Аннотация: By use of coupled-mode theory we analyze a channel add-drop filter based on two dispersive waveguides symmetrically coupled with two resonant optical cavities. We show new solutions for the channel-drop filter processes compared to the solutions found by Manolatou et al (1999 IEEE J. Quantum Electron. 35 1322). For a special choice of the dispersion of the waveguides, we reveal a frequency region with sufficient total reflection.

Аннотация: The temperature dependences of the critical current of Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2Cu3O7 polycrystalline high-temperature superconductors subjected to annealing for different times and those of Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2Cu3O7 + BaPbO3 composites were measured. The results obtained were analyzed in terms of the Gunsenheimer-Schussler-Kummler theory considering the Andreev reflection of carriers in a "superconductor-normal metal-superconductor" (S-N-S) junction. Good agreement between the experimental and theoretical temperature dependences of the critical current over a wide temperature range for polycrystals with both natural and artificially created boundaries (composites) made it possible to estimate the effective length of grain boundaries in the high-temperature superconductors. It was revealed that the critical current density measured at 4.2 K is an exponential function of the length of grain boundaries in samples of both types.

Аннотация: The temperature evolution of the current-voltage characteristic (CVC) of a "break junction" with metal-type conductivity on the polycrystalline La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 high-temperature superconductor is investigated. The CVC exhibits gap peculiarities and hysteresis, which is observed in the region of negative differential resistance. The experimental results are described well in terms of the Kummel-Gunsenheimer-Nicolsky theory for an S-N-S junction (S is a superconductor, N is a normal metal) this theory takes into account multiple Andreev reflection of quasiparticles. It is shown that the shape of the CVC and the existence and the shape of hysteresis are determined by the ratio of "long" and "short" grain boundaries in the polycrystal under investigation. Аннотация: PMMA opal crystal was prepared by a simple hybrid method, which includes sedimentation, meniscus formation and evaporation. We investigated three surfaces of this crystal by angle-resolved reflective light spectroscopy and SEM study. The angle-resolved reflective measurements were carried out in the 400–1100 nm range. We have determined the high-quality ordered surface of the crystal region. Narrow particle size distribution of the surface has been revealed. The average particle diameter obtained with SEM was nearly 361 nm. The most interesting result was that reflectivity of the surface turned out up to 98% at normal light incidence. Using a fit of dependences of the maximum reflectivity wavelength from an angle based on the Bragg–Snell law, the wavelength of maximum 0° reflectivity, the particle diameter and the fill factor have been determined. For the best surface maximum reflectivity wavelength of a 0° angle was estimated to be 869 nm. The particle diameter and fill factor were calculated as 372 nm and 0.8715, respectively. The diameter obtained by fitting is in excellent agreement with the particle diameter obtained with SEM. The reflectivity maximum is assumed to increase significantly when increasing the fill factor. We believe that using our simple approach to manufacture PMMA opal crystals will significantly increase the fabrication of high-quality photonic crystal templates and thin films

Аннотация: Measurements of current-voltage characteristics (CVC) of Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2,Cu3O7 + BaPbO3 and Y3/4Lu1/4Ba2Cu3O7 +BaPb0.9Sn0.1O3 composites modelling network of superconducting-normal metal-superconducting (S-N-S) junctions in effectively 'clean' and 'dirty' limits, respectively, have been performed. Essential difference of CVCs for these composites is observed in spite of the identical preparation technique and experimental conditions. It is shown that the theory for S-N-S junctions [R. Аннотация: We report on a new effect caused by the electron-phonon coupling in a stoichiometric rare-earth antiferromagnetic crystal subjected to an external magnetic field, namely, the appearance of a nonzero gap in the spectrum of electronic excitations in an arbitrarily small field. The effect was registered in the low-temperature far-infrared (terahertz) reflection spectra of an easy-axis antiferromagnet PrFe3(BO3)4 in magnetic fields Bext-c. Both paramagnetic and magnetically ordered phases (including a spin-flop one) were studied in magnetic fields up to 30 T, and two bifurcation points were observed. We show that the field behavior of the coupled modes can be successfully explained and modeled on the basis of the equation derived in the framework of the theory of coupled electron-phonon modes, with the same field-independent electron-phonon interaction constant |W|=14.8 cm-1. © 2017 American Physical Society.

Аннотация: In this work, the possibility of the remote measurement of reflection coefficient in the ultra-wide frequency range from 425 MHz to 1010 MHz from the board of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) using ultra-wide band (UWB) radar was investigated. With this in mind, the antenna-feeder path of UAV UWB radar is calibrated. The calibration process consisted in measuring the reflection coefficient from the brass mesh sheet at various UAV hovering heights. Printed log-periodic dipole antenna was used as transmitter-receiver antenna. As a result, the antenna return loss in an empty-room and the complex antenna response function of the antenna-feeder path of the UAV UWB radar were found. It is shown that the amplitude of the reflected wave from a brass mesh sheet can be measured with root-mean square error (RMSE), RMSE=0.017 1/m and a determination coefficient (R 2 ) of R 2 = 0.967. Therewith the UAV hovering heights measured by the pulse method and the on-board laser rangefinder correlates with each other with R2=0.999 and with RMSE=3.5cm (distance measurement error of the laser rangefinder is ±1cm, surface irregularities of the brass mesh sheet were no more than 1.5cm). Measured in the frequency range from 500 MHz to 900 MHz, the reflection coefficient from fresh lake water by UAV UWB radar with a relative error of no more than 7.5% (practically does not depend on the height of the UAV hovering, approximately from 2.2 m to 5.2 m) coincides with the calculated one by the Stogryn's formulas.

