Аннотация: In recent years interest has been shown in crystals with the scheelite structure (point symmetry group 4/m) as promising materials for acoustooptic devices. However, nearly all the work done so far has been on the NaBi(MoO4)2 and PbMoO4 crystals. In this paper the authors give the results of a study of the elastic and acoustooptic properties of NaBi(WO4)2 and LiBi(MoO4)2 crystals from a series of isomorphic compounds with the scheelite structure carried out in order to determine the extent of the changes in the elastic and acoustooptic properties of this series of crystals when the structural elements are changed.

Аннотация: Describes a method for determining the effective elastic constants of anisotropic rocks from the results of ultrasonic measurements of the phase velocity of elastic body waves with arbitrary directions of the wave normal in the absence of a priori information on the texture symmetry. The proposed method has been applied to the results of ultrasonic measurements of a twice-deformed gneiss sample from the Lodogian series of the Baltic Shield. Аннотация: The anisotropy of the electromechanical properties of SH-waves and Lamb waves in yttrium aluminum borates, which are nonmagnetic representatives of the RMe3(BO3)4 single crystals family (where R=Y, La-Lu; M=Fe, Al, Cr, Ga, Sc) with unique properties of magnetoelectrics and multiferroics, has been studied. In the process of the numerical simulation of the acoustic waves characteristics, the values of linear electromechanical constants of YAl3(BO3)4 single crystals, previously measured by ultrasonic pulse echo and quasi-static methods, have been used.
Исследована анизотропия электромеханичеких характеристик SH-волн и волн Лэмба в иттриевых алюмоборатах, которые являются немагнитным представителем семейства монокри- сталлов RMe3(BO3)4 (где R=Y, La-Lu; M=Fe, Al, Cr, Ga, Sc) с уникальными свойствами магнитоэлектриков и мультиферроиков. При численном моделировании характеристик акустических волн использованы значения линейных электромеханических постоянных монокристаллов YAl3(BO3)4, измеренных ранее ультразвуковым эхо-импульсным и квазистатическим методами.

Аннотация: Formation of incommensurate three-dimensional magnetic order below T* similar to 10 K in CuB2O4 is explained on the basis of strong correlation between the holes and localized spins. The Kondo lattice model is analysed for the case where spin polarons are the elementary excitations. The origin of the low-temperature specific heat maximum at T similar to 5 K is associated with a displacement of the polaron band bottom. A set of anomalies in the temperature dependence of the conductivity, shift of the optical conductivity maximum in the range of energies 0.02-0.12 eV and decreasing of the infrared absorption intensity is predicted.

Аннотация: Features of Raman gain of probe radiation in three-level atoms placed in a defect of a one-dimensional photonic crystal in the presence of laser radiation (pump) at an adjacent high-frequency transition have been theoretically investigated. It has been shown that there is a pump intensity range where narrow peaks (resonances) simultaneously appear in the transmission and reflection spectra of the probe field. Beyond this region, the peak in the transmission spectrum is transformed to a narrow dip. The spectral position of these peaks is determined by the Raman resonance and the transmittance and reflectance can be larger than unity at pump intensities from several microwatts per square centimeter to several tens of milliwatts per square centimeter. The nature of narrow peaks is due to a sharp dispersion of a nonlinear refractive index near the Raman resonance; this dispersion is responsible for a strong decrease in the group velocity of probe radiation. The proposed scheme makes it possible to obtain controlled ultranarrow resonances in the transmission and reflection spectra of the photonic crystal.

Аннотация: Analytical formulas are derived for the transmission and reflection coefficients of electromagnetic E- and H-waves incident at an arbitrary angle on a one-dimensional strip conductor grating located at the interface between two dielectric media. The feasibility of adjusting the grating reflectivity within wide limits by varying its design parameters is demonstrated, which allows these structures to be used in multilayered dielectric bandpass filters.

Аннотация: Simple formulas for determination of components of the scattering matrix of a plane electromagnetic wave incident along the normal onto a thin infinite 2D metal lattice with square windows placed at the interface of two media are derived for the first time. Frequency responses (FRs) of this structure calculated with the use of these formulas agree well with responses obtained by the numerical electromagnetic analysis of a 3D model in the case when the lattice period is less than one-half of the wavelength. The capability of efficient control of the FR of the analyzed structure by means of variation in the width of conductors and the lattice period enables application of this lattice for fabrication of a reflector with prescribed reflectivity. Such reflectors at interfaces of dielectric layers are required, for example, in the design of multilayer sufaces radio transparent in a specified frequency band or optical bandpass filters.

