We analyze the Wannier-Stark spectrum of a quantum particle in tilted two-dimensional lattices with the Bloch spectrum consisting of two subbands, which could be either separated by a finite gap or connected by the Dirac points. For rational orientations of the static field given by an arbitrary superposition of the translation vectors, the spectrum is a ladder of energy bands. We obtain asymptotic expressions for the energy bands in the limit of large and weak static fields and study them numerically for intermediate field strength. We show that the structure of energy bands determines the rate of spreading of localized wave packets, which is the quantity measured in laboratory experiments. It is shown that wave-packet dispersion becomes a fractal function of the field orientation in the long-time regime of ballistic spreading.

Аннотация:
We analyze the Wannier-Stark spectrum of a quantum particle in generic one-dimensional double-periodic lattices. In the limit of a weak static field, the spectrum is shown to be a superposition of two Wannier-Stark ladders originating from two Bloch subbands. As the strength of the field is increased, the spectrum rearranges itself into a single Wannier-Stark ladder. We derive analytical expressions that describe the rearrangement employing the analogy between the Wannier-Stark problem and a driven two-level system in the strong-coupling regime.

Аннотация:
We study a quantum particle in a tilted honeycomb lattice in the tight-binding approximation. First we discuss the particle eigenstates, i.e., the stationary Wannier-Stark states. These states are proved to be extended states for the rational directions of the static field and localized states for the irrational directions. We find energy bands of the extended states and analyze the localized states. It is shown, in particular, that the localized honeycomb Wannier-Stark states are chaotic states with irregular dependence of the localization length on the static field magnitude. Аннотация:
In this work, we discuss the resonance states of a quantum particle in a periodic potential plus a static force. Originally, this problem was formulated for a crystal electron subject to a static electric field and it is nowadays known as the Wannier-Stark problem. We describe a novel approach to the Wannier-Stark problem developed in recent years. This approach allows to compute the complex energy spectrum of a Wannier-Stark system as the poles of a rigorously constructed scattering matrix and solves the Wannier-Stark problem without any approximation. The suggested method is very efficient from the numerical point of view and has proven to be a powerful analytic tool for Wannier-Stark resonances appearing in different physical systems such as optical lattices or semiconductor superlattices. We analyze the energy spectrum and eigenstates of cold atoms in a tilted brick-wall optical lattice. When the tilt is applied, the system exhibits a sequence of topological phase transitions reflected in an abrupt change of the eigenstates. It is demonstrated that these topological phase transitions can be easily detected in a laboratory experiment by observing Bloch
oscillations
of cold atoms.

Аннотация:
The characteristics of a frequency doubler on a resonant microstrip structure with a thin magnetic film were studied theoretically. The electrodynamic calculation of the structure was performed within the quasi-static approximation. Nonlinear response of film magnetization was calculated taking into account the second-order terms in the Landau-Lifshitz equation. The frequency response of the microstrip resonator was calculated. It was shown that due to the use of the resonant circuit, high efficiency of the input signal energy conversion into the output signal at a doubled frequency was achieved. The optimal values of the magnitude and direction of an external static magnetic field, which ensure the maximum output power at a doubled frequency, were determined.

Аннотация:
A model describing the second-order phase transition with respect to the magnetoelastic coupling parameter from the anti ferromagnetic (AFM) to the singlet state in a two-dimensional quantum magnet on a square lattice is proposed. The spectrum of elementary excitations in the singlet and AFM phases is calculated using an atomic representation, and the evolution of transverse and longitudinal branches of this spectrum is studied in the vicinity of the transition point. It is established that the AFM to singlet phase transition is related to softening of the longitudinal branch of
oscillations
. In the singlet phase, the gap plays the role of a parameter characterizing the distance to the phase transition point. It is shown that the spectrum of transverse
oscillations
in the AFM phase corresponds to the Goldstone boson. Based on an analysis of the stability of the spectrum of elementary excitations, a phase diagram is constructed that determines the regions of the existence of phases with plaquette-deformed lattices.

