Аннотация: In this study, the problem of strong Coulomb interactions in topological superconducting wire is analyzed by means of the density-matrix-renormalization-group (DMRG) approach. To analyze properties of edge states in the BDI-class structure, a quantity called Majorana polarization is used. From its dependence on wire length and an entanglement-spectrum degeneracy, topological phase diagrams are obtained. The DMRG calculations for the Shubin-Vonsovsky-type model of the wire show the transformation of phases with Majorana single and double modes (MSMs and MDMs, respectively) under the increase of onsite and intersite correlations. In particular, we demonstrate different scenarios including the possibilities of both induction and suppression of the MSMs and MDMs. It is shown that in the strongly correlated regime, the contributions of single-particle excitations to the Majorana-type states significantly decrease at low magnetic fxields. Moreover, the t-J*-V model is derived allowing to study the effective interactions and improve the DMRG numerics. It is found out that in the limiting case of the effective Hamiltonian with infinitely strong onsite repulsion, t model, the topological phases are destroyed. Finally, the ways to probe the MSMs and MDMs via the features of caloric functions are discussed.

Аннотация: We have considered the Aharonov-Bohm ring which contains superconducting wire with Rashba spin-orbit interaction as a bridge connecting the arms. Using the nonequilibrium Green’s function technique and tight-binding approach transport properties of the device were calculated in linear-response regime. It was shown that the in-plane magnetic-field dependence of conductance has two types of resonance features. If the bridge is in topologically trivial phase and its lowest excitation energy is nonzero the conventional Breit-Wigner peaks defined by the arm energy emerge. When the bridge phase changes to the nontrivial one the Fano resonances appear as a result of the interference of Majorana and arm transport channels. The width of such resonances substantially depends on the degree of localization of the Majorana state. Thus, the considered device can be used to detect these states. Additionally, the effect of Aharonov-Bohm phase on the Fano resonances was analyzed.

Аннотация: The magnetoresonance and dielectric properties of a number of crystals of a new family of multiferroics, namely, rare-earth ferroborates RFe(3)(BO(3))(4) (R = Y, Eu, Pr, Tb, Tb(0.25)Er(0.75)), are studied in the submillimeter frequency range (nu = 3-20 cm(-1)). Ferroborates with R = Y, Tb, and Eu exhibit permittivity jumps at temperatures of 375, 198, and 58 K, respectively, which are caused by the R32 -> P3(1)2(1) phase transition. Antiferromagnetic resonance (AFMR) modes in the subsystem of Fe(3+) ions are detected in the range of antiferromagnetic ordering (T < T(N) = 30-40 K) in all ferroborates that have either an easy-plane (Y, Eu) or easy-axis (Pr, Tb, Tb(0.25)Er(0.75)) magnetic structure. The AFMR frequencies are found to depend strongly on the magnetic anisotropy of a rare-earth ion and its exchange interaction with the Fe subsystem, which determine the type of magnetic structure and the sign and magnitude of an effective anisotropy constant. The basic parameters of the magnetic interactions in these ferroborates are found, and the magnetoelectric contribution to AFMR is analyzed.

