Аннотация: A facile, low-cost, and green route for synthesis of high-induction Fe-Co coatings was developed. Within this approach, three natural reducing agents have been used for deposition of the metal coatings by electroless plating on dielectric and metallic substrates: arabinogalactan, starch, and sucrose. The Fe-Co alloy coatings with Co content from 0 to 94 at.% are nanocrystalline bcc solid solution with carbon additive no more than 2 at%, and pure Co coatings are of hcp structure. The magnetic properties of bcc-based iron-cobalt alloys have been investigated as a function of the atomic composition. A high-saturation magnetization of about 240 emu/g was obtained for Fe70Co30 alloy films deposited onto copper substrate. The local magnetic anisotropy of FeCo alloys increases with a decrease in iron content for all reducing agents. High magnetization close to those in the bulk Fe-Co alloys implies the prospective applications of synthesized Fe-Co coatings as magnetic shield and magnetic sensors.

Аннотация: This paper is devoted to the development of reflection magneto-optical ellipsometry. We have solved the inverse problem for structures with uniaxial optical anisotropy: have determined the reflection coefficients for the ambient-sample interface, and have derived an analytic expression for magneto-optical parameter Q proportional to the magnetization. This expression makes it possible to determine parameter Q exclusively from experimental data obtained using magneto-optical ellipsometry. We present a detailed algorithm for performing experiment on determining the dielectric tensor in the transverse geometry.

Аннотация: The structural and magnetic properties of CoPt-In2O3 nanocomposite films formed by vacuum annealing of the In/(Co3O4 + Pt)/MgO film system in the temperature range of 100–800 °C have been investigated. The synthesized nanocomposite films contain ferromagnetic CoPt grains with an average size of 5nm enclosed in an In2O3 matrix, and have a magnetization of 600 emu/cm3, and a coercivity of 150 Oe at room temperature. The initiation 200 °C and finishing 800 °C temperatures of synthesis were determined, as well as the change in the phase composition of the In/(Co3O4 + Pt)/MgO film during vacuum annealing.Исследованы структурные и магнитные свойства нанокомпозитных пленок CoPt- In2O3, полученных вакуумным отжигом пленочной системы In/(Co3O4 + Pt)/MgO в интервале температур 100 – 800 °C. Синтезированные нанокомпозитные пленки содержали ферромагнитные CoPt-кластеры со средним размером 5 nm, заключенные в матрицу In2O3, и имели намагниченность 600 emu/cm3, коэрцитивную силу 150 Oe при комнатной температуре. Определены температуры начала 200 °C и окончания 800 °C синтеза, а также изменение фазового состава пленки In/(Co3O4 + Pt)/MgO при вакуумном отжиге.

Аннотация: The effect of the fractal dimension of exchange-coupled clusters of magnetic nanoparticles on their magnetization curves is predicted by scaling estimates. These predictions form the basis for the experimental technique used for determining the fractal dimension of nanoparticle clusters from the magnetization curves. We estimate the reliability of determining the dimension by such methods with the help of micromagnetic simulation. It is shown that the effective dimension of magnetic correlation volumes, which is determined from analysis of the magnetization approaching saturation, is in conformity with the dimension of fractal clusters determined from analysis of their morphology. The dimension estimated from analysis of the coercive field on the particle size in a physically natural situation of the dipole-dipole interaction between nanoparticles provides estimates of the cluster dimension, which strongly differs from estimates obtained from analysis of their morphology.

Аннотация: The specific heat, thermal expansion, permittivity, and electrocaloric effect in bulk of BaTiO3 (BT) samples in the form of nano- (nBT-500 nm) and micro- (mBT-1200 nm) ceramics fabricated using spark plasma sintering and solid-state plasma techniques have been investigated. The size effect has been reflected, to a great extent, in the suppression of the specific heat and thermal expansion anomalies and in the changes in the temperatures and entropies of phase transitions and permittivity, and a decrease in the maximum intensive electrocaloric effect: ΔTmaxAD = 29 mK (E = 2.0 kV/cm) for nBT and ΔTmaxAD = 70 mK (E = 2.5 kV/cm) for mBT. The conductivity growth at temperatures above 360 K leads to the significant irreversible heating of the samples due to the Joule heat release in the applied electric field, which dominates over the electrocaloric effect.

