Аннотация: A design of all-optical diode in L-shaped photonic crystal waveguide is proposed that uses the multistability of single nonlinear Kerr microcavity with two dipole modes. Asymmetry of the waveguide is achieved through different couplings of the dipole modes with the left and right legs of the waveguide. Using coupled mode theory we demonstrate an extremely high transmission contrast. The direction of optical diode transmission can be controlled by power or frequency of injected light. The theory agrees with the numerical solution of the Maxwell equations. (C) 2014 Optical Society of America

Аннотация: We consider light transmission in X- and T-shaped photonic crystal waveguides which hold nonlinear defect with two resonant dipole modes. By use of the coupled-mode theory and by numerical solution of the Maxwell equations for the transverse-magnetic (TM) light mode, we show two stable types of the solutions. The first type has no cross talk, while the second type does owe to nonlinearity of the defect. We show also that direct path transmission processes in the waveguides play an important role for breaking of symmetry.

Аннотация: The Lorentz tensor components L (j) for poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene, 70/30) Langmuir-Blodgett films in the ferroelectric phase are determined experimentally. The results indicate that intralayer dipole-dipole interaction between the segments of the polymer is stronger than interlayer interaction. This conclusion agrees with the absence of the critical film thickness below which ferroelectricity would cease to exist.

Аннотация: Self-assembly of nanoparticles under the action of laser field can be an universal method for the formation of nanostructures with specific properties for application in sensorics and nanophotonics. For prognosis of the self-assembly processes, the model of movement of an ensemble of nanoparticles in a viscous media under the action of laser radiation with the account for interaction of laser-induced polarizations and Brownian dynamics is developed. This model is applied to the investigation of the self-assembly process of a triple of nanoparticles into three-particle structure with a predetermined geometry.Two specific cases of formation of nanostructure from a preliminarily formed pair of particles are studied: either for the pair fixed in space or from the unfixed pair of nanoparticles. The geometry of resulting nanostructures is shown to be determined by the polarization direction of laser radiation and the laser wavelength. Under proper choice of these parameters the formation of structures is shown to be highly efficient. E. g., maximum probability of structures formation is as hig as 36–46% per single laser pulse of 10 ns duration. © 2019 Elsevier B.V.

Аннотация: In this work, the possibility of the remote measurement of reflection coefficient in the ultra-wide frequency range from 425 MHz to 1010 MHz from the board of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) using ultra-wide band (UWB) radar was investigated. With this in mind, the antenna-feeder path of UAV UWB radar is calibrated. The calibration process consisted in measuring the reflection coefficient from the brass mesh sheet at various UAV hovering heights. Printed log-periodic dipole antenna was used as transmitter-receiver antenna. As a result, the antenna return loss in an empty-room and the complex antenna response function of the antenna-feeder path of the UAV UWB radar were found. It is shown that the amplitude of the reflected wave from a brass mesh sheet can be measured with root-mean square error (RMSE), RMSE=0.017 1/m and a determination coefficient (R 2 ) of R 2 = 0.967. Therewith the UAV hovering heights measured by the pulse method and the on-board laser rangefinder correlates with each other with R2=0.999 and with RMSE=3.5cm (distance measurement error of the laser rangefinder is ±1cm, surface irregularities of the brass mesh sheet were no more than 1.5cm). Measured in the frequency range from 500 MHz to 900 MHz, the reflection coefficient from fresh lake water by UAV UWB radar with a relative error of no more than 7.5% (practically does not depend on the height of the UAV hovering, approximately from 2.2 m to 5.2 m) coincides with the calculated one by the Stogryn's formulas.

Аннотация: The singularities of the time autocorrelation functions (ACFs) of magnetically diluted spin systems with dipole–dipole interaction (DDI), which determine the high-frequency asymptotics of autocorrelation functions and the wings of a magnetic resonance line, are studied. Using the self-consistent fluctuating local field approximation, nonlinear equations are derived for autocorrelation functions averaged over the independent random arrangement of spins (magnetic atoms) in a diamagnetic lattice with different spin concentrations. The equations take into account the specificity of the dipole–dipole interaction. First, due to its axial symmetry in a strong static magnetic field, the autocorrelation functions of longitudinal and transverse spin components are described by different equations. Second, the long-range type of the dipole–dipole interaction is taken into account by separating contributions into the local field from distant and near spins. The recurrent equations are obtained for the expansion coefficients of autocorrelation functions in power series in time. From them, the numerical value of the coordinate of the nearest singularity of the autocorrelation function is found on the imaginary time axis, which is equal to the radius of convergence of these expansions. It is shown that in the strong dilution case, the logarithmic concentration dependence of the coordinate of the singularity is observed, which is caused by the presence of a cluster of near spins whose fraction is small but contribution to the modulation frequency is large. As an example a silicon crystal with different 29Si concentrations in magnetic fields directed along three crystallographic axes is considered. © 2017, Pleiades Publishing, Inc.

Аннотация: The paper studies the dynamics of a Bose–Einstein condensate loaded in a 1D parabolic optical lat tice and excited by a sudden shifting of the lattice center. Depending on the initial shift, this dynamics is either the dipole or Bloch oscillations of the atoms. The effects of the dephasing and atom–atom interactions on the above atomic oscillations are discussed.

