Аннотация: The ground state of a two-dimensional antiferromagnet with S = 1/2 interacting with acoustic phonons in a magnetic field was studied by the quantum Monte Carlo method in the nonadiabatic approximation. Oscillations of the amplitude of the root-mean-square displacement of ions and the average phonon occupation number in a magnetic field were found. Local maxima were revealed in the distribution functions of site magnetic moments and ion displacements. The saturation magnetization was calculated as a function of the spin-phonon coupling constant. (C) 2004 MAIK "Nauka / Interperiodica".

Аннотация: The spin density of states of a two-dimensional antiferromagnet in magnetic field having spins-1/2 and interacting with acoustic phonons is investigated in the nonadiabatic approximation using the quantum Monte Carlo method. It is found the gap energy A in the single particle spin excitations spectrum closes at magnetic field Delta similar or equal to H-c, W-ph W-s and Delta similar or equal to (1/2)H-c, W-ph W-s, where W-ph and W-s are the bandwidths of phonon and spin excitations in antiferromagnet. Аннотация: We report on bifurcations effect mediated by the electron-phonon coupling in a concentrated rare-earth-containing antiferromagnet, observed in the spectra of coupled 4f-electron-phonon modes under the influence of an external magnetic field. The effect was observed in the low-temperature far-infrared (terahertz) reflection spectra of a multiferroic easy-axis antiferromagnet PrFe3(BO3)4 in magnetic fields Bext||c. Both paramagnetic and magnetically ordered phases (including a spin-flop one) were studied in magnetic fields up to 30 T. We show that the field behavior of the coupled modes can be successfully explained and modeled on the base of the equation derived in the frame of the theory of coupled electron-phonon modes, with the same field-independent electron-phonon interaction constant |W|=14.8cm−1.

Аннотация: We report on a new effect caused by the electron-phonon coupling in a stoichiometric rare-earth antiferromagnetic crystal subjected to an external magnetic field, namely, the appearance of a nonzero gap in the spectrum of electronic excitations in an arbitrarily small field. The effect was registered in the low-temperature far-infrared (terahertz) reflection spectra of an easy-axis antiferromagnet PrFe3(BO3)4 in magnetic fields Bext-c. Both paramagnetic and magnetically ordered phases (including a spin-flop one) were studied in magnetic fields up to 30 T, and two bifurcation points were observed. We show that the field behavior of the coupled modes can be successfully explained and modeled on the basis of the equation derived in the framework of the theory of coupled electron-phonon modes, with the same field-independent electron-phonon interaction constant |W|=14.8 cm-1. © 2017 American Physical Society.

Аннотация: We have studied, both experimentally and theoretically, the unusual temperature dependence of the phonon spectra in NdCoO3, SmCoO3 and GdCoO3, where the Co3+ ion is in the low-spin (LS) ground state, and at the finite temperature, the high-spin (HS) term has a nonzero concentration nHS due to multiplicity fluctuations. We measured the absorption spectra in polycrystalline and nanostructured samples in the temperature range 3–550 K and found a quite strong breathing mode softening that cannot be explained by standard lattice anharmonicity. We showed that the anharmonicity in the electron–phonon interaction is responsible for this red shift proportional to the nHS concentration.

Аннотация: Far-infrared reflection and ellipsometry measurements on multiferroic PrFe3(BO3)4 and SmFe3(BO3)4 single crystals were used to investigate the interaction between lattice phonons and electronic excitations associated with 4f crystal-field transitions. A temperature-dependent interference between two types of excitations was observed in PrFe3(BO3)4 in which the frequency of 4f crystal-field electronic excitation of Pr3+ falls into the TO-LO frequency interval of the optical phonon mode near 50 cm−1 (1.5 THz). Experimental data were explained on the basis of a theoretical model of coupled electron-phonon modes. The fitting procedure revealed the value 14.8 cm−1 for the electron-phonon coupling constant. This rather large value points to an essential role played by the electron-phonon interaction in the physics of multiferroics.

