Electrooptic phenomena in the encapsulated liquid crystals (ELC) under alternating electric field are studied. Their transparency nonlinear reaction is investigated experimentally and numerically simulated using proposed model. Dielectric parameters of the model (dielectric relaxation times) are determined from experimental data.

Аннотация:
A scale-invariant theory of resonant Rayleigh scattering by fractal clusters is developed. Our main result is that the scattering cross section is greatly enhanced, because of the presence of very high local fields, which are correlated and strongly fluctuating. Simulations dealing with two examples of fractal structures, namely, random walk and cluster-cluster aggregates, are presented. The numerical results confirm the theoretical predictions of the scaling behavior for both absorption and scattering, and allow us to obtain the corresponding exponents. In addition to the results for scattering, the large scale of the simulations of the present work provides a comprehensive confirmation and a substantial extension of a recent study by Markel, Muratov, Stockman, and George [Phys. Rev. B 43, 8183 (1991)].

Аннотация:
Spatio-temporal dynamics of two short laser pulses propagating in an absorbing medium, which consists of one-and two-photon resonant ii-atoms, is investigated in the adiabatic approximation. We give an analytical solution and compare it with numerical simulations. It is shown that pulses may propagate in a medium, whose thickness is considerably greater than the length of the linear absorption of a single weak probe wave. Finally, full transfer of the probe pulse energy into the coupling pulse takes place. A vector model of the adiabatic interaction of two pulses with three-level atom is proposed.

Аннотация:
We develop a method for the determination of the dynamics of dissipative quantum systems in the limit of large number of quanta N, based on the 1/N-expansion of Heidmann et al. [Opt. Commun. 54, 189 (1985)] and the quantum-classical correspondence. Using this method, we End analytically the dynamics of nonclassical states generation in the higher-order anharmonic dissipative oscillators for an arbitrary temperature of a reservoir. We show that the quantum correction to the classical motion increases with time quadratically up to some maximal value, which is dependent on the degree of nonlinearity and a damping constant, and then it decreases. Similarities and differences with the corresponding behavior of the quantum corrections to the classical motion in the Hamiltonian chaotic systems are discussed. We also compare our results obtained for some limiting cases with the results obtained by using other semiclassical tools and discuss the conditions for validity of our approach.

Аннотация:
Features of the adiabatic population transfer are studied with the spatial evolution of interacting pulses propagating in an optically dense medium of three-level A-atoms taken into account. A self-consistent analytical solution describing the spatial-temporal dynamics of interacting short pulses under the conditions of adiabatic population transfer is constructed in the adiabatic approximation with consideration for the first nonadiabatic correction. Practically complete inversion on a forbidden transition determined by coherent (adiabatic) population transfer is shown to take place over a length of the medium, which may exceed the absorption length of a weak probing pulse in the absence of control radiation on the adjacent transition by several orders of magnitude. Аннотация:
The purely classical counterpart of the scattering probability matrix (SPM) \S(n,m)\(2) of the quantum scattering matrix S is defined for two-dimensional quantum waveguides for an arbitrary number of propagating modes M. We compare the quantum and classical structures of \S(n,m)\(2) for a waveguide with generic Hamiltonian chaos. It is shown that even for a moderate number of channels, knowledge of the classical structure of the SPM allows us to predict the global structure of the quantum one and, hence, understand important quantum transport properties of waveguides in terms of purely classical dynamics. It is also shown that the SPM, being an intensity measure, can give additional dynamical information to that obtained by the Poincare maps.

Аннотация:
Three types of optical magnetic-field induced second harmonic (MFISH) generation are observed in CuB2O4. Unusually sharp and intense electronic transitions in MFISH and linear absorption spectra provide selective access to the two nonequivalent Cu2+ sublattices. The magnetic phase diagram for both sublattices is determined by MFISH. Magnetic structure is dominated by antiferromagnetic order at the 4b site. Sublattice interactions transfer it to the 8d site where it coexists with a discoupled paramagnetic component.

Raman scattering
Аннотация:
Raman scattering spectra and elastic constants of KPb2Cl5 crystals have been studied. The results obtained are interpreted in terms of the ab initio lattice dynamics model taking into account multipole moments of ionic electron envelopes. The experimental results have been found to be in good agreement with numerical simulation; the narrow phonon spectra are shown to be due to a considerable contribution of heavy cations into the eigenvectors of the higher frequency lattice modes.
