Аннотация: A method for electrically controlled synchronous mode tuning in the transmittance and reflectance spectra of a photonic structure consisting of an asymmetric dielectric Fabry-Perot microcavity and an ultrathin metallic film has been proposed. The excitation of a broadband Tamm plasmon polariton at a metal/Bragg mirror interface is accompanied by the two phenomena opposing one another. Due to the strong absorption induced by the metal, a sufficient rejection level in the reflection of the off-resonant radiation has been obtained in a wide spectral range, which almost coincides with the photonic band gap, while at the cavity mode frequencies the structure becomes transparent for the reflected radiation. This leads to the appearance of a series of narrow resonance peaks in the reflectance spectra that coincide in frequency with the transmittance peaks. Based on the structural transformations in the dual-frequency nematic liquid crystal used as a photonic structure defect, the tuning of the modes corresponding to the extraordinary waves to both the short- and long-wavelength spectral ranges has been implemented.

Аннотация: The spectroscopic properties of an open large Bunimovich cavity are studied numerically in the framework of the effective Hamiltonian formalism. The cavity is opened by attaching two leads to it in four different ways. In some cases, the transmission takes place via standing waves with an intensity that closely follows the profile of the resonances. In other cases, short-lived and long-lived resonance states coexist. The short-lived states cause traveling waves in the transmission while the long-lived ones generate superposed fluctuations. The traveling waves oscillate as a function of energy. They are not localized in the interior of the large chaotic cavity. In all considered cases, the phase rigidity fluctuates with energy. It is mostly near to its maximum value and agrees well with the theoretical value for the two-channel case.

Аннотация: We consider a semiconductor (AlGaAs/GaAs/AlGaAs) double-barrier resonant tunneling nanostructure (DBRTS), in which the bottom of the potential well is modulated by an external periodic potential V(t) = V-mod cos Omega t. We examine the resonance response to both mono-energetic and spatially localized incident electrons, extending previous results in three ways. First, we study numerically the resonant characteristics in the transmission probabilities as functions of both the electron's energy and the frequency of the external field. We find that new low-frequency resonant peaks appear in the frequency dependence of the transmission probabilities and discuss the origin and possible experimental observation of these peaks. Second, we develop an analytic perturbation theory (valid for small values of the parameter lambda = V-mod/h Omega) describing the processes of absorption and emission of single quanta of the modulation field and show that this perturbative treatment agrees well with the results of numerical calculations in the appropriate regions, up to and including the regime in which the one-quantum processes saturate. Third, for localized (Gaussian) incident wave packets, we show numerically that temporal modulations of the potential well in the DBRTS can induce spatial modulations in the transmitted and reflected wave packets. We develop a simple qualitative picture that explains our results. Finally, we estimate characteristic values of the parameters relevant for possible observation of these effects in laboratory experiments.

Аннотация: We consider the transmission through a nonlinear media in the framework of a two-level nonlinear Fano-Anderson model. The model is realized in photonic crystal waveguide coupled with two off-channel defects with the instantaneous Kerr-type nonlinearity. We reveal a resonance and argue that it is a result of excitement of bound state in the continuum (BSC) by transmitted wave. The resonance induced by BSC is located at the energy of BSC with a width proportional to the amplitude of incident wave. The BSC exists at any distance between energy levels of the two-level nonlinear Fano-Anderson model that is fundamentally different from the linear case.

Аннотация: We consider Aharonov-Bohm oscillations in a mesoscopic semiconductor ring threaded by both a constant magnetic flux and a time-dependent, resonant magnetic field with one or two frequencies. Working in the ballistic regime, we establish that the theory of ''quantum nonlinear resonance'' applies, and thus that this system represents a possible solid-state realization of ''quantum nonlinear resonance'' and ''quantum chaos.'' In particular, we investigate the behavior of the time-averaged electron energy at zero temperature in the regimes of (i) an isolated quantum nonlinear resonance and (ii) the transition to quantum chaos, when two quantum nonlinear resonances overlap. The time-averaged energy exhibits sharp resonant behavior as a function of the applied constant magnetic flux, and has a staircase dependence on the amplitude of the external time-dependent field. In the chaotic regime, the resonant behavior exhibits complex structure as a function of flux and frequency. We compare and contrast the quantum chaos expected in these mesoscopic ''solid-state atoms'' with that observed in Rydberg atoms in microwave fields, and discuss the prospects for experimental observation of the effects we predict.

