Аннотация: The magnetic properties of the superparamagnetic ferrihydrite nanoparticles that form as a result of the vital activity of Klebsiella oxytoca bacteria are studied. Both an initial powder with an average number of iron atoms N Fe ∼ 2000–2500 in a particle and this powder after annealing at 140°C for 3 h in air are investigated. The following substantial modifications of the magnetic properties of the ferrihydrite nanoparticles are detected after annealing: the superparamagnetic blocking temperature increases from 23 to 49.5 K, and the average magnetic moment of a particle increases (as follows from the results of processing of magnetization curves). The particles have antiferromagnetic ordering, and the magnetic moment resulting in the superparamagnetism of the system appears due to random spin decompensation inside the particle. For this mechanism, the number of uncompensated spins is proportional to the number of magnetically active atoms raised to the one-half power, and this relation holds true for the samples under study at a good accuracy. The possible causes of the detected shift of magnetic hysteresis loops at low temperatures upon field cooling are discussed.

Аннотация: В рамках кластерной теории возмущений в представлении Х-операторов Хаббарда рассчитана энергетическая структура электронов в модели Хаббарда, t-J- и t-J *-модели с учетом уширения спектральных линий, соответствующего экспериментам по фотоэмиссионной спектроскопии с угловым разрешением. При энергиях порядка интеграла перескока t в полученных спектрах наблюдаются аномалии, схожие с высокоэнергетическими кинками, наблюдаемыми в экспериментах по фотоэмиссионной спектроскопии с угловым разрешением. Исследовано поведение высокоэнергетических аномалий электронной дисперсии при изменениях величины допирования и параметра кулоновского отталкивания. Проанализировано влияние трехцентровых коррелированных перескоков на результаты расчета.
The electronic structure with the spectral line broadening corresponding to the angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy resolution has been calculated for the Hubbard model, t-J and t-J * models within the norm-conserving cluster perturbation theory. The electronic dispersion anomalies similar to the high-energy kinks observed in the angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy experiments are obtained at the energy scale of order of the hopping integral t. The doping dependence of the high-energy anomalies for different Coulomb repulsion values is discussed. The influence of the three-site correlated hopping on the results is analyzed.

Аннотация: The results of the experimental investigation into the magnetic hysteresis of systems of superparamagnetic ferrihydrite nanoparticles of bacterial origin have been presented. The hysteresis properties of these objects are determined by the presence of an uncompensated magnetic moment in antiferromagnetic nanoparticles. It has been revealed that, under the conditions of cooling in an external magnetic field, there is a shift of the hysteresis loop with respect to the origin of the coordinates. These features are associated with the exchange coupling of the uncompensated magnetic moment and the antiferromagnetic “core” of the particles, as well as with processes similar to those responsible for the behavior of minor hysteresis loops due to strong local anisotropy fields of the ferrihydrite nanoparticles. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Аннотация: The magnetic properties of ferrihydrite nanoparticles, which are products of vital functions of Klebsiella oxitoca bacteria, have been studied. The initial powder containing the nanoparticles in an organic shell was subjected to low-temperature (T=160 °C) heat treatment for up to 240 h. The bacterial ferrihydrite particles exhibit a superparamagnetic behavior. Their characteristic blocking temperature increases from 26 to 80 K with the heat treatment. Analysis of the magnetization curves with regard to the magnetic moment distribution function and antiferromagnetic contribution shows that the low-temperature heat treatment enhances the average magnetic moment of a particle; i.e., the nanoparticles coarsen, probably due to their partial agglomeration during heat treatment. It was established that the blocking temperature nonlinearly depends on the particle volume. Therefore, a model was proposed that takes into account both the bulk and surface magnetic anisotropy. Using this model, the bulk and surface magnetic anisotropy constants KV≈1.7×105 erg/cm3 and KS≈0.055 erg/cm2 have been determined. The effect of the surface magnetic anisotropy of ferrihydrite nanoparticles on the observed magnetic hysteresis loops is discussed.

