Аннотация: Finite topological quantum systems can undergo continuous metastable quantum phase transitions to change their topological nature. Here we show how to nucleate the transition between ring currents and dark soliton states in a toroidally trapped Bose-Einstein condensate. An adiabatic passage to wind and unwind its phase is achieved by explicit global breaking of the rotational symmetry. This could be realized with current experimental technology.

Аннотация: We analyze the driven Harper model, which appears in the problem of tight-binding electrons in the Hall configuration (normal to the lattice plane magnetic field plus in-plane electric field). The presence of an electric field extends the celebrated Harper model, which is parametrized by the Peierls phase, into the driven Harper model, which is additionally parametrized by two Bloch frequencies, associated with the two components of the electric field. We show that the eigenstates of the driven Harper model are either extended or localized, depending on the commensurability of the Bloch frequencies. This results holds for both rational and irrational values of the Peierls phase. In the case of incommensurate Bloch frequencies we provide an estimate for the wave-function localization length.

Аннотация: The use of carbon nanotubes coated by atoms of transition metals to store molecular hydrogen is associated with the problem of the aggregation of these atoms, which leads to the formation of metal clusters. The quantum-chemical simulation of cluster models of the carbon surface of a graphene type with scandium and titanium atoms has been performed. It has been shown that the presence of five- and seven-membered rings, in addition to six-membered rings, in these structures makes it possible to strongly suppress the processes of the migration of metal atoms over the surface, preventing their clustering.

Аннотация: The λ-shaped line width broadening anomalies of octahedron group vibrations in Rb2KMoO3F3 disordered crystal have been revealed in the wide temperature range by Raman technique. The line width of Mo-O and Mo-F vibrations in this crystal is connected with the lattice disorder. The dependence of ordering degree passing the phase transition point history has been discovered. Wide temperature-line width area is found below structural phase transition where different lattice disorder can be obtained at a given temperature by varying the rate of sample cooling. The current study demonstrates the ability of a dynamic temperature regime to control ordering processes in crystals. © 2014 American Chemical Society.

Аннотация: We propose an optodynamical model of interaction of pulsed laser radiation with aggregates of spherical metallic nanoparticles embedded into host media. The model takes into account polydispersity of particles, pair interactions between the particles, dissipation of absorbed energy, heating and melting of the metallic core of particles and of their polymer adsorption layers, and heat exchange between electron and ion components of the particle material as well as heat exchange with the interparticle medium. Temperature dependence of the electron relaxation constant of the particle material and the effect of this dependence on interaction of nanoparticles with laser radiation are first taken into consideration. We study in detail light-induced processes in the simplest resonant domains of multiparticle aggregates consisting of two particles of an arbitrary size in aqueous medium. Optical interparticle forces are realized due to the light-induced dipole interaction. The dipole moment of each particle is calculated by the coupled dipole method (with correction for the effect of higher multipoles). We determined the role of various interrelated factors leading to photomodification of resonant domains and found an essential difference in the photomodification mechanisms between polydisperse and monodisperse nanostructures.

Аннотация: The resonance motion of the magnetization of thin cylindrical and parallelepiped micro- and nanodots has been studied theoretically and experimentally. Analytical expressions for the external-field dependence of the resonance frequency of the vortex-structure oscillations have been derived taking into account the inertial and damping coefficients. The external-field dependence of the damping parameter has been found theoretically. The influence of the effective mass of a magnetic vortex on its low-frequency dynamics has been discussed.

Аннотация: Perovskite structured materials contain myriad tunable ordered phases of electronic and magnetic origin with proven technological importance and strong promise for a variety of energy solutions. An always-contributing influence beneath these cooperative and competing interactions is the lattice, whose physics may be obscured in complex perovskites by the many coupled degrees of freedom, which makes these systems interesting. Here, we report signatures of an approach to a quantum phase transition very near the ground state of the nonmagnetic, ionic insulating, simple cubic perovskite material ScF3, and show that its physical properties are strongly effected as much as 100 K above the putative transition. Spatial and temporal correlations in the high-symmetry cubic phase determined using energy- and momentum-resolved inelastic x-ray scattering as well as x-ray diffraction reveal that soft mode, central peak, and thermal expansion phenomena are all strongly influenced by the transition.

Ключевые слова (''Своб.индексиров.''): cold atoms in optical lattices--quantum transport--nonlinear dynamics and chaos
Аннотация: We discuss applications of the theory of quantum chaos to one of the paradigm models of many-body quantum physics - the Bose-Hubbard (BH) model, which describes, in particular, interacting ultracold Bose atoms in an optical lattice. After preliminary, pure quantum analysis of the system we introduce the classical counterpart of the BH model and the governing semiclassical equations of motion. We analyze these equations for the problem of Bloch oscillations (BOs) of cold atoms where a number of experimental results are available. The paper is written for nonexperts and can be viewed as an introduction to the field.

Аннотация: Self-assembly of colloidal semiconductor quantum dots controlled solely by laser-induced interaction is demonstrated for the first time. Pairs of CdTe nanoparticles are formed under irradiation with nanosecond pulses at wavelengths 555 or 560 nm. Formation of pairs is justified by corresponding changes of absorption spectra. Conditions of the experiment are in excellent agreement with those predicted by the theory of laser-induced dipole-dipole interaction of QDs. The fraction of QDs assembled into pairs is up to 47%. Аннотация: We consider light transmission in a T-shaped photonic waveguide coupled with two identical symmetrically positioned nonlinear microcavities. We present two types of symmetry breaking. The first one is a result of mixing of the symmetric input wave with antisymmetric bound states in the Fabry-Perot interferometer architecture. Similarly, the second mechanism of the symmetry breaking is the result of mixing the symmetrical input wave with the antibonding bound state in a straight waveguide coupled with two cavities positioned perpendicular to the waveguide. In both cases the mixing is due to nonlinearity. In turn, the symmetry-breaking solutions give rise to nonsymmetrical outputs in the T-shape waveguide. These effects are directly demonstrated by the electromagnetic field solutions which are complimented by coupled mode theory for the light transmission.
