In multiband systems, it is possible to explore a variety of competing ground states. Bright examples are the Fe-based pnictides and chalcogenides, which demonstrate metallic, superconducting, and various magnetic phases. Here I discuss only one of the many interesting topics, namely,
spin
fluctuations in metallic multiband systems. I show how to calculate the effect of itinerant
spin
excitations on the electronic properties and formulate a theory of
spin
fluctuation-induced superconductivity. The superconducting state is unconventional and thus the system demonstrates unusual
spin
response with the
spin
resonance feature. I discuss its origin, consequences, and relation to experimental observations. Role of the
spin
-orbit coupling is specifically emphasized.

Аннотация:
It is shown that for the three-band Emery p–d-model that reflects the real structure of the CuO2-plane of high-temperature superconductors in the regime of strong electron correlations, it is possible to carry out a sequence of reductions to the effective models reproducing low-energy features of elementary excitation spectrum and revealing the
spin
-polaron nature of the Fermi quasiparticles. The first reduction leads to the
spin
-fermion model in which the subsystem of
spin
moments, coupled by the exchange interaction and localized on copper ions, strongly interacts with oxygen holes. The second reduction deals with the transformation from the
spin
-fermion model to the φ–d-exchange model. An important feature of this transformation is the large energy of the φ–d-exchange coupling, which leads to the formation of
spin
polarons. The use of this fact allows us to carry out the third reduction, resulting in the t̃ −J̃∗−I-model. Its distinctive feature is the importance of
spin
-correlated hops as compared to the role of such processes in the commonly used t–J*-model derived from the Hubbard model. Based on the comparative analysis of the spectrum of Fermi excitations calculated for the obtained effective models of the CuO2-plane of high-temperature superconductors, the important role of the usually ignored long-range
spin
-correlated hops is determined.

Аннотация:
We present the study of transport properties of a superconducting wire with strong Rashba
spin
-orbit coupling for different orientations of an external magnetic field. Using the nonequilibrium Green's functions in the tight-binding approach the crucial impact of the relative alignment of lead magnetization and the Majorana bound state (MBS)
spin
polarization on the low-bias conductance and shot noise is presented. Depending on this factor the transport regime can effectively vary from symmetric to extremely asymmetric. In the last situation the suppression of MBS-assisted conductance results in current-switch effect allowing the electrical detection of the Majorana fermions.

Аннотация:
Taking into account the real crystalline structure of the CuO2 plane and the strong
spin
-fermion coupling, we study the influence of the intersite Coulomb repulsion between holes on the Cooper instability of the
spin
-polaron quasiparticles in cuprate superconductors. The analysis shows that only the superconducting d-wave pairing is implemented in the whole region of doping, whereas the solutions of the self-consistent equations for the s-wave pairing are absent. It is shown that intersite Coulomb interaction V1 between the holes located at the nearest oxygen ions does not affect the d-wave pairing, because its Fourier transform Vq vanishes in the kernel of the corresponding integral equation. The intersite Coulomb interaction V2 of quasiparticles located at the next-nearest oxygen ions does not vanish in the integral equations, however, but it is also shown that the d-wave pairing is robust toward this interaction for physically reasonable values of V2.

Аннотация:
Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and magnetostriction of the Cu2MnBO5 single crystal have been studied. The EPR spectrum consists of a single Lorentzian line due to the exchange-coupled system of spins of Cu2+ and Mn3+ ions. It has been established experimentally that the g-factor in the paramagnetic region is strongly anisotropic and anomalously small, which is not typical of the exchange-coupled system of spins of Cu2+ and Mn3+ ions. At a temperature of 150 K, the g-factors along the crystallographic a, b, and c axes are 2.04, 1.96, and 1.87, respectively. Such small effective g-factor values can be due to the effect of the anisotropic Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya exchange interaction between the spins of Cu2+ and Mn3+ ions directed along the a axis. The presence of two Cu2+ and Mn3+ Jahn-Teller ions occupying four nonequivalent positions in the crystal is responsible for the absence of the inversion center. It is found that the behavior of the magnetostriction of Cu2MnBO5 is not typical of transition-metal crystals but is closer to the behavior of crystals containing rare-earth ions.

Using the method of diagram techniques for the
spin
and Fermi operators in the framework of the SU(2)-invariant
spin
-fermion model of the electron structure of the CuO2plane of copper oxides, we obtain an exact representation of the Matsubara Green’s function D⊥(k, iω m ) of the subsystem of localized spins. This representation includes the Larkin mass operator ΣL(k, iω m ) and the strength and polarization operators P(k, iω m ) and Π(k, iω m ). The calculation in the one-loop approximation of the mass and strength operators for the Heisenberg
spin
system in the quantum
spin
-liquid state allows writing the Green’s function D⊥(k, iω m ) explicitly and establishing a relation to the result of Shimahara and Takada. An essential point in the developed approach is taking the
spin
-polaron nature of the Fermi quasiparticles in the
spin
-fermion model into account in finding the contribution of oxygen holes to the
spin
response in terms of the polarization operator Π(k, iω m ).

В приближении сильной связи при использовании формализма Ландауэра-Бюттикера исследованы транспортные свойства одномерной цепочки, согнутой в форме квадрата при учете спин-орбитального взаимодействия Рашбы. Обнаружено, что такая геометрия устройства, приводит к возникновению антирезонансов Фано. Показано, что при критической величине спин-орбитального взаимодействия, когда характеристическая длина, связанная с величиной спин-орбитального взаимодействия, совпадает с длиной стороны квадрата, возникает полное отражение от устройства. При величине параметра спин-орбитального взаимодействия близкого к критическому значению прохождение электрона возможно только при энергиях, находящихся в пределах узких интервалов.