Аннотация: The electronic structure of LaCoO3 at finite temperatures is calculated using the LDA+GTB method taking into account strong electron correlations and possible spin crossover upon an increase in temperature. Gap states revealed in the energy spectrum of LaCoO3 reduce the dielectric gap width upon heating; this allowed us to describe the insulator-metal transition observed in this compound at T = 500-600 K. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility with a peak at T a parts per thousand 100 K is explained by the Curie contribution from thermally excited energy levels of the Co3+ ion. At high temperatures, the Pauli contribution from a band electron is added and the total magnetization of LaCoO3 is considered as the sum M (tot) = M (loc) + M (band). The second term describes the band contribution appearing as a result of the insulator-metal transition and facilitating the emergence of a high-temperature anomaly in the magnetic susceptibility of LaCoO3.

Аннотация: The transformation of various properties of gadolinium ferroborate single crystals at phase transitions, both spontaneous and induced by magnetic fields up to 200 kOe, is investigated theoretically and experimentally. Particular attention is paid to elucidating the role of magnetoelectric interactions and the change in them at spin-reorientation transitions accompanied by a change of magnetic symmetry. With that goal the magnetoelastic and magnetoelectric properties of the system are investigated over a wide range of temperatures for two orientations of the magnetic field, H parallel to c and H perpendicular to c, and a fundamental difference of the character of the field dependences of the magnetostriction and electric polarization is found. In the framework of a symmetry approach a description of the magnetic structures and their transformations in the system GdFe3(BO3)(4) is proposed, and an interpretation of the experimentally observed properties is given. Аннотация: Raman scattering spectra of the RbMnCl3 crystal have been studied under ambient conditions and under high hydrostatic pressure. The results produced have been interpreted with the ab initio model. The experimental data agree well with the estimated values in the low frequency range and show a slightly worse agreement at higher frequencies. A phase transition from the hexagonal phase to the perovskite phase predicted earlier within the same model was observed under high pressure (above 0.7 GPa) and new transitions to lower symmetry phases were found at higher pressures (1.1 GPa and 5 GPa). Аннотация: The magnetic resonance measurements show that the mixed two-phase state takes place in the Eu0.7Pb0.3MnO3 single crystal. The coexistence of the magnetic phases is observed in vicinity of the magnetic phase transition, where the sample exhibits the effect of the CMR. The frequency-field dependencies of the spectra allow to conclude that these phases are paramagnetic and ferromagnetic ones. Moreover, the study of the frequency dependencies shows the sensitivity of the mixed-phase state to the external magnetic field. This suggests that the scenario of the phase separation is realized in this case and the mixed two-phase state is not related to simple chemical inhomogeneity. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Аннотация: Electron transmission in the two-, three-, and four-terminal nanostructures is considered under the influence of a radiation field. The frequency of the radiation field is tuned to the transition between the energy of a bound state and the Fermi energy of the incident electrons. The radiation induced resonant peaks and dips of the electron transport are exhibited for zero and low magnetic fields. It is shown that rotation of the radiation field polarization can effectively control the electron transport into different electrodes attached to the structures because of the symmetry of the structures. The resonant anomalies of the Hall resistance are found in a weak magnetic field. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics. [S1063-7761(98)00412-0].

Аннотация: The temperature dependence of resistivity and the bulk modulus are calculated on the Kondo lattice, with ring exchange between localized spins, using the spin-polaron and adiabatic approximation. The effects of the nearest order between transverse spin components and a value of the ring exchange between localized spins on magnetoresistivity are estimated.

Аннотация: The heat capacity of two relaxors BaTi(1-x)ZrxO(3) (x = 0.35, 0.40) was measured using adiabatic calorimetry in the temperature range 100-360 K. The Cp(T) dependence of both compositions is characterized by the presence of two diffuse anomalies near the Burns temperature T-d and the temperature of the maximum in permittivity T-m in the temperature ranges 250-350 K and 120 200 K. The anomalous heat capacity near T-d was analysed taking into account the distribution of Zr concentration in nanoregions leading to the distribution of their transition temperatures into the polar phase. Excess heat capacity near Tm was discussed in the framework of the spherical random bond-random field model. The results are compared with the data obtained by the same procedures for PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3 studied experimentally earlier.

