Аннотация: The magnetic and electrical properties and the temperature dependence of these properties of cobalt films prepared at high condensation rates (10(5)-10(6) Angstrom/s) are investigated. Incremented annealing reveals several nonequilibrium states of cobalt in transition from the as-prepared metastable structure to the ordinary hcp structure. The anomalies of the properties are analyzed from the standpoint of the nanocrystalline state of the samples. Model concepts of microcluster formations in the investigated films are also discussed. Аннотация: A simple method of calculating the Wannier-Stark resonances in 2D lattices is suggested. Using this method we calculate the complex Wannier-Stark spectrum for a nonseparable 2D potential realized in optical lattices and analyze its general structure. The dependence of the lifetime of Wannier-Stark states on the direction of the static field (relative to the crystallographic axis of the lattice) is briefly discussed.

Аннотация: The properties of localized electromagnetic modes in a one-dimensional photonic crystal with a structural defect layer were studied. The role of the defect was played by an anisotropic nematic liquid crystal layer. The frequency and the damping factor of defect modes were shown to substantially depend on the defect layer thickness and the orientation of the optical axis of the nematic. The transmission spectra of photonic crystals with one and two lattice defects were studied. Taking into account the special feature of nematic liquid crystals distinguishing them from usual crystals, namely, large permittivity anisotropy, it was shown that the transmission spectrum of the photonic crystal could be controlled by varying the orientation of the optical axis of the nematic, for instance, under the action of an external electric field. Аннотация: The structural and magnetic characteristics of Fe/Si bilayer and multilayer films with nanometer-thick layers obtained by thermal deposition in ultrahigh vacuum have been studied by methods of small-angle X-ray scattering, electron spectroscopy, and magnetometry. It is established that the mechanisms involved in the formation of Fe/Si and Si/Fe interfaces are different. (C) 2005 Pleiades Publishing, Inc.

Аннотация: The temperature dependence of the magnetization of (Fe/Si) (n) multilayer films with nanometer layers is investigated. The films are prepared through thermal evaporation under ultrahigh vacuum onto Si(100) and Si(111) single-crystal substrates. It is revealed that the thickness of individual iron layers in (Fe/Si) (n) multilayer films affects the magnetization and its temperature dependence. The inference is made that this dependence is associated with the formation of a chemical interface at the Fe-Si boundaries. The characteristics of the chemical interface in the (Fe/Si) (n) films are estimated.

Аннотация: The self-propagating high-temperature synthesis in the two-layer and multilayer Pt / Co(001) thin films has been investigated. It is shown that the initiation of the synthesis occurs at temperatures of 770-820 K. After the synthesis in the two-layer film samples, the PtCo(001) disordered phase exhibits an epitaxial growth at the interface between cobalt and platinum layers. In the multilayer Pt/Co(001) thin films, the self-propagating high-temperature synthesis also brings about the formation of the PtCo(001) disordered phase on the MgO(001) surface. Further annealing at a temperature of 870 K for 4 h results in the transition of the PtCo(001) disordered phase to the ordered phase. Rapid thermal annealing of the Pt/Co(001) multilayer films at a temperature of 1000 K leads to the formation of the CoPt3 phase. The magnetic characteristics change in accord with the structural transformations in Pt/Co film samples. (C) 2000 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".

Аннотация: We report our experimental observation of interlayer exchange coupling phenomena in CoO/Cu/Co trilayers with systematic variation of Cu spacer layer thickness as well as temperature. It has been found that there exists a clear indication of nonmonotonically varying oscillatory interlayer exchange coupling. The amplitude of oscillation increases, reaches to the maximum, and decreases with increasing Cu spacer thickness from 1 to 16 atomic layers for all temperature ranges between 70 and 200 K. Аннотация: The results of NMR studies of film structures in a cobalt-germanium system as a function of the cobalt layer thickness are presented. Two phases of cobalt, one is a face-centered cubic phase and the other is presumably a Co-Ge alloy with a weakly ferromagnetic order, have been found to exist. A "dead" layer no more than 2 nm in thickness is formed at the interface.

Аннотация: This paper reports on the results of the investigation of the high-frequency susceptibility of a layered ferromagnetic structure in which, apart from a periodic change in the magnetic anisotropy parameter from layer to layer, this parameter varies along layers according to a random law (the superlattice with two-dimensional phase inhomogeneities). The evolution of the frequency dependence of the imaginary part of the averaged Green's function in the range of the energy gap (band gap) in the spectrum of waves propagating along the superlattice axis due to the change in the relative root-mean-square fluctuations of the phase gamma 2 has been studied at the boundaries of the odd Brillouin zones. It has been found that, for all odd Brillouin zones, the imaginary part of the Green's function exhibits a universal behavior: the peak corresponding to the edge of the band gap with a lower frequency remains unchanged, and the peak corresponding to the edge of the band gap with a higher frequency is smoothed with an increase in the quantity gamma(2). These effects, which were initially revealed at the boundary of the first Brillouin zone of the sinusoidal superlattice, have been explained, as before, by the specific features of the energy conservation laws for the incident and scattered waves in the lattice with two-dimensional inhomogeneities. It has been demonstrated that an increase in the Brillouin zone number leads to a decrease in the value of gamma(2) at which the peak at the edge of the band gap with a higher frequency disappears.