Аннотация:
Electric manipulation of magnetic properties is a key problem of materials research. To fulfill the requirements of modern electronics, these processes must be shifted to high frequencies. In multiferroic materials, this may be achieved by electric and magnetic control of their fundamental excitations. Here we identify magnetic vibrations in multiferroic iron borates that are simultaneously sensitive to external electric and magnetic fields. Nearly 100% modulation of the terahertz radiation in an external field is demonstrated for SmFe3(BO3)4. High sensitivity can be explained by a modification of the
spin
orientation that controls the excitation conditions in multiferroic borates. These experiments demonstrate the possibility to alter terahertz magnetic properties of materials independently by external electric and magnetic fields.

-wave resonance technique in the entire concentration range. The surface anisotropy and exchange stiffness constants for the films with a Ni content from 30 to 80 at % have been measured from the experimental standing
spin
wave spectra. The surface exchange
spin
wave penetration depth δ C = 20–30 nm has been determined from the dependences of the surface anisotropy and exchange coupling constants on the Fe20Ni80 film thickness in the range of 250–400 nm.

Аннотация:
The magnetostriction of CuGcO(3) single crystals has been measured in the temperature range from 5 to 16 K in magnetic fields up to 12 T. Giant values of the magnetostrictive strains along the b-axis is observed near the phase transition from the dimerized phase to the high field magnetic phase. The field induced magnetostriction in the antiferromagnetic phase is considerably smaller than in the dimerized phase.

In this paper, we present a comprehensive study of magnetic dynamics in the rare-earth orthoferrite YbFeO3 at temperatures below and above the
spin
-reorientation (SR) transition TSR=7.6K, in magnetic fields applied along the a,b, and c axes. Using single-crystal inelastic neutron scattering, we observed that the spectrum of magnetic excitations consists of two collective modes well separated in energy: 3D gapped magnons with a bandwidth of ∼60meV, associated with the antiferromagnetically (AFM) ordered Fe subsystem, and quasi-1D AFM fluctuations of ∼1meV within the Yb subsystem, with no hybridization of those modes. The
spin
dynamics of the Fe subsystem changes very little through the SR transition and could be well described in the frame of semiclassical linear
spin
-wave theory. On the other hand, the rotation of the net moment of the Fe subsystem at TSR drastically changes the excitation spectrum of the Yb subsystem, inducing the transition between two regimes with magnon and spinonlike fluctuations. At TTSR, the Yb
spin
chains have a well defined field-induced ferromagnetic (FM) ground state, and the spectrum consists of a sharp single-magnon mode, a two-magnon bound state, and a two-magnon continuum, whereas at TTSR only a gapped broad spinonlike continuum dominates the spectrum. In this work we show that a weak quasi-1D coupling within the Yb subsystem JYb-Yb, mainly neglected in previous studies, creates unusual quantum
spin
dynamics on the low-energy scales. The results of our work may stimulate further experimental search for similar compounds with several magnetic subsystems and energy scales, where low-energy fluctuations and underlying physics could be “hidden” by a dominating interaction.

Аннотация:
To study
spin
-dependent transport phenomena in Fe3Si/p-Si structures we fabricated 3-terminal planar microdevices and metal/semiconductor diode using conventional photolithography and wet chemical etching. IaEuro'V curve of prepared diode demonstrates rectifying behavior, which indicates the presence of Schottky barrier in Fe3Si/p-Si interface. Calculated Schottky barrier height is 0.57 eV, which can provide necessary conditions for
spin
accumulation in p-Si. Indeed, in 3-terminal planar device with Fe3Si/p-Si Schottky contact Hanle effect was observed. By the analysis of Hanle curves
spin
lifetime
spin
diffusion length in p-Si were calculated, which are 145 ps and 405 nm, respectively (at T = 300 K).
Spin
lifetime strongly depends on temperature which can be related to the fact that
spin
-dependent transport in our device is realized via the surface states. This gives a perspective of creation of spintronic devices based on metal/semiconductor structure without need for forming tunnel or Schottky tunnel contact.

Using the t–J–V model, self-consistent calculations of the superconducting order parameter described by a linear combination of dx2−y2+idxy and p x + ip y chiral invariants are performed in the phase of coexistence with 120-degree magnetic ordering. Sublattice magnetization is determined in the
spin
-wave approximation for the case of half-filling. A nontrivial topology of the coexistence phase is demonstrated, testifying to the possibility of obtaining edge states and Majorana modes.

-orbit coupling has on transmission coefficient through a symmetric system with fermion path nonanalyticity points is illustrated using the example of a regular polygon-shaped chain. It is shown that the current passage through a device is blocked at the critical
spin
-orbit coupling values determined by the system’s geometry. At the near-critical
spin
-orbit coupling values, electron transport is possible only in a narrow range of energies.

The phase diagram of an antiferromagnet with the
spin
crossover from the high-
spin
to low-
spin
state with S = 0 with increasing external pressure has been calculated with regard to the pressure dependence of the exchange integral. The calculated results are compared with the experimental data on ferropericlase Fe x Mg1 – xO.
