Аннотация: Near-infrared (NIR) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) light sources are desirable in photonic, optoelectronic, and biological applications. However, developing broadband red and NIR-emitting phosphors with good thermal stability is always a challenge. Herein, the synthesis of Eu2+-activated SrY2O4 red phosphor with high photoluminescence quantum efficiency and broad emission band ranging from 540 to 770 nm and peaking at 620 nm under 450 nm excitation is designed. Sr/Ba substitution in SrY2O4:Eu2+ has been further utilized to achieve tunable emission by modifying the local environment, which facilitates the giant red-shifted emission from 620 to 773 nm while maintaining the outstanding thermal stability of SrY2O4:Eu2+. The NIR emission is attributed to the enhanced Stokes shift and crystal field strength originated from the local structural distortions of [Y1/Eu1O6] and [Y2/Eu2O6]. The investigation in charge distribution around Y/Eu provides additional insight into increasing covalency to tune the emission toward the NIR region. As-fabricated NIR phosphor-converted LEDs demonstration shows its potential in night-vision technologies. This study reveals the NIR luminescence mechanism of Eu2+ in oxide-based hosts and provides a design principle for exploiting Eu2+-doped NIR phosphors with good thermal stability.

Аннотация: We analyze the effect of electron and hole doping with a low substituent concentration (x = 0.01) on the magnetic and electron subsystems in disordered semiconductors MexMn1-xS (Me = Ag and Tm) in a wide range of temperatures (77–1000 K) and magnetic fields up to 12 kOe. Using magnetic measurements, we have established the domains of ferron (polaron) formation in the vicinity of the magnetic phase transition. We have detected the magnetoimpedance and magnetoresistance, the magnitude and sign of which depend on the electric field, temperature, and the type of the substituent element. We have determined the temperatures of thermopower peaks associated with deformation of the crystalline structure. We have established the phonon and magnon contributions to charge carrier relaxation using the method of impedance spectroscopy and the Jahn–Teller mode of oscillations from the IR spectra for the system containing silver. We have determined the diffusion contribution to the conductivity from the impedance hodograph in TmxMn1-xS semiconductors. The experimental results are described using the models of supermagnetic clusters, ferroelectric domains, and the Debye model.

Аннотация: Crystals of a diamagnetic PbGaBO4 analog containing a small amount (about 0.5 at %) of Fe3+ ions are grown. The single-ion EPR spectra of Fe3+ in PbGa1-xFexBO4 single crystals are analyzed with allowance for a crystal structure. The existence of four magnetically nonequivalent positions of Fe3+ ions with different local anisotropy axis directions has been confirmed. The parameters of the spin Hamiltonian written in the approximation of the local orthorhombic symmetry of a paramagnetic center are determined. The values of single-ion anisotropy constants, which are unusually high for S ions, is shown to be caused by a strong distortion of the ligand environment of Fe3+ ions. The single-ion contribution to the energy of the total magnetic anisotropy of a magnetically concentrated PbGaBO4 crystal is estimated. Two-ion mechanisms of the Fe–Fe interaction anisotropy are assumed to play a dominant role in the formation of magnetic anisotropy in a magnetically concentrated crystal.

Аннотация: The electrical properties of the Ag0.01Mn0.99S and Tm0.01Mn0.99S semiconductor compounds and the Hall effect in them have been investigated in the temperature range of 80-400 K in a magnetic field of 12 kOe. Using the I-V characteristics, the conductivity mechanism depending on the doping type and concentration has been established. Upon substitution of silver for manganese, the Mott-type conductivity has been found, while substitution of thulium causes the ohmic conductivity. The mobility and type of carriers have been determined from the Hall constant data.

Аннотация: Superconducting and paramagnetic contributions to the magnetization of polycrystalline Y1−xHoxBa2Cu3O7−δ samples were investigated. The superconductivity is responsible for a partial screening of magnetic ions from an external magnetic field and for a possible sinking of antiferromagnetic correlations between these ions. Magnetic moments of Ho ions influence on a peak effect induced by the order–disorder transition of the Abrikosov vortex lattice. The critical current density and the critical temperature of YBCO are not changed by the Ho doping.

Аннотация: Ferrihydrite nanoparticles (2–3 nm in size), which are products of the vital activity of microorganisms, are studied by the ferromagnetic resonance method. The “core” of ferrihydrite particles is ordered antiferromagnetically, and the presence of defects leads to the appearance of an uncompensated magnetic moment in nanoparticles and the characteristic superparamagnetic behavior. It is established from the ferromagnetic resonance data that the field dependence of the frequency is described by the expression 2πν/γ = HR + H A(T=0) (1 − T/T*), where γ is the gyromagnetic ratio, HR is the resonance field, HA ≈ 7 kOe, and T* ≈ 50 K. The induced anisotropy HA is due to the spin-glass state of the near-surface regions.