Аннотация: The quantum Monte Carlo method is used to calculate the susceptibility and pairwise spin-spin correlation functions of chains with alternating ferro (K)- and antiferromagnetic (J)-exchange interactions within the Heisenberg model with spin S=1/2. From the susceptibility, the energy gap between the ground state and excited triplet states is determined for arbitrary ratios K/J. Аннотация: A quantum Monte Carlo study of the anisotropic antiferromagnet with four-spin interaction (K) and with spin S= 1/2 on a square lattice is reported. Temperature dependences of the capacity, susceptibility, spin correlation functions, and correlation length, and field dependences of magnetization are calculated. Phase diagrams of the ground-state antiferromagnet and gap (K0) and gapless (K0) quantum spin liquids are determined in the exchange-anisotropy-four-spin-coupling-constant (K), magnetic-field (H)-temperature (T), and temperature- (T)-K planes for an exchange anisotropy of 0.1 J. Аннотация: Magnetic with anisotropic anti ferromagnetic exchange interactions and special topology of coupling in the square lattice with spins pairs ordering is studied by quantum Monte Carlo method. The antiferromagnetic order is found to be more stable as compared to spin liquid state. Exchange interactions and wave vector of structure modulation for Cu3B2O6 is estimated. Аннотация: The spin density of states of a two-dimensional antiferromagnet in magnetic field having spins-1/2 and interacting with acoustic phonons is investigated in the nonadiabatic approximation using the quantum Monte Carlo method. It is found the gap energy A in the single particle spin excitations spectrum closes at magnetic field Delta similar or equal to H-c, W-ph W-s, where W-ph and W-s are the bandwidths of phonon and spin excitations in antiferromagnet. Аннотация: The Lorentz tensor components L (j) for poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene, 70/30) Langmuir-Blodgett films in the ferroelectric phase are determined experimentally. The results indicate that intralayer dipole-dipole interaction between the segments of the polymer is stronger than interlayer interaction. This conclusion agrees with the absence of the critical film thickness below which ferroelectricity would cease to exist.

Аннотация: We report on a new effect caused by the electron-phonon coupling in a stoichiometric rare-earth antiferromagnetic crystal subjected to an external magnetic field, namely, the appearance of a nonzero gap in the spectrum of electronic excitations in an arbitrarily small field. The effect was registered in the low-temperature far-infrared (terahertz) reflection spectra of an easy-axis antiferromagnet PrFe3(BO3)4 in magnetic fields Bext-c. Both paramagnetic and magnetically ordered phases (including a spin-flop one) were studied in magnetic fields up to 30 T, and two bifurcation points were observed. We show that the field behavior of the coupled modes can be successfully explained and modeled on the basis of the equation derived in the framework of the theory of coupled electron-phonon modes, with the same field-independent electron-phonon interaction constant |W|=14.8 cm-1. © 2017 American Physical Society.

Аннотация: The synthesis of nanoparticles inside microorganisms is an economical alternative to chemical and physical methods of nanoparticle synthesis. In this study, ferrihydrite nanoparticles synthesized by Klebsiella oxytoca bacterium in special conditions were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDS), small-angle X-ray (SAXS), UV-Vis spectroscopy, fluorescence, fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), and molecular docking. The morphology and the structure of the particles were characterized by means of SEM and SAXS. The elemental content was determined by means of the EDS method. The absorption properties of the ferrihydrite nanoparticles were investigated by UV-Vis spectroscopy. The binding mechanism of the biogenic ferrihydrite nanoparticles to Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) protein, studied by fluorescence, showed a static and weak process, combined with FRET. Protein denaturation by temperature and urea in the presence of the ferrihydrite nanoparticles demonstrated their influence on the unfolding process. The AutoDock Vina and UCSF Chimera programs were used to predict the optimal binding site of the ferrihydrite to BSA and to find the location of the hydrophobic cavities in the sub-domain IIA of the BSA structure.

Аннотация: We report on the emergence of new lines in the optical spectrum of the PrFe3(BO3)(4) single crystal at the magnetic ordering temperature. The transitions between singlet crystal-field sublevels of Pr3+ ion with the same transformational properties, strictly forbidden for the trigonal D-3 point symmetry of this ion in PrFe3(BO3)(4), appear below the Neel temperature and grow in intensity as a square of the order parameter. We show that the phenomenon originates from the mixing of wave functions of different Pr3+ sublevels by the Pr-Fe exchange interaction.

Аннотация: We performed inelastic neutron scattering measurements on CuB2O4 with a magnetic field applied in the tetragonal basal plane. The spin dynamics in this cuprate is determined by the interplay of two magnetic Cu2+ subsystems, the magnetic cage with predominant 3d Heisenberg exchange and quasi Id zig-zag chains. The comparison of the dispersion spectra along the chain direction in zero field and under applied field suggests a decoupling of the two magnetic sublattices under field. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V.