Аннотация: It is shown that annealing 550°C of the Fe/Pt bilayer films fabricated by layer-by-layer deposition onto polycrystalline Al2O3 substrates in an atomic ratio of Fe: Pt = 71: 29 leads to the formation of the inplane rotational magnetic anisotropy with the easy axis that can be aligned by magnetic field in any direction in the film plane. The increase in the Pt content in the investigated film system to 50 at % leads to an increase in the anisotropy constant to 6.5 × 106 erg/cm3, which exceeds the value in the Fe71Pt29 sample by a factor of 6. In addition to the rotational anisotropy, the Fe50Pt50 films are characterized by the perpendicular rotational magnetic anisotropy, which is higher than the film shape anisotropy. Therefore, the easy axis in these samples can be aligned by magnetic field in any spatial direction. According to the X-ray and magnetic measurement data, the synthesized samples have a polycrystalline structure consisting of two ordered phases: magnetically hard L10–FePt and magnetically soft L12–Fe3Pt. This gives us grounds to suggest that the rotational magnetic anisotropy originates from the epitaxial intergrowth and exchange coupling of these two phases.

Аннотация: Induced spin polarization of π-conjugated carbon and h-BN low dimensional fragments at the interfaces formed by deposition of pentacene molecule and narrow zigzag graphene and h-BN nanoribbons on MnO2-terminated LSMO(001) thin film was studied using GGA PBE+U PAW D3-corrected approach. Induced spin polarization of π-conjugated low-dimensional fragments is caused by direct exchange with Mn ions of LSMO(001) MnO-derived surface. Due to direct exchange, the pentacene molecule changes its diamagnetic narrow-band gap semiconducting nature to the ferromagnetic semiconducting state with 0.15 eV energy shift between spin-up and spin-down valence bands and total magnetic moment of 0.11 μB. Direct exchange converts graphene nanoribbon to 100% spin-polarized half-metal with large amplitude of spin-up electronic density at the Fermi level. The direct exchange narrows the h-BN nanoribbon band gap from 4.04 to 1.72 eV in spin-up channel and converts the h-BN ribbon semiconducting diamagnetic nature to a semiconducting magnetic one. The electronic structure calculations demonstrate a possibility to control the spin properties of low-dimensional π-conjugated carbon and h-BN fragments by direct exchange with MnO-derived LSMO(001) surface for spin-related applications.

Аннотация: Macroscopic and local magnetic anisotropy of [CoFeB-SiO2/α-Si:H]60 multilayer films was studied in comparison with that for the thick CoFeB-SiO2 granular films. The volume fraction of magnetic component Co40Fe40B20 is ranged from 0.34 to 0.70. In the multilayer films the magnetic layer and silicon spacer thicknesses are 2.5÷4.5 nm and 3.5 nm correspondingly. The magnetization curves and ferromagnetic resonance measurements were used to determining magnetic anisotropy energy constants. The main contribution to the local magnetic anisotropy energy constant is found to be from surface magnetic anisotropy of magnetic granules. It is found that the magnetic percolation point of multilayer films (XC~40) is shifted in comparison with that in granular films (XC~30). Surface magnetic anisotropy energy constants of multilayer films with different X evaluated from the surface modes of spin-wave resonance are in the range 0.5 Ks 0.9 erg/cm2.