Аннотация: In this study, the problem of strong Coulomb interactions in topological superconducting wire is analyzed by means of the density-matrix-renormalization-group (DMRG) approach. To analyze properties of edge states in the BDI-class structure, a quantity called Majorana polarization is used. From its dependence on wire length and an entanglement-spectrum degeneracy, topological phase diagrams are obtained. The DMRG calculations for the Shubin-Vonsovsky-type model of the wire show the transformation of phases with Majorana single and double modes (MSMs and MDMs, respectively) under the increase of onsite and intersite correlations. In particular, we demonstrate different scenarios including the possibilities of both induction and suppression of the MSMs and MDMs. It is shown that in the strongly correlated regime, the contributions of single-particle excitations to the Majorana-type states significantly decrease at low magnetic fxields. Moreover, the t-J*-V model is derived allowing to study the effective interactions and improve the DMRG numerics. It is found out that in the limiting case of the effective Hamiltonian with infinitely strong onsite repulsion, t model, the topological phases are destroyed. Finally, the ways to probe the MSMs and MDMs via the features of caloric functions are discussed.

Аннотация: The magnetic structure of the ε-Fe2O3 iron oxide polymorphic modification is collinear ferrimagnetic in the range from room temperature to ~150 K. As the temperature decreases, ε-Fe2O3 undergoes a magnetic transition accompanied by a significant decrease in the coercivity Hc and, in the low-temperature range, the compound has a complex incommensurate magnetic structure. We experimentally investigated the dynamic magnetization switching of the ε-Fe2O3 nanoparticles with an average size of 8 nm in the temperature range of 80–300 K, which covers different types of the magnetic structure of this iron oxide. A bulk material consisting of xerogel SiO2 with the ε-Fe2O3 nanoparticles embedded in its pores was examined. The magnetic hysteresis loops under dynamic magnetization switching were measured using pulsed magnetic fields Hmax of up to 130 kOe by discharging a capacitor bank through a solenoid. The coercivity Нс upon the dynamic magnetization switching noticeably exceeds the Нс value under the quasi-static conditions. This is caused by the superparamagnetic relaxation of magnetic moments of particles upon the pulsed magnetization switching. In the range from room temperature to ~ 150 K, the external field variation rate dH/dt is the main parameter that determines the behavior of the coercivity under the dynamic magnetization switching. It is the behavior that is expected for a system of single-domain ferro- and ferrimagnetic particles. Under external conditions (at a temperature of 80 K) when the ε-Fe2O3 magnetic structure is incommensurate, the coercivity during the pulsed magnetization switching depends already on the parameter dH/dt and is determined, to a great extent, by the maximum applied field Hmax. Such a behavior atypical of systems of ferrimagnetic particles is caused already by the dynamic spin processes inside the ε-Fe2O3 particles during fast magnetization switching.

Аннотация: We consider light scattering by dielectric gratings supporting optical bound states in the continuum. Due to the presence of instantaneous Kerr nonlinearity critical field enhancement in the spectral vicinity of the bound state triggers the effect of optical bistability. The onset of bistability is explained theoretically in the framework of the temporal coupled-mode theory. As the central result we cast the problem in the form of a single field-driven nonlinear oscillator. The theoretical results are verified in comparison with numerical simulations.

Аннотация: The simple lattice and magnetic structure, the high Neel temperature, the narrow antiferromagnetic resonance line of FeBO3, and the narrow electron paramagnetic resonance line of its isostructural diamagnetic analogs MBO3:Fe3+(M = Ga, In, Sc, Lu) make iron borate unique for investigations and applications. Iron borate is a model crystal for numerous experimental and theoretical studies, including spin crossovers and metallization at megabar pressures and many-electron effects in optics and X-ray spectroscopy. The recent works dealing with the investigation of the properties of FeBO(3)are reviewed.

Аннотация: The magnetostatic and magnetic resonance properties of the Y0.5Sr0.5Cr0.5Mn0.5O3 polycrystalline system have been experimentally investigated. The predominance of the intracrystalline ferromagnetic interaction and the antiferromagnetic character of the intercrystallite interaction have been established. The magnetic resonance spectrum in the magnetically ordered region consists of two lines. The high-field line corresponds to the interacting parts of polycrystal shells and the low-field peak is related to the disordered system of ferromagnetic particles.

Аннотация: Orthorhombic Pb2Fe2Ge2O9 antiferromagnetic single crystals have been synthesized by a modified pseudo-flux technique and their magnetic, thermodynamic, and magnetodielectric properties have been investigated. It has been found that, below the Ned temperature (45.2 K), iron moments are arranged in a canted antiferromagnetic structure with a weak ferromagnetic moment parallel to the a axis. According to the specific heat measurement data, the T-N value remains invariable in applied magnetic fields of up to 50 kOe within the experimental accuracy. The magnetic entropy in the investigated crystals attains 2Rln(2S + 1) right above T-N, which is indicative of a purely magnetic nature of the transition. It has been shown that the weak ferromagnetic moment is induced by the interplay between the single-ion anisotropy and antisymmetric Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya exchange interaction, with the latter contribution being dominant. It has been established from the angular dependences of the magnetization in three orthorhombic planes that the symmetries of the magnetic and crystal structure are identical. The magnetodielectric properties of the Pb2Fe2Ge2O9 single crystals have been studied at different mutual orientations of the electric and magnetic fields. The most prominent anomalies have been observed in the vicinity of the spin-flop transition in a magnetic field applied along the c axis.