Аннотация: Simple formulas are obtained for calculating the scattering matrix of a plane electromagnetic wave incident normally on an infinite 2D lattice formed by square strip conductors and located at the interface of two dielectric media. For the first time, the vortex behavior of the electric field of the lattice was taken into account, which made it possible to repeatedly reduce the computation error at high frequencies. This is confirmed by the close agreement of the amplitude-frequency responses of the structure calculated by the formulas with the characteristics obtained by the numerical electrodynamic analysis of the 3D model when the lattice period is less than half the wavelength.

Аннотация: We show that two nonlinear resonant cavities aligned between two parallel waveguides can support self-induced bound states in the continuum (BSCs). These BSCs are symmetrical relative to an inversion of the waveguides and to inversion of the transport axis. Due to this BSCs can drop an incident wave from one waveguide to another with very high efficiency. We show also that the frequency of the efficient channel dropping can be tuned by injecting power. All these results are in good agreement with numerical solutions of the Maxwell equations in a two-dimensional photonic crystal of GaAs rods holding two parallel waveguides and two defects made of a Kerr medium. Аннотация: We demonstrate bound states in the first TE and TM diffraction continua (BSC) in a linear periodic array of dielectric spheres in air above the light cone. We classify the BSCs according to the symmetry specified by the azimuthal number m, the Bloch wave vector β directed along the array, and polarization. The most simple symmetry-protected TE and TM polarized BSCs have m=0 and β=0 and occur in a wide range of the radii of the spheres and dielectric constants. More complicated BSCs with m≠0 and β=0 exist only for a selected radius of the spheres at a fixed dielectric constant. We also find robust Bloch BSCs with β≠0 and m=0. We present also the BSCs embedded into two and three diffraction continua. We show that the BSCs can be easily detected by the collapse of the Fano resonance for scattering of electromagnetic plane waves by the array.

Аннотация: We consider E-polarized bound states in the radiation continuum (BICs) in circular periodical arrays of N infinitely long dielectric rods. We find that each true BIC which occurs in an infinite linear array has its counterpart in the circular array as a near-BIC with extremely large quality factor. We argue analytically as well as numerically that the quality factor of the symmetry-protected near-BICs diverges as eλN, where λ is a material parameter dependent on the radius and the refraction index of the rods. By tuning of the radius of rods, we also find numerically non-symmetry-protected near-BICs. These near-BICs are localized with exponential accuracy outside the circular array, but fill the whole inner space of the array carrying orbital angular momentum.

Аннотация: We present propagating Bloch bound states in the radiation continuum with orbital angular momentum in an infinite linear periodical array of dielectric spheres. The bound states in the continuum demonstrate a giant Poynting vector spiraling around the array. They can be excited by a plane wave with incident linear polarization with a small tilt relative to the axis of the array.

Аннотация: Coupling of two dielectric wires with a rectangular cross section gives rise to bonding and anti-bonding resonances. The latter is featured by extremal narrowing of the resonant width for variation of the aspect ratio of the cross section and distance between wires. A plane wave resonant to this anti-bonding resonance gives rise to unprecedent enhancement of the optical forces up to several nano Newtons per micrometer length of the wires. The forces oscillate with the angle of incidence of the plane wave but always try to repel the wires. If the wires are fixed at the ends, the light power 1.5mW/µm2 bends wires with length 50 µm by order 100 nm.

Аннотация: For scattering of electromagnetic waves by a dielectric cylinder with periodically modulated permittivity we focus on the vicinity of the frequency of the wave with regard to the eigenfrequencies of bound states in the continuum. Then response of the cylinder becomes extremely sensitive to the angle of incidence and polarization of the plane wave. The cross section of the scattering of electromagnetic waves with mixed polarization undergoes crucial change from the Bragg shape to the Fano shape by rotation of the polarization that paves a way to tuning of Fano resonances by an external source.