Ключевые слова (''Своб.индексиров.''): eigenvalues and eigenfunctions--hamiltonians--resonance--rigidity--semiconductor quantum dots--biorthogonal eigenfunctions--open quantum system--phase rigidity--quantum theory
Аннотация: We consider the effective Hamiltonian of an open quantum system, its biorthogonal eigenfunctions phi(lambda), and define the value r(lambda)=(phi(lambda)parallel to phi(lambda))/phi(lambda)parallel to phi(lambda) that characterizes the phase rigidity of the eigenfunctions phi(lambda). In the scenario with avoided level crossings, r(lambda) varies between 1 and 0 due to the mutual influence of neighboring resonances. The variation of r(lambda) is an internal property of an open quantum system. In the literature, the phase rigidity rho of the scattering wave function Psi(E)(C) is considered. Since Psi(E)(C) can be represented in the interior of the system by the phi(lambda), the phase rigidity rho of the Psi(E)(C) is related to the r(lambda) and therefore also to the mutual influence of neighboring resonances. As a consequence, the reduction of the phase rigidity rho to values smaller than 1 should be considered, at least partly, as an internal property of an open quantum system in the overlapping regime. The relation to measurable values such as the transmission through a quantum dot, follows from the fact that the transmission is, in any case, resonant at energies that are determined by the real part of the eigenvalues of the effective Hamiltonian. We illustrate the relation between phase rigidity rho and transmission numerically for small open cavities.

Аннотация: Optical Tamm states localized at the edges of a photonic crystal bounded from one or both sides by a nanocomposite have been studied. The nanocomposite consists of metallic nanoinclusions, which have a spherical or orientationally ordered spheroidal shape and are dispersed in a transparent matrix, and is characterized by the resonant effective permittivity. The transmission, reflection, and absorption spectra have been calculated for waves with longitudinal and transverse polarizations in such structures at the normal incidence of light. The spectral manifestation of Tamm states that is due to the existence of negative values of the real part of the effective permittivity has been analyzed for the visible spectral range. It has been established that the characteristics of Tamm states localized at the edge of the photonic crystal depend strongly both on the concentration of nanoballs in the nanocomposite film and on its thickness. Modes formed by two coupled Tamm plasmon polaritons localized at the edges of the photonic crystal adjacent to two nanocomposite layers have been examined. It has been shown that, in the case of the anisotropic nanocomposite layer adjacent to the photonic crystal, each of two orthogonal polarizations of the incident wave corresponds to a specific frequency of the Tamm state localized at the edge; owing to this property, the transmission spectra of such a structure are polarization sensitive.

Аннотация: We consider an optical response induced by bound states in the continuum (BICs) in arrays of dielectric spheres. By combining the quasi-mode expansion technique with coupled mode theory (CMT), we put forward a theory of the optical response by high-Q resonance surrounding BICs in momentum space. The central results are analytical expressions for the CMT parameters, which can be easily calculated from the eigenfrequencies and eigenvectors of the interaction matrix of the scattering systems. The results obtained are verified in comparison against exact numerical solutions to demonstrate that the CMT approximation is capable of reproducing Fano features in the spectral vicinity of the BIC. Based on the quasi-mode expansion technique, we derived the asymptotic scaling law for the CMT parameters in the vicinity of the Γ-point. It is rigorously demonstrated that the linewidth in the CMT approximation exhibits different asymptotic behavior depending on the symmetry of the BIC.

Аннотация: A method to modulate the defect modes intensity in a multilayer photonic crystal with a nematic liquid crystal layer arranged midmost has been proposed. The various electro-hydrodynamic domain structures (Williams domains, oblique rolls and grid pattern) were formed in the nematic layer under the action of ac electric field. The domains cause a polarization-sensitive light scattering which leads to an anisotropic reduction of the defect modes intensity. Thus by varying the applied voltage, we can tune gradually the transmittance spectrum of photonic crystal. In addition, the spectrum strongly depends on the light polarization direction above threshold voltage. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Ключевые слова (''Своб.индексиров.''): double-bent waveguide--effective non-hermittian hamiltonian--bound--states in the continuum
Аннотация: We consider quantum transmission through double-bend Pi- and Z-shaped waveguides controlled by the finger gate potential. Using the effective non-Hermitian Hamiltonian approach we explain the resonances in transmission. We show a difference in transmission in the short waveguides that is the result of different chirality in Z and Pi waveguides. We demonstrate that the potential selectively affects the resonant widths resulting in the occurrence of bound states in the continuum.