Аннотация: In search of a substance able to function as an anionic surfactant applied for the electrically-induced anchoring transitions in liquid crystals, the compound 4-heptyloxybenzoate benzyl dodecyldimethylammonium (HOBBDDA) has been synthesized. Its orienting influence on nematic liquid crystal 4-pentyl-4'-cyanobiphenyl (5CB) has been tested. HOBBDDA dissolved up to 1.4%in 50 droplets dispersed in polymer film does not change the tangential surface anchoring inherent to polyvinyl alcohol matrix used. Homeotropic surface anchoring is realized if the HOBBDDA content exceeds 1.7%. The molecules of the surfactant in 5CB dissociate into anions and cations. The anions modify the surface anchoring under the action of DC electric field both in the normal and inverse mode. The mixture of HOBBDDA and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide can function as a binary ionic cationic surfactant which significantly expands the prospects for using the ionic-surfactant method to control liquid crystal materials. Аннотация: Orientational structures formed in nematic and cholesteric layers with tangential-conical boundary conditions have been investigated. LC cells with one substrate specifying the conical surface anchoring and another substrate specifying the tangential one have been considered. The director configurations and topological defects have been identified analyzing the texture patterns obtained by polarizing microscope in comparison with the structures and optical textures calculated by free energy minimization procedure of director field and finite-difference time-domain method, respectively. The domains, periodic structures and two-dimensional defects proper to the LC cells with tangential-conical anchoring have been studied depending on the layer thickness and cholesteric pitch.

Аннотация: Establishing an effective design principle in solid-state materials for a blue-light-excited Eu2+-doped red-emitting oxide-based phosphors remains one of the significant challenges for white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs). Selective occupation of Eu2+ in inorganic polyhedra with small coordination numbers results in broad-band red emission as a result of enhanced crystal-field splitting of 5d levels. Rb3YSi2O7:Eu exhibits a broad emission band at λmax=622 nm under 450 nm excitation, and structural analysis and DFT calculations support the concept that Eu2+ ions preferably occupy RbO6 and YO6 polyhedra and show the characteristic red emission band of Eu2+. The excellent thermal quenching resistance, high color-rendering index Ra (93), and low CCT (4013 K) of the WLEDs clearly demonstrate that site engineering of rare-earth phosphors is an effective strategy to target tailored optical performance.

Аннотация: To study non-Heisenberg effects in the vicinity of spin crossover in strongly correlated electron systems we derive an effective low-energy Hamiltonian for the two-band Kanamori model. It contains a Heisenberg high-spin term proportional to exchange constant as well as a low-spin term proportional to spin gap parameter ɛs. Using cluster mean field theory we obtain several non-Heisenberg effects. Near the critical value of spin gap ɛcs there is a magnetic phase transition of first order. In the vicinity of ɛcs in the paramagnetic phase we observe nontrivial behavior of the Curie constant in the paramagnetic susceptibility in the wide range of temperature. Reentrant temperature behavior of nearest-neighbor spin-spin correlations is observed at ɛsɛcs. Finally, the pressure-temperature magnetic phase diagram for ferroperriclase is obtained using the effective Hamiltonian.

Аннотация: We consider an optical response induced by bound states in the continuum (BICs) in arrays of dielectric spheres. By combining the quasi-mode expansion technique with coupled mode theory (CMT), we put forward a theory of the optical response by high-Q resonance surrounding BICs in momentum space. The central results are analytical expressions for the CMT parameters, which can be easily calculated from the eigenfrequencies and eigenvectors of the interaction matrix of the scattering systems. The results obtained are verified in comparison against exact numerical solutions to demonstrate that the CMT approximation is capable of reproducing Fano features in the spectral vicinity of the BIC. Based on the quasi-mode expansion technique, we derived the asymptotic scaling law for the CMT parameters in the vicinity of the Γ-point. It is rigorously demonstrated that the linewidth in the CMT approximation exhibits different asymptotic behavior depending on the symmetry of the BIC.

Аннотация: Cholesteric droplets dispersed in a polymer with homeotropic surface anchoring are studied. A director configuration with the bipolar distribution of the axis of the helix is formed in droplets. The untwisting of the helical structure (i.e., an increase in the pitch of the helix) is experimentally observed at a decrease in the size of droplets. This dependence is analyzed for liquid crystal droplets with various concentrations of the chiral addition. A proposed empirical relation describes well the correlation of the helix pitch and the size of droplets in the studied samples.

We have analyzed spectral properties of spinless bosons in a square lattice taking into account the short-range correlation.