Аннотация: We present results for the electron-phonon interaction of the Γ-point phonons in the tetragonal high-temperature phase of La2 CuO4 obtained from a hybrid scheme, combining density-functional theory (DFT) with the generalized tight-binding approach. As a starting point, eigenfrequencies and eigenvectors for the Γ-point phonons are determined from DFT within the frozen phonon approach utilizing the augmented plane wave + local orbitals method. The so obtained characteristics of electron-phonon coupling are converted into parameters of the generalized tight-binding method. This approach is a version of cluster perturbation theory and takes the strong on-site electron correlations into account. The obtained parameters describe the interaction of phonons with Hubbard fermions which form quasiparticle bands in strongly correlated electron systems. As a result, it is found that the Γ-point phonons with the strongest electron-phonon interaction are the A2u modes (236 cm-1, 131 cm-1 and 476 cm-1). Finally it is shown, that the single-electron spectral-weight redistribution between different Hubbard fermion quasiparticles results in a suppression of electron-phonon interaction which is strongest for the triplet Hubbard band with z oriented copper and oxygen electrons. © 2015 Elsevier B.V. Аннотация: A possibility to use elastic waves for investigation of inhomogeneities corresponding in size to intermediate order in disordered solids is considered. It is shown that frequency dependencies of phase and group velocities of the elastic waves have some peculiarities which give the possibilities to find the characteristic size of inhomogenities and to determine the parameter of a matter whose fluctuations are most significant for the phenomena under study.

Аннотация: The generalized tight-binding method presents a practical realization of the scheme that describes quasiparticles in a strongly correlated electron system and consists of exact intra-cell diagonalization of the model Hamiltonian and perturbative treatment of the inter-cell hoppings. In the present paper this method and its ab initio modification are applied to undoped and weakly doped HTSC cuprates. Results are in very good agreement with the experimental ARPES data on various compounds. Starting with a multiband p-d model the realistic effective low-energy Hamiltonian of strongly correlated electrons interacting with spin fluctuations and phonons is derived both for hole- and electron-doped systems. Without electron-phonon interaction the pure magnetic mechanism of pairing does not provide the correct value of T, even for single-layer La2-xSrxCuO4 and Nd2-xCexCuO4. Аннотация: We study theoretically the electron-phonon interaction in NaxCoO2. For the A(1g) and E-1g phonon modes found in Raman experiments, we calculate the matrix elements of the electron-phonon interaction. Analyzing the feedback effect of the conduction electrons on the phonon frequency., we investigate the doping dependence of these two phonon modes. Due to the momentum dependence of the electron-phonon interaction, we find the strongest renormalization of the E-1g mode around the Brillouin zone boundary which should be observed in the neutron scattering. At the same time, the A(1g) mode shows the strongest coupling to the conducting electrons around the G point and reveals its doping dependence in the Raman experiments. Our results shed light on the possible importance of the electron-phonon interaction in the lamellar sodium cobaltates.

Аннотация: We study theoretically and experimentally the dependence of the electron-phonon interaction in Na(x)CoO(2) on the sodium concentration x. For the two oxygen phonon modes found in Raman experiments, A(1g) and E(1g), we calculate the matrix elements of the electron-phonon interaction. Analyzing the feedback effect of the conduction electrons on the phonon frequency we compare the calculated and experimentally observed doping dependence of the A(1g) mode. Furthermore, due to the momentum dependence of the electron-phonon coupling for the E(1g) symmetry we find no renormalization of the corresponding phonon frequency which agrees with experiment. Our results shed light on the possible importance of the electron-phonon interaction in this system.

Аннотация: It is now well established that many of the technologically important properties of two-dimensional (2D) materials, such as the extremely high carrier mobility in graphene(1) and the large direct band gaps in MoS2 monolayers(2), arise from quantum confinement. However, the influence of reduced dimensions on electron-phonon (e-ph) coupling and its attendant dephasing effects in such systems has remained unclear. Although phonon confinement(3-7) is expected to produce a suppression of e-ph interactions in 2D systems with rigid boundary conditions(6,7), experimental verification of this has remained elusive(8). Here, we show that the e-ph interaction is, indeed, modified by a phonon dimensionality crossover in layered Nb3SiTe6 atomic crystals. When the thickness of the Nb3SiTe6 crystals is reduced below a few unit cells, we observe an unexpected enhancement of the weak-antilocalization signature in magnetotransport. This finding strongly supports the theoretically predicted suppression of e-ph interactions caused by quantum confinement of phonons.