Аннотация: We report on the low-temperature magnetic properties of the DyScO3 perovskite, which were characterized by means of single crystal and powder neutron scattering, and by magnetization measurements. Below TN = 3.15 K, Dy3+ moments form an antiferromagnetic structure with an easy axis of magnetization lying in the ab plane. The magnetic moments are inclined at an angle of ∼ +/- 28 degrees to the b axis. We show that the ground-state Kramers doublet of Dy3+ is made up of primarily |+/- 15/2 ⟩ eigenvectors and well separated by a crystal field from the first excited state at E1 = 24.9 meV. This leads to an extreme Ising single-ion anisotropy, M⊥/M∥∼ 0.05. The transverse magnetic fluctuations, which are proportional to M⊥2/M∥2, are suppressed, and only moment fluctuations along the local Ising direction are allowed. We also found that the Dy-Dy dipolar interactions along the crystallographic c axis are two to four times larger than in-plane interactions.

Аннотация: The dimension D of a polycrystalline film and the optical anisotropy m = εz/εx of uniaxial crystallites with the principal components εx = εy and εz of the tensor of the dielectric constant have been shown to produce a strong influence on the effective dielectric constant εD* and the effective refractive index nD* = (εD*)1/2 of the film in the optical transparency region, as well as on the boundaries of the intervals BDl ≤ εD* ≤ BDu. The intervals Δ2(m) = B2l–B2u and Δ3(m) = B3l–B3u are separated by a gap for m in the range 1 m 2, whereas the theoretical dependence ε2*(m) is separated by a gap from the interval Δ3(m) for m in the range 1 m 4. This is confirmed by a comparison of the experimental (noP) and theoretical (nD*) ordinary refractive indices for uniaxial polycrystalline films of the conjugated polymer poly(p-phenylene vinylene) (PPV) with uniaxial crystallites and appropriate values of m. In the visible transparency region of the PPV films with a change in m(λ) in the range 2 m(λ) 3 due to the dependence of the components εx,z(λ) on the light wavelength λ, the refractive indices noP2(λ) 3 near the electronic absorption band of the crystallites, the values of εoP(λ) lie in the region of the overlap of the intervals Δ2(m) and Δ3(m). The boundaries mc of the range 1 m mc are determined, for which the interval Δ2(m) is separated by a gap from the dependences ε3*(m) corresponding to the effective medium theory with spherical crystallites and hierarchical models of a polycrystal, as well as from the proposed new dependence ε3*(m).

Аннотация: Various manifestations of the exchange interaction effects in magnetization curves of the CoPt nanostructured particles are demonstrated and discussed. The inter-grain exchange constant A in the sponge-like agglomerates of crystallites is estimated as A=(7±1) pJ/m from the approach magnetization to saturation curves that is in good agreement with A=(6.6±0.5) pJ/m obtained from Bloch T 3/2 law. The fractal dimensionality of the exchange coupled crystallite system in the porous media of the disordered CoPt alloy d=(2.60±0.18) was estimated from the approach magnetization to saturation curve. Coercive force decreases with temperature as Hc~T 3/2 which is assumed to be a consequence of the magnetic anisotropy energy reduction due to the thermal spin wave excitations in the investigated CoPt particles. © 2015 Elsevier B.V. Межзеренная обменная константа А в агломератах губчатой структуры кристаллитов оценивается как /A/=(7±1) pJ/m из кривых приближения намагниченности к насыщению, это значение находится в хорошем согласии с /A/=(6.6±0.5) pJ/m, полученным из закона /T/. /2 Блоха. Размерность фрактала обменно-соединенных кристаллических систем в пористой среды неупорядоченного сплава CoPt /d/=(2.60±0.18) оценивалась из кривых приближения намагниченности к насыщению. Коэрцитивная сила уменьшается с температурой по закону /H_c /~/T/. /2 , который, как предполагается, есть следствие уменьшения энергии магнитной анизотропии из-за теплового возбуждения спиновых волн в изучаемых частицах CoPt.

Аннотация: Indium-oxide films are synthesized by the autowave-oxidation reaction. It is shown that, upon exposure to optical radiation, the resistance of the films sharply decreases and the maximal relative change in the resistance is 52% at room temperature. Two resistance relaxation rates after termination of the irradiation, 15 Omega s(-1) during the first 30 s and 7 Omega s(-1) over the remaining time, are determined. The data of infrared spectroscopy of the films show that exposure to optical radiation induces a 2.4% decrease in the transmittance at a wavelength of 6.3 mu m. It is found that, after termination of the irradiation, the transmittance gradually increases with a rate of 0.006% s(-1). It is suggested that photoreduction is the dominant mechanism responsible for changes in the electrical and optical properties of the In2O3 films.