Аннотация: We consider dynamically controllable periodic structures (gratings), resulting from Raman interaction of a weak probe field with a standing-wave pump and a second control laser field in four-level atomic media of N type. The gratings under study are induced due to periodic spatial modulation of the Raman gain in a standing pump field and fundamentally differ from the ones based on electromagnetically induced transparency. We show that spectral and transmission properties of these gratings can be controlled with the help of an additional weak field (control field) by varying its intensity or frequency. Small variations of the control field intensity can change the system from opaque to transparent and vice versa and this structure can operate as an all-optical transistor. Such a structure can also be used as a tunable nonlinear mirror with amplification.

Аннотация: We investigate optical Tamm states supported by a dielectric grating placed on top of a distributed Bragg reflector. It is found that under certain conditions the Tamm state may become a bound state in the continuum. The bound state, in its turn, induces the effect of critical coupling with the reflectance amplitude reaching an exact zero. We demonstrate that the critical coupling point is located in the core of a vortex of the reflection amplitude gradient in the space of the wavelength and angle of incidence. The emergence of the vortex is explained by the coupled mode theory.

Аннотация: The current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of break junctions of polycrystalline La1.85Sr0.15CuO4, Y0.75Lu0.25Ba2Cu3O7-delta, Bi1.8Pb0.3Sr1.9Ca2Cu3Ox and composite YBa2Cu3O7-delta + Ag are investigated. The experimental I-V curves exhibit the specific peculiarities of superconductor/normal-metal/superconductor junctions. The relation between an I-V characteristic of network of weak links and I-V dependencies of typical weak links is suggested to describe the experimental data. Аннотация: A simplified model for the current-voltage characteristics of weak links is suggested. It is based on an approach considering the multiple Andreev reflection in a metallic Josephson junction. The model allows one to calculate the current-voltage characteristics of superconductor-normal metal-superconductor junctions with different thicknesses of normal layer at different temperatures. A hysteretic peculiarity of the V(I) dependence is described as a result of the negative differential resistance. The current-voltage characteristics of tin microbridges and high- T-c composite YBCO + BaPbO3 were computed.

Аннотация: Analytical formulas are derived for the transmission and reflection coefficients of electromagnetic E- and H-waves incident at an arbitrary angle on a one-dimensional strip conductor grating located at the interface between two dielectric media. The feasibility of adjusting the grating reflectivity within wide limits by varying its design parameters is demonstrated, which allows these structures to be used in multilayered dielectric bandpass filters.

Аннотация: The effect Rashba spin-orbit coupling has on transmission coefficient through a symmetric system with fermion path nonanalyticity points is illustrated using the example of a regular polygon-shaped chain. It is shown that the current passage through a device is blocked at the critical spin-orbit coupling values determined by the system’s geometry. At the near-critical spin-orbit coupling values, electron transport is possible only in a narrow range of energies.

Аннотация: The effect of multiple reflection in the process of electron transport on the current-voltage characteristics of an adsorbed magnetic atom with single-ion anisotropy has been investigated. All orders of the perturbation theory with respect to the parameter of coupling between the contacts and the multilevel impurity have been taken into account by the Keldysh diagram technique with the use of Hubbard operators. It has been shown that the current-voltage characteristics of the system in a strongly nonequilibrium regime contains regions of negative differential conductance. The ways of enhancing this effect are discussed.

Аннотация: The dc Josephson effect in a superconductor/dimeric molecule/superconductor junction has been investigated by means of the nonequilibrium Green’s function method and the Keldysh diagram technique. The application of the atomic representation has allowed to simplify considerably the computation of the supercurrent and occupation numbers and receive the general expressions which take into account all processes of the Andreev reflection in the loopless approach. It is significant that the expressions for the current and occupation numbers are valid for different multilevel structures in the Josephson junction. The sf-exchange interaction between the electron spin and the spins of the dimer leads to the suppression of the critical current due to a new set of Andreev bound states. © 2016, Springer Science+Business Media New York.

Аннотация: Features in the formation of chemically deposited polycrystalline Co-P films with thicknesses of a few nanometers are established by analyzing film surface morphology and variation in the film magnetization. It is shown that in the thickness range below 30 nm the polar Kerr effect value OK changes nonmonotonically and depends on a wavelength of the incident light. For the films thicker than 30 nm, this value depends weakly on both the thickness and the wavelength. These features in the OK behavior are attributed to the Faraday effect, which is revealed at small thicknesses upon light reflection from the lower surface of a magnetic layer. It is found that the Faraday effect in the Co-P films exceeds that in the Co films by a factor of more than two. This effect is assumed to be caused by the presence of a Pd underlayer in the samples under study. (C) 2011 Elsevier BY. All rights reserved.

Аннотация: Exciton polaritons in one-dimensional photonic crystals based on multiple quantum well structures are investigated. The effects due to interplay between resonant interaction of light with quantum well excitons, and light scattering from well-barrier interface, are elucidated. Polariton dispersion equations and reflection spectra in structures with two wells in an elementary supercell of the periodic structure are studied. Several examples of different compound elementary supercells are considered. Special attention is paid to structures with the period or the distance between quantum wells satisfying the resonance Bragg condition. Such structures are characterized by a presence of a larger-than-usual polariton stop band. It is shown that in structures with a complex elementary supercell, the width of such a stop band can be significantly enhanced in comparison to that in simple structures.
