Аннотация: We study a quantum particle in a tilted honeycomb lattice in the tight-binding approximation. First we discuss the particle eigenstates, i.e., the stationary Wannier-Stark states. These states are proved to be extended states for the rational directions of the static field and localized states for the irrational directions. We find energy bands of the extended states and analyze the localized states. It is shown, in particular, that the localized honeycomb Wannier-Stark states are chaotic states with irregular dependence of the localization length on the static field magnitude. Second we discuss Bloch oscillations of the quantum particle. Irregular Bloch oscillations for irrational directions are observed. В© 2013 American Physical Society.

Аннотация: A bound state in a continuum (BIC) might appear in open quantum dots for the variation in the dot's shape. By means of the equations of motion of the Green's functions, we investigate the effect of strong intradot Coulomb interactions on that phenomenon within the framework of(he impurity Anderson model. The equation that the imaginary part of the poles of the Green's function equals zero yields the condition for BICs. As a result, we show that the Coulomb interactions replicate the single-electron BICs into two-electron ones.

Аннотация: The spectral properties of a one-dimensional photonic crystal bounded by a resonant absorbing nanocomposite layer with the near-zero permittivity have been studied. The problem of calculating the transmittance, reflectance, and absorptance spectra of such structures at the normal and oblique incidence of light has been solved. It is shown that, depending on the permittivity sign near zero, the nanocomposite is characterized by either metallic or dielectric properties. The possibility of simultaneous formation of the Tamm plasmon polariton at the photonic crystal/metallic nanocomposite interface and the localized state similar to the defect mode with the field intensity maximum inside the dielectric nanocomposite layer is demonstrated. Specific features of field localization at the Tamm plasmon polariton and defect mode frequencies are analyzed. © 2018 by the authors.

Аннотация: We consider light transmission in a two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystal waveguide coupled with two identical nonlinear defects positioned symmetrically aside the waveguide. With the coupled mode theory, we show three scenarios for the transmission. The first one inherits the linear case and preserves the symmetry. In the second scenario, the symmetry is broken because of different light intensities at the defects. In the third scenario, the intensities at the defects are equal but phases of complex amplitudes are different. That results in a vortical power flow between the defects similar to the dc Josephson effect if the input power over the waveguide is applied and the defects are coupled. All of these phenomena agree well with computations based on an expansion of the electromagnetic field into optimally adapted photonic Wannier functions in a 2D photonic crystal.

Аннотация: We developed semiclassical method and show that any smooth potential in graphene describing elongated a quantum dot or wire may behave as a barrier or as a trapping well or as a double barrier potential, Fabry-Perot structure, for 1D Schrodinger equation. The energy spectrum of quantum wires has been found and compared with numerical simulations. We found that there are two types of localized states, stable and metastable, having finite life time. These life times are calculated, as is the form of the localized wave functions which are exponentially decaying away from the wire in the perpendicular direction. В© 2012 Elsevier B.V. Аннотация: We investigate the localized surface modes in a structure consisting of the cholesteric liquid crystal layer, a phase plate, and a metal layer. These modes are analogous to the optical Tamm states. The nonreciprocal transmission of polarized light propagating in the forward and backward directions is established. It is demonstrated that the transmission spectrum can be controlled by external fields acting on the cholesteric liquid crystal and by varying the plane of polarization of the incident light.

Аннотация: Regular arrays of plasmonic nanoparticles have brought significant attention over the last decade due to their ability to support localized surface plasmons (LSPs) and exhibit diffractive grating behavior simultaneously. For a specific set of parameters (i.e., period, particle shape, size, and material), it is possible to generate super-narrow surface lattice resonances (SLRs) that are caused by interference of the LSP and the grating Rayleigh anomaly. In this letter, we propose plasmonic structures based on regular 2D arrays of TiN nanodisks to generate high-Q SLRs in an important telecommunication range, which is quite difficult to achieve with conventional plasmonic materials. The position of the SLR peak can be tailored within the whole telecommunication bandwidth (from ≈ 1.26 μm to ≈ 1.62 μm) by varying the lattice period, while the Q-factor is controlled by changing nanodisk sizes. We show that the Q-factor of SLRs can reach a value of 2 × 103, which is the highest reported Q-factor for SLRs at telecommunication wavelengths so far. Tunability of optical properties, refractory behavior, and low-cost fabrication of TiN nanoparticles paves the way for manufacturing cheap nanostructures with extremely stable and adjustable electromagnetic response at telecommunication wavelengths for a large number of applications.

Аннотация: We perform quantum Monte Carlo simulations of the itinerant-localized periodic Kondo-Heisenberg model for the underdoped cuprates to calculate the associated spin correlation functions. The strong electron correlations are shown to play a key role in the abrupt destruction of the quasi-long-range antiferromagnetic order in the lightly doped regime. © 2016 American Physical Society.
