Аннотация:
Experimental values of the Lorentz tensor components and the local field of a light wave have been obtained for
anisotropic
films of polypeptide and DNA. These data indicate an increase in the mean value and anisotropy of the polarizability of biomolecules with respect to an isotropic solution. These changes in the polarizability as an indicator of the response of biomolecules to external actions, as well as their chemical and biological activity, specify the direction of the evolution of the properties of biomolecules in orientationally ordered media.

Аннотация:
Для анизотропных пленок полипептида и ДНК получены экспериментальные значения компонент тензоров Лорентца и локального поля световой волны, которые отвечают возрастанию средней величины и анизотропии поляризуемости биомолекул относительно изотропного раствора. Эти изменения поляризуемости как индикатора отклика биомолекул на внешние воздействия, а также их химической и биологической активности задают направление эволюции свойств биомолекул в ориентационно упорядоченных средах.

Аннотация:
Исследовано влияние многократного отражения при электронном транспорте на вольт-амперную характеристику адсорбированного магнитного атома с одноионной анизотропией. Для учета вкладов всех порядков теории возмущений по параметрам связи контактов с многоуровневой примесью применены операторы Хаббарда и диаграммная техника Келдыша. Показано, что в режиме сильной неравновесности вольт-амперные характеристики рассмотренной системы содержат участки с отрицательной дифференциальной проводимостью. Обсуждаются способы увеличения этого эффекта.

Аннотация:
Waves in superlattice (SL) contained inhomogeneities with
anisotropic
correlation properties are considered. The anisotropy of the correlation during the transition from 3D to 2D disorder is characterized by the parameter ? 1 = k ||/k?-1, where k || and k? are the correlation wave numbers along the axis of the SL and in the plane of the its layers, respectively (r || =k || -1 and r?=k?-1 are the correlation radii). Dependencies of both the dynamic susceptibility and density of states at the continuous transition from the isotropic three-dimensional inhomogeneities (? 1 = 0) to the twodimensional ones (? 1 = -1) have been obtained. Аннотация:
The effect of multiple reflection in the process of electron transport on the current-voltage characteristics of an adsorbed magnetic atom with single-ion anisotropy has been investigated. All orders of the perturbation theory with respect to the parameter of coupling between the contacts and the multilevel impurity have been taken into account by the Keldysh diagram technique with the use of Hubbard operators. It has been shown that the current-voltage characteristics of the system in a strongly nonequilibrium regime contains regions of negative differential conductance. The ways of enhancing this effect are discussed.

Аннотация:
Defect modes are investigated in a band gap of an electrically tunable one-dimensional photonic crystal infiltrated with a twisted-nematic liquid crystal. Their frequency shift and interference under applied voltage are studied both experimentally and theoretically. We deal with the case where the defect layer thickness is much larger than the wavelength (i.e., the Mauguin condition). It is shown theoretically that the defect modes could have a complex structure with elliptic polarization. Two series of polarized modes are coupled with each other and exhibit an avoided crossing phenomenon in the case of opposite parity.

Coercivity of amorphous Co-P single-layer and trilayer films fabricated by chemical deposition has been investigated. It has been established that the thickness dependences of the coercivity for isotropic and
anisotropic
films are different. Data on the coercivity variation with a nonmagnetic spacer thickness and a number of magnetic layers in the trilayer films are reported. Аннотация:
Quantum transport of electrons through a magnetic impurity located in an external magnetic field and affected by a substrate is considered using the Keldysh diagram technique for the Fermi and Hubbard operators. It is shown that in a strongly nonequilibrium state induced by multiple reflections of electrons from the impurity, the current-voltage (I-V) characteristic of the system contains segments with a negative conductivity. This effect can be controlled by varying the anisotropy parameter of the impurity center as well as the parameters of coupling between the magnetic impurity and metal contacts. The application of the magnetic field is accompanied by an increase in the number of Coulomb steps in the I-V curve of the impurity. The effect of appreciable magnetoresistance appears in this case. We demonstrate the possibility of switching between magnetic impurity states with different total spin projection values in the regime of asymmetric coupling of this impurity with the contacts.

Аннотация:
A generalized method of conditional moments for computation of effective elastic constants of
anisotropic
rocks with spatially oriented microcracks is considered. The method involves an additional operation of averaging of known solution data for a modeled rock of orthorhombic structure with ellipsoidal microcracks whose semiaxes are oriented along the coordinate axes. The averaging is performed using the distribution function of rock microcrack orientations, which is expanded into a series in terms of generalized spherical functions. The expansion coefficients are determined by an experiment. In calculating the effective elastic constants of
anisotropic
rocks, there are no constraints on the concentration of microcracks. We have studied the parameters of azimuthal anisotropy of elastic-wave velocities in modeled amphibolites with ellipsoidal hornblende grains oriented along the coordinate axes and with three-planar and spatially oriented systems of microcracks. The obtained results agree with experimental data of ultrasonic determinations of elastic constants for amphibolite samples.

Аннотация:
Using an invariant-polarization ultrasound method, we have studied the velocities of elastic waves in the gneisses and amphibolites of the second rock mass of the Archean complex of the Kola superdeep borehole (7622-9456 m) and calculated the determinate components of acoustic tensor and elastic-constant tensor and their symmetry. The symmetry of the studied structures is shown to be rhombic and triclinic. The stereoprojections of mineral's crystallographic orientation and normals to microfractures are built by the data on the inversion of the azimuthal dependence of elastic constants.