Аннотация: GdFe3(BO3)(4) exhibits a structural phase transition at 156 K, antiferromagnetic order of the Fe3+ moments at 36 K, followed by a spin reorientation phase transition at 9 K. The reorientation phase transition is studied through dielectric, magnetic, and heat capacity measurements under the application of external magnetic fields of up to 7 kOe. The dielectric constant indicates the existence of two distinct anomalies at T-SR=9 K that separate in temperature under external magnetic fields. The spin rotation phase transition is proven to be of the first-order nature through the magnetic analog of the Clausius-Clapeyron equation. Magnetodielectric effect of up to 1% is observed at 8 K and 7 kOe. The uniaxial magnetocaloric effect along the c axis is observed below the spin reorientation phase transition of 9 K.

Аннотация: Based on the periodic Anderson model, microscopic expressions for the Ginzburg–Landau expansion coefficients in a phase with superconducting and antiferromagnetic order parameters are obtained. Temperature dependences of the order parameters near the temperature of the transition to this phase are established. The emergence of anomalous properties upon the quantum phase transition to the phase with two order parameters is investigated. This transition is accompanied by drastic reconstruction of the density of states, reflected by the interplay between superconductivity and antiferromagnetism. © 2016, Allerton Press, Inc.

Аннотация: The features of the characteristics of LnCoO3 cobaltites, where Ln is a rare-earth element, are discussed. Both experiment and theory demonstrate that their essentials are related to the low-spin ground state of cobalt ions. The thermally induced occupation of the excited high-spin state gives rise to peaks in the magnetic susceptibility, specific heat, and thermal expansion, as well as to a smooth insulator–metal transition. The analysis is based both on the data from the current literature concerning LaCoO3 and in many aspects on our own studies of GdCoO3 and La1?xGdxCoO3 solid solutions. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Inc.

Аннотация: The magnetic properties of antiferromagnetic NiO nanoparticles prepared by thermal decomposition of nickel hydroxocarbonate are investigated. According to the data of magnetization measurements in fields of up to 250 kOe, the magnetic moment linearly grows in strong fields, which is caused by the contribution of the antiferromagnetically ordered nanoparticle core, and the antiferromagnetic susceptibility corresponds to that of bulk polycrystalline NiO. This allowed the antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic contributions to the total magnetic response of a sample to be quantitatively determined. The latter occurs due to the incomplete spin compensation in an antiferromagnetic nanoparticle caused by defects on its surface. It is demonstrated that to correctly determine the superparamagnetic blocking temperature, it is necessary to take into account the antiferromagnetic susceptibility of the particle core.

Аннотация: A sequence of magnetocaloric anomalies occurring with the change in a magnetic field H is predicted for an open nanowire with the Rashba spin–orbit coupling and the induced superconducting pairing potential. The nature of such anomalies is due to the cascade of quantum transitions related to the successive changes in the fermion parity of the nanowire ground state with the growth of the magnetic field. It is shown that the critical Hc values fall within the parameter range corresponding to the nontrivial values of the Z2 topological invariant of the corresponding 1D band Hamiltonian characteristic of the D symmetry class. It is demonstrated that such features in the behavior of the open nanowire are retained even in the presence of Coulomb interactions.

Аннотация: The XANES spectra (X-ray absorption near-edge spectra) at the K edge of Co and the L3 edge of Gd in polycrystalline Gd0.4Sr0.6CoO3 – δ rare-earth oxides with an ordered and disordered distribution of Gd3+ and Sr2+ cations over the A sites in the crystal lattice are measured. The results of XANES measurements do not reveal a noticeable shift in the absorption edge with increasing Sr concentration as compared to the GdCoO3 parent composition. The measured temperature dependences of the heat capacity of polycrystalline ordered and disordered samples and a single-crystal ordered Gd0.4Sr0.6CoO2.85 sample exhibit two Schottky anomalies. These anomalies are thought to be related to the high-spin state of the Co3+ ions in the pyramidal environment caused by oxygen deficiency and to the magnetic state of oxygen p electrons induced by the doping-assisted generation of a hole in the 2p state. The absence of a noticeable shift in the absorption edge and the presence of two Schottky anomalies support the fact that the charge state of cobalt remains unchanged in the compounds under study.
