Аннотация: We report and discuss the grain size dependence of the coercivity and approach magnetization to saturation in the FeCoB ribbons. Instead of expected three-dimensional magnetic correlations for 20 mu m thick ribbon with grain size about 10 nm, the observed behavior could be attributed to the two-dimensional stochastic magnetic domains and two dimensional magnetization ripple. Аннотация: This paper shows that the combination of self-assembled structures in the form of "whiskers" and nanoparticles, which appear as a result of the joint sintering powders YBa2Cu3O7-x and arc nanopowders CuO, leads to a significant increase in the current density and the appearance of the peak effect in strong magnetic fields range. Very high critical current density appears from a complex vortex pinning, where the defects in the form of "whiskers" provides more energy of pinning, and nanoparticles inhibit the flux creep. Regulation of the morphology of such structures can be achieved by simple change of the concentration of nanodispersed additives. It is shown that the optimal additive is CuO equal to 20 wt. %. © 2015 AIP Publishing LLC.

Аннотация: Applications of the extended critical state model are considered. The trapped magnetic field, the penetration field and the field dependence of the critical current density are analysed. The critical current density and the trapped field in superconducting grains depend on the grain size. Asymmetry of the hysteresis curves relative to the M = 0 axis is related to the scale of the current circulation. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Аннотация: A method to determine a value of the effective field in the intergrain medium of a granular superconductor is proposed. The space between superconducting grains is considered to be a Josephson medium where passage of the transport current causes dissipation and the effective field is superposition of external field H and the field induced by magnetic moments of superconducting grains. The method proposed is based on the comparison of hysteresis field dependences of magnetoresistance and magnetization and their relaxation at H=const. By the example of granular YBa2Cu3O7, it is shown that, in the region of weak fields, the effective field in the intergrain medium exceeds by far the external field, i.e., compression of a magnetic flux occurs. Аннотация: In order to clarify the mechanisms in charge of broadening of resistive transition R(T) in magnetic fields of bismuth-based polycrystalline high-T (C) superconductor (HTSC), a comparative study of Bi1.8Pb0.3Sr1.9Ca2Cu3O (x) (BSCCO) and YBa2Cu3O7-delta (YBCO) have been performed. Magnetoresistive effects and irreversibility line obtained from magnetic measurements have been studied. It was established that (1) for YBCO, the smooth part of R(T) dependence unambiguously corresponds to dissipation in the intergrain boundaries for arbitrary magnetic fields; (2) for polycrystalline BSCCO, the smooth part of R(T) dependences correspond to dissipation within intergrain boundary subsystem in the field range H <10(2) Oe only, while standard measurements of R(T) dependences in magnetic field range H > 10(2) Oe reflect the dissipation processes occurring both in intergrain boundary and HTSC grain subsystems; (3) for the high-field range, the contribution from intergrain boundaries of BSCCO can be distinguished from magnetoresistance R(H) dependences obtained at high enough current density on textured samples. It is proposed that various magneto-resistive properties of these classical HTSC systems are due comparatively weak pinning in BSCCO.

Аннотация: Hysteresis and relaxation of magnetoresistance and magnetization of substituted (La0.5Eu0.5)(0.7)Pb0.3MnO3 lanthanum manganite in a low-temperature region (< 40 K) are investigated. It is shown that at these temperature features of the magnetoresistive effect are determined mainly by spin-dependent tunnelling of carriers via insulating grain boundaries. As was demonstrated previously, the grain boundaries may be antiferromagnetically ordered. Therefore, relaxation of magnetization and resistance is determined by the processes of relative orientation of the magnetic moments of ferromagnetic domains neighbouring the antiferromagnetic boundary of ferromagnetic domains under the action of temperature fluctuations. It is shown that relaxation follows the logarithmic law within the time interval t similar to 10(2)-3x10(3) s. A comparison between time evolutions of the magnetic moment and resistance shows that magnetoresistance and magnetization are related as delta R = delta M-n, where n = 2.5. The obtained value n is close to the characteristic value n = 2 for tunnel magnetoresistance of granular ferromagnetic metal/insulator systems.