Anisotropy mechanisms in compounds with S-state ions are discussed, including the 'single-ion' exchange mechanism that was developed theoretically by Nikiforov and coworkers based on the two-ion model and which has only recently received detailed experimental study. Results demonstrating the significant role of the 'single-ion' source are presented. An independent generalized method for quantitatively describing and predicting the anisotropy of magnetically ordered crystals is discussed, and its potential for the investigation of the BiFeO3 multiferroic in the region of the existence of a spin cycloid is examined. The
anisotropic
interactions responsible for the formation of nanostructures in the form of spin vortices (skyrmions) in MnSi and Cu2OSeO3 are analyzed.

Аннотация:
The spectral properties of a one-dimensional photonic crystal with a structure defect-
anisotropic
nanocomposite layer incorporated between two multilayer dielectric mirrors-have been theoretically investigated. Some specific features are revealed in the transmission spectrum of a photonic crystal. They are primarily due to the resonant behavior of the effective permittivity of nanocomposite and the strong dependence of this parameter on the volume fraction of nanoparticles in the composite.

Waves in the superlattice (SL) contained inhomogeneities with
anisotropic
correlation properties are considered. The anisotropy of the correlations is characterized by the parameter lambda=1-k(perpendicular to)/k(parallel to), where k(parallel to) and k(perpendicular to) are the correlation wave numbers along the axis of the SL and in the plane of its layers, respectively (r(parallel to) = k(parallel to)(-1) and r(perpendicular to) = k(perpendicular to)(-1) are the correlation radii). Dependencies of both the dynamic susceptibility and density of states at the continuous transition from the isotropic three-dimensional inhomogeneities (lambda=0) to the one-dimensional ones (lambda=1) have been obtained.

We have studied the spectral properties of a one-dimensional photonic crystal with a structure defect that represents an
anisotropic
nanocomposite layer sandwiched between two multi-layer dielectric mirrors. The nanocomposite consists of metallic nanoscale inclusions of orientationally ordered spheroidal shape, dispersed in a transparent matrix, and is characterised by an effective resonant permittivity. Each of the two orthogonal polarisations of probe radiation corresponds to a particular plasmon resonant frequency of the nanocomposite. The problem of calculating the transmittance spectrum of the waves with s- and p-polarisations for such structures is solved. Spectral manifestation of splitting of the defect mode depending on the structure parameters and volumetric fraction of the nanospheroids is studied. The essential dependence of the position of maxima of the defect modes in the bandgap of the photonic crystal and their splitting on the incidence angle, polarisation, and the ratio of lengths of the polar and equatorial semi-axes of the spheroidal nanoparticles is shown.

Аннотация:
New boundary conditions for the decoupling of elliptically polarized eigenmodes in an
anisotropic
optical cavity are proposed. It is shown that twisting the optical axis changes the phase shift of the waves. The difference between the effective refraction indices is greater than the one between ordinary and extraordinary refraction indices.

Anomalous spectral shift of transmission peaks is observed in a Fabry-Pérot cavity filled with a chiral
anisotropic
medium. The effective refractive index value resides out of the interval between the ordinary and the extraordinary refractive indices. The spectral shift is explained by contribution of a geometric phase. The problem is solved analytically using the approximate Jones matrix method, numerically using the accurate Berreman method, and geometrically using the generalized Mauguin-Poincaré rolling cone method. The o-mode blueshift is measured for a 4-methoxybenzylidene-4′-n-butylaniline twisted-nematic layer inside the Fabry-Pérot cavity. The twist is electrically induced due to the homeoplanar-twisted configuration transition in an ionic-surfactant-doped liquid crystal layer. Experimental evidence confirms the validity of the theoretical model. © 2015 American Physical Society.

Аннотация:
The dispersion equation of a strongly
anisotropic
one-dimensional magnet catena-[FeII(ClO4)2{FeIII(bpca)2}]ClO4 containing alternating high-spin (HS) (S = 2) and low-spin (LS) (S = 1/2) iron ions is obtained by the diagram technique for Hubbard operators. The analysis of this equation yields six branches in the excitation spectrum of this magnet. It is important that the crystal field for ions with spin S = 2 is described by the Hamiltonian of single-ion easy-plane anisotropy, whose orientation is changed by 90° when passing from one HS iron ion to another. The U(N) transformation technique in the atomic representation is applied to diagonalize a single-ion Hamiltonian with a large number of levels. It is shown that the modulation of the orientation of easy magnetization planes leads to a model of a ferrimagnet with easy-axis anisotropy and to the formation of energy spectrum with a large gap. For HS iron ions, a decrease in the mean value of the spin projection due to quantum fluctuations is calculated. The analysis of the specific features of the spectrum of elementary excitations allows one to establish a correspondence to a generalized Ising model for which the magnetic susceptibility is calculated in a wide range of temperatures by the transfer-matrix method. The introduction of a statistical ensemble that takes into account the presence of chains of different lengths and the presence of iron ions with different spins allows one to describe the experimentally observed modification of the magnetic susceptibility of the magnet under optical irradiation.