Аннотация: This work presents the correlation between the morphology and magnetic properties of (Fe/Si)3 multilayers with different Fe layer thicknesses and fixed Si spacer thickness in a broad temperature range (View the MathML source5T800K). Films were prepared by thermal evaporation under ultrahigh vacuum onto a buffer layer of Fe/Ag deposited on a GaAs(001) substrate. Transmission electron microscopy reveals good epitaxial growth and phase transformations in the c-FeSi phase formed during deposition as well as upon subsequent annealing of the sample up to 800 K. Remanence to saturation magnetization MR/MS ratios and saturation fields are related to several types of interlayer exchange coupling. 90°-coupling and a superposition of 90° and antiferromagnetic interlayer exchange coupling are found depending on the Fe layer thickness. Magnetization curves were investigated as a function of temperature by in situ annealing. They show an irreversible thermal process as temperature increases from 300 to 450 K that is correlated to the formation of a ferromagnetic silicide phase. At higher temperature this phase transforms into a paramagnetic Fe–Si phase.

Аннотация: The effect of 0, 0.5, and 1 μm-thick Ag interlayers on the chemical interaction between Pd and Fe in epitaxial Pd(0 0 1)/Ag(0 0 1)/Fe(0 0 1)/MgO(0 0 1) and Fe(0 0 1)/Ag(0 0 1)/Pd(0 0 1)/MgO(0 0 1) trilayers has been studied using X-ray diffraction, 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and magnetic structural measurements. No mixing of Pd and Fe occurs via the chemically inert Ag layer at annealing temperatures up to 400 °C. As the annealing temperature is increased above 400 °C, a solid-state synthesis of an ordered L10-FePd phase begins in the Pd(0 0 1)/Ag(0 0 1)/Fe(0 0 1) and Fe(0 0 1)/Ag(0 0 1)/Pd(0 0 1) film trilayers regardless of the thickness of the buffer Ag layer. In all samples, annealing above 500 °C leads to the formation of a disordered FexPd1−x(0 0 1) phase; however, in samples lacking the Ag layer, the synthesis of FexPd1−x is preceded by the formation of an ordered L12-FePd3 phase. An analysis of the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results shows that Pd is the dominant moving species in the reaction between Pd and Fe. According to the preliminary results, the 2.2 μm-thick Ag film does not prevent the synthesis of the L10-FePd phase and only slightly increases the phase’s initiation temperature. Data showing the ultra-fast transport of Pd atoms via thick inert Ag layers are interpreted as direct evidence of the long-range character of the chemical interaction between Pd and Fe. Thus, in the reaction state, Pd and Fe interact chemically even though the distance between them is about 104 times greater than an ordinary chemical bond length.

Аннотация: The geometrical characteristics of a 2D SiC monolayer on Mg(0001) and MgO(111) plates regarded as potential materials for growing two-dimensional silicon carbide were studied. The most favorable positions of the atoms of 2D SiC on the substrates were determined. In the 2D SiC/Mg(0001) system, unlike in 2D SiC/MgO(111), the deviation of the carbon atom from the silicon carbide monolayer was insignificant (0.08 ). Consequently, magnesium can be used as a substrate for growing two-dimensional silicon carbide. The use of MgO(111) is not recommended because of a significant distortion of the 2D SiC surface.