Аннотация: The behavior of temperature dependences of electrical resistance and magnetoresistance of polycrystalline substituted lanthanum manganite (La0.5Eu0.5)(0.7)Pb0.3MnO3 at low temperatures was thoroughly studied. A broad hysteresis was found in the field dependences of electrical resistance in the low-temperature region. Above 40 K, no hysteresis feature was observed. The temperature T = 40 K corresponds to the temperature of minimum electrical resistance and the temperature T-N to the antiferromagnet-paramagnet phase transition of the material of the intergrain boundaries. In this work we propose a model which explains the observed features of the rho(T) and rho(H) curves at temperatures below T-N by the formation of a network of ferromagnet-antiferromagnet-ferromagnet tunnel contacts. Аннотация: The structural, magnetic, electrical, and thermoelectric properties of GdXMn1-XS (0.01 <= X <= 0.3) solid solutions synthesized for the first time on the basis of alpha-MnS have been studied experimentally in the temperature range 77-1000 K in magnetic fields up to 10 kOe. The synthesized samples are antiferromagnetic semiconductors with an NaCl-type cubic lattice typical of a-MnS. Both concentration (X-c = 0.3) and temperature (T-c = 450 K) metal-insulator phase transitions have been observed. The concentration metal-insulator transition is accompanied by a decrease in resistivity and thermopower by twelve and two orders of magnitude, respectively, with the change in conductivity from p-type to n-type. FERROMAGNETIC IRON
   EXCHANGE

Аннотация: The importance of studying Fe-Mn-C alloys is related to their wide use as constructional materials in mechanical engineering. In this work an effort has been made to elucidate the physical origin of the magnetization in austenitic steels by calculating the electronic structure of grain boundaries. To theoretically investigate the magnetic properties of a crystal of ferromagnetic bcc iron, the wave functions of the iron atom calculated in view of the spin polarization of a core by the Hartree-Fock method with local exchange-correlation potentials have been used as base functions. This has made it possible to optimize the choice of a zero approximation for the description of the electronic states of ferromagnetic iron and to attain good agreement with the experimental values of the magnetic moment (A mu(theor) = 2.23A mu(B), A mu(exp) = 2.218A mu(B)), of the exchange splitting of the crystal term P-4 (Delta(theor) = Delta(exp) = 0.112 Ry), and of the cross-sections of the Fermi surface. A similar approach has been used to investigate the magnetic states of clusters (nanoclusters) based on the method of scattered waves. The approach developed for clusters of the alloy under investigation makes it possible to calculate the alloy magnetic properties in relation to the cluster size for a varied lattice parameter.

Аннотация: The time evolution of the magnetoresistance of bulk YBCO + CuO composites at T = 4.2 K in constant applied magnetic fields was studied to clarify the mechanism of hysteretic behavior of magnetoresistance R(H) of granular HTSC. The composites represent "model" granular HTSC with weakened Josephson coupling between superconducting (YBCO) crystallites. It was found for the first time that on the ascending branch of R(H) dependence, the resistance at H = const decreased with time while on the descending branch, the resistance increased with time in ail applied constant magnetic field. In the range of low magnetic fields (below the minimum point of the descending branch of the R(H) dependence), the resistance at H const decreased again. Similar measurements performed oil pure polycrystalline YBCO at T = 77.4 K have shown that the behavior of evolution of resistance with time is similar to that observed for the composite. This proves the peculiarity of time evolution of maignetoresistance to be a common feature of granular HTSCs. The behavior revealed is well described by the model Of granular HTSC, where the intergrain media is in an effective magnetic field which is the superposition of the external field and the field induced by superconducting grains. The time evolution of resistance reflects the time relaxation of magnetization of HTSC grains due to the intragrain flux Creep Processes. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Аннотация: The broadening of the resistive transition in magnetic field and isotherms of magnetoresistance of bulk composites Y-Ba-Cu-O + CuO have been studied. These composites exhibit large magneto-resistive effect in a wide temperature range below T (C) due to weakening of Josephson coupling in this system. The broadening of the resistive transition and magnetoresistance are explained well by the Ambegaokar-Halperin (AH) model for phase slip in Josephson junctions. The magnetic field dependence of pinning potential in the intergrain boundaries deduced from AH model found out to be similar to that of critical current of an array of Josephson junctions. The values of pinning energy point out that the large magneto-resistive effect observed in the composites results from flux flow-like processes at the intergrain boundaries.

Аннотация: The problem of designing high-resistivity soft magnetic materials based on 3d-metal nanocrystalline films is discussed. To increase the electrical resistivity, nanogranular composites are proposed; they consist of superparamagnetic particles embedded into a dielectric matrix. To obtain the required soft magnetic properties in such composites, it is necessary to realize magnetic ordering due to the effects of magnetic interaction between nanoparticles. As an example, magnetic films that exhibit good high-frequency properties in a range up to several hundreds of megahertz are presented. (C) 2004 MAIK "Nauka / Interperiodica".