Аннотация: To establish the existence of dipole glass in the chromium-substituted bismuth pyrostannate solid solutions, the frequency and temperature dependences of the permittivity have been measured in the temperature range of 300–750 K. The field and dynamic dependences of polarization in the temperature range of 80–550 K have been determined. Using the Raman scattering spectra, the absence of inversion center has been established. The maximum of electrical resistance has been found in the vicinity of the dipole moment freezing point. The carrier type has been determined from the thermopower data. The polarization relaxation is shown to be nonexponential. The experimental data are explained within the model of dipole glass in the α- phase and the model of charged crystalline domain walls with the electron-polarization relaxation mechanism above the α–β structural transition.

Аннотация: Magnetic microspheres with nonmagnetic acrylic glass core were fabricated using electroless deposition. There are favorable conditions for magnetic flux closure within each particle. As a result, the dipole-dipole interaction in the powder of such microspheres is reduced drastically. This is the key difference between powders of magnetic microspheres and powders of full magnetic spherical particles witch behavior is significantly affected by the dipole-dipole interaction. The magnetic hysteresis in the cobalt microspheres with nonmagnetic core is significantly large then in the full cobalt particles produced using the same technique.

Аннотация: The time dependence of the NMR multiple quantum spectrum in solids containing methyl groups is investigated. We studied both of types of the nuclear spin systems: namely linking by secular part of the mutual dipole-dipole interaction and linking by effective double quantum Hamiltonian. It is revealed for the first type of systems the rate with the time of the growing up of the second moment when intramolecular interaction is present becomes less in compare with situation when a strong intramolecular interaction is absent. On the contrary for the second type of Hamiltonian the above rate increases.

Аннотация: We calculate the quasistatic electromagnetic density of states for aggregates of touching spheres, in particular, linear chains and computer-generated random fractal aggregates. Multipole moments with orders of up to L=64 are taken into account for random aggregates with the number of particles of up to N=100 and up to L=8000 for linear chains. Extensive comparisons with the dipole approximation and geometrical cluster renormalization method are performed. Extinction spectra are calculated for several metals and black carbon. Long wavelength electromagnetic properties of fractal aggregates are considered in details.

    Enhancement of the magnetoelectric effect in the Bi2Fe4O9/BiFeO3 composite as a result of dipole and migration polarization in mullite / L. V. Udod, S. S. Aplesnin, F. V. Zelenov [et al.] // J. Аннотация: The effect of the size of Bi2Fe4O9 and BiFeO3 nanoparticles on the magnetoelectric interaction in the Bi2Fe4O9/BiFeO3 composite with a percentage ratio of 67/33 has been studied. The electrostriction and electric polarization on electric and magnetic field in wide temperature range has been measured. The hysteresis of the polarization and I?V characteristics has been found. Temperature ranges with activation and hopping types of conductivity have been found. The mechanism of electric polarization and the crossover temperature from dipole polarization to migration polarization at 260 K have been established. Linear and quadratic contributions to the magnetoelectric effect have been found. Below 120 K the linear contribution is an order of magnitude greater than the quadratic contribution and above 240 K the quadratic contribution to the ME effect prevails. Models have been proposed to explain the enhancement of the magnetoelectric effect as a result of the migration polarization in mullite and linear magnetoelectric effect in bismuth ferrite. The correlation of temperatures of the extremum of the temperature coefficient of the electrical resistance and the magnetic phase transition in mullite at 260 K indicates a polaron-type conductivity and a strong electron?phonon interaction. A change in the sign of the electrostriction coefficient upon heating and the compression temperature of the composite in an electric field was found.

Аннотация: Using ferromagnetic resonance method, we performed measurements of two-dimensional periodic arrays of disc-shaped cobalt particles with different diameters a=450 and 900 nm and the distance between them l=2a and 3a with temperature variation in the range T = 140 −300 K. The first derivative of the microwave absorption spectrum was registered. With the increase of T additional peaks on both sides from the main peak that move aside from it, all peaks show an increase of the intensity and a decrease of the width. Dependences of the resonance field on T shows saturation-like behavior with increasing temperature. They move to higher temperatures and show sharper behavior with a increase and l decrease, respectively. An increase of a leads to the intensity decrease and width increase of all three adsorption peaks.

Аннотация: The matrix (5x5) Green's function of magnetoelastic waves in an isotropic magnetoelastic medium taking into account the dipole-dipole interaction has been derived. The imaginary parts of diagonal and off-diagonal elements of the Green's function in the crossing resonance of spin and longitudinal elastic waves has been investigated. It is shown that under changing the angle of wave propagation θ the amplitudes of Green functions change drastically due redistribution of energy between the magnetic and elastic oscillation. Approximate expressions for the dependence of the widths of the gaps in the spectrum on the angle θ have been also derived. © (2015) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Аннотация: The translational and orientation order of arg-cysteamine molecules chemiabsorbed on the Au(111) crystal surface is considered. Couplings between carbon, nitrogen, and hydrogen atoms of the n-alkanethiols are approximated by the Lennard-Jones potential. Moreover, hydrogen bonds between oxygen and nitrogen and dipole-dipole interactions of the dipole moments of different atomic groups are taken into account. It is found that molecules are arranged in a 2x2 lattice and have the total symmetry C(6)xZ(2). The critical temperature of the phase transition to the tilted state T-c1, which breaks the symmetry C-6, is estimated to be extremely high. The spontaneous breakdown of the remaining symmetry Z(2) leads to the twisted state of the molecules and has the critical temperature T-c2=340 K. (C) 2004 American Institute of Physics.