Аннотация: The solid-state synthesis of magnetically soft phase FePd3 in epitaxial Pd(0 0 1)/Fe(0 0 1)/MgO(0 0 1) film systems was studied experimentally. The system had a Fe to Pd ratio of 1:3. An increase to 450 °C leads to the formation of three variants of ordered L10-FePd crystallites. At 500 °C, the solid-state reaction of unreacted Pd with L10-FePd crystallites initiates the growth of an ordered epitaxial L12-FePd3(0 0 1) layer. When annealing at 650 °С, a gradual disordering is observed. The magnetic anisotropy (K1=−2.0×103 erg/cm3) and the saturation magnetization (MS=650 emu/cm3) of the disordered FePd3 phase were determined.

Аннотация: Results of an X-ray diffraction study as well as magnetic and electrical measurements of the solid-state reactions in Ge/Mn polycrystalline films of an 80/20 atomic composition have been presented. It has been shown that the ferromagnetic Mn5Ge3 phase is formed first on the Ge/Mn interface after annealing at similar to 120A degrees C. The further increase in the annealing temperature to 300A degrees C leads to the beginning of the synthesis of the Mn11Ge8 phase, which becomes dominating at 400A degrees C. The existence of new structural transitions in the Mn-Ge system in the region of similar to 120 and similar to 300A degrees C has been predicted on the basis of the presented results and results obtained earlier when studying solid-state reactions in different film structures. The supposition about the general chemical mechanisms of the synthesis of the Mn5Ge3 and Mn11Ge8 phases during the solid-state reactions in the Ge/Mn films of the 80/20 atomic composition and the phase separation in Ge (x) Mn1 - x (x 0.95) diluted semiconductors has been substantiated.

Аннотация: The band structure, spectral intensity, and position of the Fermi level in doped p-type La1-xMx2+ MnO3 manganites (M = Sr, Ca, Ba) is analyzed using the LDA + GBT method for calculating the electronic structure of systems with strong electron correlations, taking into account antiferro-orbital ordering and using the Kugel-Khomskii ideas and real spin S = 2. The results of the ferromagnetic phase reproduce the state of a spin half-metal with 100% spin polarization at T = 0, when the spectrum is of the metal type for a quasiparticle with one spin projection and of the dielectric type for the other. It is found that the valence band becomes approximately three times narrower upon a transition to the paramagnetic phase. For the paramagnetic phase, metal properties are observed because the Fermi level is located in the valence band for any nonzero x. The dielectrization effect at the Curie temperature is possible and must be accompanied by filling of d(x) orbitals upon doping. The effect itself is associated with strong electron correlations, and a complex structure of the top of the valence band is due to the Jahn-Teller effect in cubic materials. Аннотация: A methods of obtaining polycrystalline CoCrFeO4 films based on solid-phase reactions in Cr2O3/Co/Fe layer structures in the regimes of isothermal annealing and self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) is described. The magneto-optical properties of the obtained films have been studied. It is established that the spectra of magneto-optical characteristics depend on the solid-phase reaction regime and synthesis temperature. The Faraday rotation angle exhibits a local maximum (2 theta(F) = 5 deg/mu m) at a wave-length of 630 nm.

Аннотация: Fused silica plates have been implanted with 40 keV Co+ or Ni+ ions to high doses in the range of (0.25-1.0) x 10(17) ions/cm(2), and magnetic properties of the implanted samples have been studied with ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) technique supplemented by transmission electron microscopy, electron diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The high-dose implantation with 3d-ions results in the formation of cobalt and nickel metal nanoparticles in the irradiated subsurface layer of the SiO2 matrix. Co and Ni nanocrystals with hexagonal close packing and face-centered cubic structures have a spherical shape and the sizes of 4-5 nm (for cobalt) and 6-14 nm (for nickel) in diameter. Room-temperature FMR signals from ensembles of Co and Ni nanoparticles implanted in the SiO2 matrix exhibit an out-of-plane uniaxial magnetic anisotropy that is typical for thin magnetic films. The dose and temperature dependences of FMR spectra have been analyzed using the Kittel formalism, and the effective magnetization and g-factor values have been obtained for Co- and Ni-implanted samples. Nonsymmetric FMR line shapes have been fitted by a sum of two symmetrical curves. The dependences of the magnetic parameters of each curve on the implantation dose and temperature are presented.