Аннотация: Composites Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2Cu3O7 + Y3Fe5O12 modeling random network superconductor-ferrimagnetic-superconductor have been prepared and their transport properties (temperature dependences of resistivity rho and critical current density j(c), current-voltage characteristics) have been studied. Below the superconducting transition temperature T-m the rho(T) dependences exhibit a kink at some temperature T-m. The crossover of current-voltage characteristics from ohmic-like behavior in range T-m/T-c to non-linear one below T-m is observed. Transport properties of the 'benchmark' composites Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2Cu3O7 + Y3Al5O12 are typical for network superconductor-insulator-superconductor Josephson junction. The behavior observed for Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2Cu3O7 + Y3Fe5O12 composites is attributed to peculiarities of supercurrent carriers tunnelling through ferrimagnetic barriers. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. Аннотация: The temperature evolution of the current-voltage characteristic (CVC) of a "break junction" with metal-type conductivity on the polycrystalline La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 high-temperature superconductor is investigated. The CVC exhibits gap peculiarities and hysteresis, which is observed in the region of negative differential resistance. The experimental results are described well in terms of the Kummel-Gunsenheimer-Nicolsky theory for an S-N-S junction (S is a superconductor, N is a normal metal) this theory takes into account multiple Andreev reflection of quasiparticles. It is shown that the shape of the CVC and the existence and the shape of hysteresis are determined by the ratio of "long" and "short" grain boundaries in the polycrystal under investigation. Аннотация: The aim of the work is to elucidate the origin of magnetization presence in austenitic Fe86Mn13C steel after dynamic loading. The observation of microstructures in the region of transition from FCC austenitic Fe86Mn13C steel to FK12 + FK14 type of Frank-Kasper tetrahedral close packed structure is described. We used the methods of optical microscopy, electron microscopy, electron diffraction and X-ray-diffraction to investigate the phase transition region. Changes of local magnetization were estimated by induction method. To explain the magnetization origin of the sample consisting of austenite grains and intergranular layers, which have Frank-Kasper's structure (FK12 + FK14) typical of beta-Fe-Mn, the local electronic structure has been investigated for intergranular layers. The local electron structure of FK12 and FK14 clusters have been simulated by method of self-consistent field to understand the nature of non-zero magnetization of the Fe87Mn13 alloy exposed by shock deformation. It was shown, that numbers of states with upward and downward spins are not equal. Therefore the occurrence of magnetization is possible. (c) 2009 Published by Elsevier Ltd

Soft magnetic materials -- Random magnetic anisotropy model -- Exchange interaction
Аннотация: Coercivity of nanocrystalline magnetic alloys depends on the grain size D according to a power law Hc ∝ Dn with n from 2 to 6. The law Hc ∝ D6 is derived based on the random magnetic anisotropy model and is clearly manifested in experimental studies of some Finemet type alloys. In this letter using computer modeling it is demonstrated that a power-law behavior with the exponent n less than 6 can be due to a grain-size distribution. An increase of grain size variance results in a decrease of the exponent from 6 to the value of about 3.

Аннотация: Granular high-temperature superconductors (HTSs) are characterized by the hysteretic behavior of magnetoresistance. This phenomenon is attributed to the effective field in the intergrain medium of a granular HTS. At the grain boundaries, which are, in fact, weak Josephson couplings, the dissipation is observed. The effective field in the intergrain medium is a superposition of the external field and the field induced by magnetic moments of HTS grains. Meanwhile, analysis of the field width of the R(H) magnetoresistance hysteresis ΔH = Hdec − Hinc at Hdec = const, where Hinc and Hdec are increasing and decreasing branches of the R(H) hysteretic dependence, shows that the effective field in the intergrain medium exceeds by far both the external field and the field induced by magnetic moments of HTS grains. This situation suggests the magnetic flux compression in the intergrain medium because of the small length of grain boundaries, which amounts to ∼1 nm, i.e., is comparable with the coherence length and corresponds to Josephson tunneling in HTS materials. In this work, using the previously developed approach, we examine experimental data on the magnetoresistance and magnetization hysteresis in the granular YBa2Cu3O7 HTS compound in the range from 77 K to the critical temperature. According to the results obtained, the degree of magnetic flux compression determined by the parameter α in the expression for the effective field Beff(H) = H − 4π M(H) α in the intergrain medium remains constant over the investigated temperature range. All the features of the observed evolution of the R(H) hysteretic dependences are explained well within the proposed approach when the expression for Beff(H) contains the experimental M(H) magnetization data and the parameter α of about 20–25. The latter is indicative of the dominant effect of magnetic flux compression in the intergrain medium on the transport properties of granular HTS materials.

Аннотация: Composite materials fabricated by annealing of nonsuperconducting ceramics La2CuO4 and La1.56Sr0.44CuO4 at 910 °C during various time are investigated. Areas of superconducting La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 phase arises at boundaries of contacting nonsuperconducting granules. The volume fraction of the superconducting phase increases with increasing annealing time. A model describing the magnetic and transport properties of the samples at low magnetic fields is constructed. The magnetotransport characteristics of obtained samples at low magnetic fields (∼ 100 Oe) are defined by weak links network formed by superconducting areas. At high fields, behavior of the system is defined by a magnetization of the disconnected superconducting islands. The average size of the superconducting areas has been estimated from an extended critical state model.
