi quasiparticles in cuprates superconductors. It is shown that for the generally accepted values of the parameters of the spin-fermion model, taking into account the Coulomb interaction, both the one-site Hubbard U p and interaction between holes on the next-nearest-neighbor oxygen ions V 2, allows one to achieve a much better agreement of the calculated temperature dependencies of the value λ −2 with the experimental data in La2−x Sr x CuO4 in a wide range around optimal doping.

ferromagnetic and spin-wave resonance -- surface anisotropy constant -- exchange coupling constant -- superlattice
Аннотация: Angular dependences of the microwave absorption spectra of a (CoFe/Cu)N multilayer film have been studied by the ferromagnetic and spin-wave resonance techniques. The critical angle θc indicating the ranges of excitation of uniform and nonuniform spin modes, type of the boundary conditions, and surface anisotropy and exchange coupling constants have been established. It is shown that the accuracy of identification of individual modes in the spectra plays a key role in the analysis of the detected curves.

Аннотация: Strong unidirectional anisotropy in bulk polycrystalline B20 FeGe has been measured by ferromagnetic resonance spectroscopy. Such anisotropy is not present in static magnetometry measurements. B20 FeGe exhibits inherent Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, resulting in a nonreciprocal spin-wave dispersion. Bulk and micron sized samples were produced and characterized. By X-band ferromagnetic resonance spectroscopy at 276 K ± 1 K, near the Curie temperature, a distribution of resonance modes was observed in accordance with the cubic anisotropy of FeGe. This distribution exhibits a unidirectional anisotropy, i.e. shift of the resonance field under field inversion, of KUD = 960 J/m3 ± 10 J/m3, previously unknown in bulk ferromagnets. Additionally, more than 25 small amplitude standing spin wave modes were observed inside a micron sized FeGe wedge, measured at 293 K ± 2 K. These modes also exhibit unidirectional anisotropy. This effect, only dynamically measurable and not detectable in static magnetometry measurements, may open new possibilities for directed spin transport in chiral magnetic systems.

Аннотация: The [(Co0.88Fe0.12)/Cu]N synthetic antiferromagnet has been investigated by the spin wave resonance method over the entire range of angles of an external dc magnetic field to the film surface normal. The investigations have shown that the superlattice under study consists of two exchange-coupled magnetic subsystems, each manifested in the recorded spectra as a series of spin-wave modes. The dependence of the linear region of propagation of a standing spin-wave mode on the sample orientation in an external magnetic field has been established.

negative spin density -- oxyl oxygen -- the FeOOH hydroxide -- the O-O coupling -- water oxidation
Аннотация: The O-O coupling process in water oxidation on the gamma FeOOH hydroxide catalyst is simulated by means of density functional theory using model iron cubane cluster Fe4O4(OH)4. A key reactive intermediate is proposed to be the HO-FeIV-O• oxyl unit with terminal oxo radical. The “initial” vertex FeIII(OH) moiety forms this intermediate at the calculated overpotential of 0.93 V by adding one water molecule and withdrawing two proton–electron pairs. The O-O coupling goes via water nucleophilic attack on the oxyl oxygen to form the O-O bond with a remarkably low barrier of 11 kcal/mol. This process is far more effective than alternative scenario based on direct interaction of two ferryl FeIV-O sites (with estimated barrier of 36 kcal/mol) and is comparable with the coupling between terminal oxo center and three-coordinated lattice oxo center (12 kcal/mol barrier). The process of hydroxylation of terminal oxygen inhibits the O-O coupling. Nevertheless, being more effective for ferryl oxygen, the hydroxylation in fact enhances selectivity of the O-O coupling initiated by the oxyl oxygen.

Аннотация: We investigate optical Tamm states supported by a dielectric grating placed on top of a distributed Bragg reflector. It is found that under certain conditions the Tamm state may become a bound state in the continuum. The bound state, in its turn, induces the effect of critical coupling with the reflectance amplitude reaching an exact zero. We demonstrate that the critical coupling point is located in the core of a vortex of the reflection amplitude gradient in the space of the wavelength and angle of incidence. The emergence of the vortex is explained by the coupled mode theory.