Аннотация:
We consider light-induced binding and motion of dielectric microparticles in an optical waveguide that gives rise to a backaction effect such as light transmission oscillating with time. Modeling the particles by dielectric slabs allows us to solve the problem analytically and obtain a rich variety of dynamical regimes both for Newtonian and damped motion. This variety is clearly reflected in temporal
oscillations
of the light transmission. The characteristic frequencies of the
oscillations
are within the ultrasound range of the order of 105 kHz for micron-size particles and injected power of the order of 100mW. In addition, we consider dynamics of a dielectric particle, driven by light propagating inside a Fabry-Perot resonator. These phenomena pave a way for optical driving and monitoring of the motion of particles in waveguides and resonators.

Аннотация:
We propose a method for synthesizing ultra-wideband pulses using a vector network analyzer and a wideband transceiving log-periodic antenna. The transfer characteristic of the antenna-feeder transmission line of the system is described by the model of a two-port network whose S-matrix elements are calibrated for at least two heights of the antenna above the reflecting surface (metal plate). The proposed method of calibrating the transfer characteristic of a log-periodic antenna allows one to minimize the amplitude- and phase-frequency distortions, which are introduced to the sensing pulse by the antenna. Employing the developed method, we experimentally demonstrate a possibility of synthesizing an ultra-wideband pulse with a duration of 0.46 ns at the level of half amplitude of the envelope (when the pulse contains several field
oscillations
) using a log-periodic antenna with a passband of 1.36 to 4.88 GHz (at the level −10 dB). This method is specially developed for creating miniature radar systems using portable vector network analyzers and log-periodic antennas for applications to remote sensing of an underlying surface by ultra-wideband pulses from small-size unmanned aerial vehicles.

Аннотация:
We examine the conditions for appearance of a symmetry breaking bifurcation in damped and periodically driven pendulums in the case of strong damping. We show that symmetry breaking, unlike other nonlinear phenomena, can exist at high dissipation. We prove that symmetry breaking phases exist between phases of symmetric normal and symmetric inverted
oscillations
. We find that symmetry broken solutions occupy a smaller region of the pendulum's parameter space in comparison to the statements made in earlier considerations [McDonald and Plischke, Phys. Rev. B 27, 201 (1983)]. Our research on symmetry breaking in a strongly damped pendulum is relevant to an understanding of the phenomena of dynamic symmetry breaking and rectification in pure ac driven semiconductor superlattices.

Аннотация:
We describe a switching device based on Rabi
oscillations
. The device consists of a well region separated from a free region by a potential barrier. The potential landscape is adjusted so that one bound state and one quasi level are present. By applying a microwave field with a driving frequency close to the separation between the two levels, a particle initially in the ground state can be activated to the quasi-level, and subsequently tunnel to the free region. The probability for tunneling in the free region exhibits a plateau structure, as the wave function is emitted by bursts after each Rabi oscillation. The leakage current can then be controlled by varying the amplitude of the external field, the barrier height/width, and the frequency mismatch.

In situ stress measurements have been performed during the deposition of epitaxial Ag monolayers on a Fe whisker. A compressive stress of -0.6 GPa is measured above a 5-ML Ag thickness which is ascribed to the epitaxial misfit of -0.8% between Ag and Fe. Back-extrapolation of the coverage dependent stress measurements to zero coverage reveals an Ag-induced change of the surface stress of Fe(100) of -1.23 N/m. Comparing this surface stress change with the calculated surface stress for Ag(100) suggests a tensile surface stress of +2.05 N/m for clean Fe(100). The deposition of 2 - 5 layers of Ag does not change the stress induced by the first layer significantly. This almost stress free growth is assigned to a rougher surface morphology which is most likely caused by a surface alloy formation.

We consider the process of resonant electron tunneling through a double-barrier potential, taking into account nonlinear dynamical effects generated by charge accumulation in the interbarrier space. We use the perturbation approach of Davydov and Ermakov, which was developed for investigating intrinsic bistability in resonant tunneling. For incoming electron flow, which is modulated slowly in time, we show that the resulting nonlinear dynamics can become chaotic, with the chaos described (because of the open nature of the system) by a strange attractor. We determine the conditions for the existence of this strange attractor and estimate characteristic experimental parameters for its observation.
